Alex or Aleck Miller (né Ford, possibly December 5, 1912[3] – May 24, 1965), known later in his career as Sonny Boy Williamson, was an American blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter. He was an early and influential blues harp stylist who recorded successfully in the 1950s and 1960s. Miller used various names, including Rice Miller and Little Boy Blue, before calling himself Sonny Boy Williamson, which was also the name of a popular Chicago blues singer and harmonica player. To distinguish the two, Miller has been referred to as Sonny Boy Williamson II. He first recorded with Elmore James on Dust My Broom. Some of his popular songs include Don't Start Me Talkin', Help Me, Checkin' Up on My Baby, and Bring It On Home. He toured Europe with the American Folk Blues Festival and recorded with English rock musicians, including the Yardbirds, the Animals, and Jimmy Page. Help Me became a blues standard, and many blues and rock artists have recorded his songs.

Sim, não é que uma pena, as pessoas não é uma vergonha chorando
Não é que uma pena, eu declaro que é uma vergonha chorando
Ela espera até que tem nove abaixo de zero, e me colocar para baixo para um outro homem

Eu dar-lhe todo o meu dinheiro, todo meu amor e tudo
Todo o meu dinheiro, todo meu amor e tudo

Sonny Boy Williamson- Bye Bye Bird 1963

    2:51

Can someone please explain to us why Sonny Boy Williamson is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? (crickets chirping, frogs ribbiting). Exactly. He influenced all the young rock groups of the 60s, from the Allman Brothers to Led Zeppelin. This clip is proof enough that this man embodied all of the greatest characteristics of the blues--from gut-wrenching soul to raw, badass musicianship. Check him playing that harmonica with no hands at the end. Too cool for words. Our archive houses many iconic blues performances from Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, T-Bone Walker and Buddy Guy. Our American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1969 DVD series was nominated for a GRAMMY in 2003.

Sonny Boy Williamson II - Trying to make London my Home - V2

    1:30:37

This video honors the 50th Anniversary of Sonny Boy Williamson participating in the American Folk Blues Festival European Tour 1963 / 1964 and at the same time the men behind the tour,

    - Joachim Ernst Behrendt from SWR Radio / TV, who had the idea;
    - Horst Lippmann from Lippman & Rau, who organized;
    - Willie Dixon, the Godfather of Blues, who had the connections.

Willie Dixon, who worked for Chess records, knew nearly every blues musician in the US and named the best to Horst Lippmann, who invited them to travel to Europe for this tour. They all came! Howlin´ Wolf; John Lee Hooker; Memphis Slim and many, many others of the finest. The tour made Blues much earlier popular in Europe than in the United States.

You find here a compilation of all video-material about SBWII available from this tour, from German, British, Swedish and Danish TV-Shows of that time. Willie Dixon plays bass on several songs.

A tribute to some of the most important blues men (and 2 women) ever !

The songs (all with live performance on video except No. 1):

    - I´m Tryin´ To Make London My Home
    - Bye bye Bird (several versions)
    - In My Younger Days
    - Keep It To Yourself
    - Gettin´ Out Of Town
    - Nine Below Zero
    - Got My Mojo Workin´ (Muddy Waters) - SBWII on harmonica
    - Black Snake Blues (Victoria Spivey) - SBWII on harmonica
    - Careless Love (Mae Mercer) - SBWII on harmonica
    - My One Room Little Cabin
    - I´m A Lonely Man
    - Your Funeral - My Trial
    - What Will Happen When I´m Gone
    - You´re My Baby
    - Goin´ Home / It´s Only A TV Show (likely an ad hoc performance)
    - Bye Bye Baby, Good Bye (Allstars)

This is version 2 of the video. I have added a yarn by Robbie Robertson, who met SBWII shortly before his death. Listen to Robbie and you will understand why SBWII wanted to Make London His Home.

Sonny Boy Williamson II : Sky Is Crying / Movin Out

    7:20

When Rice Miller, aka Sonny Boy Williamson, made these intimate, casual recordings in 1963, he was already (probably) 66 years old. Most of his long career was over; only two years later he would die in his little apartment in Helena, Arkansas. He was recognized as a giant throughout the blues world, as a harmonica player, vocalist, songwriter, prolific recording artist, live performer, and wildly colorful personality. Starting in 1951 and continuing into the '60s, Sonny Boy made some of the most influential blues records of all time - Help Me, Eyesight To The Blind, Nine Below Zero, Mighty Long Time, One Way Out, Don't Start Me Talking, Keep It To Yourself, Bring It On Home, and dozens more. But he had never recorded before like he did on this one night in Copenhagen, in a totally acoustic setting, sometimes with just his voice and harmonica, sometimes with Matt 'Guitar' Murphy backing him, sometimes joined by his old friend Memphis Slim on piano. These recordings (issued as Keep It To Ourselves on the Alligator label) capture a personal, improvisational side of Sonny Boy's music that has been rarely heard on record. ~Bruce Iglauer
