    Oh Morpheus, you're awesome ... don't change a thing! :)

Stupidity aside Morpheus is killer. A really impressive bit of kit that I honestly feel could offer something for everyone depending on what you're looking to do. There's so many potential applications with input sources a such a wide range of filters and their 3 controls. The on board sequencer can be vast and equally powerful.

Here's the noise video I've mentioned at several points showing more filter modes shaping noise. As noise (white noise at least) by nature is broadband it shows off the filters well.

  • Rossum Electro-Music - Assimil8or *Drums & Linear FM*

    8:37

Here we have some one shot drum sounds I created for the default sound banks that come with Assimil8or and in this video we look at making a beat as well as adding linear FM to the one shot sounds (sounds fantastic) as well as modulating panning to create a shifting modulate drum beat using the stereo mixed output.

In my first video with the Assimil8or we looked at speeding up a spoken word to create a short synth like tone from a short loop and then using the wide ranging pitch control and bit crushing to make new synth tones and riffs. Check that out here -

  • Rossum Electro-Music Trident // Triple VCO with UNIQUE Analog Tones & Modulation

    28:03

**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** Here we have the Rossum Electro-Music Trident. A Multi-Synchronic Oscillator Ensemble which is a trio of analog / analogue oscillators with some unique waveshaping features. Each VCO can be used independently but it comes to life when you make use of the ZING modulation. Zing Modulation is similar to Ring Modulation however the use of hard sync which is switchable between the oscillators results in much more musical locked harmonics. It's hands down pretty amazing! Especially when coupled with two modulation oscillators, symmetry control, phase modulation and loads more. Skip around as you see fit with the timing index and if you've ready this far leave a comment with ace cakes at the end. No idea why, just some fun.

  • Rossum Electro-Music 35th Anniversary SP-1200 Renovation

    1:02

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the introduction of E-mu System’s iconic “SP” sampling percussion system, instruments that have become emblematic of the golden age of hip hop creativity. To mark this milestone, Dave Rossum (the co-founder of E-mu Systems) and the team at Rossum Electro-Music are creating an extremely limited number of “renovated” SP-1200s.

Beginning with an original SP-1200, Dave and the team strip it down and rebuild it into a “better-than-new” example of the classic sampling percussion system. It is then tested and calibrated to guarantee that it
provides the exact sonic character that has made the SP drum machines musical legends for 35 years (and counting).

  • Rossum Electro-Music - Assimil8or *Yorkshire House Mafia Patch*

    4:20

The little joke in the video stems from Swedish House Mafia and their track 'One'. This was a big club hit that sped up a looping bass drum sample into an audio rate tone and then the main riff was made from that. That's what I'm doing here with a looping sample chopped up into increasingly short loops to form a steady tone then using the pitch manipulation (which is wide ranging and amazing quality!) to create perfectly 1v/oct tracking new synth tones, really cool. The joke about Pharrell needing to sing on it so the radio will play the track (it's just a video demo patch, no real 'tracks') is down to the track 'One' having Pharrell added to a version of the track and then radio playing the track everywhere, all day for a long time. I thought I best explain that as I know some of you won't be interested in or follow much from the pop world. Just having some fun with the patch, it's a great way to create new tones. Next video will be looking at one shot drum sounds and the linear FM.

Since getting my head around and playing around with the Control Forge from Rossum Electro-Music I've been having loads of fun with Satellite. It's a standalone expressive/complex modulation source that jumps between multiple modulation ideas and disciplines. Is it a sequencer? Is it an envelope? I'd say it's both! An 8 stage curve sequence perhaps, or random source, or multi stage envelope, or quantised pitch sequencer. It'll do all sorts. So here's a few patches to show off some of what it can do. Check out the links to Control Forge content below for a larger idea of what this does and watch out for more content from these modules from me soon.

  • Rossum Panharmonium 1/2: explained

    14:55

The Rossum Electro-Music Panharmonium Mutating Spectral Resynthesizer is a very unusual signal processing module: It studies the incoming signal, breaks it down into its most dominate frequency components, and assigns those to a bank of up to 33 oscillators to re-create (re-synthesize). You can choose which band(s) of frequencies to analyze and how often that analysis happens, and on the output side transpose it, blur it, decide what core waveform us used for the resynthesis, and perform other “mutating” functions including feedback looping.

This first movie gives an overview of how Panharmonium works. It does not dive into every individual feature (there’s a great manual that already does that); this is intended to give you an understanding of how it works, and to quickly get you up to speed using it:

    00:00 examples
    01:08 overview
    01:53 audio ins & outs
    02:27 starting configuration
    03:17 the sound sources
    03:36 Analyzer: Slice & Multiply
    04:12 Modifiers: Voices
    04:49 Modifiers: Blur & Gide
06:35 Analyzer: Center Frequency & Bandwidth

    09:08 Modifiers: Feedback
    11:04 Spectral Warping
    12:36 Modifiers: Waveform
    14:14 teaser for rhythmic applications

The second movie in this set dives into a particular interest of mine: rhythmic use of the Panharmonium. It can be seen at

  • Rossum Electro-Music - Morpheus *Drone*

    2:33

Here's my first patch with the awesome Morpheus stereo 3D multi mega filter bonanza! This band aid filter features broadband shaping and transforming and it's modulated by a combination of the Steady State Fate Ultra-Random Analog and WMD PDO as a phase modulated LFO.

The sound source was a large patch included the Morpheus in various modes and under modulation captured into Mutable Instruments Clouds buffer and saved. This core sound then mixes with the AJH Synth MiniMod VCOs mixed and Ring Modded with added Subs into the Ring SM from AJH before going into the Sonic XV (again AJH) filter for extra wave shaping and low pass filtering. The AJH patch is on the dry side of Clouds and the frozen buffer on the wet side. This then goes into Morpheus before going into the TipTop Audio Z-DSP with the Halls Of Valhalla set at just under 50%. So a lot of the space and long sound is purely Clouds and Morpheus working together.

  • Electric Guitar/Modularsynths Jam Rossum Panharmonium by Tada/BPNYC

    24:01

    Electric Guitar thru
Rossum Electro-Music “Panharmonium - Spectral Processor and Tone Generator” …

    Hello everyone!
I wish you a happy and energetic beginning of 2020!!!

We have another improvised jam today using an electric guitar & modularsynthesizer…
I’ve just received Rossum Electro-Music “Panharmonium - Spectral Processor and Tone Generator” recently…
and very excited to explore this amazing module.
I have been wanted to plug electric guitar into this module and come up with untraditional guitar sound.
This module is great for many other things and functions but today we are just focusing on creating simple synth guitar sound here.
As I mentioned before with other videos, my intension is to do a electric guitar thru modular synthesizer format. Not using any effect pedals/guitar amps/guitar cabinets. I am not necessary trying to do a traditional electric guitar thing here but approaching electric guitar from different angle. Some of it is actually challenging to get a good vintage guitar sound without using vintage gear. If someone ask me, “what kind of amps and pedals are you using?” that will be awesome…

In this video, you will hear,
1.sort of regular lightly overdriven guitar sound,
    2.synthesizer like guitar sound
    3.mix of both sounds

    Guitar is going thru(in order):
Befaco - Instrument interface (to plug guitar in)
Snazzy FX - High Gain (to make guitar little dirty)
Rossum Electro - Panharmonium (for Synthesizer Guitar sound/balancing driven & synths guitar sound)
moddict - EQ4 (EQing guitar sound)
    Mordax - DATA (as tuner)
WMD - AXYS (A/B ing between Guitar and Loquelic Iteritas)
    Make Noise - Morphagene (leveling)
Make Noise - Mimeophon (Stereo Delay)
Erica Synths - Drum Stereo Mixer (Stereo Mixer)
    2hp - VCA (amplifying)
    2hp - Verb (reverb)
WMD - Pro Output (output of whole thing)

Off course, all the background music is by rest of the modules you see here~
    Everything is live(no fixing/over dubbing)!

    I hope you enjoy!!!

    みなさん、こんにちは!
    2020年の楽しくエネルギッシュな始まりを願っております!!!

    エレクトリックギターとモジュラーシンセサイザーを使用した即興ジャム…
Rossum Electro-Music「Panharmonium-Spectral Processor and Tone Generator」

    Befaco - Instrument interface(ギターを接続するため)
    Snazzy FX - High Gain(ギターを軽く歪ませるため)
    Rossum Electro - Panharmonium(シンセサイザーギターサウンド/歪みとシンセギターサウンドのバランス)
    moddict/TDCyou - EQ4(ギターサウンドのEQ)
    Mordax - DATA(チューナーとして)
    WMD - AXYS(ギターシグナルとLoquelic IteritasのA/B)
    Make Noise - Morphagene(レベリング)
    Make Noise - Mimeophon(ステレオディレイ)
Erica Synths - Drum Stereo Mixer(ステレオミキサー)
    2hp - VCA(増幅)
    2hp - Verb(リバーブ)
    WMD - Pro Output(最終の出力)

    当然、バックグラウンドミュージックは残りのモジュールので作ったものです〜
    もちろん一発どり(修正/ダビングはしないポリシーです)!

    それでは、ぜひお楽しみください!!!

  • Rossum Electro-Music Trident *FIRST PATCH*

    4:59

This was a real highlight of the NAMM 2019 footage (I wasn't there personally) and just the thought of a triple oscillator from Dave Rossum (previously of E-Mu, now Rossum Electro-Music) is enough to be excited about. Trident brings in zing modulation which is ring modulation with in sync (that's the key for musical / harmonious tones and less so clangorous ones) oscillators, symmetry and phase modulation options and plenty of control and CV inputs to really animate things. So this was the first patch I made when it when into the case and I just wanted to share that right away to show off some of the raw tones and some patches ideas with dual layer LPG control and a little pepper of FX in the background. Full demo coming around the release.

  • Rossum Electro Music Assimil8or Multi-Timbral Phase Modulation Sampler 2.0 Software: Channel Explode

    53

Assimil8or Software v2.00 has been released. Check the Downloads tab at the link above for details.

    2.00 New Features Guide:

    Channel Operations Menu

When on the Channels page, double-click the DATA1 encoder to bring up a popup menu containing channel operations:

    Cancel: Pretty self-evident

Explode (2-8): Automatically duplicates the current channel’s sample into the selected number of channels and sets the sample and loop start and end points to successive even fractions of the entire sample. So, in effect, divides the sample into “x” equal hunks and automatically assigns them to successive channels. Great for splitting precisely edited loops into individual beats or phrases and accessing them on a channel by channel basis. It works on multiple zones simultaneously and also edits the right side if the sample is stereo.

    Here’s how:

Use DATA1 to highlight the Explode menu
option and use DATA2 to select the number
of channels to explode into. Then click DATA1
    to explode.

    NOTE: The maximum number of
selectable channels will be defined by the
channel number of the source sample and
whether it is a mono or stereo sample.

    Some examples:

A mono sample in channel 1 will allow 2-8.

A stereo sample in channel 1+2 will allow
    2-4.

A mono sample in channel 4 will allow 2-5.

A stereo sample in channel 5+6 will only
    allow 2.

Chop (2–8) works exactly like explode, but
uses transients to determine the chop points.

    New Zone Selection Types

Two new Zone Selection types have been
added to the Zone Selection popup:

Advance: Each new trigger causes the next
zone in numerical order to be selected (the
assigned CV is ignored). Zone 8 wraps around
    to Zone 1.

Random: Each new trigger causes a random
zone in numerical order to be selected (again,
    the assigned CV is ignored).

NOTE: If a preset created in software 2.0
that uses either Advance or Random
is loaded into an Assimil8or running 1.XX,
selection type “Continuous” will be used.

  • Rossum Electro-Music Linnaeus Thru-Zero State Variable Filter Internal Ping Mode Demo

    59

Rossum Electro-Music Linnaeus Thru-Zero State Variable Filter External Ping Mode Demo

Following in the tradition of Evolution and Morpheus, LINNAEUS represents yet another Dave Rossum innovation in filter technology.

LINNAEUS is a stereo state variable filter that provides the unique ability to linearly modulate its resonant frequency through zero into negative frequency, while maintaining stability. With extensive voltage control of nearly every parameter, Linnaeus lets you manipulate the filter’s natural response curve in new ways, to create both subtle and dramatic timbral effects. And with a “one-knob-per-parameter” interface, LINNAEUS inspires sonic creativity that invites (and rewards) real-time interaction.

LINNAEUS’s cutoff/resonant frequency is exponentially voltage controllable from sub-audio to ultrasonic frequencies, while its resonant gain (Q) is exponentially voltage controllable from 0dB to greater than 60dB.

LINNAEUS’s channel output response characteristics are independently and continuously variable from Lowpass, through Bandpass, Highpass and Notch, to Low and High Shelving characteristics. Voltage control of the response characteristics are independently selectable for each of the two channels.

The linear thru-zero modulation is provided by an integrated modulation oscillator and/or an External Linear FM modulation input.

The voltage-controllable modulation oscillator can track the filter’s exponential frequency or operate independently. The modulation oscillator’s output waveform is continuously variable from Off through Sine, Triangle, and Sawtooth, to Square. The modulation oscillator output is summed with the external linear FM input and applied to the modulation index VCA, which controls the linear thru-zero modulation index from zero to 8X. The modulation index is, of course, also voltage controllable.

    What’s with the egg?

Late in the beta testing process, our good friend and tester, Chris Meyer, raised the possibility of alternative behavior that would let LINNAEUS function as a self-contained (i.e., no input required) stereo oscillator and/or FM percussion voice with some really powerful timbral capabilities.

While we were initially hesitant to try to shoehorn the new functions into the existing interface, once Dave had prototyped them, it was clear to us all that they were just too cool not to include. So we’ve provided them in the form of alternate firmware accessed by pressing and holding the Egg button.

LINNAEUS is 16HP wide and 25mm deep.

Power requirements (max): 155mA +12V, 36mA -12V. Reverse polarity protected.

  • Rossum Electro-Music Intros Panharmonium At SynthPlex 2019

    5:45

At SynthPlex 2019, Rossum Electro-Music introduced the Panharmonium.

The Panharmonium lets you analyze the spectral content of any audio signal and use that analysis to drive a bank of from 1 to 33 oscillators.

We talked with Reek Havok, who showed us how the Panharmonium could completely mangle audio.

  • Rossum Electro-Music - Morpheus *Noise Shaping*

    14:54

Here's the first video from me walking through part of the new Morpheus module from Rossum Electro-Music. It's using noise as a broad band input to show off the absolutely powerhouse of options for filtering and shaping your input(s). The noise was ran through a low pass gate which was struck rhythmically to show how the filter responds to changing amplitudes and also cut down on the harshness of a long demo of static white noise shaping.

A video will follow going through the features of the module soon. So treat this as a sonic demo showing the capability of the filtering at hand.
