reels irish flute Michael Coleman John McKenna
I love these irish reels and have been playing them for years, having learnt them from the playing of Michael Coleman and John McKenna respectively. The drive and rythm of the music comes through in those old 78 recordings, and that's where I seek my playing inspiration from. Slan.

  • Scottish mandolin: Christ Childs Lullaby , on Gibson Ajr mandolin

    1:44

This is a traditional Christmas carol from the Hebrides. It was recorded by the Boys Of The Lough on their Christmas album The Day Dawn (which also featured Midwinter Waltz, which I have also recorded). This particular mandolin arrangement is by Nigel Gatherer ( who has based the decorations and grace notes on the inflections in the singing of Cathal McConnell on the Boys Of The Lough recording.

Played on my 1921 Gibson Ajr, which has a nice ringing sustain that suits the tune and the arrangement.
