    Steven Wilson - Routine

    10:05

NEW ALBUM 'TO THE BONE' OUT NOW -

Amongst the hundreds of songs I have written over the years, 'Routine' has a very special place. It's a deeply sad story of loss and denial, but at its conclusion the clouds lift and there is acceptance at least. Having worked with her on 3 previous videos, I knew as soon as I wrote it that it was perfect for Jess to do something amazing with. Even then nothing prepared me for the organic beauty and power of the film she made, a painstaking labour of love that took her months to produce. When we play the song live I look out into the audience and see people swept away with emotion at the combination of music and animation. To find poetry and beauty in sadness is a wonderful thing I think - Steven Wilson

Steven Wilson - Song of Unborn

    6:21

    Song of Unborn
    Directed by Jess Cope

I took Carl Sagan”s quote, We are all made of star stuff” and based the film around that idea for Song of Unborn. Using abstract imagery and different styles of animation, the video represents the human form developing from the inside of its body instead of inside the womb. This is the first film that I have made with next to no narrative. I focused more on using the evolution of animation as a way to represent the evolving foetus in utero. The combination of space, sky, sea and fish just seemed to be the direction I wanted to take it. The paper cut out fish at the start represent sperm, the string rays are red blood cells through veins and the jellyfish are nerves. The whales represent the transition from gill-bearing aquatic fish that can only survive underwater to air breathing mammals that give birth to live young. It depicts the transition from a baby inside the mother's womb to the birth and its first breath.

I enjoyed exploring new animation techniques and I am pretty pleased with the way this video turned out, but after experiencing the process of working with CGI I would undoubtedly stick to traditional, old school, hand made, in camera effects. My favourite scene is the space scene. I created it on a multiplane and poked millions of tiny holes in a piece of black wrap that sat at the back of the set. The space dust was created with talcum power on different layers of glass and the planet/egg was made out of a gel ball that florists use. The fish were made out of card and painted with metallic paint to catch the natural light. By using a real camera zoom it gave the magical illusion of depth and space. - Jess Cope

Steven Wilson - People Who Eat Darkness

    6:03

Steven’s song, ‘People Who Eat Darkness’ addresses the subject of terrorism and the uncomfortable thought that you could quite literally be living next door to a terrorist and never know until it was too late. Originally when we chatted about the concept, I thought I would tackle the subject head-on and do something quite hard hitting. But whilst I was midway through writing a narrative in which my main protagonist was constructing a home-made explosive device, the Manchester arena bombing happened, and it stopped me in my tracks. The video was specifically for Steven’s show and I realised the perception of doing something so literal could backfire badly if a real attack took place somewhere while he was on tour. I still wanted to stick with the theme, but like all of my videos I aim to take a theme and twist it into something a little less “realistic and a bit more supernatural. So, terrorism turned into an alien invasion, something perhaps along the lines of ‘The Faculty’ meets ‘Rear Window’. During my research I decided that the two-tone Hitchcock poster-style artwork would look awesome for the look of the film. The whole thing was animated and coloured digitally, but to avoid it being totally computer generated, I insisted that the artwork be hand drawn by the brilliant illustrator, Adam Oehlers. Jess Cope, Director of 'People Who Eat Darkness'.

Steven Wilson - The Same Asylum As Before

    5:13

Lasse Hoile's brilliant video for The Same Asylum as Before has only been viewable as part of the live To the Bone concert experience until now, but with the tour finally coming to an end in a few weeks, the time has come to share it online, especially since it's been very popular and much requested. Lasse and the actors shot the video in sub-zero temperatures in Denmark in January 2018, so it sounds like it's a lot more fun to watch that it was to make. Enjoy!

    Steven Wilson - Refuge

    6:43

NEW ALBUM 'TO THE BONE' OUT NOW -

    Lyric video by Lasse Hoile.

Inspired by the plight of Syrian refugees, “Refuge” builds from the hushed beauty and pathos of the song section to an instrumental apex in which Paul Stacey’s guitar, Mark Feltham’s harmonica and Steven Wilson’s synth solo unite in epic glory, before dropping back down to a haunting aftermath. Refuge is a powerfully intense and cinematic highlight from the forthcoming album To the Bone.

    More Steven Wilson videos:

Cover Version, the album, collects all the material issued on the limited edition Cover Version singles series released between 2003-2010. The 12 tracks comprise six Steven Wilson originals and six covers and provide an essential insight into both Wilson's musical taste and his evolution as a solo artist.

In March 2003 Steven Wilson released Cover Version, a limited edition 2 track CD single. This was the first piece to be released under Wilson's own name (following an illustrious career as a member of Porcupine Tree and No-Man, and recording under various guises such as IEM and Bass Communion), and comprised completely solo performances, stripped back to acoustic guitar, piano and voice.

The single was made up of one cover version, along with one new, original composition. Replicating this format, over the next seven years, Wilson released a further five singles as part of the series.

Each of the CD singles were strictly limited. The final release (Cover Version VI) came in a special box housing all six CDs, with artwork designed by Carl Glover and a booklet of portraits of Steven by Hajo Mueller. Subsequently, an even more limited run of 7 singles were also pressed. Inevitably, as Wilson's popularity has grown - both through his work with Porcupine Tree and his hugely successful solo career - these long deleted releases have become much sought-after by collectors.

Cover Version, the album, re-packages this intriguing part of Wilson's career for a new generation of listeners.

Steven Wilson's cover of ABBA's 'The Day Before You Came' can be heard on the latest episode of the Kscope Podcast, listen below (for this and previous podcasts check out the podcast page):

Pressed on double heavyweight (180g) vinyl, the gatefold artwork has been 'remixed' from the box design by Carl Glover.

    The album tracklist is as follows;

    A
    Thank You
    The Day Before You Came
    A Forest

    B
    The Guitar Lesson
    Sign 'o' The Times

Rig Rundown - Steven Wilson 2019

    27:03

    #rigrundown #stevenwilson #porcupinetree

    Article & photos:

We did a pre-soundcheck hang with singer/songwriter/producer/guitarist Steven Wilson during his recent solo gig at Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom. Wilson, known best for his progressive rock with his band Porcupine Tree, stripped his tone down for his current solo project, which requires two rigs.

The raw sound of a Telecaster plugged straight into an amp has become a signature tone for Steven Wilson’s recent project. To capture that tone, Wilson used his Fender 1963 Relic Telecaster built by the Custom Shop. The Telecaster is strung with D'Addario NYXL Plain Steel .011–.014–.018 on top and D’Addario Nickel Wound .030w–.042w–.052w on the bottom.

The centerpiece of Steven Wilson’s pedalboard is a GigRig G2 Switching System, which makes sense since GigRig guru Daniel Steinhardt wired the board up (and made many of its pedal selections himself). Steven’s array of pedals includes a Boss FL-500 volume pedal, a Source Audio Programmable EQ, a GigRig A/B/Y box, a Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, a TC Electronic PolyTune, a custom GigRig bank selector, an Option 5 Destination Rotation, a Selah Quartz, a Strymon TimeLine and BigSky, two Electro-Harmonix POGs, a Diamond Analog Vibrato, a Moog MF Trem, an Analog Man Price of Tone, an Amptweaker TightRock Jr., an Origin Effects Cali76, an EHX Small Stone, and a wealth of GigRig power accessories.

Steven Wilson - The Future Bites Tour Trailer

ARENA SHOWS ACROSS EUROPE AND UK
    SEPTEMBER 2020

“Every time I make a new album, it's hugely important for me that it holds a unique place in my catalogue and won't simply be more of the same. Moving into the third decade of the 21st century and my second decade as a touring solo artist, it felt like time to apply the same philosophy to the live experience. I want to challenge myself to create something that confronts my own notions (and hopefully the audience's too) of how to present my music in a concert situation. This has become The Future Bites - a series of special events at larger venues, something on a grander and more immersive scale. I'm already hugely excited about them!” - SW

New 2 disc set from Steven Wilson featuring unreleased tracks, videos, live recordings and high-resolution audio -- available on Blu-ray & CD and CD & DVD

    Available from October 21st (22nd in US/CA)

In February 2013 Steven Wilson released 'The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)', his third solo album. The album was a huge critical and commercial success, earning numerous 5 star reviews and charting well across the world, debuting at #3 in the German national chart, #28 in the UK top 40, #57 in the US Billboard top 200, #16 in Holland and #17 in Finland.

Prior to these dates, Drive Home, a new audio-visual package will be released as a Blu-ray & CD set and as a CD & DVD set.

The Blu-ray and DVD feature the new video for lead track 'Drive Home' along with the video for 'The Raven That Refused To Sing', both directed by Jess Cope. They also include four tracks recorded live in Frankfurt during the recent tour.

In addition, the Blu-ray and DVD feature audio recordings of two previously unreleased tracks, 'The Birthday Party' and an orchestral version of 'The Raven That Refused To Sing'. 'The Birthday Party' was recorded in LA at the same sessions as the tracks that made up the album while the version of 'The Raven That Refused To Sing' is a new mix that strips the track back to just the orchestra and vocals.

All the songs on the Blu-Ray and DVD are mixed in both stereo and 5.1 sound, including the two audio only titles. The audio on the Blu-Ray is full lossless 96/24 throughout. These tracks are also included on the CD, along with the audio from the live tracks and an edit of 'Drive Home'.

    HOME INVASION, OUT NOW! -

Steven Wilson, described by The Telegraph as ‘the most successful British musician most people have never heard of’ embarked on his hugely ambitious sold-out To The Bone world tour in 2018. Lyrics
    _______________________
A light snow is falling on London
All sign of the living has gone
The last train pulls into the station
And no one gets off and no one gets on
    Don't hate me
    I'm not special like you
I'm tired and I'm so alone
One light burns in a window
It guides all the shadows below
Inside the ghost of a parting
And no one is left, just the cigarette smoke
    Don't hate me
    I'm not special like you
I'm tired and I'm so alone
    Don't fight me
    I know you'll never care
Can I call you on the telephone, now and then?
    Don't hate me
    I'm not special like you
I'm tired and I'm so alone
    Don't fight me
    I know you'll never care
Can I call you on the telephone, now and then?
