  • Röyksopp - Something In My Heart

    5:31

'Running To The Sea' and 'Something In My Heart' are in essence both expressions of compulsion and its strong, often uncontrollable, persisting pull. Dependence is a returning theme in our music
    -B+B

'Running To The Sea' features stunning vocals by the platinum-selling Norwegian artist Susanne Sundfør, and this epic, sweeping track glistens with moving beauty.

The equally elegant singing on b-side 'Something In My Heart' - a melancholy, synth hybrid - is provided by Jamie of cult orchestral pop ensemble The Irrepressibles.

  • Röyksopp - Sordid Affair

    6:21

A recollection and contemplation of the emotional aspects of the endeavours as described in the track title. The difficulties of letting go of emotional attachments – even those of a questionable nature... B+B

Sordid Affair is taken from The Inevitable End, the new album by Röyksopp. More information and links to listen and buy here:

More from The Inevitable End here:

Sordid Affair features vocals by Ryan from Man Without Country:

    ------

    Lyrics

    There was a time…
    Dark and devine…
    Exciting and new.
    shameful and true…
    Free to explore,
    we had it all:
    Towering trust,
    insatiable lust…

    Clouding the truth,
    both of us knew:
    this sordid affair
    is ending in tears…

    Yes, we would go on,
    knowing the wrong.
    Until the day,
    it was taken away…

    Oh, all our love
    fell down
    to earth…
    Here, broken and cold…
    With grave remorse…

    But for a while
    it all made sense…
It might have been just a dark pretence,
    but you had me…
    And I loved it…
    To be with you,
    to be the one,
    to live a lie,
it really got me all excited…
    I felt wanted…

    Then in the night,
    the sorrow inside,
    was taken away,
    deliverance came…

    Fell from the sky,
    heaven replied…
    Salvation in streams,
    silent and clean…

    All that we were,
    all that we knew,
    faded away,
    with tears in the rain…

    yes, all that we were,
    all that we knew
    is fading away,
    like tears in the rain…

    All that we were,
    all that we knew…
    …fading away…

    All that we were,
    all that we knew…
    …fading away…

    Remind Me
    Artist: Royksopp
    Album: Melody A.M (2001)

    Lyrics

    It's only been a week
the rush of being home and rapid fading
    Failing to recall
when I was busy all that time in England

    Has sent me aimlessly
on foot or by the help of transportation
    to knock on windows where
a friend no longer live, I had forgotten

    and everywhere I go
there's always something to remind me
    of another place and time
of a love that travelled far and found me

    We stayed outside till two
waiting for the light to come back
    we didn't talk I knew
until you asked what I was thinking
until you asked what I was thinking

    brave men tell the truth
the wise man's tools are analogies and puzzles
    a woman holds her tongue
knowing silence will speak for her

    brave men tell the truth
the wise man's tools are analogies and puzzles
    a woman holds her tongue
knowing silence will speak for her

    and everywhere I go
there's always something to remind me
    of another place and time
of a love that travelled far and found me

Oblique Thrills is a slight departure from the normal Röyksopp-catalogue. The track came about in February earlier this year. Whilst recording parts for a completely different song, we learned that the great Lyle Mays had passed. Consequently, we decided to embark on a fusion-esque venture as a nod to Mr. Mays, but in a Röyksopp manner. Our good friends Ole Vegard Skauge (bass), Jørn Øien (piano & Prophet) & Ivar Thormodsæter (acoustic drums) also took part in the journey.

The Irrepressibles is a ten-member orchestral ensemble led by composer and musician Jamie McDermott, described by The Sunday Times as an enchantingly theatrical pop extravaganza. As a group, they have been compared to, and cited influences from, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Antony & The Johnsons and Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

    -------------

For a long time we've been considering an artist collaboration with Susanne Sundfør, and the final anniversary show of NRK Lydverket turned out to be the ideal time and place.

Initially, we thought about performing a pure cover version, but the chemistry and vibes between the three of us was out of the ordinary, which led us to put together a new track from scratch. The song Running To The Sea was written and recorded in two days, just in time for the TV-performance.

Susanne possesses a unique combination of distinctiveness and international talent, unique far beyond the borders of Norway. In addition, she has insightful knowledge on cooking inside a pit dug out of the ground.

Susanne delivered gold on her first vocal take. We still asked her to do another 58 though. These were never used, however, having these unused vocal takes available created an atmosphere of luxury in the studio.

    Lyrics
    Thank you,
    Forever,
    For the things you've done...
    Nothing
    Could be better,
    Than to say it...
    Thank you,
    Forever,
    For the things we are...
    Nothing
    Is so easy
    As they say it is...
    So, thank you
    My brother
    For the things you've done...
    Knowing
    You'll never walk away
    Like I did,
    You know...
    Thank you,
    Forever,
    For the things we are...
    None
    Can see inside of me
    Like you do...
    Thank you,
    For the hours
    In the orange sky.
    Brother,
    You will always be
    A part of me...
    And thank you
    For the courage,
    When I go too far...
    Knowing
    You'll never walk away,
    Like I did...
    You know...
    Thank you,
    Forever,
    For the things we are...
    No one
    Can see inside of me
    Like you do...
    So thank you,
    For the hours

I was home again. I had a semi-okay voice today. So, I created this arrangement and recorded it.

Please excuse the awkward faces. I had to look at the lyrics and didn't want to mess up, so concentration was KEY.

I used a different vase this time to rest my camera on. It's a little more stable than the green one.

The speck of dust inside my camera was especially prevalent today.

My hair is a bit tousled from sleeping on it last night.
