    Troy Andrews alias “Trombone Shorty” est un tromboniste, trompettiste et chanteur qui suscite le respect parmi ses pairs jazzmen, notamment à la Nouvelle-Orléans où il est né en 1986. Il séduit également les stars du rock comme Lenny Kravitz, son employeur régulier, qui était présent sur Backatown (2011). L’album tirait alors son titre du patois local utilisé à la Nouvelle-Orléans pour désigner Treme, l’un des plus anciens ghettos noirs des États-Unis.

    Natif de Treme, Trombone Shorty aime les pulsations funk tribales. Son grand-père, Jessy Hill, a écrit et chanté Ooh Poo Pah Doo, un classique de la soul music, et son frère aîné James Andrews est un trompettiste incontournable de la scène néo orléanaise. Les Andrews : une dynastie musicale, dans la foulée des Batiste, Neville et autres Marsalis. Pour qualifier son mélange sans complexe de rock, de soul, de jazz et de hip hop funk contemporain, Shorty propose une étiquette explicite : le supafunkrock, soit un bouillon de culture aux ingrédients aussi pimentés que la cuisine créole.
