While in Sydney, Steve, Mac and Ronnie appeared as Contestants in Graham Webb's TV Dating game Blind Date. Recorded in Sydney at the former Channel 10 Studios in Lane Cove. The 'Date' was Model Valli Kemp, who went on to marry Entertainment Promoter Gary Van Egmont. Ronnie 'won' the 'Date' which was Dinner and a Show at the Chevron Hilton's Silver Spade Room, which was Opposite the Sheraton Wentworth Hotel that the Band were staying in. I spent an afternoon with the Small Faces and met all of the Who, Paul Jones and Andrew Loog Oldham. It was an Amazing time for a me, a17 year old Fan.

Small Faces were an English rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966. The band was one of the most acclaimed and influential mod groups of the 1960s, recording hit songs such as Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday, All or Nothing, and Tin Soldier, as well as their concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. They later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic bands until 1969.

  • The Small Faces-All Or Nothing.

    3:15

The Small Faces-'All Or Nothing' recorded live for the 'Beat Beat Beat' show on the 20/10/1966. What can you say about Steve Marriott,he was one of the best voices in the business, and fantastic front man. Maybe some of today's talent shows should watch some of these old video's, to see how it's really done,'Plug in and Play' raw energy, there is no electronic pitch correctors, this is a real singer with a real rock voice. God bless Steve Marriott.
Just a bit of trivia, look at Kenny Jones ride cymbal, you will see a bunch of keys, attached to an elastic band, this is to give the ride a 'Sizzle' very sixties, of course you can get proper 'sizzles', a cymbal with holes drilled, and rivets fitted in loosely, causing the rivets to vibrate, an example of this can be heard on McCartney's 'Blue-Bird', from 'Band on the Run'. I think he used paper clips and elastic bands to get the same effect. Jazz drummers also favour these kind of ride cymbals.

  • The Small Faces / Faces Explosive Stay With Me Induction Performance

    5:59

Hall of Fame Inductee Ian McLagan was among the most prominent unifying threads that linked the Small Faces – a band of mod rockers who embraced soul and psychedelia in the 60s – to the Faces, a rollicking band of roots rockers who took the 70s by storm. A wickedly talented musician, McLagan's percussive playing, nuanced accompaniment and versatility behind the keys made him integral to shaping the Small Faces/Faces sound across two decades, and his influence continued long after the Faces disbanded in 1975.

On April 12, 2012, while in Cleveland for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Ian McLagan was joined on stage by formers Small Faces/Faces bandmates including guitarist Ronnie Wood and drummer Kenny Jones, while Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall stepped up on lead vocals, filling in for the late Steve Marriott and an ill Rod Stewart. The group ripped through three classics from the Small Faces/Faces oeuvre: All or Nothing, Ooh La La and Stay With Me.

From 1972's A Nod is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse, the album version of Stay With Me erupts in an uptempo intro that gives way to a steady groove marked by Ian McLagan's distorted electric piano part, Ronnie Wood's powerful slide guitar playing, Kenny Jones' deliberate drumming and the late Ronnie Lane's typically deft bass lines. The dirty tone of the group's chief players and Rod Stewart's well-worn vocals give a debauched tale (Yeah, I'll pay your cab fare home / you can even use my best cologne / just don't be here in the morning when I wake up) the grit it needs to be compelling, wrapping it with a lively energy that's unadulterated entertainment.

Watch as decades later, at the 2012 Induction Ceremony, McLagan and his bandmates showcase the brilliant rock and roll bombast that made Stay With Me a Top 20 hit and an enduring rock song.

This Actual recording is from my first pressed copy of the mono vinyl, which I purchased on it's release date, in 1966.What a voice Steve Marriott has at such a young age, this was before Robert Plant, sang similar on 'Whole Lotta Love'. Steve Marriott, is a great loss to rock music, and his music will always shine.

  • Rod Stewart & Faces - Final Concert in 1974 at Londons Kilburn State Theatre HQ

    1:3:51

This is the final rollicking concert of the legendary Faces featuring a high powered performance from Keith Richards, Rod Stewart himself shakin' his booty like there's no tomorrow, and a string section for a little class. Although Rod went on to bigger success, many say his association with Faces was the musical highpoint of his career and this concert is the cinematic proof. Stewart and his Faces group were joined on-stage by Rolling Stones stalwart Keith Richard. For the record, Faces consisted of Ron Wood (guitar) Ian McLaglan (keyboard), future Who member Kenny Jones (drums) and Tetsu Yamauchi (replacing Ronnie Lane on bass).

Small Faces - Happy Days Toytown

Life is just a bowl of All-Bran
You wake up every morning and it's there
So live as only you can
It's all about enjoy it 'cos ever since you saw it
There aint no one can take it away.

So life is just a bowl of All-Bran - very true!
What you say has made it very clear
To be sure I'll live as best as I can
But how can I remember to keep it all together
When half the moon is taken away?

Well, I've got the very thing
If you can laugh and sing
Give me those happy days toytown newspaper smiles
Clap twice, lean back, twist for a while
When you're untogether and feeling out of tune
Sing this special song with me, don't worry 'bout the moon
    Looks after itself

[Steve:] Can I have a go?
    [Ron:] Yes
    [Steve:] Yeah?
    [Ron:] Sing now:

Give me those happy days toytown newspaper smile
Clap twice, lean back, twist for a while
Well now you've got the hang of it
There's nothing you can't do with it
If you're very tuned to it you can't go wrong.

    All together!

Give me those happy days toytown newspaper smile
Clap twice, lean back, twist for a while
Well now we've got the hang of it
There's nothing we can't do with it
And now we're very into it we can't go wrong!

    [Stanley Unwin's nonsense here]

Give me those happy days toytown newspaper smile
Clap twice, lean back, twist for a while
Well now we've got the hang of it
There's nothing we can't do with it
And now we're very into it we can't go wrong!

    2:29

Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake is a well known instrumental by British R&B band The Small Faces. It was the first and title track to the 1968 concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. The album became a number one hit in the UK and would stay there for a total of six weeks.

The title and the design of the distinctive packaging was a parody of Ogdens' Nut-brown Flake, a brand of tobacco which was produced in Liverpool from 1899.

The album is considered by many to be a masterpiece and is often said to have a very British feel to it. Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake was included in the 2005 Essential Collection as track 18 disc 1.

  • Small Faces - Im Only Dreaming Correct lip synch to original vinyl record version

    2:23

My corrected version of the video. This uses my 7 mono copy of the record, which would have been the same as the version they were miming to on this footage and not the stereo CD version that is currently available and has recently been overlaid to this footage. The CD versions have extra vocal from Steve Marriott, which in the clip you can see, he doesn't sing. So this is more in keeping with the moment. Enjoy.

    2:48

    Over Bridges of Sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
    Under Dreaming Spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been
    (Chorus 1)
What did you do there? - I got high
What did you feel there? - Well I cried
But why the tears there? - I'll tell you why - yyyyy
It's all too beautiful, It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful, It's all too beautiful
    (Bridge)
I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun
I'll tell you what I'll do - What will you do?
I'd like to go there now with you
You can miss out school - Won't that be cool
Why go to learn the words of fools?
    (Chorus 2)
What will we do there? - We'll get high
What will we touch there? - We'll touch the sky
But why the tears there? I'll tell you why
It's all too beautiful, It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful, It's all too beautiful
I feel inclined to blow my mind
