  • Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Jah Work

    5:31

Click to buy on iTunes • Amazon.com • Google Play

Ben Harper is helping to raise money for the family of Australian pro skateboarder Lewis Marnell, whose untimely death in January at the age of 30 left his family in dire financial straits. A lifelong skateboarding enthusiast and friend to skaters around the world, Harper has reunited with the Innocent Criminals for the first time since 2007 to re-record the song Jah Work from his 1997 album, The Will to Live. The song is now available on iTunes, with all proceeds going to the Lewis Marnell family memorial fund.

Lewis was a brilliant artist and athlete not to mention a truly beautiful soul. We loved him and his contributions to skating, and we thought a song would be a wonderful way to celebrate his life and help his family. said Harper.

Marnell died Jan. 18 from complications of diabetes, a disease he lived with from the age of 10. He did not allow his condition to impede his meteoric skateboarding career. He skated with such passion and style that can't be replicated, he made all his tricks look effortless and his love for life was infectious. In 2008 he made his mark when he went pro for Almost Skateboards and he was named Skater of the Year from Australian skateboarding magazine slam. Marnell got married in late 2012, and died only a few months later, leaving his family with a large debt. Global efforts to help the family financially ensued, with Harper's being the latest.

All proceeds go the family of Lewis Marnell

  • The Innocents : Identikit Girl / Lets Get Pissed

    6:23

Independent single from 1980 by Adelaide band The Innocents, formerly known as the Distressed Innocents and also known for a while later as The Noise, after the Tasmanian power-pop band also called The Innocents began to gain some prominence.

Band members were Arturo `Archie' Larizza (bass), John Cavuoto (vocals), Chris Purcell (guitar) and Richard 'Dick' Daniels (drums).

Review from Roadrunner magazine, May 1980. Both sides of the single were staples of local Adelaide community radio at the time. Some sources say only around 200 copies of this record were pressed.

After the band's run of four singles, Larizza joined a mid-80s line-up of The Saints.

The video for this single was filmed on Sydney Harbour in 1986. The song appears on the 2CD compilation The No Hit Wonders from Down Under.

  • The Fabulaires : The Remedy

    3:36

Australian band which formed in Adelaide in 1979 but relocated to Melbourne in 1980, with a track from their only recording, the mini-album 'Apocalypso' (Rough Diamond, 1981). Not a performance video, but with a collection of rare photos, taken from Nightmoves - presumably a clip the show put together, with somewhat tinny audio.

    Band members were:
Wayne Burt (guitar, vocals, ex- Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons)
Greg Champion (guitar, vocals, ex-Tidewater, later to Young Homebuyers, Coodabeen Champions and solo fame)
Jo Moore and Jane Lewis (vocals)
Mick Teakle (guitar, later to Young Homebuyers)
    Ian McDonald (bass, ex-Stars)
John James Hackett (drums, percussion - later to Mondo Rock)

The band had split by the time the mini-album was released, after a car crash had killed singer Jo Moore earlier in the year.

  • The Consequence - Corruption Of The Innocents

    4:15

    Recorded in Loki's bedroom :D

    Lyrics:

You live a life full of pain and drugs,
Nothing but a run down mess
    You're inches away from comatose
    I'll show you consequence

    Through your eyes
    You're uncorrupted
    Through my eyes
I'll never stop until your dead

It's a game of life or death
    Your next move is critical
    So make your choice
    You only get few

    Move!

Your whole life the ones you loved have suffered
Now it's your choice to take their place

    Through your eyes
    Your wishing it's over
    Through my eyes
    I'm savoring the moment
    Through your eyes
    Your wishing it's over
    Through my eyes
    I'm savoring the moment

You have minutes to choose your fate
    It's coming to an end,
It's coming nearer, get off your knees
    God can't answer your calls
    Because silence is
The most powerful scream of them all.

Overwhelmed by fear and creeping death
    Raise your head and concentrate

Crying out for mercy Please, please, please
Raise your head and fall to your knees

Raise your head and fall to your knees
Crying out for mercy Please, please, please
    This ends here
    Say goodbye

  • The Fabulaires : The Remedy

    3:50

Written and sung by Wayne Burt from the band's only official release, the 1981 'Apocalypso' 12 EP. There's another video of the song on this channel, which Nightmoves put together with rare pictures but very ordinary sound. This is the full stereo version.

The Fabulaires were an Australian R&B group formed in Adelaide by Greg Champion on guitar and lead vocals, John James J.J. Hackett on drums (ex-Stars), Jane Lewis on vocals, Ian McDonald on bass guitar (ex-Stars), Jo Moore on vocals and Mick Teakle on guitar. They relocated to Melbourne in the following year where Wayne Burt joined on guitar and vocals (ex-Daddy Cool, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons).

They recorded their debut six-track extended play, Apocalypso. Two tracks, The Remedy and Ghost Riders were recorded in July 1980; a third track, Sunglasses, was recorded in December; and the final three tracks were recorded live at the Aberdeen Hotel in Fitzroy North in March 1981. Hackett left to join Mondo Rock and was replaced by Geoff Hassell on drums.

While touring, Moore died in a car accident in April 1981. The group broke up and the EP was released posthumously, late that year, on Rough Diamond Records.

Champion and Teakle joined Adelaide-based group, Young Homebuyers, which issued two singles followed by an eponymous EP in October 1982. From 1981 Champion was a radio presenter, as a member of Coodabeen Champions, on the Coodabeens Footy Show and The Saturday Soiree. Burt was a member of the Black Sorrows from 1983 to 1985, from 1988 to 1991 and again in 1998. Hackett remained with Mondo Rock until 1990.

  • Silverchair - Tomorrow, Early Demo, 1993

    6:34

From A New Tomorrow - The Silverchair Story, by Jeff Apter:

Terry Farrelly, who ran Platinum Studios... contacted the band and offered them some studio time... They'd recorded originals 'How Do You Know?'... and I Felt Like It... Including a six-and-a-half-minute long version of 'Tomorrow,' which became their first single and the hit that launched the Silverchair juggernaut.

Obviously, I don't own the rights to this, but at this point, does it matter?

    Lyrics:

    Alone again
    Returning home
    But I sense
Something is different this time, awakened inside
And I know so much more

    Cold, and dark
    Was the void
    And any other day
    Fear would have taken her
    But not today

Knowledge to cultivate life, the power to kill
Giving her the restraint to contain the thrill
Open-eyed exploration and eons of science
All were given to ensure compliance
    Knowledge information power of will
All provided with the ring of a bell
Make sure to give her the good sense
    To use them well

    Scenes playing in my mind
Secrets of things we've tried to find
    Though how I know, I can't recall
But I have to heed their call

She must be benevolent, to bring what we need
    She must not seek vengeance
    Innocents will not bleed
We must ensure that peace will forever rule
To make her more chill we’ll give her something cool

    I can't think of a thing I don't know
    Everything has an answer
    I don't know if it's a blessing
    Or a curse
