Blues Guitar Xtravaganza - Ron Thompson - BoomBoomBoomBoom

    2:53

Ron Thompson and I met when he gave of his time for the Bluesfaire benefit in July and I have enjoyed getting to know him. As serious as it gets, Ron has so much energy and a fun side that he lets out every so often.
Filmed here, at Rene Solis' October Blues Guitar Extravaganza, he offers a rare treat...his version of 'BoomBoomBoomBoom'. As I stood there trying to get some light into the shot, he made a few funny faces for the camera and I just lost it.
What a great night. Rene--you really hit it out of the park with this show.

Ron Thompson with The Tommy Castro and The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Band - Wait Forever

    5:44

Ron appeared as part of the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue led by Tommy Castro at the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma. I saw him unloading before the gig and he told me that he wasn't feeling great so I helped him lug his equipment inside. As soon as he hit the stage his face turned from a lighter shade of pale to normal and he came to life in a big way as you'll see and hear with this marvelous performance...

Recorded on July 2, 2010 using a Flip minicam.

Ron Thompson & The Resistors - Murderin Blues

    7:14

Guitarist Ron Thompson is a brilliant multi-instrumentalist. He plays piano, harmonica, mandolin, and steel guitar. Rolling Stone described Ron as searing, and Guitar Player Magazine called him a mind boggling talent. Born in Oakland, he has been playing the blues Bay Area since the early 70's, including seven appearances at the San Francisco Blues Festival. He has worked with Blues legends like Lowell Fulson, Luther Tucker, Jimmy Reed, Etta James, Big Mamma Thorton and he toured with John Lee Hooker for five years. The Resistors were twice selected as the Best Blues Band of the year. His albums with The Resistors include Treat Her Like Gold, and Just Like A Devil and demonstrate Ron's guitar talents, from Delta style acoustic guitar to searing single note electric Blues leads. Magic Touch contains a wide range of blues styles and is a mixture of blues classics (Baby Please Don't Go) and originals (Ocean of Tears). According to reviewers, Thompson hits a stage like a tornado, playing peerless slide guitar, quicksilver electric leads, squealing harmonica, pounding piano, and room-filling National steel, all the while singing with obvious passion, and rarely stopping for breath. Fans leave a Thompson show both amazed and elated. Listen to Ron's great soul blues album, Resister Twister.

Ron Thompson - Too Late Brother

    5:00

The Little Village Foundation is a non-profit record label started up under the direction of keyboardist Jim Pugh, who recently retired after twenty-five years with Robert Cray Band. The mission of this organization is to seek and record obscure yet prodigious musicians who have not received proper recognition and respect. Ron Thompson certainly falls into this category, and Son of Boogie Woogie hopes to give him nudge into the much deserved spotlight. Ron is the rare guitarist who never strayed from his blues leanings. In an era where dime a dozen rock guitarists attempt to interpret pale imitations of the blues, Thompson is the real deal. With an impressive resume early on he played with Little Joe Blue he then worked with numerous legends, including Etta James, Big Mama Thornton and Lowell Fulson, and for nearly a decade was guitarist and band leader John Lee Hooker. Then Thompson formed The Resistors and began earning admiration from other musicians like Mick Fleetwood. The recording reveals an authentic and electrifying voice and passionate guitarist. Thompson demonstrates he is adept at shuffling blues as the Too Late Brother . Though most of the authentic bluesmen who originated this uniquely African-American music have passed, Ron Thompson continues not only to play in the time honored tradition, but to live the life he sings about. Says Thompson, “I want to play, and I want to be real about it. I am truly lucky to be able to play this kind of music.”
    Ron Thompson - vocals, guitar
Jim Pugh - hammond B3 organ
    D’Mar - drums
    Year of release - 2015

Ron Thompson - I Feel So Good

    7:05

A superb musician and music man deserving wider recognition and appreciation. Here he excels on Magic Sam's I Feel So Good (I Wanna Boogie) and then appears to make a quick transition into Shake It Up and Go when the mike stand malfunctions. He proceeds to work through the tune instrumentally, and smoothly, as the tech folks try to address the mike-stand issue. (Rancho Nicasio, Marin County, CA--Labor Day 2011).
