  • Ladies in Retirement - Reginald Denham - Edward Percy - BBC Saturday Night Theatre

Ladies in Retirement is a 1941 American film noir directed by Charles Vidor, and starring Ida Lupino and Louis Hayward. It is based on a 1940 Broadway play of the same title by Reginald Denham and Edward Percy which starred Flora Robson in the lead role

Ellen Creed, a proud spinster fallen on hard times, has been housekeeper/companion to her old friend Miss Leonora Fiske, a wealthy retiree who in her youth had been a chorus girl of easy virtue, for about two years. Lucy is a maid who has also been there for some time. Ellen gets a letter one day about her two sisters, both of whom are a bit peculiar. The letter says that unless she can get them under control, the police will be called and they will be evicted from their flat for outlandish behavior. Ellen asks Miss Fiske if her sisters can visit and she says yes.

  • Paddys Green Shamrock Shore

This is a song we recorded in collaboration with The Gothard Sisters, Mickey Spain, and members of Runa, Emish, Socks In The Frying Pan and Poor Man's Gambit.

The purpose of this collaboration is to raise money for the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, a charity which donates high-quality musical instruments to deserving, under-funded music programs, and provides an array of support services to school districts.

We know what the ability to play music has done for us all personally, and we believe that every child, regardless of socio-economic status, should be afforded the same opportunity.

  • The Barra MacNeils live at Celtic Colours International Festival

After more than 30 years, The Barra MacNeils—featuring siblings Sheumas, Kyle, Stewart, Lucy, and Boyd MacNeil—have established themselves as one of Cape Breton Island’s most well-known musical exponents. The concert Family Matters: An Evening with the Barra MacNeils, held at the Savoy Theatre during Celtic Colours 2019, celebrated the Sydney Mines family band as they welcomed their extended family to the stage. In this video, Lucy is joined on vocals by her daughter Kenna, Sheumas’ wife Monica and their daughter Maryanna, Kyle’s wife Anita, Boyd’s wife Lisa, and brother and past bandmate Ryan P. MacNeil for a fine example of how music truly does run in the family.
Enjoy their performance of Scottish songwriter Dougie MacLean’s wistful ballad “Caledonia” which has long been a staple of the band’s repertoire.

  • The Beaton Sisters

Scions of an ancient Celtic line, Dawn and Margie Beaton's first foray into the musical life began with step dancing lessons at the age of four -- learned at their Grandmother's knee. By age five they were integrating Celtic fiddle into their repertoire.

Award winning performers, over the intervening years they have appeared at concerts, ceilidhs, and festivals, both internationally and at home in Cape Breton. With the regular addition of step dance during a performance and a contemporary approach towards traditional Gaelic music, the Beaton sisters put their distinctive brand on the music they play, whether it be a heart wrenching lament or an exhilarating reel. They are truly unforgettable. Workshops: Urban Trad (Sun. Shade stage), Step Dancing Workshop (Sun. Dance stage).

  • String Sisters – Wind And Rain

Wind And Rain is a wonderful vocal duet featuring Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Emma Härdelin paired with a beautiful tune by Liz Knowles. The song was given to Mairéad by the great Jody Stecher. It’s the American version of the famous Child Ballad, Twa Sisters, a universal story of love, jealousy and murder. It can be found in different traditions all over the world. Emma knows a Swedish version, but this time she sings it with Mairéad in English. The tune Parker's Mill is named for the street on which Liz's family farm sat. This version was filmed live at Celtic Connections in January 2018 by Waltzer Films. From the album Between Wind And Water, released in February 2018.

Andrea Beaton at Red Shoe Pab, Mabou, Cape Breton Island, Canada. Cape Breton Island is a large island that forms the eastern part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The people of the island today are descendants of mainly Scottish immigrants that came over in the late 1700s and early 1800s from the Highlands and Western Islands. The traditional dance music from Scotland was preserved here more than it was in Scotland. Red Shoe Pab at Mabou is a great place to hear fiddle.
