Wookie feat. Eliza Doolittle -- The Hype (Official Lyric Video) Released on the 15th September. Watch the Official video here:

Download the Extended Mix on Beatport - and Traxsource -

With Wookie's debut release, the seminal 'Battle' and his underground sensation 'Scrappy', plus his remix of Sia's 'Little Man', Wookie quickly emerged as the figurehead of the UK Garage scene.
So it's no surprise that the current resurgence in bass-lead, funk inflected hit records has found the East London resident being name checked by the likes of Disclosure and Rudimental.

Wookie's production CV reads like a who's who of r&b infused hit records having produced and remixed the likes of Jessie J, Rizzle Kicks, Sia, Justin Timberlake, Roll Deep and Ray Foxx.

Wookie's latest single The Hype is an infectious contemporary house anthem featuring the vocals and writing talents of Eliza Doolittle, who most recently ambushed the airwaves and charts with her Disclosure collaboration 'You & Me'.

As Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ MistaJam says, Wookie is so back on form, it's like he never left. 'The Hype' oozes class.

Lamento della ninfa is the 18th piece from Monteverdi's eighth book of madrigals (Madrigali guerrieri ed amorosi, 1638). The three male voices narrate the story and offer empathy to the nymph while she is lamenting over her abandonment. This movement of the madrigal is a beautiful example for Phrygian progression with the ostinato of its bass line in four descending notes all the way through. The inner turmoil and sorrow of the nymph is mirrored in the music by the melodic and harmonic dissonances.

    Original text:

    Non havea Febo ancora
    recato al mondo il dì
    ch'una donzella fuora
    del proprio albergo uscì.

    Sul pallidetto volto
    scorgease il suo dolor,
    spesso gli venia sciolto
    un gran sospir dal cor.

    Sì calpestando fiori,
    errava hor qua, hor là,
    i suoi perduti amori
    così piangendo va:

    Amor, dicea, il ciel
    mirando il piè fermò
    dove, dov'è la fé
    che 'l traditor giurò?

    Fa che ritorni il mio
    amor com'ei pur fu,
    o tu m'ancidi, ch'io
    non mi tormenti più.

    Miserella, ah più no,
    tanto gel soffrir non può.

Non vo' più che i sospiri
    se non lontan da me,
no, no, che i suoi martiri
    più non dirammi, affé!

    Perché di lui mi struggo
    tutt'orgoglioso sta,
che sì, che sì se 'l fuggo
    ancor mi pregherà?

    Se ciglio ha più sereno
colei che 'l mio non è,
    già non rinchiude in seno
    Amor si bella fé.

    Né mai si dolci baci
    da quella bocca havrai,
    né più soavi; ah, taci,
    taci, che troppo il sai.

    Sì tra sdegnosi pianti
    spargea le voci al ciel;
    così ne' cori amanti
    mesce Amor fiamma e gel.

Translation (by Massimo Ossi, slightly edited):

    Phoebus had not yet
    brought daylight to the world
    when a damsel
    came out of her dwelling.

    Her suffering was plain
    on her face,
    and frequently she let
great sighs loose from her heart.

    Thus trampling the flowers,
    she wandered here and there,
    and her lost love
    she thus wept:

    Love, she said, stopping
    to look at the heavens,
    where, where is the faith
that the traitor swore to me?

    Let my love return
    as he was,
or else kill me, so that I
    may no longer torment myself.

    Poor wretch, alas, nol longer
    can she suffer such scorn.

I don't want him to sigh
    except away from me,
    I no longer want him
to confide his sufferings in me.

    Because I suffer for him,
    he is proud;
    will he beseech me
    if I flee from him?

She may have a more serene
    brow than mine,
    but even Love's breast
does not harbor such beautiful constancy.

Never will he have such sweet kisses
    from that mouth,
    nor softer - be still,
be still, that he knows all too well.

    Thus among scornful weeping
    she scattered her laments to the sky;
    thus in lovers' hearts
    Love mixes flame and ice.

UK garage legend Wookie returns with his brand new single and video 'Higher', which sees the producer take a smoother, more house direction than ever before. We at THUMP love the garage sound - those warm grooves and decidedly UK vibes - so it's great to know that Wookie is back in the game, with a forward-thinking approach and sound. Taking stylistic queues from modern British cinema such as This is England, the video for 'Higher' sees friendships born through the power of music.

  • PNAU - Unite Us

    3:38

Buy the new album 'Soft Universe' (£4.99 only on iTunes):

Having already released three critically acclaimed albums over in Australia it is with great excitement that PNAU announce the release of their new single 'Unite Us' on Ministry of Sound Recordings.

Taken from their forthcoming album 'Soft Universe', set for release early next year, this supercharged anthem stands as the perfect introduction to the big, ambitious and elevating sound that has come to characterise PNAU. 'Unite Us' is a supremely effervescent track. It surges with colour and positive energy, bearing allusion to the musical output of Littlemore's highly acclaimed side project Empire of the Sun. His impressive role as composer for the Cirque du Soleil in Paris (he is the youngest musician ever to have filled the position) can also be felt in the track's expansive sound. This is a true performance piece in pop disguise. Energetic vocals relay the anthemic lyric 'Unite Us, baby I can feel a change, don't we all feel the same?' upon a euphoric arrangement of plush synths riffs, pulsating rhythmic passages and bass lines, all of which indicate PNAU's intent to bring their listeners uplifting music that defies club interiors.

The single is backed with six eclectic remixes from Kris Menace, Tommy Trash, Wideboys, Douster and Savage Skulls, Raffertie and Wookie. Whilst each of these stand alone as uniquely engaging, together they sweep the spectrum of electronic sub genre, cementing 'Unite Us' as one of next year's key early dance floor fillers!

'Unite Us' is out now on Ministry of Sound Recordings.

And if you would like to support me as an artist you can do so here:

    Lyrics:

Well you may see a man close up his open hand
And see how greed might motivate a reckless fist
And you will witness pain of people's petty pursuits for gain
But you will never a hearse with a trailer hitch
No you will never see a hearse with a trailer hitch

Oh hungry ghosts in the land of milk and honey
They are people so damn poor all they have is their money

Truth be told, the truth will be told
Only hear it when we're listening
Will unfold for young and old
Cause in the end we're all just visiting
In the end we're only visiting

On this hedonic treadmill building appetite
With collections of those little things that shine
Oh camels will not fit through needle's eye
Your camels will not fit through the needle's eye

On the day they lay your body down to bury
There will be no pockets on the pants you're wearing
And on that day you will see what all it is worth
So earthlings don't keep your treasures here on earth

Because in the end we're only visiting

Thank you so much for watching!

Originally, I composed I'll Meet You There for my 1996 debut CD Out of Nowhere. The CD featured an ensemble performance of the song that included Bob Howell (soprano sax), John Swana (flugel horn), Darryl Hall (bass) and Byron Wookie Landham (drums) along with myself on a nylon string, classical guitar.

I felt inspired to revisit the song, this time with an intimate improvised, solo guitar approach.
