All of the sounds you hear in this tune were created by the piano; electric, steel, acoustic & carbon fiber cellos; vocals; and a tambourine.

This video was filmed at Bryce Canyon National Park in cooperation with the Garfield County Office of Tourism. For more information go to Thanks to Bruce Fullmer and Mark Wade for their assistance in location scouting and project management. See more of Bryce Canyon in this video:

    Story behind the song:
Have you ever awakened with a melody in your head and you don't know how it got there? That was the beginning of our PianoGuys' version of David Guetta's Titanium (feat. Sia). Paul especially loved this tune -- he lobbied us to arrange the song, but after we could not find a way to begin the arrangement. Every time we tried it just didn't flow. We also were concerned that the hook of the tune was nothing but the beat :-) and lacked a lead melody, which would make it more difficult to convey with piano and cello. Steve woke one morning and couldn't get a melody out of his head. It was Gabriel Faure's Pavane -- a hauntingly beautiful melody that weaves in and out of richly sequenced harmonies and fluid counter-melodies. It had been a favorite of his as a child, but he hadn't heard it for years. In the studio that same morning we tried the melody over the top of the chorus of David' Guetta's Titanium and it was like witnessing a reunion of two childhood friends. The main melody of the Pavane and its supporting chords, transposed and changed stylistically to mimic Guetta, also fit nicely as the intro we had been searching for. And we thought since Guetta and Faure are both French it must have been meant to be! :-)

If you're not familiar with Pavane Listen to a version of Bobby McFerrin singing it with La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra: (As a boy Steve heard this very version live in concert and it evidently had an indelible impression on him!)

Classical music is such a big part of who we, ThePianoGuys, are. You can hear it in everything we write. We love pairing it with the music of today.

This was the most difficult music video to set the stage for thus far. We considered so many locations -- a copper mine, a steel mill, an industry factory, a mountaintop ski resort, a wildflower meadow, a desert bluff, and many others. As you know we love putting pianos and cellos in crazy places (a common comment is 'how the heck did they get the piano up there??') -- places that show off breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. When Mark Wade with Garfield County's Department of Tourism called and offered full creative access to its national parks we abandoned all of our earlier ideas and focused on showcasing Bryce Canyon National Park -- an incredible place of raw beauty and geological history written in rock. It is a place like no other. We feel so blessed to have been able to film there.

This video features a NEW STEEL cello made by Dawson Swan: Thor II -- with significant improvements over Thor I. It's lighter, easier to play and it looks awesome! Dawson is an incredible artist! Thank you again, Dawson!

The writers, Paul Epworth and Adele, described Rolling in the Deep as a dark blues-y gospel disco tune. As we started arranging this cover, the song came alive when we found a destined matchup in the melody from Gustav Holst's classical piece Jupiter-a deep melody that rang out when layered on top of everything we were creating for this arrangement. To make a long studio-story short, it all came together after that. ALL sounds were created by acoustic & electric cellos (5 different cellos) and piano. By the time we were finished we had used 60 tracks.

In this arrangement we borrowed a melody from Gustav Holst's Jupiter Suite from The Planets -- op. 32 -- be sure to listen to his original composition -- it's amazing! The melody we used comes in about half-way through the piece.

    The story behind the song:
Each time we write/arrange a tune we take a journey. We have to admit-this journey took us a lot further than we expected. Retracing our steps reveals several factors that made this a reality. As we started arranging it we had serious writer's block. Perhaps some of the worst we've ever had. In fact, one day instead of writing we went around the entire studio with a can of WD-40 and coated every piece of metal to ensure that we were a squeak-free studio. Then on a whim we decided to back away and take an entirely new approach to the song-an African approach. It may seem random in retrospect, but at the time it was an exciting way to restart the arrangement. It was working, but our journey still was on foot until we called in Alex Boye, one of the most talented people we've ever met. Alex has this contagious energy that gave new life to the song and to us. He sings the tune in 4 different languages: Swahili, English, Yoruba (his mother's native language), and Alex's own African scat (we'll call it...Scafrican) =) Most of the words you hear are translated from the lyrics in the original Coldplay Tune. We're huge fans of Alex -- We bet you are now too!

When we had finished the arrangement we all agreed that listening to it was like taking a journey to somewhere remote and ruggedly beautiful. How were we to depict this... READ MORE HERE:

We'd like to thank from the bottom of our hearts, Duane Fielding who offered the helicopters and SkyHawk for not dropping the piano... :-) Half-way through the first day of shooting we discovered that, as typical guys, we had forgotten to bring ANY food or water to this remote location. We had two options: one, wrestle a mountain rodent and harvest cacti or two, starve. Duane, our head pilot, took pity on us. He took off (literally) and moments later landed in a Wendy's parking lot, ordered 5 of everything (sadly, he couldn't use the drive through) ...took off again and brought us chicken sandwiches and hamburgers via airmail. Thank you Duane! Flying in your helicopter was a dream come true for us despite the lack of doors. =)

    Filming location:
    (Southern Utah)

All the instruments you hear are REAL instruments. We wanted to be authentic about this. The following percussion instruments were used:

    Djembe (drum)
Agogo bell (like a cow bell)
    Udu (the porcelain vase-looking drum)
    Guiro (gourd scraper)
    Djabarra (shaker)
    Rain stick
Pangi seed shaker (goat toenails or Unas)

Hi guys! Since our last video (Can't Help Falling In Love) went over so well with you all (thank you so much for the views and comments on that one...we were blown away!), we were inspired to stick with the classics again this week. We hope you love What A Wonderful World as much as we do! (Too bad we can't see any trees of green or red roses yet here on the east coast, where it still might SNOW next week ❄️????????‍♀️, but this song is helping us pretend Spring has actually arrived. ????????????????????????????) Hope it does the same for you. Happy Spring! ❤️

    Lyrics:

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world

    Brooklyn Duo Bio:

Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 750,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.

In 2014, on a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube. Shakira noticed the duo’s cover of her song Empire and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys. The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on YouTube encouraged the couple to continue creating videos.

Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 90 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 8 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song “Blank Space” sounded like a song people should walk down the aisle to). In 2016, the couple started a second YouTube channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience. With this new channel, Marnie and Patrick aim to showcase high quality, live performances of classical music. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets and percussionist Ivan Trevino.

In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect, a collective of some of the best young musicians in the U.S., to produce a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” One of their covers was also recently featured in an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

    Story behind the song:
Our kids give us great inspiration for our music. When Jon's 17-year-old daughter said how much she loved this song, Jon decided to try it. He experienced a flood of inspiration. Never has a piano part come
together this fast, Jon says. Steve experienced similar inspiration
while composing the cello parts. Since the lyrics suggest a bride
walking towards the groom in a ceremony we thought we would include a quote from the Bridal Chorus by Wagner in the climax of the song. (It is carefully disguised).

As it seems to always go, Paul and Tel didn't find the spot until they spent 9 hours driving around southern Utah the day before the shoot looking. After getting a little discouraged by not finding anything that great, they just happened to check out a little-hidden spot right near Baker Dam and thought it was perfect for the song. The next morning we all loaded up the piano and headed out there to film, but after getting the Truck and Trailer stuck and waiting for the sun to move, we didn't get started filming until that evening having about 3 hours of light. It was so fun to film and play in the middle of the trees!

All the sounds you hear were created by 90 tracks of cello, piano, and vocals (with a little wind and suspended cymbal)

This is NOT green screen. Everything you see is real snow and ice.

    Story behind the song:

So who doesn't love a story about an estranged ice princess, a dynamic mountain man/reindeer duo and a snowman obsessed with warm weather? We all loved the movie Frozen and its single, Let It Go. So much emotion, energy and drama packed into one tune. But we thought we'd add a little more drama...by melting together Let It Go and themes from Vivaldi's classical piece, Winter. (You can watch an impressive performance of the original here: - see if you can find where we used the main themes from each of the three movements.) Vivaldi's almost reckless string motives helped us surround the determined, upbeat melody and chords from Let It Go with intensity and uncertainty. We wanted the music to alternate between freezing and thawing, representing the opposing forces throughout the Frozen story.

We were extra ambitious about capturing as much definition of the ice as possible so we decided to give 4K a try (a step up from 1080p HD) using the RED camera (same camera used in filming The Hobbit). So we called up our buddy Jacob Schwartz who rented us his awesome camera set up! It was challenging for Paul and Shaye to learn a whole new system and camera minutes before the shoot, but after awhile started getting the hang of it...:-) Editing the video on the other hand was a whole new process in processing that 4k footage. It took us 4 times as long to edit the video and fix glitches that kept happening working with such large files! After this experience, we might have to give 4k a try again, but not until we've mastered the art of it all which this video got us on the path at least.

Special thanks to Ryan Davis and his way cool crew at the Midway Ice Castles for hosting us. They built this winter palace one icicle at a time. Amazing! They were so nice and they really went the extra mile for us.

    Lyrics:

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

    I had to find you
    Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

    Tell me your secrets
    And ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start

    Running in circles
    Coming up tails
    Heads on a science apart

    Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
    Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh, take me back to the start

    I was just guessing
    At numbers and figures
    Pulling the puzzles apart

    Questions of science
    Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

    Tell me you love me
    Come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start

    Running in circles
    Chasing our tails
    Coming back as we are

    Nobody said it was easy
Oh, it's such a shame for us to part
    Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start

    Brooklyn Duo Bio:

Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 600,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.

On a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube.

Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 80 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 7 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song “Blank Space” sounded like a song people should walk down the aisle to).

The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (Youth Orchestra) and its director, Kayson Brown, approached us with this idea. We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of Beethoven's 5 Secrets, combining OneRepublic's tune Secrets with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the bridge the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from!

What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his weakness. He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had secrets that had to be forced into in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the secrets of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him.

Story behind TPG's Story of My Life

As we began our arrangement of One Direction's Story of My Life we wanted it to feel like each note of the music was a word in a vivid story being told. When writing a song sometimes you just need a little spark. That catalyst came from a piece of classical music -- one that had such a storybook feel to it that we gleaned inspiration from it: Saint-Saëns' Aquarium from his Suite Carnival of the Animals. It's an incredibly beautiful and transportive piece. You can listen to it here:

When we were finished we all stepped back and listened as objectively as we could, imagining what sort of story was being told in order to identify the best places to film. What happened surprised us all. The story itself took over. It was like film score -- but in reverse... more here:

    Who are The Piano Guys?
    ____________________________
Since formally introducing themselves in 2011 on YouTube, The Piano Guys – Steven Sharp Nelson (Cellist/Songwriter), Jon Schmidt (Pianist/Songwriter), Al Van der Beek (Music Producer/Songwriter) and Paul Anderson (Video Producer/Entrepreneur) – unassumingly arrived as a musical phenomenon. Over the course of eight studio records, they have impressively tallied 2 billion-plus global streams, clocked upwards of 1.6 billion YouTube views, earned six No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Top Classical Albums Chart, sold out concerts in almost every corner of the world (including Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Red Rocks, Sydney Opera House, and Paris Olympia), averaged nearly 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and attracted a diehard audience. Not to mention, they’ve appeared in The New York Times, Fast Company, BuzzFeed, Mashable, and People, were featured on CBS Sunday Morning and performed on the TODAY Show, Good Morning America and The Tonight Show.

Their latest album, “Limitless,” catapulted to the top of the charts, holding the No. 1 spot on iTunes, Apple Music and Amazon classical charts. With over 28 million digital streams worldwide, the newest release from The Piano Guys lives up to the name Limitless as the foursome once again leap past boundaries for the 13-track collection. Limitless features the guys’ take on the latest pop hits – from Shawn Mendes to Ed Sheeran to Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, The Piano Guys continue to break new ground, even exploring the K-Pop world with two BTS covers. Rounding out the collection are two tracks from the box office hit The Greatest Showman as well as four new original compositions, culminating in a diverse new album with massive multigenerational appeal.

The Piano Guys are watched or listened to over 3 million times EVERY DAY.

    Story behind the song:

Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson were booked for a Piano Guys show in Hawaii. How could we resist filming our next video in the land of Aloha -- beautiful beaches, green mountains, and fresh pineapple?? We went to our Founders and Facebook fans to ask what song they wanted us to play there. Somewhere Over the Rainbow was the nearly-unanimous response. But you know how we are ... we couldn't just do this tune by itself...so in the studio we found a made-in-heaven matchup in the timeless melody from the Shaker Hymn Simple Gifts written in the 1800's (also used by Aaron Copland in his Ballet Appalachian Spring). We feel it's an especially appropriate mash-up because of our profound love and respect for the Hawaiian culture -- a people who are so good at finding happiness in simplicity. As you probably could hear we borrowed a lot of ideas from Iz's version which has become the stuff of legend. This arrangement is, in part, a tribute to him.

Getting a piano onto a sandy beach and then onto a big hill in a famous ranch within the SAME day (we only had 8 hours to film) was no small feat. The only thing harder would be to be predict Hawaiian weather, which ended up being our biggest challenge.

We had a little extra help on this one. My mother, Lynne Sanders Nelson -- a main source of my inspiration for pursuing music -- passed away early in life from the effects of a brain tumor. She was an incredibly-gifted musician and taught me to play music passionately rather than just playing 'notes' on a page. 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' was one of her favorite songs. We finished this arrangement on what would have been her 70th birthday. Somehow she helped. I miss her so very much, but when I play songs like this I feel like I get to be with her again. This song is dedicated to her.
    -Steven Sharp Nelson

Thank you so much to the Kualoa Ranch who bent over backwards last-minute for us and provided us such a beautiful place to shoot. Visit their site at -- when you visit Hawaii be sure to stop by and take a tour -- its where dozens of huge blockbluster movies/tv shows have been filmed.

    Behind the Scenes:

Moonlight was inspired by the great composer Ludwig Van Beethoven and his masterpiece Moonlight Sonata, written for piano. It was written for piano, of course, because the electric cello had yet to be invented...

I used both of my 5-string electric cellos (one tuned extra high and one extra low) and the acoustic cellos to give this piece a unique feel and a high level of emotion.

I used another melody from Beethoven -- try and guess what it is (guess before you scroll down to the credits where it is listed!) It starts at 1:21 and reoccurs throughout the tune. This melody happened spontaneous in the studio and saved the tune from a bad case of writer's block. -Steven Sharp Nelson

We’ve been so excited to release this one! We recorded it way back in the summer with our friend Cicely and had so much fun working on it. While she was in town, we also recorded a big project for our Brooklyn Classical channel together! We chose nine of our favorite opera arias and arranged them for cello and piano, and recorded live video performances of all of them. (People always say the cello is the instrument that sounds most like the human voice, and we have to agree!) We’ll be releasing all of those videos over the coming weeks on the Brooklyn Classical channel, with the first one coming out today.????Click here to watch that video now ( and make sure to subscribe and click the bell so you're notified whenever a new video goes up. The whole album is available for listening now on Spotify too.
On another note, thank you all so much for your messages of congratulations after our little announcement in the last video! In case you missed it, we’re expecting another baby in the new year. We know it’s gonna be busy with two kids…that’s why we’re training Emmie now to help out by taking over our interview videos. She’s already a pro with the “hi guys!”…just needs to work on her timing a little!

    Well, baby, they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound
I found a way to let you win
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
    I got my angel now
    It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you break it
It's the risk that I'm taking
I ain't never gonna shut you out
    Everywhere I'm looking now
    I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby, I can feel your halo
    Pray it won't fade away
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo...

Hit me like a ray of sun
    Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
    Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again
    Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you break it
    The risk that I'm taking
I'm never gonna shut you out
    Everywhere I'm looking now (...)

    BROOKLYN DUO BIO:

Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 900,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.

In 2014, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube. Shakira noticed the duo’s cover and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys. The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on YouTube encouraged the couple to continue creating videos. (Other notable shout-outs since then include ones from Taylor Swift, a-ha and Pearl Jam.)

Today, Marnie and Patrick have released over 100 videos on their Brooklyn Duo YouTube channel and 9 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Ariana Grande. In 2016, the couple started a second YouTube channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience through high quality, live performances. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets, percussionist Ivan Trevino and cellist Cicely Parnas.

Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” Their music has also been featured on several television shows, including Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and America's Got Talent.

    Story behind the song

Hello/Lacrimosa (or Chello, as it has affectionately been called in the studio) is a musical experiment bridging 18th-century spiritualism and 21st-century secularism. Imagine Mozart and Adele in the same room in an intense co-write session, quill and pen in hand, respectively. Picturing this hypothetical hangout helped to spark the creative combination of the two.

Haven't heard Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem? It is a powerful piece of music. Listen here:
As you can hear, both tunes' divergent traits presented challenges. One wallows in a wide, painstakingly minor 12/8 time and the other drives a poignant bi-polar major/minor common time. One draws its power from the fullness of a grand chorus and orchestra, the other from the isolation of a lone voice and piano. One conforms to age-old counterpart canon and musical theory, while the other is conveyed via verse/chorus pop song parlance. However, they share the same fundamental feeling -- Lacrimosa (meaning weeping or tearful) mournfully bemoans spiritual death, while Hello gripes about relationship regrets. Different centuries. Different realms. Same emotion. Perhaps we aren't as far from our predecessors as we think we are.

You'll hear towards the end of the tune an attempt by both motifs to meet in the middle as the two textured melodies intertwine. In their respective stories both plead for reconciliation. Neither seemed to find it apart, but together they sing of a second chance.

The sounds you hear were created by 100 tracks of acoustic and electric cello, an instrument that has been emoting for centuries – an apt candidate for the task of tying together Hellocrimosa (our alternate affectionate title).

This video was filmed at one of our favorite locations: Tuacahn Amphitheatre, utilizing different patterns and settings of giant mirrors, diffused light, and some very cold fog. How is the camera not reflected in the mirrors? Simple. Magic!

All of the sounds you hear were created by cello, piano, and vocal textures

This video was all filmed at outdoor locations located within a 20-mile radius in Southern Utah. No green screens were used in the making of this music video. Read about the location miracle here:

    Story behind the song:

Since the beginning of The Piano Guys, Lord of the Rings has been our most requested work. As we reach one million subscribers we wanted to dedicate this arrangement to our subs. This was an intimidating project -- encompassing the power and the beauty of the many musical themes throughout the movies; capturing the emotion and the epic nature of the story; and all with a few cellos, a piano, and a couple Canon 5D Mark IIs. We normally write our tunes during intense compositional binges -- the bulk of our songs have been written within the period of a few days. This one was different. It was a drawn-out process during which we studied the music of The Lord of Rings, contemplated what themes to incorporate, how they could tell the story by flowing from one to the other. We also spent a lot of time finding new ways to imitate instruments from various sections of the orchestra using Steve's cellos -- from the brass section through the woodwind section to the percussion section.

We love the story of The Lord of the Rings. It is a tale that has spiritual meaning for us. We love its messages -- that even the smallest person can change the course of the future, that there's good in this world and it's worth fighting for, All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us ... and that everyone should have a second breakfast. =) We love the poignant depiction of loyalty between the Fellowship of the Ring (we even included the Fellowship theme three times - at 0:18, 3:58 and at the end of the arrangement - to feel like a common thread in the music as it is in the story.) We wanted to paint these messages musically as vividly as possible. Like so many things in the creative realm, and to paraphrase Mr. Bilbo Baggins, the hardest part was the first step. After a brief introduction of the Hobbit Theme and Fellowship Theme (arguably the most relevant musical moments) we felt strongly that we needed to begin with the deeply touching melody that serves as the soundtrack to Arwen's vision of her future son (in the extended version of Return of the King). That gave way to a Divinely-led journey from the Shire and Rivendell through Isengard and Rohan to Gondor's victory over Mordor. We endeavored to represent each of the major allies and opposing forces in the story:

    The Elves 0:44
    The Ents 1:48
    Rohan 2:08
    Mordor and Isengard 2:32
    Hobbits 3:08
    Gondor 4:11

    Lyrics:

    Loving can hurt
    Loving can hurt sometimes
But it's the only thing that I know
    When it gets hard
You know it can get hard sometimes
It is the only thing that makes us feel alive

We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
    Hearts are never broken
    Times forever frozen still

    So you can keep me
    Inside the pocket
    Of your ripped jeans
    Holdin' me closer
    'Til our eyes meet
    You won't ever be alone
Wait for me to come home

    Loving can heal
    Loving can mend your soul
And it's the only thing that I know (know)
I swear it will get easier
Remember that with every piece of ya
And it's the only thing we take with us when we die

We keep this love in this photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
    Our hearts were never broken
    Times forever frozen still

    So you can keep me
    Inside the pocket
    Of your ripped jeans
    Holdin' me closer
    'Til our eyes meet
    You won't ever be alone

    And if you hurt me
That's OK, baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won't ever let you go

Wait for me to come home

    Oh you can fit me
Inside the necklace you got when you were 16
    Next to your heartbeat
    Where I should be
Keep it deep within your soul

    And if you hurt me
Well, that's OK, baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won't ever let you go

    When I'm away
I will remember how you kissed me
    Under the lamppost
    Back on 6th street
Hearing you whisper through the phone,
Wait for me to come home.

    Story:
As we polished off our arrangement of Lewis Capaldi’s stirring song, “Someone You Loved,” we felt a strong need to find a way to express the emotion in our tune beyond the bow and the keyboard. We needed a poetic love story spoken without words, but with melodic motion. Before our last note hardly had time to rest we contacted Charity and Andres, dance world superstars who caught everyone’s attention when they captured the first perfect score on “World of Dance.” We had complete faith in these two artists, to tell the story that needed to be told. It turns out, Andres is likely going to be leaving for 2 years to serve a full time mission for his church. Charity is supporting him in this, but the two are experiencing intense bittersweet feelings regarding their impending partnership’s hiatus. This is the story they told in dance to our music—a story of sadness, of support, of joy, of unity, of strength, of longing, and of unconditional love. The mastery in their choreography is unmatched and has the power to stir up tender feelings for someone you loved.

Story behind the music and the video:
While shooting our video Lord of the Rings Steve's steel cello was damaged. When we reattached the fingerboard the strings were too close to the surface and this caused a buzzing sound when plucked. The Sitello was born -- a cross between an Indian sitar and a cello. This sparked an idea. We love incorporating ethnicity into our arrangements...... Read the rest of the story here:

    Story behind the song:
As always our subscribers give us the best song suggestions. we think Just the Way You Are is one of those melodies that only comes along every once in a while. The word 'love' is tossed around alot today. This arrangement goes out to anyone that feels something so deeply for someone that words can't even begin to describe. Jon says, I tried to represent the song lyrics which match how I feel about my wife to a tee. The way I feel about her affected the musical arrangement big time. It shows that 'amazing' girl how I feel about her (after 20 plus years of marriage.) We hope everyone can relate. We hope everyone hears the very deepest side of what they feel for someone when they listen to this song.

    The Story:
It was 2011. Late in the year. What started as a small town ambition to sell pianos through social media had shown some promise as a standalone YouTube music video channel. We had a few videos under our belts. We had a handful of subscribers. We were building steam. We were loving it! But one looming, sour-faced, obstinate obstacle stood in the way.

    Reality.
How could we sustain this? How could we keep this pace? We had robbed too much time away from family, day jobs; we were living two lives - nocturnal and diurnal - in an attempt to write music and film videos in every spare second. Our day jobs, including the Piano Store itself, saw a sharp decline due to negligence. Reality hit. It hit hard. Our music videos were not providing near enough to provide for our families, our number one priority. They say that the only difference between a large pizza and a professional musician is that a large pizza can feed a family of four!

So we hatched this crazy idea.

What if our genesis, as official full-time Piano Guys, could be crowd funded? What if we offered special packages to people in exchange for their support to help us get our wheels off the ground? We launched the Founders program. We were cautious in our optimism, but we were completely overwhelmed. The generous support... READ MORE...

SPECIAL THANKS to Earthworks Microphones for helping us make this shoot happen (and for making the best microphones!). Also, big thanks to Paul Jacobson from Avatar Productions and Pierre Rueda for their video expertise.

Hi guys! Sorry for the long wait since our last video. We've been busy recording tons of new stuff and we're excited to share it all with you very soon!
Some of you know that we occasionally play for weddings. As you can imagine, we get a LOT of requests for Canon in D, and we discovered that there were no good arrangements available anywhere for piano and cello! Hard to believe given its popularity. So we decided to make our own! We tried to stick as closely to the original as possible (which was written for three violins and basso continuo), and we performed it *not* at a snail's pace so the bride can actually make it down the aisle without putting everyone to sleep. ????(Yeah, we said it! Nobody likes a slow processional!) Also, the number one complaint about this piece from cellists is always how booooring it is to play because they literally have to play the same 8 bass notes over and over for the entire piece. Problem solved with this arrangement because the cello never has to play the bass! ????(The piano does, but we get lots of other fun stuff too so it's ok!) So for all you musicians out there playing weddings, we hope you enjoy playing this arrangement a little more than the ones you were used to...You can get it from ????Be sure to let us know in the comments if you do!

    BROOKLYN DUO BIO:

Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 800,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.

In 2014, on a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on YouTube. Amazingly, Shakira noticed the duo’s cover and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire!

In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect to produce a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” Their music has also been featured on several television shows, including Grey's Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars.

We loved digging into Happier’s sticky melody and rhythms, and as we did we discovered something we didn’t expect. An innate nostalgic feeling. And that could be a big part of the reason why Dvorak’s American String Quartet worked so well as a mashup melody. When I (Steven Sharp Nelson) was just hitting high school and struggling to stay motivated in my cello practice, my father did something ingenious. He recruited two very sharp, very cute girls and put them opposite me and my brother in a newly formed string quartet. Suddenly, I was much more motivated to practice! And not only that, a whole new world of music opened up to me. Hearing and performing the intricate energy of some of classical music’s greatest works in such a fundamental setting — where four musicians literarily depend on each other to complete the chord, catalyzed my desire to compose music. And at the center of that newfound passion was this piece of music: Dvorak’s American String Quartet. Wow. He really knew how to write for the cello. No longer was I lulled into a subdivided bass-note stupor! There were SOLO lines that soared, syncopation, polyphony, there was rapture, serenity, and there was fire in this music! It was like watching a dramatic love-story-turned-action movie for the first time. We chose the second movement’s incomparably stirring, lyrical melody to play off of Marshmello and Bastille’s pithy hooks. And it’s only fitting. Because after experiencing Dvorak, as a cellist, I was much Happier.

    The Story:

Ironically this song for us was about beginning again...and we filmed it in a café...on a Wednesday (see Taylor Swift's lyrics). No kidding. But what's crazy is we didn't plan it that way. Just like so many of our songs and videos, miracles made it happen.

We were writing another cover tune and it was flowing like molasses uphill in January. :-) After beating our heads against the wall for too long trying to make it work we stepped back and reset...and decided to begin again. ;-) But like so many things in life the struggle had a great payoff. While we were writing the cover-tune-fail we found inspiration from a classical piece, as we often do -- J.S. Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze (Cantata No. 208 -- you can hear a version of the original here: As we were listening to this piece it called to memory a tune from Taylor Swift's album, Red. Her Begin Again melody and Bach's Cantata seemed so well matched it was a mash-up made in Heaven. We switched to Swift's tune immediately and our arrangement finally started flowing like the Fountains of Versailles. :-) There were even moments (especially the Bridge melody of Begin Again and the primary melody of the Cantata) when the two seemed to play off and echo each other naturally. We wanted this arrangement to be a mix of the two styles -- a pastoral, classical feel paired with a pop-country vibe ... polished off by a bit of Valentine romance. :-)

Then it was on to find a location! We just did what we always do...find a bunch of locations that have potential only to find, at the last minute, that they don't fit, can't work, or won't allow us to film...then, after all we can do, we're gifted a location by a miracle! :-) The day before we were scheduled to film, one of us woke up with an image in his head -- a vision of a green European garden café. Where could we find any living plant, let alone a quaint outdoor Euro-café, in the middle of winter in Utah? A GREENHOUSE! As this blessing would have it, we found a perfect indoor garden setting in a greenhouse with a café vibe that was just what we had envisioned. And it was 4.3 miles away from where we were meeting! On top of that, an employee there said she was a big fan and went straight to the owner for us...who turned out to be a high school friend of Steve's parents! And what day could they fit us in? A Wednesday. We don't believe in coincidences. Life's too meaningful to believe in meaninglessness. :-)

    Video Tech Info:
This video was shot using our new Canon 5D Mark IIIs. We used a technique known as lens whacking to get the filtered sunray light look on some of the scenes, courtesy of our good friend Shaye Scott who joined us on this shoot. We couldn't quite fit a jib in the greenhouse so we used a very long monopod to simulate a couple jib shots.

**ALL THE SOUNDS YOU HEAR WERE CREATED BY THE PIANO AND ONE CELLO BOW** (WITH SOME VOCALS AT THE END)

    STORY BEHIND THE SONG
The idea: A couple months ago the 5 of us were gathered round a piano prepping for a video shoot scheduled for that day. We were brainstorming ideas when one of us (can't remember who!) got off task and starting flicking a piano string. Since all of us are poster children for ADHD, it wasn't long before ALL of us had joined in -- banging out a beat, plucking a string, or hitting keys. The brainstorming meeting had been sabotaged beyond repair, but another music video idea was born!

The song: We went through several song possibilities before landing on What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. We like this song because it's catchy and the music, lyrics, and video passed our sesame street test (meaning family friendly). We thought about the ramifications of taking on a teenybopper boy band tune as five middle-aged married guys who are desperately holding on to their hairlines. One of us even has a son older than the guys in One Direction (we won't say who) :-) BUT you know us -- we love a good challenge! This one was so fun to write that the challenge part of it never was felt. We just acted like kids playing the piano and it totally worked! :-) After we figured out the main techniques of playing the piano unconventionally we loved experimenting with swapping out chords and throwing the structure of the song around until it clicked.

The location: Where to film? Fitting in video shoots between touring, writing, recording, editing, and spending time with family has always been a challenge. Let's be honest, even getting all 5 of us in the same place at the same time has been a challenge! We had a big sold-out show at the Sandy, Utah Amphitheater. We all determined to be at the show and film the video right on stage sometime between sound check and the performance. Sounds like a good idea right? Well...because of a lot of factors, including weather (we had a huge storm sweep in and knock everything down on stage during sound check) the only time we had to film was between the hours of 2AM - 7AM the morning of the concert. In the video at 2:30 you can see the morning light start breaking -- we literally played into the sunrise! :-)

Many thanks to the awesome guys at Annex Recording and Giles Reaves (engineer) for letting us record at their studio. Check them out at

Thanks to Sandy Amphitheater for letting us film this video on their stage. They were so great to work with and we've performed so many times there the staff are all old friends (especially you, Mearle!)

And thanks to Cole Adams, the lighting genius - who hung out all night allowing us to pull an all-nighter to film this.

Story behind the music and the video:
We get asked all the time, 'How do you like touring?' We love it. We especially love meeting the people who have been listening, sharing, and supporting our music. We are so grateful for the opportunities we have, thanks to you. But as we travel along with our equipment, checked luggage, cellos, and carry-on bags we carry a feeling that never gets checked away. We miss our family. We miss home. When we first heard Phillip Phillips' Home we couldn't help but be emotionally drawn to it.

We started arranging this tune by slowing it way down...then speeding it way up...then splitting the difference until it laid into just the right tempo. Once we had the right feel it flowed. Jon's piano licks especially shined in this arrangement -- lending the energy we needed to portray the feeling of heading home after a long journey. The lyrical, placid cello melodies represent a fatigued serenity. The last chorus is the sound of what we feel when we see our families after a long tour -- the familiar smells, the familiar smiles, and the incomparable feeling of belonging...click here to read the rest of story

We want to thank Breck Dockstader, his family, and the Cliff Rose Lodge for helping us with the locations of this video. Breck hung out with us the entire time ensuring we had everything we needed - he helped move the piano, offered location options, and even let us stay in his family's lodge. We'd like to dedicate this video to his father Dale Dockstader, whom we consider a very special fan and whom we all felt was enjoying the video shoot with us, but from the best vantage point of all.
Be sure to check out there beautiful lodge!

    Story behind the song:
This week we thought we'd reach back to our roots. We rolled the cameras in a place where they have rolled many times before -- Sundance, Utah. Steve has spent many summers there in a cabin built by his grandfather. It's also where he proposed to his wife (she said yes, by the way =) Such an incredible place of beauty and raw nature merited a piece of music that matched the setting. This arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee was the first song Steve and Al recorded together. It is based upon and inspired by an arrangement of James Stevens for 9 voices (arranged for the BYU singing group Vocal Point). For us music often is a spiritual experience -- a way to connect with others, with nature, and with a loving God. This video is not meant to exclude those that do not believe in God. We hope everyone can find beauty in this music and relate it to how they feel when they experience joy-whether it's joy from hiking in nature, spending time with family, serving others, or relaxing on a beach. Enjoy!

    The Story:

It was May of 2011... a few days after Lindsey Stirling and ThePianoGuys had each filmed their first official YouTube videos (Spontaneous Me and Michael Meets Mozart). Lindsey and Steven Sharp Nelson (cello guy) shared the stage at a concert. After the show, they talked enthusiastically about a YouTube collaboration down the road. A year and a half and a million fan requests later and it's finally here! We love Lindsey Stirling! It feels like we're family -- we started on YouTube around the same time, we grew up in the same place, we all LOVE what we do and we're all REALLY good dancers...except for ThePianoGuys. =)

We chose the theme from Mission: Impossible because we thought it would be a great music video to be ourselves in -- to play off each other, throw in some special effects, a couple stunts, and some slapstick! The concept for the song and video began with spy gadgets -- we wanted all of them to be string instrument parts! Then how would we pair up graceful, pro-dancer Lindsey and not-so-graceful Steve? =) It was simple. Steve had to carry around his own chair! Then the graceful/not-so-graceful thing contrasted beautifully! When Jon Schmidt (Piano Guy) was cast as the villain and donned an eye patch we knew we were on to something...(Read rest of the story here

    THE STORY:
Yes. That is the Great Wall of China. No. It's not green screen.

Since ThePianoGuys began, it has been our impossible dream to put a grand piano on the Great Wall. People laughed at us when we said we were determined to do it. It is done. All of us at ThePianoGuys would like to //dediCate this music video to the visionary behind it all and the man whose dream this has always been: Paul Anderson.

It is difficult to detail each of the many miracles that were stitched together in time turning this dream into actuality. Master Oogway, himself, said, A destiny is not realized until we let go of the illusion of control. To say we made this happen.... Read the rest of the story here:

MERRY CHRISTMAS Everyone! Here's our version of Angels We Have Heard on High, with a few other Christmas favorites mixed in. Can you name them all?

We wrote and performed this in the same style of our music video What Makes You Beautiful ALL the sounds you hear were created by different parts of the piano (except the vocals of course).

We wanted this to be a fun music video full of Christmas Spirit. While the video primarily presents the fun side of Christmas (complete with cameo appearances by Christmas icons which helped us film), we wanted the music to portray what, to us, is the true meaning of the Holiday season. As we wrote it we imagined the shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And how the Angel appeared to them, announcing the humble birth of the Savior of the World. How incredible it would have been when, suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! (Holy Bible, Luke Chapter 2)
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We love you!

We hope you enjoy our arrangement of Chris Medina's tune, What Are Words. We were inspired by this song because it was originally written as a tribute to Chris' fiance who suffered a brain injury as the result of a car accident. Chris wouldn't abandon her when she needed him most -- the lyrics are beautiful, filled with poetic promises. Listen to the original song and learn more about the story here:

We would also like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Peter Hollens and his angel wife, Evynne whose transcendent voices gave this arrangement wings. Please check out their channels here:
