Enhanced with improved HQ stereo audio, The Association perform Cherish with lead vocals by Terry Kirkman and Russ Giguere. The other members of the Sixties pop vocal group are Larry Ramos, Jim Yester, Brian Cole, and Ted Bluechel.

The Association performed Cherish live and lip-synced on Solid Gold in Hollywood, CA. The romantic soft rock ballad with beautiful intricate harmonies remained at number one for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Cherish was ranked the #2 song of that year by Billboard.

David Cassidy recorded his own version of the Sixties oldie on his 1972 album Cherish. His version of Cherish reached number nine on the Hot 100 chart, and spent one week at number one on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Music oldies fans can enjoy some of the biggest hits of the '60s and '70s on the Happy Together Tour this summer. The following acts will be part of the 2018 show:
    - The Turtles
    - Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night
    - Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
    - The Association
    - Mark Lindsay, former Lead Singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders

    Lyrics
Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could
Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you
Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what
Seems to be the life that you could
Cherish as much as I do yours
Oh I'm beginning to think that man has never found
The words that could make you want me
That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound
That could make you hear, make you see
That you are drivin' me out of my mind
Oh I could say I need you but then you'd realize
That I want you just like a thousand other guys
Who'd say they loved you With all the rest of their lies
When all they wanted was to touch your face, your hands
    And gaze into your eyes
Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could
Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you
    And I do cherish you
    And I do cherish you
    Cherish is the word

Who's tripping down the streets of the city
    Smilin' at everybody she sees
Who's reachin' out to capture a moment
    Everyone knows it's windy

    And windy has stormy eyes

  • The Association - Walk Away Renee - 1983

    2:46

The Association's cover of Walk Away Renee was recorded in collaboration with their original producer, Curt Boettcher, for the MIke Love & Dean Torrance 1983 cassette tape, Rock 'N' Roll City. Walk Away Renee was originally made popular by the Left Banke back in the 60s.

Here's an interesting excerpt from an Oct. 12,1984 issue of Goldmine magazine interviewing Association guitarist, Jules Alexander, on their then latest recording:

GOLDMINE: Walk Away Renee on the Rock 'n' Roll City tape was
produced by Curt Boettcher. How did you reassociate with him?

JULES ALEXANDER: I hadn't seen Curt in years. This writer from England
came over to interview me, and he told me that he was a close friend
of Curt's. So, we began to hang out together. When the opportunity to
record again came up from Mike Love, Curt suggested we do the song.
Curt's really into high techno-pop.The only instrument on Walk Away
Renee is a piano; everything else is synthesized.

GOLDMINE: Will there be more recordings in the future?

JULES: Yes. We've just signed a long and involved deal with Hitbound
Productions. We're just beginning to see all the possibilities for our
    music today.

What would end up getting recorded was one album featuring the surviving members (minus Jim Yester) which featured them singing rock 'n' roll/pop standards, New Memories (1983 - Hitbound). The album today is nearly impossible to find on vinyl/cassette and no issue has been made to cd.
The Association would later go onto record a second version (better in my opinion) of this song that can be found on A Little Bit More (1995).

The Association is one of the most popular and successful bands to have come out of the sixties. They have sold over thirty million records, earning six gold discs and one platinum. Their album, The Association, Greatest Hits (Warner Brothers), continues to be one of the longest best-selling albums in the history of the company.

Their number one hits, Never My Love, Windy, and Cherish have achieved standard status, receiving almost as much airplay today as they ever have.

The songs include Goodbye Columbus. which was the title song for the film and was written and performed by The Association. It also won the Golden Globe and Foreign Press Awards. Other songs, including Requiem For the Masses, Time For Living, Along Comes Mary, Everything That Touches You, and Six Man Band, showcases the versatility, the carefully crafted vocals, and the intricately woven instrumentation that is the signature of The Association, a cornerstone of American pop music.

The Association was formed in 1965 after the breakup of an eleven-man electric folk group called THE MEN, the first folk rock group in America.

The six-man Association rehearsed for five solid months and then began performing at nightclubs (The Troubador, The Icehouse, etc.), coffeehouses, folk clubs, high schools, colleges, proms and parties throughout California.

The intense rehearsal and hard work paid off. Before the release of their first album, the group had a fan base exceeding twenty-five thousand. That base soon became millions as Along Comes Mary and Cherish, both from their first album, topped the charts.

The Association is the first electric group to break through the anti-rock biases in many of the major venues across the country. They were the first electric group to perform at Hollywoods Greek Theatre, The Coconut Grove, The Copacabana, Tanglewood Music Festival, Blossom Music Festival, The Latin Casino, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Ravinia Park.

In 1967 The Association was given the honor of opening the first international pop festival in America, The Monterey Pop Festival.

The Association appeared on every major television variety show at the time — Ed Sullivan (twice), The Smothers Brothers (three times), American Bandstand (again and again), Shindig, The Carson Show, The Cavett Show, The Andy Williams Show, The Carol Channing Specialthe list goes on and on.

However, being on the road for so many years, with over two thousand concerts and television performances, inevitably took its toll, and the group began parting ways in 1972 to pursue individual careers and interests. ~SOURCE:

  • The Association - No Fair At All

    2:35

Sourced from an original mono vinyl pressing of The Association's second album,Renaissance, Jim Yester's No Fair At All featuring an alternate lead vocal that wasn't in the more popular stereo mix. Even though, the song originally peaked at only a #51 on the Billboard charts, this is truly an underrated effort by The Association. Another mix in mono featuring the vocals featured in the stereo mix was the mix issued on the single.

Oddly enough it reached #1 in Manilla.
