  • Roy Clark Ghost Riders in the Sky ~ smoking on fire hot!!!

    3:27

From BringBackMyYesterday: Roy Clark is Live in Branson here in the 1990s! With funny intro, too. Turn UP the volume & enjoy! ABOUT ROY'S GUITAR: It's the deluxe version of the Breadwinner called the Deacon. Clear gloss finish on mahogany, Mother of Pearl inlay, fret board edge banding and one of the first production guitars with an on-board active pre-amp. Ovation built these between '73 and '84. --Info kindly shared by WhiteLantern in the Comments below.

  • Roy Clark A Good Ol Boy Plays A Mean Guitar ~ Live

    3:42

From the BringBackMyYesterday YouTube channel...Johnny Cash introduces Roy Clark as a good ol' boy. Then this good ol' boy plays a mean guitar! The excerpt you are watching is from a 1976 television show, Johnny Cash & Friends. No copyright infringement intended. Thank you for watching my channel. ~DeeZ~ P.S. I believe Roy is playing Twelfth Street Rag, a ragtime musical composition published by Euday L. Bowman in 1914. From Wikipedia: The 12th Street Rag is one of the most famous and bestselling rags of the ragtime era. It was more than 15 years after Bowman composed the song before he actually wrote the music down in manuscript form. He returned to Texas briefly and tried to sell the piece to a company in Dallas. He only had an offer of ten dollars and was told it really wasn't worth publishing. Returning to Kansas City, he sold it to Jenkins Music Company in 1913. The Jenkins company felt Bowman's arrangement was too difficult, however, and hired C. E. Wheeler to simplify it. With a big advertising push, 12th Street Rag began to sell better. In 1919, James S. Sumner added lyrics. The song was popular with early Kansas City bands and became a huge hit after Bennie Moten recorded it for RCA Victor in 1927, the same year that Louis Armstrong and His Hot Seven recorded it. This piece has since become an enduring jazz standard.

  • Jimmy Henley - Orange Blossom Special

    4:32

Jimmy Henley shocked his dad and everybody else when he began playing the banjo at the age of 7. It was probably his winning the World Bluegrass Banjo Championship in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 10 that caught Roy Clark's attention, resulting in Roy employing Jimmy for more than 25 years. This is one of Jimmy's appearances on Hee Haw in which Roy pretends being threatened by Jimmy's skill. The black band that appears at 1 minute 44 seconds is to cover a broadcast message that would be way more annoying than the band.

  • Country Legend Roy Clark Dead at 85 - Our Tribute

    3:33

Country Superstar Roy Clark Dead at 85
I was a rocker in the seventies but I loved Roy Clark. Just watching him on Hee Haw he came off as someones favorite uncle – that guy you could talk to. His talent was immense Clark was a world class guitar player, an amazing singer who had
In all Clark released almost 40 studio albums, not including 9 live albums and 68 singles. His country hits included Through the Eyes of a Fool the following year and When the Wind Blows in Chicago in 1965. His top 10 country hits included The Tips of My Fingers from 1963, Yesterday When I Was Young in 1969, 1970's I Never Picked Cotton and Thank God and Greyhound, two years later he had The Lawrence Welk - Hee Haw Counter-Revolution Polka then his only #1 Come Live with Me in 1973 that same year he peaked at #2 with Somewhere Between Love and Tomorrow, a few months later he reached #4 with Honeymoon Feelin' and in 1976 If I Had It to Do All Over Again
He was a mulch-instrumentalist who could put down his guitar and tackle banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica among other instruments.
He was also famous as the host of Hee Haw for its entire 24-year run with Buck Owens sometimes co-hosting with him. In 2004 when the series was released on VHS and DVD he said 'Hee Haw' won't go away. It brings a smile to too many faces.” Owens who left Hee Haw in 1986, had a different take on the show calling it cartoon donkey.” He said he did it for that big paycheck. Clark on the other hand said the show was like a family reunion adding, We became a part of the family. The viewers were sort of part owners of the show. They identified with these clowns, and we had good music. He was also a guest host on the Tonight show in the 60's and 70's.
Clark was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009. He was also one of the first artist to open his own theater in Branson, Missouri.
Clark was born in Virginia and got his first guitar at Christmas when he was 15 within a year he was playing in his father band.
Publicist Jeremy Westby said Clark died Thursday due to complications from pneumonia at home in Tulsa, Okla. - by John Beaudin
