    Lyrics:

I would walk ten miles on my hands and knees
Ain't no doubt about it baby it's you I aim to please
I'd wrestle with a lion and a grizzly bear
It's my life baby but I don't care

    Ain't that tuff enuff (X4)

For you baby I would swim the sea
Nothing I'd do for you that's too tuff for me
I'd put out a burning building with a shovel and dirt
And not even worry about getting hurt

    Ain't that tuff enuff (X4)

  • The Fabulous Thunderbirds - Why Get Up?

    4:49

Live from Austin Texas, Nov 26th,1986. T-Birds are: Jimmie Vaughan Lead Guitar, Kim Wilson harmonica & vocal, Preston Hubbard bass, Fran Christina drums and Junior Brantley keyboards.

    (*) WHY GET UP!
Why get up, why get up
How can I get up, why should I get up
    This whole world's gone crazy
    Think I've seen enough
I'm gonna sleep forever why get up

Phone keeps ringing right off the hook
Some bill collector, I know what cooks
Think I'll stay in bed, dream all day
    World outside bugs me anyway
When I get things going, the going gets rough
So I ask myself why get up

    Chorus

Went to the doctor, he said lose some weight
If you don't do it quick, we'll have to operate
I talked to my lawyer, he said case is closed
That woman got it all even the garden hose
Staring at the ceiling thinking just my luck
Better roll back over why get up

    Chorus

Well I can't quit drinking, I'm nervous all the time
When I wake up, it's like a ton lead on my mind
What was it, I said to that girl last night
She really got upset, I best stay out of sight
I remember a gun and calling somebody's bluff
I better duck under the cover why get up

    Chorus

    Summary:
Kim Wilson and Jimmie Vaughan had a great blues band when they were both in The Fabulous Thunderbirds. After the departure of Vaughan, the band carried on, but it has really become a vehicle for Wilson. Prior to the recording of this King Biscuit Flower Hour show in 1986, the Fab T-Birds had persevered through four critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful albums before striking gold this same year with Tuff Enuff.

This show represents the band at its creative zenith, and is one of the best examples of how blues, rock and R&B were fused continually into a cohesive musical showcase. Featuring most of the Tuff Enuff LP, this show opens with Can't Tear It Up Enough, and never lets up until after The Fabulous Thunderbirds rocked the house significantly and ended with The Crawl.

Originally formed in 1974 by Jimmie Vaughan and Kim Wilson, the group quickly established itself as one of the premiere bands on the U.S. blues bar circuit. The original version of the band featured female blues star, Lou Ann Barton, but she left before the band really got rolling. They recorded initially for Takoma records and eventually Chrysalis, and were one of the first bands to break out of the Texas blues circuit and cross over to a more mainstream audience. Much of that success came in 1986, when four years after being dropped by Chrysalis, they convinced Epic Records to sign them and bring in producer Dave Edmunds, a star in his own right. Edmunds had successfully transformed the Stray Cats into MTV superstars just a few years earlier.

The result was Tuff Enuff, the hit album and single that provided other follow-up hits such as their version of Sam & Dave's Wrap It Up. This recording was made as the group was promoting Tuff Enuff, and was recorded at the legendary Capitol Theater, the main venue used by promoter John Scher in the '70s and '80s.

  • The Fabulous Thunderbirds -Twist of the Knife

    4:24

From Walk that Walk, Talk that Talk (1991).

It's a shame when you got me where you want me
But you want me somewhere else
And it's a shame the way you take my love
And baby on and off the shelf

It's a shame, shame, shame, the way you run my life
But you always insist on another little twist of the knife

Tell me how many times can I believe you
When you're out with your best friend
When you don't even care if the whole town sees you
    Out with another man?

It's a shame, shame, shame, the way you run my life
But you always insist on another little twist of the knife

Your lips, I can't resist, your eyes, they hypnotize
With an endless supply of bullets to bite
So every day I can take another little twist of the knife

Your lips, I can't resist, your eyes, they hypnotize
With an endless supply of bullets to bite
So every day I can take another little twist of the knife

Well, a man takes an ounce of dignity
And a pound of foolish pride
And he gives it up for a woman like you
    To keep her satisfied

It's a shame, shame, shame, the way you run my life
But you always insist on another little twist of the knife

Baby, it's a shame, shame, shame, the way you run my life
But you always insist on another little twist of the knife

    It's a shame, it's a shame, shame, shame
It's a shame, it's a shame, shame, shame, shame, shame
Oh baby, don't do me like that

Yeah, and until I get there baby
All I can do is hope and pray
Well you say you'll stick with me baby
Stick with me through thick and thin
    I know someday baby
My bad luck has got to end
    Just wait on me baby
    I'll be there one day
Yes, and until I get there baby
All I can do is hope and pray
Well you say you'll stick with me baby
Stick with me through thick and thin
    I know someday baby
My bad luck has got to end
    Just wait on time baby
    I'll be there one day
Yeah, and until I get there baby
All I can do is hope and pray
Well I live the life I love
And I love the life I live
    The life I live baby
Is all I have to give
Well, you just got to wait on time baby
Yes, just wait on time baby
Yeah, be good to me baby
Because until I get there baby
All I can do is hope and pray

From the HAMMER ARCHIVES -This is an audio recording of my live radio broadcast of the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco 6/25/80. This was recorded for KTIM in San Rafael. Like all of my live recordings this was mixed direct to 2-Track Reel To Reel using headphones.Sitting in the club with the loud P.A. sound trying to drive the amp in my mixing board loud enough to hear what I was mixing. If you've ever been to a live concert, then, you know how loud it can be.Mixed on a cheap Peavey MkII 12 channel mixing board to Technics RS-1500 2-Track Reel To Reel.I will be posting most of my live recordings from San Francisco from 1979-1981. Recorded,Mixed & Produced by: Terry Hammer ; (p)1979-1980 : Terry Hammer.
