    Lyrics:
Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend
Be it mine right or wrongfully
I let it slip gladly to my friends
To tie up the time most forcefully
    But the bottles are done
    We’ve killed each one
And the table’s full and overflowed
    And the corner sign
    Says it’s closin' time
So I’ll bid farewell and be down the road

Restless Farewell the last track on his third studio album The Times They Are a-Changin' in 1964. It is based on the Scottish folk song The Parting Glass. In 1995 Dylan performed the song live as part of the Sinatra: 80 Years My Way television special celebrating entertainer Frank Sinatra's 80th birthday.

In 1968, Joan Baez covered it on her all-Dylan double album, Any Day Now. De Dannan recorded it on their 1991 release Half Set in Harlem. Robbie O'Connell performed the song as a member of Clancy, O'Connell, and Clancy on their 1997 self-titled album. On the 2012 compilation album Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International the song was covered by Mark Knopfler.

The closing song of the album, Restless Farewell takes its melody from the traditional Irish-Scots song, The Parting Glass. Dylan's lyrics have an edge due to the way that Newsweek had treated Dylan. In a profile of the singer, published in October 1963, Dylan was portrayed as someone who had lied about his middle-class origins. Furthermore, it was implied that Dylan had plagiarised the lyrics of his best-known composition, Blowin' In the Wind. Stung by these untrue allegations, Dylan composed a song about the pain of having the dust of rumor flung in his eyes. He swiftly recorded the work a few days after the Newsweek profile appeared on October 31, 1963.The album ends with Dylan's vow I'll make my stand/ And remain as I am/ And bid farewell and not give a damn.

Though generally considered an Irish song these days, this song, also known as Good Night and Joy Be With You All, is probaby of Scottish origin. Until Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne, it was the most popular parting song both in Ireland and Scotland. It was printed on broadsides as early as 1770 and appears in Herd's Scots Songs (1803). The tune itself goes back to the 1600s.

The song has been recorded many times, especially by Irish groups. Some notable recordings are Steeleye Span (on Horkstow Grange), The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, The Pogues (1985), The Dubliners, Elvis Costello and Sinead O'Connor (2002). The song was also used in a popular movie, Waking Ned Devine, where it was sung by Shaun Davey.

    Lyrics and chords:
    G ... C ........ Em ........... G .... Am
Oh, all the money that e'er I had
    ......... G ................... D7
I’ve spent it in good company
    ....... C ........ E ........... Am
And all the harm that ever I did
    .. Em....G7 ...... C .......... Em
Alas it was to none but me.
    ....... G...................... G7
And all I've done for want of wit
    ....... C ....... D7 ..... G ....... D7
    To mem'ry now I can't recall
    ..... C..... Em ...... G ........ Am
So fill to me the parting glass.
    ......... Em ......... G ........ C ........ Em
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

O, all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend
And leisure time to sit awhile
There is a fair maid in this town
That sorely has my heart beguiled.
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips
I own, she has my heart in thrall
Then fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all.

Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend
Be it mine right or wrongfully
I let it slip gladly past the hands of my friends
To tie up the time most forcefully
    But the bottles are done
    We've killed each one
And the table's full and overflowed
    And the corner sign
    Says it's closing time
So I'll bid farewell and be down the road

Oh ev'ry girl that ever I've touched
I did not do it harmfully
And ev'ry girl that ever I've hurt
I did not do it knowin'ly
    But to remain as friends
    And make amends
You need the time and stay behind
And since my feet are now fast
And point away from the past
I'll bid farewell and be down the line

Oh ev'ry foe that ever I faced
The cause was there before we came
And ev'ry cause that ever I fought
I fought it full without regret or shame
    But the dark does die
As the curtain is drawn and somebody's eyes
    Must meet the dawn
And if I see the day
    I'd only have to stay
So I'll bid farewell in the night and be gone

Oh, ev'ry thought that's strung a knot in my mind
I might go insane if it couldn't be sprung
But it's not to stand naked under unknowin' eyes
It's for myself and my friends my stories are sung
But the time ain't tall, yet on time you depend
And no word is possessed by no special friend
And though the line is cut
    It ain't quite the end
I'll just bid farewell till we meet again

Oh a false clock tries to tick out my time
To disgrace, distract, and bother me
And the dirt of gossip blows into my face
And the dust of rumors covers me
But if the arrow is straight
    And the point is slick
It can pierce through dust no matter how thick
    So I'll make my stand
    And remain as I am
And bid farewell and not give a damn
