Released: April 1983 as track #1 on Violent Femmes
    Writer: Gordon Gano
    Genre: Alternative rock, folk punk
    Lyrics:

When I'm out walkin', I strut my stuff -- yeah, I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite; I just might stop to check you out
Let me go on... like I blister in the sun
Let me go on... big hands, I know you're the one

Body and beats, I stain my sheets -- I don't even know why
My girlfriend, she's at the end -- she is starting to cry
Let me go on... like I blister in the sun
Let me go on... big hands, I know you're the one

  • VIOLENT FEMMES-Blister in the Sun

    2:27

The Violent Femmes were founded by Brian Ritchie (bassist), and Victor DeLorenzo (percussionist) as a rhythm section, and became a full-fledged band upon the arrival of Gordon Gano (singer/guitarist). In its early days, the band frequently played coffee houses and street corners. They were discovered (and subsequently forgotten) by James Honeyman-Scott (of The Pretenders) August 23, 1981 when the band was busking on a street corner in front of the Oriental Theatre, the Milwaukee venue that The Pretenders would be playing later that night. Chrissie Hynde invited them to play a brief acoustic set after the opening act.[1] The band signed to Slash Records and released a self-titled album that they had recorded in July 1982. The music was an innovative combination of American folk music and indie rock, and commonly referred to as folk-punk.

Available for the first time ever in any format, this film features extremely rare archive footage of cult legends The Violent Femmes

Formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1980 singer/guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie and percussionist Victor DeLorenzo are quite rightly regarded as the Godfathers of Folk-Punk. One of the rare American cult bands to achieve mainstream success, they have amassed six Billboard chart albums and three top twenty hits. Their eponymous debut album remained an essential item for record collectors and eventually achieved platinum sales status.

Despite splitting in the mid-eighties, The Violent Femmes remained ever popular, reforming in 1989 since when they have toured and recorded continually and have performed well over 2000 gigs to date. This film features two full shows of the band performing at Manchester, England's legendary Haienda Club in September 1983 and June 1984.

Sorry about the adverts in the middle and the hammy 'creative' stuff in some of the songs but still worth it for some gems by one of the most underrated influential bands. Check 47:53='That's not Fair!' Makes me smile every time.

  • Violent Femmes - Add It Up

    4:44

Released: April 1983 as track #4 on Violent Femmes
    Writer: Gordon Gano
    Genre: Alternative rock, folk punk
    Lyrics:

Day after day, I will walk and I will play
But the day after today, I will stop and I will start

Why can't I get just one kiss?
Why can't I get just one kiss?
There may be some things that I wouldn't miss
But I look at your pants and I need a kiss

Why can't I get just one screw?
Why can't I get just one screw?
Believe me, I know what to do
But something won't let me make love to you

Why can't I get just one fuck?
Why can't I get just one fuck?
I guess it's got something to do with luck
But I waited my whole life for just one...

Day after day, I get angry and I will say
That the day is in my sight
When I'll take a bow and say goodnight

    Oh, ma-mama, mama-mo-ma-mum
Have you kept your eye, your eye on your son?
I know you've had problems, you're not the only one
When your sugar left, he left you on the run

    Oh, ma-mama, mama-mo-ma-mum
Take a look now at what your boy has done
He's walking around like he's number one
Went downtown and you got him a gun

So don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me
Don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me
You know you've got my sympathy
But don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me

So don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me
Don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me
You know you've got my sympathy
But don't shoot, shoot, shoot that thing at me

Broken down kitchen at the top of the stairs
Can I mix in with your affairs?
Share a smoke, make a joke
Grasp and reach for a leg of hope

    Words to memorize, words hypnotize
    Words make my mouth exercise
Words all failed the magic prize
Nothing I can say when I'm in your thighs

    Oh, ma-mama, mo-ma, mo-ma mother
I would love to love you, lover
City is restless, it's ready to pounce
Here in your bedroom, ounce for ounce

    Oh, ma-mama, mo-ma, mo-ma mother
I would love to love you, lover
City is restless, it's ready to pounce
Here in your bedroom, ounce for ounce

I've given you a decision to make
Things to lose, things to take
Just as she's about ready to cut it up
She says, Wait a minute, honey, I'm gonna add it up!
Add it up! Add it up! Add it up!

Day after day, I get angry and I will say
That the day is in my sight
When I'll take a bow and say goodnight

  • Good Feeling - Violent Femmes

    3:53

The song Good Feeling by the Violent Femmes off of their self-titled album.

    Lyrics:

    Good feeling
won't you stay with me just a little longer
it always seems like you're leaving
when I need you here just a little longer
Oh dear lady, there's so many things
that I have come to fear
Little voice says I'm going crazy
to see all my worlds disappear
    Vague sketch of a fantasy
    laughing at the sunrise
like he's been up all night
    ooo slippin and slidin'
What a good time but now
have have to find a bed
    that can take this wait

    good feeing
won't you say stay with me just a little longer
It always seems like you're leaving
when I know the other one
    just a little too well
    Oh dear lady
won't you stay with me just a little longer
Y'know it always seems like your leaving
when I need you here just a little longer
la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

The Jewish Monkeys are masters of identity play, knights of the absurd, musicians and comedians, who deliver an exhilarating show. They love breaking ethnic and religious taboos, combined with liberating salvos of satire. Their neo-Yiddish sound fusion swings between cirque-like chanson and energetically punk-driven pop, while the language alternates between English and Yiddish. They rarely fail to get people on their feet, dancing: from Syrian refugees in a Dresden transit camp to anti-Pegida protesters the next day. Or from culturally savvy music lovers in German, Czech or French clubs and concert halls, as well as to to hipsters in London or Tel Aviv. And now they’re touring with their latest album.

    2:57

Released: April 1983 as track #2 on Violent Femmes
    Writer: Gordon Gano

    Lyrics:

I need someone, a person to talk to
    Someone who'd care to love
    Could it be you?
    Could it be you?

The situation gets rough, and I start to panic
    It's not enough, it's just a habit
    And, kid, you're sick
    Well, darling, this is it

Well, you can all just kiss off into the air
Behind my back, I can see them stare
They'll hurt me bad, but I won't mind
They'll hurt me bad, they do it all the time (yeah, yeah!)
Yeah, they do it all the time (yeah, yeah!)
They do it all the time (do it all the time!)

    LYRICS:
When I'm a walking, I strut my stuff, then I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite, I just might, stop to check you out

Let me go on, like a blister in the sun
Let me go on, big hands I know you're the one

Body and beats, I stain my sheets, I don't even know why
My girl friend, she's at the end, she is starting to cry

Let me go on, like a blister in the sun
Let me go on, big hands I know you're the one

    Whisper:
When I'm a walking, I strut my stuff, then I'm so strung out
I'm high as a kite, I just might, stop to check you out
When I'm a walking, I strut my stuff, then I'm so strung out
