Learning from some of the most accomplished producers and engineers in the industry. Since then, he has worked on countless records with such artist as; Atlantic Records, RCA Records, WB Records, Kelly Clarkson, Sammy Adams, A$AP Rocky, Logic, Lil Yachty, Cam Meekins, Just Juice, Action Bronson, Danny Brown, Fat Joe, Styles P, La Coka Nostra, and many more. • Studio One - Mixing a Full Song Using Only Volume, Panning & Reverb

    48:12

In this video, I mix a full song in Studio One without using EQ, compression, saturation or any other technical tools. The only effects/plugins used are the stock reverb and limiter in S1. Though this is not ideal, it is very helpful when learning to mix as it is easy to become overwhelmed by all the possibilities and decisions involved with conventional mixing procedures. The song used was created step-by-step in the previous videos of this series. Please leave any questions or feedback below in the comments section.

In order for this song to play properly in your copy of Studio One, you will need:
    - An up-to-date, FULL INSTALLATION of Studio One 4 Professional. That means all instruments and loops, including the Legacy and Compatability section, are downloaded.
    - Lydian Loops Vol. 2 (Free loop pack from earlier in this course):

    - The Max Konyi - Razor Studio One project folder:

This lesson is part of a massive Studio One Music Production Course, available for FREE here on YouTube. You can find the rest of the course at the link below. New videos released every day!

Why do I see/hear the word 'Lydian' in these videos?
This Studio One course was originally created to be a standalone course outside of YouTube, and the name of that course/project was Lydian Learning. The name has now changed but everything else is the same.

  • Mixing RAP Vocals Tutorial Exclusive FULL VERSION with PRESONUS STUDIO ONE

    18:40

This tutorial focuses on how to mix a rap vocals with Studio One. This tutorial will give you the mixing rap vocals tips and tricks that you need to make the most out of Presonus Studio One mastering.

Studio One is the mixing technology that delivers the capabilities that highlight your skill set.

Mixing rap vocals like the pro’s starts with the right music technology and knowing how to use it.

This tutorial will show you how to mix rap vocals in Presonus Studio One to help you get the start that you need. Once you have a better understanding of the tools that are available Studio One you will be able to mix rap vocals like a pro.

    Take a Deep Breath.

Mixing samples and mixing demos with this mixing technology is a lot easier than you think, once you have made the right adjustments and have some support through this mixing tutorial you will be mixing vocals like a pro and get the professional sound you want.

This music engineering tutorial will give you the foundation that you need to move with confidence using the Presonus Studio One!

    The Difference In Rap Vocals.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that Rap vocals are Rap vocals but there is a big difference in today’s vocals compared to the days or original Rap vocals back in the 80’s.

Modern mixing today is a lot different so the results are a lot different.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to how to mix rap vocals in Studio One but once you get the basics down pat you can tweak the mixing to meet your specific sound goals.

Becoming a great producer starts with becoming a great listener.

Listen to some old tracks before you get started and compare the different styles to get an idea of what your ideal sound means to you.

    Before You Mix.

Before you get to the meat and potatoes of mixing you will likely have to do a bit of clean up. Rap vocals mixing is not all about the mix it is about making the vocals sound as clean as possible.

Mixing rap music with vocals starts with getting the vocals right. Clean up can be a challenge at times because there are limits to what you can do.

In some cases you get lucky and you have vocals that are already cleaned up but in case they are not try the following:

    • In reverberant space, try subtle gating. Using EQ carefully can tone down the sound of the room or you can mix the track to highlight the reverb so that it sounds like it is a part of the master plan.

    • Comb filtering is another issue that you will likely have to overcome. Vocals that are tracked in corners or in closets will clean up nicely by easing off the filter.

A good hip hop voice mix starts with getting everything cleaned up before you start mixing the sound.

    Frequency Range.

One of the keys to professional music production is finding the ideal frequency match for vocals and music.

Figuring out how the vocals and instruments related to each other in specific frequency will help you to design a unique sound.

    Master Compression.

Compression is also one of the secrets that professional producers use to get the sound that really enhances the rap vocals.

    No Air.

Typically rap vocals are lacking “air”. Which means you will have to get the reverb added on your own.

Filtering is another important part of the process. Filtering the sound around the vocals is just as important as highlighting the vocals.

Deciding where the vocals live on the frequency is one of the most important parts of mixing and mastering rap vocals.

    Let’s Get Started.

This tutorial is going to take you through the steps of creating the professional mix that will really get some attention.

Watch the video, learn the professional tips and tricks of using the Studio One and then apply them.

In past years, getting started as an audio engineer or music producer was extremely complicated and expensive. You had to purchase tape machines, mixing consoles, microphones, racks and racks of gear, and many other things just to be able to learn.

Many of these devices required extensive experience to operate correctly before you could even get started with recording. But in this modern digital age, we are blessed with the DAW, or Digital Audio Workstation.

This type of software offers potential that couldn’t be imagined even just 20 years ago.

But for many newcomers to the world of music making, deciding on which DAW to use can be a complicated proposition. There are so many choices on the market today - Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton, Studio One, FL Studio, Reaper, Cubase, Nuendo, Audacity, Garage Band… with so many options, where does one begin?

Some of these DAWs are designed for specific applications and types of music. For example, Ableton and FL Studio are mainly geared towards producers working with hiphop, rap, techno and other forms of electronic music. But even excluding these, the list of options can still be overwhelming to look at.

In this simple, easy-to-follow video, we break down the basic features of one of the most up-and-coming DAWs on the market today - Presonus Studio One 4. This software offers the best of both worlds - it’s extremely easy for beginners to use, but extremely powerful when you need it to be.

It features many of the advanced features of professional software like ProTools, but in a much simpler interface that’s much less intimidating to use. Studio One is also suitable for any part of the production process.

Whether you’re recording a simple demo, making a beat, mixing a song, or mastering a full record, Studio One provides an extensive selection of tools that are perfect for any situation. It even comes with a variety of samples, loops and plugins to help you achieve the sounds you’re striving for.

Just follow along with our simple overview and you’ll be creating amazing music quickly and easily in Presonus Studio One 4.

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or expert engineer or producer, this beginner lesson is guaranteed to get you up and running in Presonus Studio One 4 in no time.

I’m Alex Scott, an award-winning musician, engineer and producer based in Denver, Colorado. I’ve had the honor of working with many Grammy award winning and nominated artists and producers over my decade-long career as a professional in the music industry.

I’m also an educator with extensive content on guitar instructional site JamPlay as well as here on Consordini. Over the last ten years, I’ve worked on hundreds of projects, from producing records with independent and major-label artists to working on indie video games, commercials, films, TV shows, and just about anything you can imagine.

I’m excited to share everything I’ve learned from my years of professional experience. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for more great content like this, including reviews, tutorials and vlogs about all things music. Thanks for watching!

  • Mixing Trap and Hip Hop Vocals | Presonus Studio One |

    51:16

In this edition we take a look at how to get vocals to sit right over an instrumental. The vocal in the example is less than perfect having been recording in an apartment dinning room. We illustrate the two most crucial parts of getting the vocals to sit right in the mix.

SPOILER ALERT: They aren't plug ins lol!

Also there is another lil rant in the begining and I think its important part of having the perspective of what it takes to mix vocals, but if you just want to see me adjust knobs on a compressor fwd past 10 minutes.
