Def Leppard, Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, Zombies, Roxy Music, The Cure In Rock Hall Class Of 2019

    3:34

Def Leppard, Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, Zombies, Roxy Music, The Cure Rock Hall Class Of 2019
If it's been 25 years since the release of your debut album an artist can be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and this year, like most, have some pleasant surprises and some winners that will make real rockers shake their heads.

The full class of 2019 will include Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, The Cure, Roxy Music, the Zombies and Janet Jackson. It's the latter that some might have a problem with. Rockers always wince at this time of the year when an artist outside Rock gets in. Artist nominated but not inducted include Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus & Chaka Khan, MC5, LL Cool J, John Prine and Devo

The Rock Hall Ceremony is on March 29th in New York and will be aired later on SeriusXM and HBO.

Stevie Nicks was inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998. Nicks said, “I have a lot to say about this,” but I will save those words for later. For now I will just say, I have been in a band since 1968. To be recognized for my solo work makes me take a deep breath and smile. It’s a glorious feeling.”

Jackson said, “Thank you Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” she says. “I am truly honoured and I am happy to be in there with my brothers.”

Joe Elliott of Def Leppard was pretty thrilled, “Now we can stop holding our breath,” he tells Rolling Stone. “How wonderful to be in the same club as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles and the Who and Queen … It’s a nice badge of honour.” - by John Beaudin

The Zombies Rock Hall of Fame Time of the Season

    3:32

December 13, 2018 update: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame officially inducted The Zombies into the Class of 2019! For Colin Blunstone of the Zombies – who have been eligible since 1989 and have appeared on three previous ballots – this was the result of incredible patience and persistence. “You do start to doubt that it could happen,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I’ve tried to be fairly philosophical about it and tell myself that if we don’t get inducted, it’s just a bit of fun. Don’t take it too seriously. But of course when you’re actually inducted, everything changes. You think, ‘This is a career-defining [and] life-defining moment.'”

His longtime bandmate Rod Argent echoed Blunstone’s sentiment. “I know it’s fashionable in some circles to say, ‘I don’t mind whether I get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not,'” he tells Rolling Stone. “But that is not how I’ve ever felt. When we were first nominated, that felt like a huge honor in its own right. And this time to turn the corner and get inducted, feels fantastic … I’m just so delighted.” Source: RollingStone.com

The Zonbies 1968 album Odessey and Oracle is ranked number 100 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Zombies current line up is Colin Blunstone on vocals, Rod Argent on keyboards/vocals, Jim Rodford on bass guitar, Tom Toomey on lead guitar, Steve Rodford on drums. Original members Chris White and Hugh Grundy along with Darian Sahanaja (of the Brian Wilson Band) and Vivienne Boucherat join during the entire set 2 Odessey and Oracle album performance.

The list of 2018 inductees will be announced in December 2017, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Inductions ceremony will be held in Cleveland on April 14. Rock Hall 2018 nominees are:

My Philosophy: I love music. I love all kinds of music. And I go into every album wanting to love it, so that’s my starting point for every review. Keep in mind, though, that music is a very personal thing. An album may hit me personally in a very different way than it hits you. That’s complexly natural and unavoidable, which is why I try to include some personal context in my reviews. It’s so you’ll have a better idea where I’m coming from. In the end, it’s still just my personal opinion, which is inherently biased, and which you may or may not agree with. Hopefully, once in a while, we’ll find common ground.

Def Leppard Wins The Rock Hall Fan Vote

    1:59

Def Leppard's chances of being inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame have just gone way up with the band garnering the most votes.

It sure looks like Def Leppard will get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after they easily won the fan vote almost 120 Thousand votes

The band received 547,647 votes, Stevie Nicks came in second with (427,844), followed by Todd Rundgren (365,370), then the Zombies (329,052) and the Cure (264,443).

Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott told Ultimate Classic Rock, “Let’s not get too excited, The nomination in one thing, being inducted is another. Essentially, it's worth one-thousandth of the entire vote, so it's not worth a great deal numerically speaking. … The other 999 [voters] have got no option but to take notice of it.” Since the fan vote was introduced in 2012 every act that's won the fan vote has been inducted. The other votes come from artists and industry folks.

The official class of 2019 will be announced Dec 13 with the ceremony taking place March 29 in New York. - by John Beaudin

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Nominees, Snubs and Flubs Review

    14:14

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just announced their nominees for their 2019 class, who are set to be inducted on March 29, 2019.

    Nominees include:

Radiohead, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, Rage Against the Machine, the Cure, Devo, Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Roxy Music, Todd Rundgren, John Prine, MC5, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan and the Zombies.

But... does it really matter at this point? I say, put them ALL in. I'm tired of arguing over who deserves to be in or not. The fact is, the criteria for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has CHANGED and the bar lowered SO much, that practically ANY fairly popular artist can be considered for inclusion.

Is it really a rock and roll hall of fame anymore? When you look at some of the artists who have been inducted recently, such as Grandmaster Flash, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Run DMC or Tupac, they are FAR from rock and roll. Just to be clear, I'm not saying these artists are bad in any way, they're just not rock bands.

If this is the direction the RRHOF has chosen to go when it comes to bands eligible for induction into their hall of fame, it's safe to assume we're now talking about more of a pop culture or popular music hall of fame. Certainly, artists like Tupac, Run DMC or Public Enemy have been tremendous influences on pop culture and are well deserving of such an award.

The same can be said for pop music as artists like Madonna and Abba have been inducted and they, as well, are not rock and rollers either. Having those artists in the RRHOF will just pave the way for Lady GaGa or Taylor Swift at some future date.

There's even ROCK bands who have been inducted and shouldn't have been, especially so EARLY. Green Day, for example, were inducted the same year they were nominated while other classic rock staples like Rush, Kiss, Yes, The Moody Blues and more had to wait DECADES before they were even CONSIDERED, with some even losing key members along the way.

Speaking of members, when certain bands finally do get in, some key members don't even get inducted. With Deep Purple, their guitarist of the past 20 years, Steve Morse, was not inducted into the hall of fame. However, the Red Hot Chili Peppers newcomer guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, was inducted and bassist Robert Trujillo, who I don't believe had even recorded with Metallica yet, was inducted. Basically, there's a lack of consistency across many factors that go into these decisions for nominees and inductees.

Between disrespecting key band members to picking artists from genres outside of rock and roll, I believe the RRHOF has only watered down their product and, simply put, it's not quite the honor it used to be.

As mentioned in the video, they're like MTV. There once was a time when MTV was TRULY music television by playing music videos 24/7. Eventually they turned to game shows, stand-up comedy, politics and reality series, a far cry from what they originally set out to accomplish. The SAME can be said for the RRHOF. What once began as a way to honor the pioneers of rock and roll has since turned into a pop culture popularity contest. The least they can do is change the name to reflect it.

What do you think of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? What are your 5 picks for next years induction?

Here are my picks for next year... let's see how many I get right

    Def Leppard
    Stevie Nicks
    Janet Jackson
    Kraftwerk
    The Zombies

Def Leppard & More Armageddon To The Rock Hall Of Fame

    25:55

The 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced and they include:

    The Zombies
    Radiohead
    Roxy Music
    The Cure
    Janet Jackson
    Stevie Nicks
    Def Leppard

As I've mentioned previously, I think the RRHOF is an absolute JOKE having already inducted Tupac, Grandmaster Flash, Madonna and other artists that have NOTHING to do with Rock and Roll. So really, any of these bands (along with all of the ones nominated) are eligible for induction as far as I'm concerned.

To me, it's far more interesting to discuss these bands and where they stand in 2019.

For example, The Zombies scored their first and only #1 single Time Of The Season on March 29, 1969, which will also be 50 years to the exact day of their induction into the Rock Hall, how freaky is that?

Janet Jackson is among the most successful artists of ALL time with 7 of her 11 studio albums reaching #1. She also had a hot streak of 18 consecutive Top 10 singles between 1989-1999 along with a #1 album in each of the last 4 decades.

For Stevie Nicks, not only is she getting in the first year she's eligible but she's the first female artist to be inducted TWICE, once with Fleetwood Mac and also as a solo artist.

Def Leppard is also getting into the RRHOF on the first try and topped the popular vote among fans.

Certainly all of these bands are quite eligible for being recognized for their hard work, success and influence across many generations of music fans.

What did you think of the inductees list? What bands do you hope get in next time around?

Also, be sure to check out the Community tab on this channel for a question I recently posed about your favorite release from 2018. Leave your answer there and perhaps I'll feature it in an upcoming video about the best of 2018.
