    Lyrics: Hail (hail)
What's the matter with your head, yeah
    Hail (hail)
What's the matter with your mind
    And your sign an-a, oh-oh-oh
    Hail (hail)
Nothin' the matter with your head
Baby find it, come on and find it
    Hail, with it baby
    'Cause you're fine
And you're mine, and you look so divine
    Come and get your love
    Come and get your love
    Come and get your love
    Come and get your love
    Hail (hail)
What's the matter with you feel right
    Don't you feel right baby
    Hail, oh yeah
Get it from the main vine, all right
I said-a find it, find it
Go on and love it if you like it, yeah
    Hail (hail)
It's your business if you want some, take some
    Get it together baby
    Come and get your love..
    Hail (hail)
What's the matter with you feel right
    Don't you feel right baby
    Hail, oh yeah
Get it from the main vine, all right

This music video, for the iconic song that made Redbone the first Native American band to achieve a Top 5 single on the Billboard Hot 100, chronicles the experiences of a spiritual traveler who leaves home to explore a new world, and offers a look into the living and changing culture of Native America in the 21st Century. The film reexamines pop-culture imagery in the context of contemporary events, and is inspired by a variety of sources, from graffiti to magical realism, mixing reality with the fantastic, the past with the future. It could not have been possible without the inspiration it drew from the Native Pop Art and Indigenous Futurism art forms, which were innovated by artists who include:

  • Redbone ~ Come And Get Your Love 1973 Disco Purrfection Version

    7:33

The 70's are very special to me, every song from that time seems burnt into my saturday night fevered little brain. Every song with a beat made me wanna move my feet. The pop charts and top 40 FM radio supplied me with tons of danceable and memorable music. This one is a true delight, a relentlessly upbeat, hook filled rock tune that put out the universal call to come and get it! Not too many people resisted, it still sounds super great today! Redbone first came to my attention with their Witch Queen Of New Orleans a 1972 swamp rock tune that peaked at #21. Inspired by friend Jimi Hendrix to put together a Native American rock band, brothers Lolly and Pat Vegas along with Tony Bellamy (born Anthony Avila) and Peter DePoe, secured a record contract with his help and their debut LP, Redbone was released in 1970 on Epic Records. Their first charting single, Maggie, from their second LP, Potlach peaked at #80 for two weeks in December, 1970. The name Redbone was chosen since it meant a mixed race person in Cajun, which paid tribute to their Native American roots and the mixed races of the band members. The duo had already released an album, Pat & Lolly Vegas at the Haunted House in 1966, and also composed Niki Hoeky a #23 pop hit for PJ Proby in 1967. Their third LP, Message From A Drum contained Witch Queen Of New Orleans and paved the way for the runaway #5 pop success of Come And Get Your Love from their fourth LP, Wovoka. It made me swell with pride at my own native american ancestry, being born a full blooded Huron Indian and having them to look up to. At the time, the plight of the American Indians and the injustices they suffered throughout the development of the United States was making headlines. Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, written by Dee Brown was about the massacre of the Lakota Indians in 1890 had became a flashpoint in 1970 and opened the eyes of many Americans to the price that was paid for the birth of the United States. Redbone released a song entitled, We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee as a non album single to commemorate the needless death of nearly 500 men, women and children of the Lakota. US radio totally ignored the politically charged song because they felt that the subject matter was distasteful and controversial, with several radio chains banning the song. Sadly, Redbone lost their radio magic and never charted again. Come And Get Your Love was given an updated arrangement by Real McCoy in 1995 and that version peaked at #19. They experienced another resurgence in 2014 when their signature hit was included in The Guardians Of The Galaxy movie and soundtrack. The song benefited from the expert hand of Gene Page who arranged the strings here, and on most of Barry White's productions. Genius indeed! Bellamy passed away on Christmas Day, 2009 succumbing to liver failure and Lolly Vegas died the following year due to lung cancer. Pat continues to perform with Redbone to this day.

Originally from Fresno, California, brothers Lolly Vegas and Patrick Vegas moved to Los Angeles in 1969 to form the group Redbone, a Native American rock group that reached the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974 with Come and Get Your Love. Redbone played primarily rock music with R&B, Cajun, Jazz, tribal, and Latin roots. In 2006, Christina Martinez, with Raza Hookupz and Badist Oldies, had the honor of meeting and interviewing Lolly Vegas at his home in Los Angeles. Present at the meeting was Iron Joe, also a member of Redbone. This was a happier time as witnessed by the arrival of family towards the end of the interview. We lost Lolly Vegas in 2010, may he rest in peace.

Anything could happen! Known to cause a severe case of happy fever, this 11 piece brass band is sure to put a smile on your face in an incredibly unique live show. The Hot Potato Band have become one of the most celebrated street and stage performing bands in Australia. From large scale festivals to intimate venues they have successfully captured the energy and interaction of their street performances and perfectly integrated it into their on stage show. Describing the bands sound has been no easy feat. Combining world influences such as ska, blues, afro-cuban, pop, reggae and folk into a New Orleans inspired brass band with an Australian edge may classify the band as 'multi-genre', however, the constant joy they bring to audiences leave many suggesting a new genre of 'Happy'. Beware, as they make you the centre of their performance… literally!

  • REDBONE-COME AND GET YOUR LOVE/INTERVIEW

Interview with Pat Vega/Raven Hernandez from REDBONE.

  • REDBONE - MESSAGE FROM A DRUM - 1972

    3:53

edbone is a Native American rock group originating in the 1970s with brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas. They reached the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974 with their #1 hit single, Come and Get Your Love. The single went certified Gold selling over half a million copies. Redbone achieved hits with their singles Alcatraz, The Witch Queen of New Orleans, Wovoka, and Maggie in the United States, but predominately overseas. Redbone is known and accredited in the NY Smithsonian as the first Native American rock/cajun group to have a #1 single internationally and in the United States.
The name Redbone itself is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person (half-breed), the band's members being of mixed blood ancestry.
Redbone played primarily rock music with R&B, Cajun, Jazz, tribal, and Latin roots. Their first world commercial success came with the single The Witch Queen of New Orleans that peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and followed by the single Maggie from their second album, Potlatch. Come and Get Your Love followed as a smash #1 hit for Redbone.(1974, #5 on the Billboard Hot 100). Come and Get Your Love, written by Lolly Vegas, remained on the chart for 24 weeks, and was certified gold by the R.I.A.A. on April 22, 1974.Redbone was also the opening act introducing the very first Earth Day to the world in Philadelphia along with Senator Muskie. Their opening song was Chant 13th Hour from the Potlatch album. In 1973, Redbone released the politically oriented We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee, recalling the massacre of Lakota Sioux Indians by the Seventh Cavalry in 1890.

Redbone singer and guitarist Lolly Vegas dies at 70.

Lolly Vegas, the lead singer and guitarist for Redbone, a Native American rock band that had a million-selling hit in 1974 with the bouncy Come and Get Your Love, died in his sleep Thursday at his home in Reseda.

He had lung cancer and had been in poor health since suffering a stroke 15 years ago.

Redbone rode the tight, driving style of Come and Get Your Love to No. 5 on Billboards pop singles chart, but most of the bands songs had less of a dance feel and more of a swamp-rock sound. The band first gained notice with Maggie in 1970 and The Witch Queen of New Orleans in 1971.

In concert, Redbone often dressed in traditional Native American attire, and some of the group's songs, including We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee, emphasized the members' Indian background.

Vegas was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Coalinga, Calif., and grew up in Fresno. He and his brother Pat, a singer and bassist, were session musicians who performed together as Pat and Lolly Vegas in the 1960s at Sunset Strip clubs and on the TV variety show Shindig!

The brothers also were prolific songwriters whose Niki Hoeky was covered by Aretha Franklin, Bobbie Gentry and P.J. Proby.
