  • National Anthem of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Bulgaria

    3:46

[UPDATED FROM 2013] The National Anthem of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Bulgaria has remained as Mila Rodino like its predecessor. However, their Flag and Coat of Arms has drastically changed, with the Coat of Arms somewhat combining the first iteration and the last and with the addition of the Hammer and Sickle within the Star. As for the Flag, the Coat of Arms has been placed in the center of the Flag with a much larger size, rather than being placed smaller and in the upper-left canton. The New Warsaw Pact and each of the 5 member nations were formed after the 2037-2039 Eastern Bloc Revolutions, which was aided by the New USSR's Armed Forces. Unlike the first Warsaw Pact, East Germany and Albania are absent, and Premier Latyeskov feared that if he were to recapture what was East Germany, a third World War would start. After the formation, diplomats from the Warsaw Pact member states along with ambassadors from the Western European states signed the Geneva Non-Aggression Pact during a conference in Geneva, Switzerland on August 23rd, 2039.

  • Bulgarian National Anthem 1950-1964 -

    3:33

Once Communist rule was secured in Bulgaria, “Balgariyo mila” was introduced as the national anthem. Interestingly, the anthem was replaced in 1964 while the Communists were still in power. One of the composers of the music, Georgi Dimitrov (not to be confused with the Communist leader of the time with the same name) also wrote the previous anthem.

Lyrics by: Nikola Furnadshiev, Mladen Issaev and Elisaveta Bagrjana.
Music by: Georgi Dimitrov, Georgi Zlatev-Tscherkin and Svetoslav Obretenov.

    Lyrics (Cyrillic):

    CHORUS:

    Chorus

NOTE: This upload is actually a reuse of the national anthem of the former People's Republic of Bulgaria under the communist era - Mila Rodino (Мила Родино / Dear Motherland) - that I used in a previous upload while answering this question of alternate history: What if the People's Republic of Bulgaria became a republic of the Soviet Union? This was actually based on surprising research that I saw on the Wikipedia article on the republics of the Soviet Union (

The leader of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, Todor Zhivkov, suggested in the early 1960s that the country should become a union republic, but the offer was rejected.

The new title of this national anthem from an alternate timeline is now called the State Anthem of the Bulgarian Soviet Socialist Republic As a disclaimer I am still showing respect of the original anthem while I wrote down the original Bulgarian text at the bottom so you can sing along with it. I just think this medley remix that I made on Audacity by speeding it up sounds great and liked the way it turned out. The flag featured on this video is what the Bulgarian flag would look like if it were a Soviet republic; it combines the symbolism from the flags of Soviet Union and Bulgaria. See also the original upload featuring the Nightcore version of the anthem at .

Mila Rodino (Мила Родино, translated as Dear Motherland or Dear native land) is the current national anthem of Bulgaria. It is based on the music and text of the song Gorda Stara Planina by Tsvetan Radoslavov, written and composed as he left to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian War in 1885. The anthem was adopted in 1964. The text has been changed many times, most recently in 1990.

Shumi Maritsa (Bulgarian: Шуми Марица, pronounced [ʃoˈmi mɐˈritsɐ]) was the Bulgarian national anthem from 1886 until 1947. The music was derived from the German folk song Wenn die Soldaten durch die Stadt marschieren that was very popular in Bulgaria in the mid-19th century. The original text was written by Nikola Zhivkov, a head teacher in Veles (now in the Republic of Macedonia). The lyrics were edited many times, most notably in 1912 by the poet Ivan Vazov. The title refers to the Maritsa river. It literally translates to Maritsa makes noise but the connotation is closer to Maritsa roars.
