  • Strymon Sunset - Dual Overdrive - In-Depth Demo

    18:13

    Strymon sound designer and DSP engineer Pete Celi takes you on a tour of the sounds and features of Sunset Dual Overdrive. Signal path: Suhr Classic Antique Guitar » Sunset Dual Overdrive » Fender Super Reverb » Royer R-121 microphone

    Learn more about Sunset:

    ==========================

    Classic overdrive sound, x2.

    Sunset gives you the best of the best classic overdrive circuits, custom voiced for instantly gratifying control over a huge range of sought-after tones. We studied six circuit types found in many truly timeless and iconic overdrive and boost pedals, and put our takes on all six of them into a single two-channel unit.

    Two pedals at once.

    Sunset is really two customizable overdrive pedals, independently selectable and flexibly routable, designed and voiced for complementary tones when stacked. Six distinct circuits each feel and react differently in your hands, two at once, all in one convenient package. Push your amp any way you want, from transparent “more amp” to heavy saturated fuzz, and all the best places in between.

    Holy Grail tone, minus the quest.

    We are all familiar with the endless search for the ultimate overdrive pedal and the perfect tone. We did the critical listening and custom voicing to design each side of Sunset with just one tone knob, so you can quickly dial in the sound you want. The knob ranges for each circuit type are custom calibrated to provide maximal usable control. We applied the same design philosophy and care to the stacking options, ensuring each combination interacts optimally and sounds great, so a huge range of classic overdrive tones are instantly achievable.

    Optimized Stacking.

    Since the time when overdrives were created to simply push an amp in order to achieve an overdriven sound even at sane volume levels, players have evolved to want more layered, multistage tonalities. Stacking gives you more flexibility and tone range on the floor. You can find an overdrive that sounds good on its own, then run it through a second drive to add new dimensions to your tone. Sunset allows you to use any of its six overdrive circuits on their own, or route the Channel A drive circuit through Channel B, or Channel B through Channel A, or use two circuits in parallel. Routing options have been chosen deliberately to present the best-sounding combinations of drive circuits. Sunset eliminates the guesswork.

    Digital or analog? We chose both.

    Sunset’s input features an ultra low noise, discrete, class-A JFET circuit providing up to 20dB of pure analog gain. With our hybrid approach you get the best of both analog and digital worlds: The JFET stage provides exceptional touch sensitivity and dynamic interaction with your guitar, while the incredibly powerful SHARC DSP facilitates the great level of detailed complexity and responsiveness you’ll want to hear.

  • Strymon Blue Sky reverberator - 10 awesome ambient sounds!

    ►► Free Mini-Course on Ambient Guitar Chord Structures: ????

    I'm making a demo of the Strymon Blue Sky reverb pedal. I tried to use every mode and combinations (Normal, Mod, Shimmer & Plate, Room, Spring) to demonstrate what this pedal is capable of for ambient sounds.

    The damp knobs are really cool to EQ your shimmer to your desired tone and it's really nice that the Mix knob can can 100% wet for drone sounds!

    Tell me in the comment section if you'd like a comparison video of the Strymon Blue Sky compared to the Big Sky!

  • Strymon Mobius Modulation - Linda Taylor - guitar demo

    7:26

    We had the pleasure of hanging out with guitarist and composer Linda Taylor from the hit television show Whose Line is it Anyway. Much like the panel of improvisors on the show who improvise characters and scenes on the spot, Linda is responsible for conjuring up a huge array of songs and musical numbers at a moments notice. In this video, Linda lets her creativity flow, laying down a wide variety of musical examples using Mobius.

    Learn more about Mobius:

    All guitar playing in the video was recorded through a single Royer R-121 ribbon microphone in front of Linda’s own Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb.

    Mobius provides twelve studio-class, fully tweakable modulation machines: Chorus, Flanger, Rotary, Vibe, Phaser, Filter, Formant, Vintage Trem, Pattern Trem, Autoswell, Destroyer, and Quadrature.

  • Strymon Timeline - Do You Really Need It?

    5:48

    The Strymon Timeline is an absolutely amazing pedal, but it isn't for everyone. This video should help you decide whether or not you need this pedal.

  • Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo

    6:47

    Buy Now:

    Welcome back to Proguitarshop.com, today we're going over the El Capistan dTape Echo from Strymon. This compact pedal is packed with 3 virtual tape echoes that shaped the music from the 50's onward and thanks to Strymon's dedication and technical know-how using dTape algorothms, they've faithfully recreated the sound, saturation and nuances of these beloved machines.
    Start with the tape head switch to select how the tape machine operates, either with a sliding tape head and fixed motor speed like the Echoplex or with a variable motor and multi-head setup like the Space Echo. Each types contains their own inherent characteristics and can go from a freshly calibrated studio echo to a grungy repeat full of natural sounding saturation, tape crinkles and bandwidth reduction. All these factors can be controlled by the knobs you see on the outside like Wow and Flutter and Tape Age along with secondary functions accessed by holding both footswitches (low contour, bias, tape crinkle and boost/cut). As a bonus, Strymon includes an accurate spring reverb that can be mixed into any mode. Modern features include stereo operation, tap tempo, a favorite preset switch or expression pedal control for any knob parameter. The El Capistan also gives you true bypass or trails, high quality A/D D/A audio converters and analog dry signal to maintain your guitar's natural tone.

    In this video we hear several Lex Rotary examples with single coil pickups.

    The complete rotary system.

    Lex provides you with a complete, accurately reproduced rotary system: the low-frequency bass rotor, the rotating treble horn, the tube-driven amplifier, finely tuned microphone placement, and all the complex sonic interactions between these elements.

    Utilizing a ridiculously powerful SHARC DSP, every drop of processing power is harnessed to authentically represent these details.

    ==================================================

    Extensive control.

    You get eight parameters to tweak, allowing extensive control over the tonality and mechanics of the rotating speaker system. You can manipulate each element, including rotor speed, horn level, acceleration time, microphone distance, tube drive and saturation, and volume level.

    Go from a maelstrom of dramatic, up-close, sweeping and swirling sounds, all the way to mellow, tranquil and calming undulations. All of this without a giant cabinet, microphone setup, and costly motor maintenance.

  • Strymon Flint - Tremolo & Reverb demo

    12:31

    Sound designer Pete Celi gives an in-depth demo Flint Tremolo & Reverb.

    For more information about Flint please visit:

    Be sure to check out the other Flint videos for audio examples and knob settings. Signal path: Flint » stereo into two Damage Control tube preamps » PC audio interface. Please view in HD for highest quality audio. :)

    =====================================

    The magical combination of tremolo and reverb is the earliest example of a perfect guitar effects marriage. First pioneered within historic amplifiers of the 1960s, this harmonious coexistence has made it's way onto countless records and performances—from early surf, swampy bayou blues, spaghetti westerns, film noir soundtracks, to modern day indie rock.

    Flint gives you the sonically complex '61 Harmonic Tremolo, the swampy and sultry '63 Power Tube Tremolo, and the sharp and balanced '65 Photocell Tremolo. You also get the classic '60s Spring Tank Reverb, the inventive '70s Electronic Plate Reverb, and the nostalgic '80s Hall Rack Reverb. Go from splashy, pulsing twang, to throbbing, swampy blues, all the way to ambient, trembling, and serene reverberated pads.

  • Strymon Riverside - Multistage Drive - In-Depth Demo

    16:32

    Strymon sound designer and DSP engineer Pete Celi takes you on an in-depth tour of Riverside's sounds and features. Pete talks about the JFET and DSP gain stages, the circuit tuning going on behind the scenes, and goes over the sonic capabilities in detail. Signal path: Guitar » Riverside » Amp » Shure SM57 microphone

    Learn more about Riverside:

    ==========================

    A new world of drive.

    Riverside is the culmination of a thorough analysis of numerous analog and vacuum tube circuits. Our goal? To deliver a new world of harmonically rich, incredibly versatile, tube-inspired drive sounds. We didn't want to build just another distortion or overdrive. We knew we must examine what has been done, and bring a new approach to the world of drive sounds.

    Discover your amp's potential.

    Riverside's cascading gain stages create harmonically rich tones that are immensely musical and natural—from silky clean overdrive to colossal distortion, and all points between. Our analog JFET front-end ensures that Riverside responds to your guitar with uncompromised dynamics and feel. The precision crafted DSP generates dynamic complexity and pleasing harmonics at every stage, letting your amp shine at any gain level. Riverside takes your amp to places you never knew it could go.

    Infinite sweet spot.

    Riverside's continuously variable circuit tuning dynamically tweaks multiple parameters under the hood so that the sweet spot follows you at any gain setting. As you turn the Drive knob, Riverside makes continuous adjustments, tuning the circuit for optimum tone. This results in an incredibly versatile drive pedal that is equally capable of providing sparking cleans, mild overdrives, high-gain leads, and heavy saturated distortions.

    Flexibility to adapt to any amp.

    Your amp choice has a large influence on the sound of any drive pedal connected to it. Riverside's musical 3-band EQ, with independent Bass, Middle and Treble knobs, is designed to complement your amp's tone with the flexibility needed to dial in your sound effectively and efficiently. The three-position Presence switch tailors the highest frequencies, allowing Riverside to integrate perfectly with any amp or setup, no matter how dark or bright.

    Digital or analog? We chose both.

    The first stage of Riverside’s custom multistage drive topology is an all-analog, ultra low noise, discrete, class-A JFET circuit. This gain stage is digitally controlled to maximize headroom while adding as much as 20dB of pure analog gain, with tight integration to the subsequent DSP gain stages. With our hybrid approach you get the best of both analog and digital worlds: The JFET stage provides exceptional touch sensitivity and dynamic interaction with your guitar, while the incredibly powerful SHARC DSP facilitates the great level of detailed complexity and responsiveness you'll want to hear.

  • Strymon blueSky Reverberator with Martin Acoustics

    7:01

    We've had many requests to see and hear our pedals along with acoustic guitars. So here you go! This video features our blueSky Reverberator ( along with two beautiful Martin acoustics, their OMC-28E and DC-18E. Performed by our friends Rogerio Peixoto and Matt Piper.

    =====================

    The philosophy behind our blueSky Reverberator is simple—take a ridiculously powerful SHARC DSP and dedicate it to doing one thing only: producing the most lush, majestic and stunning reverbs ever. Many hours and sleepless nights in the Strymon sound design labs were devoted to developing the complex reverb algorithms found inside blueSky. We squeezed every last drop of processing power available.

    Whether you’re a classic spring reverb fan or a studio rack aficionado, you’ll find your mojo here. blueSky provides three different reverb types, each with three modes, for a total of nine completely unique reverb experiences. blueSky even delivers an extremely versatile plate reverb, a rarity for a stompbox pedal. A full pre-delay and damping section provide deep reverb tone shaping. Add the mod and shimmer modes and you’re in store for unending reverb bliss. Couple that with 24-bit 96kHz converters and 115dB typical signal to noise, blueSky is equally at home on top of a studio console as it is in front of a tube amp.

    =====================

    Martin OMC-28E

    An Orchestra, acoustic-electric cutaway, the OMC-28E is crafted with solid Sitka spruce top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, black ebony fingerboard and bridge and a complementing black pickguard. Fishman® Aura® VT Enhance™ electronics make this the guitar that reminds you why you fell in love with us in the first place.

    =====================

    Martin DC-18E

    The warm tones of the genuine mahogany back and sides combined with a Sitka spruce top make this Dreadnought, acoustic-electric cutaway model truly sing. A solid black ebony fingerboard and bridge, tortoise color binding and matching pickguard adorn this model. Martin introduces the new, Fishman® Aura® VT Enhance™ electronics on this model. Aura® VT Enhance™ electronics uses the most advanced technology with discreet, soundhole-mounted controls for volume and tone preserving the pure and unique acoustic tone of each model. This is a classic Martin with contemporary playability, a modern take on the classic D-18 that was the instrument of choice for Hank Williams.

  • John Mayer Style Tone || Can a Strymon Iridium get close?

    As requested, I was asked about achieving a John Mayer kind of tone with the Iridium. You're probably going to want to use the Round setting, but also you're likely to want to pair up with a Tubescreamer of some sort. Here I try the Behringer Tube Overdrive (cheap end) and Keeley Tone Workstation (expensive end but I think designed for John specifically?).

    Inspired by my friend Rhett Shull's dream pedalboard I took his idea and made it my own. My board focuses on full midi control of all the pedals on the board but the ability to expand that to control the midi within my amps, and even a midi enabled amp switcher.

Now you can engage presets on Sunset, Riverside, and Volante simultaneously. Life too short for long YouTube videos? See the ’Interesting bits and go-to sections’ timings below.

    In this video we welcome perhaps the most anticipated pedal of 2019: the Strymon Volante. Strymon of course has enjoyed phenomenal success with its delay pedals to date, particularly the genre-defining TimeLine and much-loved El Capistan.
    The Volante adds a whole new voice to Strymon’s echo choir, namely the vintage, multi-head drum echo sound made famous by the Binson Echorec. It also does multi-head tape and studio tape delays too. Matters arising…
    • Does it sound like those old units? We have a couple for a quick comparison.
    • What about the best of the modern, pedal format versions of those effects? We pick two for comparison.
    • Should I replace my TimeLine or El Capistan?
    • And what else does it do?

    Please note: There have been many, many different kinds of tape and drum echoes over the years, and they pretty much all sound different, not least with the passage of time / different states of repair etc etc etc. With that in mind, we picked two such beasts that we had at our disposal, so please don’t be posting comments moaning about why we didn’t compare it with this, that or the other. Please.

    We hope you enjoy this episode…

  • I WAS WRONG - Strymon Timeline & Strymon El Capistan - Tape Delay Comparison

    10:16

    ►► Free Mini-Course on Ambient Guitar Chord Structures: ????

    We all make mistakes, and I did on my last demo.

    I didn't take the time to properly study the Strymon Timeline on tape mode and it resulted in a flawed, biased comparison between the two.

    In full honesty and transparency, I re-made the demo with now all the right info and settings.

    Turns out that the Timeline can get much closer to the El Capistan than I thought!

    What do you think? Do they sound close enough to you?

    We used two setups for this video. Here are the signal paths we used:
    * Deco » two Damage Control tube preamps (stereo)
    ** Deco » Tone King Imperial amp » Shure SM57 mic (mono)

    Give your sound the smooth and warm qualities of analog tape, along with the enhanced touch sensitivity and playing dynamics that are intrinsic to the inner workings of tape machines. Achieve incredible transparency at low levels, with reduced high frequency spikes and a harmonically rich low end. Turn up the Saturation to increase the amount of tape drive, dynamic compression and distortion.

    Deco is perfectly suited for a last-in-chain, always on sweetening effect. Everything sounds better on tape. Want to push the limits of tape beyond what was originally possible? Use Deco as a tape-style transparent overdrive—crank the Saturation all the way up to peg the meters and gently overload the machine's input.
