Leon Bridges: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

    18:02

September 08, 2015 by BOB BOILEN

We probably should have shot this Tiny Desk Concert in black-and-white. Listening to Leon Bridges, I hear a sound with its heart and soul rooted in 1962. There's purity in his voice that's unadorned, untouched and unaffected by 21st-century pop. It's just soul.

Still, the songs from this 26-year-old Fort Worth singer feel refreshing in the context of the day. Surely there's touches of Sam Cooke's spiritual sound, but Leon Bridges has a way of making the familiar feel adventurous and new. It may be because this is all new to him. He only picked up the guitar around the age of twenty and only began listening to classic soul music after friends told him he sounded like R&B musicians from long ago. What Leon Bridges has tapped into on his debut album with fellow Fort Worth musicians including Austin Jenkins from White Denim is a universal sound, an undeniably heartfelt sound which transcends age, race and musical tastes. He's easy to love and tough to resist and his performance at the Tiny Desk with his fabulous band is a testament to what it means to sing from the heart.

    Alex Chapman - desk
    Nick Sollecito - hand percussion
    Rich Ferri - hand percussion

    Cry for You
you cut my hair in your kitchen
now I'm all over your house
we'll treat this place like a crime scene and we'll figure it out

you're on a poster in Brooklyn
and someone tore off the mouth
I'll take it as a sign you're still being yourself

and I won't cry for you, or you, or you ooh
and I won't cry for you, or you, or you ooh

and when you moved down to Jackson
it made me wanna go south
when you needed me most but you wouldn't reach out

so I won't cry for you, or you, or you ooh
I won't cry for you, or you, ooh ooh

    uh oh
it's the life you've always known
    so it goes
so it goes, it goes, it goes goes goes
    so it goes...

you're always on a new mission
    plotting some other route
when you're finally done all you're left with is doubt

you never learn how to listen
    now you live by yourself
it's called growing up and it's starting right now

so I won't cry for you, or you, or you ooh
I won't cry for you, or you, ooh ooh

    so it goes
it's the life you've always known
    so it goes
so it goes, it goes, it goes goes goes
    so it goes...

Relaxing Music: work, focus, light, spa music - 9 hours mix

    9:8:51

A long, light and relaxing music mix: Background music for work, to focus, study, concentrate, be creative, for use as spa music or simply for pure enjoyment. Original music I composed and created for the YouTube community and beyond.
    ► Enjoy a 24/7 relaxdaily listening experience:

This music mix video represents most of the music I created during the first two years of my relaxdaily project. It might be especially useful for you if you like to hit one button in the morning and have music playing for almost the whole day.

May the music be a positive energy in your life,
    Michael (relaxdaily)

ps: what do you think of the simple sky and clouds video? It's probably my least expensive video production so far, as I simply recorded some cloud formations I liked during the summer simply out of my apartment window. When you think about it, it's just air, water, sun and wind. But, after editing this video (yes, I did speed up a few sequences - especially in the beginning of the video), I somehow enjoy looking at the sky even more. Sometimes our mind gets the true beauty after one spends some time with a subject - be it a thing, nature, a person...

You can subscribe to my channel here:
    or visit my website:

music and video © 2011-2013, relaxdaily

...Relaxdaily's background music instrumentals: beautiful, light, inspirational music that can be used as a soundtrack for multiple activities. Depending on your interest you might use my music in your relax radio playlist, as yoga music, as music while you're studying, doing homework, working (mentally, creatively), reading, writing, while thinking or reflecting, dreaming, reviewing, making future plans. Some use it as sleep music (I personally think there's better sleep music out there, but it seems to work ;) Some even listen to it in their minecraft music playlist. Call it chillout, smooth, ambient, New Age, instrumental, or background music - this is not as much about a genre as it is about a feeling. A way of life. With the relaxdaily project, I try to take a little heat from our (generally) too busy lives. I try to deliver a soundtrack for you, when you feel the need for some positive, calming, inspirational tunes.

    Lyrics:
Down in the gutter and looking for trouble
    Or something to that effect
And there she was, a metal cross ironically 'round her neck
And then she kissed me on the lips
And a fever came without a warning

    Said give me a holla
And then I will follow you down into the dark
And I was left in the depths surrounding her feral heart
Oh, there's just something about the sun
That seems so very, very boring

What did you think when you made me this way?
What did you think when you love me this way?
Hold me so close when we get to the gates
And we'll be together forever and ever and more

If you desire then you be my fire and I'll be your gasoline
I'm getting sick of all the kicks this city is selling me
And she said: Hey, let's get away
And I'll be your new religion, baby

What did you think when you made me this way?
What did you think when you love me this way?
Hold me so close when we get to the gates
And we'll be together forever and ever and more

    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    (Hold me close)
    (Smother me)
    Hold me close
    My little Draculove
    Wrap your arms around me
    My Draculove
    My Draculove

What did you think when you made me this way?
What did you think when you love me this way?
Hold me so close when we get to the gates

    LYRICS
    All that I want
    Is to wake up fine
    Tell me that I’m alright
    That I Ain’t gonna die
    All that I want
Is a hole in the ground
You can tell me when it’s alright
    For me to come out

    HARD TIMES
Gonna make you wonder why you even try
    HARD TIMES
Gonna take you down and laugh when you cry
    THESE LIVES
And I still don't know how I even survive
    HARD TIMES
    HARD TIMES
and I gotta get to rock bottom

    Walking around
    With my little raincloud
    Hanging over my head
    And it ain’t coming down
    Where do I go?
    Gimme some sort of sign
    Hit me with lightning!
    Maybe I’ll come alive

Tell my friends I’m coming down
We'll kick it when I hit the ground

Animenz - Pokémon medley piano Tutorial ▶ Pikasfed

    10:28

▶I was a big fan of the first generation of the pokemon games - pokemon blue / red - and I can still remember all the hours I have spent on this game with my gameboy. This game essentially defined my childhood and that's the reason why I can still remember so vividly the game soundtrack - even after all these years. I still know, how to perform the missingno. glitch with the item duplication 128x, and I can still remember, how much of a bitch the rival trainer was - always showing up in the most inconvenient moments ever. ◀
    (Love this quote :3)

It's done. It is! It's finally done! I still can't believe it.
I started this project a long time ago, you probably don't remember when that was. I started transcribing the medley 6 months ago, in September 2017, just before the start of school. Who would have ever said that I would have taken me so much time, eh Animenz?

    I admit it, I kept this as a side project for most of this period. I had to study and I wanted to improve my piano skills and work on other songs;
at first I wasn't having much fun transcribing, probably because it's a little bit boring if you don't know how to entertain yourself, but I kept working on it maybe once or twice a week for a few hours a day, hoping to finish this transcription soon.

It's December, Christmas is approaching; in this period I completely forget about this project that I was working on. After two months of pause, I decided to keep transcribing the medley, but this time, I would have dedicated more time and attention to it. In this period something magic-like happened.

    ...

    I feel like I know you, Animenzzz. I haven't met you, I don't know your name, but it feels like I know you, know how you think, how you behave and how you act, I consider you a friend of mine. Transcribing for me is like looking inside someone's heart and studying it;
By transcribing your improvisation I discovered what was going through your mind in that moment, how you felt and how you managed to picture that emotions in the music. Transcribing truly is a unic thing that everyone should do at least once in his life, even if he doens't play the piano. But not just a piece, something as long as this piano medley, because transcribing a long video will necessarily take a lot of time if you want to be accurate, and in this time you will live a journey, the same journey that the performer's mind has lived in that moment. Probably this is the reason why i know you.
    --

It's February, I've been working really hard on this project in this month, and recently something strange but beautiful happened. I dreamed about you, Animenzzz.
I was in my room, and instead of my desk, instead of my laptop (where I transcribe), there was you with your piano (that was stabbed in the wall actually xD), and you were playing beautiful melodies not just for me, but for thousands of people who were watching you since you were streaming the performance live on your channel.
This was such an incredible dream, and I hope one day I will be able to meet you and listen to you playing live, not just for me, but for all of us people who admire your work.
(This means please come play live in Italy c:)

I don't have anything else to say, I hope my letter wasn't too long to read, and that you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed transcribing your medley.
    Just, farewell

    Your dearest,
    Pikasfed

Paul Hindemith - String Quartet No. 4, Op. 22 With score

    26:45

    -Composer: Paul Hindemith (16 November 1895 – 28 December 1963)
    -Performers: Los Angeles String Quartet

String Quartet No. 4, op. 22, written in 1921

    00:00 - I. Fugato, Sehr langsame Viertel
05:18 - II. Schnelle Achtel, Sehr energisch
10:12 - III. Ruhige Viertel. Stets fließend
20:29 - IV. Mäßig schnelle Viertel
22:09 - V. Rondo. Gemächlich und mit Grazie

The numbering of Hindemith's quartets has remained a bit confusing because some catalogs and recording labels have been slow to designate the 1915 Quartet in C as No. 1. For years, it had been thought lost (the composer suppressed it and would not allow it to be published), thus leaving each succeeding quartet with a lower number. This Op. 22 Quartet was designated as No. 3 up to the 1970s, when the First Quartet was finally taken into account.

The Hindemith Fourth is his most popular quartet and one of his more direct in expression and style. It is cast in five short movements. The first, Fugato Sehr Langsam (very slowly), is fairly chromatic and features much brilliant contrapuntal writing. The second, marked Schnell Achtel (fast), is bristling with energy and features deft use of rhythms throughout. The middle movement, Ruhige viertel (calm), shows hints of Bartok in its harmonic and thematic fabric, and the last two panels are fashioned in part after baroque concertante models. The fourth movement is marked Massig Schnelle Viertel (very fast), and the fifth is a lively, attractive Rondo. Certainly this work must be assessed as one of Hindemith's finest early chamber works.

    That you can hear and..

Know how my heart yearns, and how my insides churn, and how my cheeks burn from the weekly storm
And how my face turns before you return to the wall and then down the floor

    But I keep only
    Seeing rain
    I will say no
But you keep crawling in my brain
    I wanna get lost
    Run away
    In the dark
    Is where I’ll stray

    I gotta write a song
But I wanna feel my words
And I keep getting it all wrong
Think it out, write it out, rip it out, start all over ooh

    And I keep only
    Seeing rain
    I will say no
But you keep crawling in my brain
    I wanna get lost
    Run away
    In the dark
    Is where I’ll stray

I wanna feel the way I used to
I wanna move the way I used to groove
I wanna feel the way I used to
I wanna move the way I used to groove

    But I keep only
    Seeing rain
    I will say no
But you find your way into my brain
    I wanna get lost
    Run away
In the dark is where I
    I keep only seeing rain
    I will say no
But you keep crawling in my brain
    I wanna get lost
    Run away
    In the dark
    Is where I’ll stay

I wanna feel the way I used to
I wanna move the way I used to groove
I wanna feel the way I used to
I wanna feel the way I used to

Moor Hound, God Took Mom // Take Away

    3:31

In this installment, not even the police can stop us.
Also of interesting note is that Moor Hound, AKA Steve Marino, easily holds the title for most GemsOnVHS videos.
This is somehow despite the fact that he doesn't even live anywhere near us. Oh well, we're happy for him to have the title, considering he rocks.

Frank Turner - Photosynthesis - Live Austin TX Emos 02-08-2010

    7:31

Frank Turner sings Photosynthesis at Emo's in Austin, TX on 02-08-2010. Possessed By Paul James on the fiddle and Oscar on Spanish. Awesome show! It was loud, sounded much better in person, my little pinhole mic on the camera can't handle this much awesomeness. :)

    Lyrics:

Well I guess I should confess that I am starting to get old
All the latest music fads all passed me by and left me cold
All the kids are talking slang I won't pretend to understand
All my friends are getting married, mortagages and pension plans
And it's obvious my angry adolescent days are done
And I'm happy and I'm settled in the person I've become
But that doesn't mean I'm settled up and sitting out the game
Time may change a lot but some things may stay the same

    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I yeah I won't grow up

Oh maturity's a wrapped up package deal so it seems
And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams
All your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will
Have to grow up be an adult yeah be bored and unfulfilled
Oh when no ones yet explained to me exactly what's so great
About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate
Look I'm meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity
Well if that's your road then take it but it's not the road for me

    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I yeah I won't grow up
    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up

And if all you ever do with your life
    Is photosynthesize
Then you deserve every hour of these sleepless nights
That you waste wondering when you're gonna die

Now I'll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to begin
Now I'll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to begin

    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all yeah I won't grow up
    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
    And I won't sit down
    And I won't shut up
And most of all I will not grow up

    Marco Remus @ Suburbia 22 05 2004

    1:33:26

Marco Remus is an enthusiastic techno-DJ and producer, who freshened up the techno scene with his innovative and inspiring sound … hard, powerful, unusual, absolutely sloping arrangements, sets and productions. However, the love for music leads him to different directions and he is never afraid of changing.

Uncompromising, expressive and unique, this is Marco artistic dancefloor viewpoint.

Marco has travelled the world with his unique representation playing across Europe, Japan, Russia and South – America at the most respected clubs, parties and events.

As a deejay Marco has been around for a while, spinning since 1994 in different clubs & festivals. Marco is playing a wide range of techno and minimal – techno with his own remark. Never boring and always innovating because that’s his nature. Undoubtedly one of Germany’s most established and skilled Techno DJ’s.

Marco Remus is not just a techno DJ, he is an experience. He is a state of mind.

His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good mixing skills. Before each set he always powers down the previous track and leads the packed dance floor in a show of appreciation for the out-going DJ, before kick-starting his performance into a blaze of visuals, an orchestra of special effects which extracts every quality beat of each track as he begins his show. And then at the end, breathless, skin tingling and with a smile on your face from ear to ear, you feel as though every drop of energy has been sucked right out of you.

To watch Marco Remus playing is forceful, dominant, aggressive somehow tender and caring. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he acts out each track. Through the use of effects on the mixing desk, Marco adds his own colour, texture and feel as he maximises every beat of every track to create the unique new techno sound.

During these last 15 years, Marco Remus has extended his activities to artist and label management. Combining his love of quality music and technical knowledge, he has brought true underground techno to Germany. Realising the need to stay one step ahead of the game, Marco felt that producing his own tracks was a natural progression. So he start with his own label called “Nerven Records” in 2000. His label was from the beginning very successful and the releases from Marco (Nerven 01 – “ostcode”, Nerven 04 – “blowjobs ep”, Nerven 08 – “kopfschüttler”, Nerven 19 “indian beast” was praised in many magazines and big support from Rush, Luke Slater, Umek, Sven Vath.

In 2008 Marco starts with his sub – label called “Steckdose” which it stands more for minimal techno. After his first release “Steckdose 001/ DUNKLE NACHT EP” was straight a bomb three tracker! On the fourth release of this sub label, normally known for his more experimental excursions into techno, this are fairly straight-up driving minimal tracks with kickin’ beats and percussion, honky bassline and big warm chords, which is bound to get them screaming.

Paul McCartney - Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five Remastered

    5:33

    Band On The Run

Band On The Run, the second album by Paul McCartney & Wings, was released 40 years ago today (5 December 1973). It was Wings' third album. It became Wings' most successful album and remains the most celebrated of McCartney's post-Beatles albums. It was 1974's top-selling studio album in the United Kingdom and Australia, and revitalised McCartney's critical standing.

In 2000 Q magazine placed it at number 75 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. In 2012, Band On The Run was voted 418th on Rolling Stone magazine's revised list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. A contemporary review by Jon Landau in Rolling Stone described the album as with the possible exception of John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, the finest record yet released by any of the four musicians who were once called The Beatles.

After the success of Red Rose Speedway and Live And Let Die -- the featured song for the James Bond movie of the same name -- Wings began contemplating its next album. Paul and Linda McCartney began writing new songs at their Scottish retreat soon after concluding their 1973 tour.

Bored with recording in the United Kingdom, they wanted to go to an exotic locale. After asking EMI to send him a listing of all their international recording studios, Paul happened upon Lagos in Nigeria and was instantly taken with the idea of recording in Africa.

Alongside the McCartneys, guitarist and pianist Denny Laine, lead guitarist Henry McCullough and drummer Denny Seiwell also were set to go. However, a few weeks before departing in August, McCullough quit Wings in Scotland; Seiwell followed suit the night before the 8 August 1973 departure for Nigeria. This left just the core of the band -- Paul, Linda and Denny Laine -- to venture to Lagos, along with former Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick.

Upon arriving in Lagos, the band discovered a country in stark contrast from their visions of paradise. The country was run by a military government, with corruption and disease running rampant. The studio, located on Wharf Road in the suburb of Apapa, was ramshackle and underequipped. The control desk was faulty and there was only one tape machine, a Studer 8-track. The band rented houses near the airport in Ikeja, an hour away from the studio. Paul, Linda and their three children stayed in one while Denny Laine, Geoff Emerick and Wings' two roadies stayed in another.

The band established a routine of recording during the week and playing tourist on the weekends. They would be driven to the studio in the early afternoon where recording would last into the late evening and sometimes early morning. To make up for the departed band members, Paul would play drums and lead guitar parts with Denny playing rhythm guitar and Linda adding keyboards.

More incidents would plague Wings' Lagos stay. While out walking one night against advice, Paul and Linda were robbed at knifepoint. The assailants made away with all of their valuables and even stole a bag containing a notebook full of handwritten lyrics and songs, and cassettes containing demos for songs to be recorded. On another occasion, Paul was laying down a vocal track when he began gasping for air. According to Geoff Emerick, Sound Engineer for the album: Within seconds, [Paul] turned as white as a sheet, explaining to us in a croaking voice that he couldn't catch his breath. We decided to take him outside for some fresh air...[but] once he was exposed to the blazing heat he felt even worse and began keeling over, finally fainting dead away at our feet. Linda began screaming hysterically; she was convinced that he was having a heart attack...The official diagnosis was that he had suffered a bronchial spasm brought on by too much smoking. Another incident was the confrontation with local Afrobeat star and political activist Fela Kuti who publicly accused the band of being in Africa to exploit and steal African music after their visit to his club. Kuti even went to the studio to confront McCartney who played their songs for him proving that they contained no local influence whatsoever.

Recording of the album was completed by the third week of September and the McCartneys hosted a beach barbecue to celebrate the end of recording. They flew back to England on 23 September 1973 where they were met by fans and journalists. In October, two weeks after the band's return to London, final overdubs and orchestral tracks were added and the album was finished at George Martin's AIR Studios (George Martin was not present).

The cover photo was taken on 28 October 1973 by photographer Clive Arrowsmith against the gable end wall of the stable block in Gunnersbury Park. It depicts the now iconic view of Paul, Linda and Denny plus six other well-known people dressed as convicts caught in the spotlight of a prison searchlight (Michael Parkinson, Kenny Lynch, James Coburn, Clement Freud, Christopher Lee and John Conteh).

The aptly named My Ghost Comes Back witnesses the return of Tujiko Noriko after a hiatus exploring worlds beyond those we regularly inhabit. The results of these travels provided the formula for this, her most accomplished record to date. As rich in ambition as it is skewered in it's melodic stance, My Ghost Comes Back is a decidedly more acoustic affair in which a host of guest musicians incorporate mandolin, viola, musical saw, optigon and other such wares into the exotic environment where her unique songwriting now resides.
Furthering an exploration of unorthodox arrangements, rhythm and melody Noriko concocts engaging pop explosions where flickering electronics, staggered rhythms, shimmering vocals all dance on a plateau of melancholic ecstasy.
'My Heart Isn't Only Mine' launches proceedings as a slow burning landscape of electronics, organ and subdued vocal arrangements which unfold over 14+ minutes, delicately setting the scene for a new kind of record. 'Give me your hands' and 'Minty You' exude a joyous warmth as pop perfection extends into the ether. 'Through The Rain' is a deeply moving example of just how far Tujiko's craft has evolved with it's repetitive keyboard line, melodic development and a striking, ecstatic chorus.
Having spent time to refine her means of traversing the line between pop and experimentation My Ghost Comes Back presents itself as an ecstatic experience. One which encourages repeated listens as a means of unravelling the subtle sonic tapestry within.

    More info:
A year and a half since the release of their debut album, and two member changes later, Sheer are back.

With their new EP, Psychic Quarry, Sheer embrace a change that finds the band at their most relaxed and inspired. While their debut LP Uneasy introduced the band as one with a kinship for dreamy, reverb-induced soundscapes, Psychic Quarry is a much more catchy, and indie rock-informed affair.

The six songs on Psychic Quarry cover a lot of ground – feelings of anxiety and depression, the vulnerability of intimacy, and even the post-election shock many of found ourselves coping with.

Psychic Quarry will be released April 28th on vinyl, as well as digitally.

    57

So sorry everyone that I never posted yesterday but here it is now! Thanks to everyone that has looked at my story and gave me great feedback, you are all awesome Since i posted the trailer I've gotten 11 news subscribers and over 30 views(69 the most) on each video so thank you soo much! =) But most of all i would like to thank TheRealKennaNicole for telling people to come look at my story that means soo much to me thanks!! Now enough of my rambling on to the story..........Enjoy!

    ----------------------------------------------
So, here I am, the start of another boring day in my life. I just dropped Frankie off at North Tigers Middle School saying to wait for me after school to walk him home that I'd meet him by the bike rack and not to mess around with his friends cause we have to go straight home. He nods his head in understanding cause he knows by now that if we don't go straight home after school we're in trouble and Mr.Jacobs hits me. If I haven't mentioned this by now Frankie is the only person that knows whats going on because he hears and see's it happening when mom is out. Whoa, with them thoughts, I didn't even realize that I'm standing by my locker. I should do that more often I didn't hear any bad comments about me on the trip through the dreaded hallways.

I look around to see whats going on and saw loads of girls whisper talking . Must be about me again, well I don't think so cause when their talking about me their pointing, looking whatever at me but their not doing any of that today this must be something good if their paying no attention to me at all which is a plus. My homeroom was past all the girls or should I say barbie dolls {you know the ones with blond hair etc who think their better than everyone else and that they run the school, (sorry to people with blond like no offense just describing the people from my school lol sorry) talking so when walking by I decided to eavesdrop a little to find out whats going on .

-Random Girl - Yeah Lola ,I heard the 3 of them brothers and they all play football.

-Lola(most popular girl in ________ )Well they are all hot, must run in the family. Whats their last name again Megs?

    -Megs - Umm I think it's Jonas .

I stopped dead in my tracks and dropped all my books and asked Did you just say Jonas? which caused everyone to turn towards me. So much for being invisible today .

    - Megs Ewwww did THAT just speak to me, I need to go home now and wash. Everyone laughs while I picked the books up off the ground.

-Lola -Whats it to ya Jacobs if she did?

-Nothing I replied hurrying away. I got into homeroom and sat at my double desk all to myself because no one liked sitting beside me, thinking they could have being talking about any other Jonas brothers(HAHA) not mine cause Jonas is a very common name nowadays.I think. The bell went and everyone piled into class waiting for the teacher to come and take registration. I just sat their thinking about what my brothers that I haven't seen in 7 years could be up to right now. I didn't even notice that the teacher had entered the room with a boy about 510 with brown eyes and brown curly hair he looks so familiar but were have I seen him before I thought until she spoke Class this is .... .....

The Chills - I Saw Your Silhouette

    4:42

I Saw Your Silhouette was the second song The Chills ever played live (the show being an impromptu two song set, playing in between Bored Games and The Clean at Coronation Hall, Dunedin on 15 November 1980) and is one of a large number of early songs from the '80 - '85 period that were never properly recorded in the studio. Most of these songs were later presented in either mixing desk or audience live cassette recordings on the first half of the 3CD Secret Box compilation, released in 2000. The version of I Saw Your Silhouette on Secret Box, however, is from January 1985.

This was a private show, other bands on the bill included The Clean, Tall Dwarfs, Nocturnal Projections and This Sporting Life. The show was not only was filmed by T.V.N.Z. but was also recorded on a TEAC 4-Track by Chris Knox and Doug Hood; some of the audio subsequently released includes Flamethrower by the Chills as one of two B-sides to the Rolling Moon single (1982) and Two Fat Sisters and Happy Birthday John by The Clean, released on their posthumous 12 E.P. Live Dead Clean (1986). The Chills line up at this point in time was Martin Phillipps (guitars / vocals), Terry Moore (bass / vocals), Rachel Phillipps (keyboards) and Martyn Bull (drums).

    One Year In Grand Rapids

    5:11

One year passes by like a flash in the pan. although two years ago it seemed like time standed still. i had less figured out and life wasnt going the way i had intended it to. so i packed my bags and decided to get out of dodge, get out of the hometown life where i could borrow 20 bucks from my dad if i needed to buy some beer for the night. the decision to leave home wasnt out of bordem or anger. it was like i just needed to do something that impressed myself. so i was headed for truck driving school. one month of study and practice in saginaw michigan, pass the dreaded drug test. then another month of one the job training driving all over the most sallitary and boring staes north america had to offer. the first month was pretty easy. staying in a flee ridden hotel and making freinds with people whos lives had not been easy as mine, i have to say i was enjoying the way life was throwing me into situations as to say. you have been living easy dude. for instance my roomate at the hotel was two year younger than me and had 6 kids. he wasnt trying to leave his hometown or find a new life to live. he was there to put bread on the table for his kids and his wife. he was 22. After being out on the road for a couple months its no suprise i wanted to find a new place to live where i could start a new life with my new job. truck driving is a universal trade. you can pretty much live anywhere. so i decided to move to grand rapids. two hours away from my home in traverse city. not a huge leap, but hop at the very least. craigslist is full of freaks. so i knew right where to go to set up my living situatuion. i knew that i could make friends, but if i lived with some people i figured i could make them faster.
this year has been one the a have made some great dissisions in. i dont get to say that alot. i live withm y best friends, i am dating a pretty girl and i am staying in a nice apartment. so not much to complain about. My roomates try to get me out of the house as much as possible. if it werent for them i would probably have been rewatching one piece for the 5th time. its a wierd thing to have made a completely different life in the span of a year. I might have disapointed my 15 year old self. i thought i would be much further along in life and have some dumb job in an office somwhere. but what did i know at 15. and do i know better now doubt it. its not like i am disapointed. i am happy i get to eat, sleep and drink. bars around grand rapids are a mix of drunk kids ready to make mistakes and drunk adults that have already made them. i feel less like the drunk kids these days and more like a drunk adult just trying to make the best of my situation. maybe doing something different will make me more willing to be a fuck up.
being at the center of attention has always been my fortee. and being by myself is also a great luxury. i can tell you that spending a weeks at a time being alone, can be really peaceful. especially when you are trying to figure out whats next. Ive always known that truck driving wasnt going to be perminant part of mylife. just a way to get me to the next step. but what is the next step? i am going to try and make silly videos like these and try to flex my artistic muscles. maybe that will wake me up who knows i would love to make a couple more mistakes over the next year, see what trouble i can get myself in. so stay tuned... you dont want to miss out

Los Campesinos! - Songs About Your Girlfriend

    4:08

Los Campesinos! - Songs About Your Girlfriend
Track #8 from 'A good night for a fist fight'
    Lyrics:

    You do not like us
    Cause your girlfriend likely does
    And all your friends agree
    On her soft-spot for me

    I'll have my hard hands
Over her soft spots soon, you will see
And if you want a list of all her favourite bits
The next time I am free
    Quite comprehensively
I will scrawl them all down for you as an apology

Tell her the times we shared that broke have been repaired
Cinders of our old jokes have once again been stoked
But with a different girl, funnier now they've been rehearsed

All night hung on your every word
'til we were interrupted by the birds singing
    Oh your mask is slipping
    Oh your mask is slipping.

Songs I've written about your girlfriend
Are just psalms of spite since it came to an end

Cause I never made her smile like that
And she never made me smile right back
Although I always made her purr like a cat
She said I never made her smile like that

She stubbed her home club's crest on me with cigarettes
A swift that matched the bird upon her football shirt
She would lift the hem, she would wear that thing like a skirt
The last time I was there she let me wear her clothes
She painted my lips red so that we both ensured
I kiss her every inch, my god the girl looked like she'd burned

All night hung on your every word
'til we were interrupted by the birds singing
    Oh your mask is slipping
    Oh your mask is slipping.

Songs I've written about your girlfriend
Are just psalms of spite since it came to an end
All these songs I've written about your girlfriend
Are just killing time while my heart is on the mend

Cause I never made her smile like that
And she never made me smile right back
Although I always made her purr like a cat
She said I never made her smile like that

The Lisps perform at Ars Nova

    2:46

NYC-based indie band The Lisps ( ) perform at Ars Nova on September 22nd, 2009. From their site:

The Lisps are a New York-based assemblage of 21st century indie-rock vaudevillians. They write songs about science and love, space and pain, babies and documents. Their performances have been known to involve bloody tambourines, wrestling, lipstick smeared melodicas, tap shoes, old kitchen cabinets and dinosaurs. The Lisps are the public/performative version of all the relationships you're struggling with.

    The Lisps are:
    Sammy Tunis - vocals/tambo
    César Alvarez - vocals/guitar/whistling
    Jeremy Hoevenaar - bass/backing vocals
    Eric Farber - drumset/percussion/objects

One of my favorite bands! If they're ever playing near you go see them; they'll charm your pants off.
