    As a tear fades away
And the dawn drives a lovers eyes
No more tears, they're all gone
Just believe this will always be

    My heart in your hand
Knows that all this belongs to me
And like a child there I stand
While your heart sings inside of me

    One dream of my life
    One night in eternity
The wind whispers soft to me
    And heaven stood still

    One Side of the dawn
Knows that all this belongs to me
    One celestial rhapsody
    And heaven stood still

Hey Mr. Jim I can see the shape you're in
    Finger on your eyebrow
And left hand on your hip
Thinking that you're such a lady killer
    Think you're so slick!
    Alright

Brother Johnny, he caught a plane and he got on it
Now he's a razor in the wind
And he got a pistol in his pocket
They say the man is crazy on the West Coast
Lord there ain't no doubt about it!
    Well allright

Sister Sue tell me baby what are we gonna do
    She said take two candles,
And then you burn them out
Make a paper boat, light it and.... send it out
    send it out now..

    All through the night
The morning's the same as the evening
    Day after day
When will these feelings leave me
    I'm lonely through my life
    I know it's not right
But we were made for each other
    These feelings remain
Must I go on without you
    Lonely through my life
Can this go on for ever
    I call your name
    I call your name
And still I get no answer
And still I get no answer
    In the shadows of night
    That somehow brought us together
    We only kissed once
The kiss that made me forever
    Lonely through my life

    They say I've no shame
But I can't help but show it
    As time passes by
Waiting for you to take notice
    Lonely through my life
Will I wait. Haw much longer
Should I wait. How much longer.

    I call your name
    I call your name
While I wait. How much longer.
Should I wait. How much longer.
    I call your name
    I call your name
While I wait. How much longer.

All through the night, the morning's the same as the evening
Day after day, when will these feelings leave me?
    I'm lonely through my life.

I know it's not right but we were made for each other
These feelings remain, must I go on without you?
    Lonely through my life
    Can this go on forever?
    Must this go on forever?

    Lonely through my life.

I call your name, and I call your name
While I wait how much longer, should I wait how much longer?

I call your name, I call your name
While I wait how much longer, must I wait how much longer?

I call your name yeah, I call your name
Must I wait how much longer and still I get no answer.

Willy DeVille is undoubtedly a true original. From his early days with Mink DeVille at New York's infamous CBGBs club through to his later solo career he has always created a unique blend of blues, pop, Cajun and soul and seasoned it with pure DeVille magic. He's even been nominated for an Oscar. Willy has made a number of visits to Montreux and this DVD captures him at his absolute peak in 1994, with a stunning band and a superb set list.

    Summary:
Mink DeVille did have some impact on the growing alternative music scene from which acts like Elvis Costello and the Talking Heads emerged, but he never lived up to his media hype in America. In Europe, however, Mink (Willy) DeVille is a bona fide superstar. This show was found in the archives of the late promoter, Bill Graham, who booked DeVille into the popular Winterland in the summer of 1978 on the same bill as Nick Lowe with Rockpile and Elvis Costello & the Attractions.

Most of the best material from his early albums is present here, including Spanish Stroll, Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl, Guardian Angel, Cadillac Walk, Steady Drivin' Man, and Soul Twist. He gives a memorable vocal performance on a number of these songs, especially, Soul Twist.

Mink DeVille was born William Borsay, August 27, 1950. He took his surname from his favorite car, a Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Growing up in the heart of Greenwich Village, Willy DeVille absorbed the influences of the already established folk movement (Bob Dylan, Odetta, Phil Ochs), and the growing rock movement (the Blues Project, Jimi Hendrix, and others) which used the Village as its launch pad.

By the late-1970s, he had formed his own band, entitled Mink DeVille, which operated as a group and as a musical foundation for the songs DeVille was writing and singing. They quickly gained acceptance by the punk and alternative music scene, which revolved around New York's legendary CBGB club.

After doing three songs on the indie compilation, Live At CBGBs, Mink DeVille was signed to Capitol Records and produced by legendary Phil Spector/Wall-Of-Sound arranger, Jack Nitzsche. DeVille had an affinity with the classic Spector recordings and the music of the Brill Building, and he also had a deep love of Latin, blues, and folk music. Therefore, his own music style was one of great diversity. He never saw much commercial success in America, but he was loved by critics and had a core cult following that remains loyal to this day.

In Europe, however, he became a superstar and he has been able to sustain a successful career across the Atlantic for nearly 30 years. Willy DeVille kept the band Mink DeVille alive through the early-'80s and the end of the punk explosion. He would return under his own name, releasing a number of albums and film soundtracks, produced by a number of industry celebs, including Dire Straits guitarist, Mark Knopfler. In 1987, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his song, Storybook Love, the theme from the film, The Princess Bride.

Your eyes are still that shade of
    smokey grey
They don't melt now when they look my way
Such a shame that nothing feels the same
    My heart is crying
    Your eyes are lying
    There's something beautiful dying

Your lips are still as red as
    cherry wine
    but they don't tremble when
    they're touching mine
You and me we're just used to be
    My heart is crying
    Your eyes are lying
    There's something beautiful dying

    Yesterday slipped away
and left covered up in sand
And how those days slipped by
I still wonder why the angels let
    something so beautiful die
    My heart is crying
    Your kiss is lying
    It's something beautiful dying

  • Willy DeVille - Even While I sleep 2008

    3:53

Even While I sleep Original from 1993 Backstreets of Desire [1992].
Willy DeVille (born William Paul Borsey Jr., August 25, 1950 – August 6, 2009) was an American singer and songwriter. During his thirty-five-year career, first with his band Mink DeVille (1974–1986) and later on his own, Deville created original songs rooted in traditional American musical styles. He worked with collaborators from across the spectrum of contemporary music, including Jack Nitzsche, Doc Pomus, Dr. John, Mark Knopfler, Allen Toussaint, and Eddie Bo. Latin rhythms, blues riffs, doo-wop, Cajun music, strains of French cabaret, and echoes of early-1960s uptown soul can be heard in DeVille's work.
Jack Nitzsche said that DeVille was the best singer he had ever worked with.
Backstreets of Desire is an album by Willy DeVille. It was recorded in various Los Angeles recording studios in 1992. To make the album, DeVille was joined by many prominent musicians, including Dr. John, David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Zachary Richard, Jim Gilstrap, Freebo, Efrain Toro, and Jimmy Zavala.
A novel mariachi version of the Jimi Hendrix standard Hey Joe was a hit in Europe. I did a version of 'Hey Joe' in mariachi-style, DeVille told Sheila Rene. I talk through the lyrics. It was a big hit for me in Europe—number one in Spain and France. DeVille brought in Mariachi los Camperos, led by Nati Cano, to play on Hey Joe.
