    R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts

    5:45

Everybody Hurts from R.E.M.’s best-selling 1992 album, Automatic for the People. Order the 25th anniversary album:

R.E.M. is excited to announce the reissue of their landmark album Automatic For The People to commemorate the record's 25th Anniversary. Due November 10 via Craft Recordings, the remastered album will be available in a variety of formats, the most extensive of which is the Deluxe Anniversary Edition, which will feature the album in its entirety mixed in Dolby Atmos.

The album (plus bonus track “Photograph,” featuring Natalie Merchant) was remixed in Dolby Atmos by Automatic’s original producer, Scott Litt, and engineer, Clif Norrell. This technology delivers a leap forward from surround sound with expansive, flowing audio that immerses the listener far beyond what stereo can offer. It transports the listener inside the recording studio with multi-dimensional audio – evoking a time when listening to music was an active, transformative experience, and reigniting the emotion you felt when you first heard the album in 1992. R.E.M.’s Automatic For The People is the first album to be commercially released in this expressive, breathtaking format.

In addition, the 4-disc Deluxe Edition will offer a wealth of previously unreleased material. The band selected 20 never-before-heard demos from the LP’s sessions, including the fully-realized, unreleased track “Mike’s Pop Song” and the oft-mused about song, “Devil Rides Backwards.”

    R.E.M. - 9 June 1984, Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ

    1:5:33

    Date: June 9, 1984
    Location: Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ

R.E.M. at their absolute peak as a performing band. The audio mix is almost perfectly balanced, showcasing not only the quartet's amazing chemistry on stage, but the underrated brilliance of Bill Berry's drumming. To quote Stephen Silvia on The Atlantic's website (commenting on an appreciation of GREEN): . . . I just posted above about his importance to the band but it bears repeating. He is so underrated. He was a punk drummer with a jazz touch. He pushed REM but never stomped on them. Instead he floated along on top of them while distributing relentless forward motion. Almost everyone else who tries to play REM songs ends up sounding heavy handed. Bill was a very special drummer.

    ===========================
    Show Notes:

Three songs are performed for the first time live: Driver 8 and Old Man Kensey, which would appear a year later on their third album, FABLES OF THE RECONSTRUCTION (released on June 10, 1985); and Hyena, which appears on their fourth album, LIFES RICH PAGEANT (release date: July 28, 1986).

Their second album, RECKONING, was released less than two months before this show (US release date: April 19, 1984), and they play seven of its 10 tracks: Second Guessing, Letter Never Sent, Harborcoat, So. Central Rain, 7 Chinese Bros., Little America, Pretty Persuasion.

They play three songs from their classic first album, MURMUR (release date: 4/12/83): Sitting Still, 9-9, Radio Free Europe.

From their debut EP, CHRONIC TOWN (release date: August 24, 1982): Gardening at Night, Carnival of Sorts.

    REM The one I love

    4:08

Enjoy it! Dedicated to the one I love! Mili.

Michael Stipe and Mike Mills unbox the deluxe edition of Monster 25. Available here:

The deluxe box set (5-CD/1-Blu-ray) features the original album (remastered), plus special remixes from the original Monster producer Scott Litt, a disc of previously unreleased demos, as well as a complete live 1995 performance captured in Chicago.

The accompanying Blu-ray offers Monster in both hi-resolution audio and 5.1 Surround Sound, a host of video content: the 90-minute film Road Movie, which documents R.E.M.’s 1995 tour, and all six music videos from Monster.

The collection is packaged in a five-and-a-half-inch portfolio book, featuring liner notes by journalist Matthew Perpetua—with new interviews from band members—and archival photographs.

Expanded editions, offering the original album and the remixed version, will also be available on two 180-gram vinyl LPs or two CDs, both featuring reimagined cover art by longtime R.E.M. designer Chris Bilheimer.

The remastered album will also be available as a standalone 180-gram vinyl LP, with the original 1994 Monster artwork.

Digital editions of the album will mirror the complete deluxe audio content—remastered, remixed and live— available across all streaming and download platforms. Digital breakouts will also offer the remastered and remixed album in hi-resolution (88.1/24).
