Video Awarded Silver Medal of Honor at IndieGo in Jan. 2012

Pukaar is an impassioned plea (a small effort from our side) for reaching out to the victims of the recent floods. One of the worst natural calamities in recent memory, the flood has been termed by International media as a bigger disaster than the tsunami. 2 months on, we strongly feel that the response has been wanting in in the aspects of official patronage and long term rehabilitation. After the initial out pour where individuals went all out in providing food and relief goods to the affectees, there has been little effort to channelize these efforts into an organized response. Mismanagement and corruption has made it even more difficult to get aid across to the most deserving. The need for a planned long term rehabilitation program is being given little or no importance just like so many other important issues facing our country. We collectively as a nation need to reclaim our faith from the clutches of indifference and disbelief.

    Translation in English

    A Plea

With just the sky for a roof
    My people lie shattered
    Their dreams reduced to dust
Among the rubble of wrecked walls and broken roofs
    Their cries for help
    Await a listening ear.

Surely now is the time to reclaim our faith
From the clutches of indifference and disbelief
Rise once again sons of the soil
Your land calls out to you
Your people need you once again

Together we can heal the suffering
Together we can wipe away the tears
Together we can end the pain
Let this be our plea/ our prayer

  • Qayaas _ Shehrezade - Pakistani Band

    4:13

    Band: Qayaas
    Song: Shehrezade
    Language: Urdu
    Country of origin: Pakistan

    About Qayaas:
Qayaas literally translated as deliberation is not only the name of our band but the essence that encapsulates the entire philosophy behind our music. It is the coming together of individual deliberation on inspirational moments, relationships or life in general that take the form of musical notes. Our music and the words that frame them are essentially a spontaneous overflow of powerful emotion.

But that is just the beginning of the journey. The idea or feeling taking birth in one band members mind is developed and brought to fruition by collective deliberation or Qayaas by the whole band. Creativity is like a breeze: fleeting, invisible and just as hard to catch. Five different people, their different moods, outlooks and music philosophies harmoniously blend to form compositions that reflect a coming-together of creative energy. We strongly believe that this creative energy should flow through our compositions and reach our listeners; unadulterated in this wondrous journey by commercial concerns or other shortcuts.

For the uninitiated our music can be enjoyed as a celebration of the beauty of simplicity and on our part we hope never to be guilty of making simple joys of life complex. Conversely, we cherish the complexities that life has to offer which need no answers but are to be felt, savored, and shared through our words and notes. Both these moods integrate into the tapestry of our music and are manifested at times in light hearted renditions or at others in more somber classically inspired numbers. Each song of ours has a history, a metamorphosis, a journey that has seen numerous musings from certain points in our lives revisited, opened to ideas by the band and then crafted into its current form.

  • Umeed - Story Version

    4:31

Umeed is all about keeping faith and finding the light at the end of the tunnel. Pakistan is going through tough times and the future looms uncertain and hopeless for most. Now is the time, more than ever before for artists and opinion makers to raise their voices in cultivating hope amongst the youth of the country. Umeed is one such effort on our behalf. The main concept of the video is to highlight the brain drain affecting our country. Due to glaring corruption, hopeless politicians and rampant lawlessness, bright individuals who could help build a progressive Pakistan for the coming generation, end up leaving home for greener pastures abroad. This trend can be reversed and a positive environment created by embracing our rich and priceless cultural heritage which is being blatantly ignored. The government needs to realize that in order to create a hopeful environment and promote a peaceful image of our society, arts and culture should be given their due importance. Individual artists are doing it on their own with their own resources but that is in small pockets and cannot produce the desired effect.

The youth of this country need to release their energies positively and in a constructive way. They need true entertainment, not the one that is provided by the mediocre media channels with their own nefarious agendas. Umeed is a voice that calls to all of us that keep believing in your dreams and make sure that you work hard and act in good faith to achieve those dreams.

We have already released a performance version of the video earlier and this will be the story version.

Shehrezade is an invocation of the evil, seemingly beautiful people (in this case a woman) are capable of. The title itself is reminiscent of classical fairy tales building to an expectation of a love ballad, only here the beauty of the name belies the darkness and torment it actually evokes. It is like the lingering shadow of a nightmare that threatens to taint reality with its virulence. Shehrezade is not merely a name but an entity, a world where modesty and debauchery, beauty and ugliness, good and evil are all black and white. There can be no shades of gray filtered through the permissiveness of new age morality. It is a most primitive defence mechanism against the beauty in evil and the evil in beauty.

  • Bob Dylan - Gotta Serve Somebody cover by Qayaas Band in Pakistan

    3:52

Pakistan is a country that can often dominate the global news agendas for the wrong reasons. What gets overshadowed is the rich culture and arts emerging from this region and scenes that have been thriving for so many years now. The country that gave the worldwide music scene the likes of legends such as Nusret Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen, also plays host to a hotbed of Rock and Roll bands... far too many to list here in fact!

Qayaas are one of the many exciting Rock and Roll bands based in Islamabad, Pakistan, and this is live concert footage from one of their many recent shows. Here they cover the classic track 'Gotta Serve Somebody' by the great Bob Dylan.

Qayaas travel to the UK from Pakistan in early 2014 so look out for some exciting multimedia conten, updates and press features with #TIG Media via:
