    Lyrics:

A man walks down the street
He says why am I soft in the middle now
Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard
    I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
    In a cartoon graveyard
    Bonedigger Bonedigger
    Dogs in the moonlight
    Far away my well-lit door
    Mr. Beerbelly Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore

    If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
    I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
    You can call me Al

And friends just can't be found

    I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down

    When you're down and out
    When you're on the street
    When evening falls so hard
    I will comfort you
    I'll take your part
    When darkness comes
    And pain is all around

    Slip slidin’ away
    Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away

    I know a man
    He came from my hometown
He wore his passion for his woman
    Like a thorny crown
He said, “Delores, I live in fear
My love for you’s so overpowering
I’m afraid that I will disappear”

    Slip slidin’ away
    Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away

    And, I know a woman
    Became a wife
These are the very words she uses to describe her life
    She said, “A good day
    Ain’t got no rain”
She said, “A bad day’s when I lie in bed
And think of things that might have been”

    Slip slidin’ away
    Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away

    And I know a father
    Who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons
    For the things he’d done
    He came a long way
    Just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and headed home again

    Slip slidin’ away
    Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away

    God only knows
    God makes his plan
    The information’s unavailable
    To the mortal man
    We’re working our jobs
    Collect our pay
Believe we’re gliding down the highway
When in fact we’re slip slidin’ away

    Slip slidin’ away
    Slip slidin’ away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you’re slip slidin’ away

This brilliant song by Paul Simon was released in 1977 and made it to number 5 in the U.S.. He originally recorded this song in 1975 for Simon's 1975 album Still Crazy After All These Years, but Simon decided not to include the song on the finished album for some reason. Hope you like the footage i have used here, i love Kayaking and thought this footage went well with the song....

    Lyrics:

    It was a slow day
    And the sun was beating
On the soldiers by the side of the road
    There was a bright light
    A shattering of shop windows
The bomb in the baby carriage
    Was wired to the radio

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation
That's dying in a corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don't cry baby, don't cry
    Don't cry

    In The Blue Light
    Buy/Listen -

    About the album:
Produced by Simon and Roy Halee, who have worked together since the 1960s, the album features collaborations with a diverse array of artists who have joined Simon to lend fresh perspectives on 10 of the artist's favorite (though perhaps less-familiar) compositions drawn from the five-decade span of his illustrious solo career. Revisiting his repertoire, Simon has selected songs originally appearing on There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), One-Trick Pony (1980), Hearts and Bones (1983), The Rhythm of The Saints (1990), You're The One (2000) and So Beautiful Or So What (2011), refreshing and transforming the compositions through new arrangements and a talented cast of guest musicians. Among the many artists joining Simon on In The Blue Light are jazz icons trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, guitarist Bill Frisell, drummers Jack DeJohnette and Steve Gadd and chamber ensemble quintet yMusic.

    Lyrics:

If you leap awake in the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second you can't remember where you are
Just open your window and follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain where we counted every falling star

I believe a light that shines on you will shine on you forever
And though I can't guarantee there's nothing scary hiding under your bed
I'm gonna stand guard like a postcard of a Golden Retriever
And never leave 'til I leave you with a sweet dream in your head

    I'm gonna watch you shine
    Gonna watch you grow
    Gonna paint a sign
    So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

Paul Simon - Graceland & You Can Call Me Al

    9:52

Hard Rock Calling 2012 (Hyde Park, London)

Graceland is the title song of the album Graceland, released in 1986 by Paul Simon. The lyrics deal with the singer's thoughts during a road trip to Graceland after the failure of his marriage to actress and author Carrie Fisher. The song won the 1988 Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

You Can Call Me Al is also a song by Paul Simon, the first single released from his album Graceland. The lyrics can be interpreted as describing a man experiencing a midlife crisis (Where's my wife and family? What if I die here? Who'll be my role model?). However, as Paul Simon himself explained during the Graceland episode of the Classic Albums documentary series, by the third verse the lyrics move from a generic portrait-like perspective to a personal and autobiographical one, as he describes his journey to South Africa which inspired the entire album. The names in the song came from an incident at a party that Simon went to with his then-wife Peggy Harper. French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who was attending the same party, mistakenly referred to Paul as Al and to Peggy as Betty, inspiring Simon to write a song.

    Lyrics (Graceland):

    The Mississippi Delta
Was shining like a National guitar
    I am following the river
    Down the highway
Through the cradle of the Civil War

    I'm going to Graceland
    Graceland
    In Memphis,Tennessee
    I'm going to Graceland
    Poorboys and pilgrims with families
And we are going to Graceland
My traveling companion is nine years old
He is the child of my first marriage
    But I've reason to believe
    We both will be received
    In Graceland

She comes back to tell me she's gone
As if I didn't know that
As if I didn't know my own bed
    As if I'd never notice
The way she brushed her hair from
Her forehead and she said, Losing love
Is like a window in your heart
    Everybody sees you're blown apart
    Everybody feels the wind blow

    I'm going to Graceland
    Memphis, Tennessee
    I'm going to Graceland
    Poorboys and pilgrims with families
And we are going to Graceland
    And my traveling companions
    Are ghosts and empty sockets
I'm looking at ghosts and empties
    But I've reason to believe
    We all will be received
    In Graceland

There is a girl in New York City
Who calls herself the human trampoline
And sometimes when I'm falling, flying
Or tumbling in turmoil I say
Whoa, so this is what she means
She means we're bouncing into Graceland
    And I see losing love
Is like a window in your heart
    Everybody sees you're blown apart
    Everybody feels the wind blow

    In Graceland, in Graceland
    I'm going to Graceland
    For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see Graceland
And I may be obliged to defend
    Every love, every ending
Or maybe there's no obligations now
Maybe I've a reason to believe
    We all will be received
    In Graceland

    Whoa, in Graceland, in Graceland
    In Graceland,
    I'm going to Graceland

Lyrics (You Can Call Me Al):

A man walks down the street
He says, Why am I soft in the middle now?
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
    I need a photo opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
    In a cartoon graveyard
    Bonedigger, bonedigger
    Dogs in the moonlight
    Far away my well-lit door
    Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff
    Amusing anymore

    If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long-lost pal
    I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me
    You can call me Al

A man walks down the street
He says, Why am I short of attention?
Got a short little span of attention
And, woe my nights are so long
    Where's my wife and family?
    What if I die here?
    Who'll be my role model
Now that my role model is
    Gone gone?
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
    All along along
    There were incidents and accidents
    There were hints and allegations

    If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long-lost pal
    I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me
    You can call me Al
    Call me Al

A man walks down the street
    It's a street in a strange world
    Maybe it's the third world
Maybe it's his first time around
    He doesn't speak the language
    He holds no currency
    He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound, the sound
    Cattle in the marketplace
    Scatterlings and orphanages
    He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
    Spinning in infinity
    He says, Amen! and Hallelujah!

    Call me Al

    Na na na na...

    If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long-lost pal
    I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me
    You can call me Al
    Call me Al

    Paul Simon, Sound Of Silence

    4:55

Paul Simon plays The Sound of Silence live in concert during an Outside Lands Pop-Up Show at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California on Friday, August 9, 2019.

The song was originally released on Simon and Garfunkel's debut album, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. (1964). It was was one of the first songs played live by Simon and Garfunkel, helping to land them their record deal with Columbia Records. After Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. commercially flopped, Simon and Garfunkel disbanded, and Paul Simon later released a new version of the song on his solo album, The Paul Simon Songbook, in 1965. The Simon & Garfunkel version began to receive extensive radio airplay in late 1965, especially after Columbia Records issued a remix of the song (without the duo's knowledge), and later became their first Number 1 hit. The success of this song prompted Simon & Garfunkel to reunite and release a second album in early 1966.

Paul Simon played the final show of his Farewell Tour on September 22, 2018, but has come out of his retirement from touring to headline at the Outside Lands Festival this Sunday in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. He has announced that he will contribute all proceeds from Sunday's performance to Friends of the Urban Forest and the San Francisco Parks Alliance. After Outside Lands, Simon will play two shows in Maui on August 13 and 14 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, again donating all of his net proceeds to local environmental groups.

    =====================================================
    The Sound Of Silence lyrics:

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by
The flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
    And no one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence

Fools, said I, You do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
    And the sign said:
The words of the prophets are
    Written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence.

    Paul Simon official bio:

During his distinguished career spanning six decades, musician and songwriter Paul Simon has produced timeless masterpieces, such as Bridge Over Troubled Water, Still Crazy After All These Years, and Graceland, all of which garnered Grammy Album of the Year.

Mr. Simon was awarded the inaugural Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which recognizes the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world's culture. Mr. Simon is also a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, and, in 2006, was named one of Time magazine's 100 People Who Shape Our World.

Of Mr. Simon’s many concert appearances, he is most fond of the two concerts in Central Park in New York (with his partner and childhood friend Art Garfunkel in 1981 and as a solo artist in 1991) and the series of shows he did at the invitation of Nelson Mandela in South Africa: the first American artist to perform in post-apartheid South Africa. In 1998, his performance on center field at Yankee Stadium celebrating the unveiling of Joe DiMaggio’s monument is a treasured memory for this lifelong Yankee’s fan.

Paul Simon's varied philanthropic work includes the co-founding of the Children's Health Fund, which donates and staffs 53 mobile medical units that bring health care to low-income children and their families around the United States, providing more than 3 million doctor/patient visits since its inception in 1987.

In June 2017, net proceeds from Mr. Simon's month-long U.S. concert tour were donated to benefit the Half-Earth Project, an initiative of the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation. During Paul Simon's Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour in 2018, he left a financial gift in each city he visited on tour, benefitting local youth and environmental organizations.

In a letter to fans announcing his Farewell Tour and retirement from touring last year, Mr. Simon said, After this tour, I anticipate doing the occasional performance…and to donate those earnings to various philanthropic organizations, particularly those whose objective it is to save the planet, ecologically.

Paul Simon & George Harrison - Homeward Bound

    2:40

Saturday Night Live (20 November 1976)

Homeward Bound is an American folk song written by Paul Simon, performed by Simon and Garfunkel, produced by Bob Johnston and recorded on December 14, 1965. It describes Simon's longing to return home to his then girlfriend, Kathy Chitty, who was in London. It is uncertain exactly where the song was written: in an interview with Paul Zollo for SongTalk Magazine, Art Garfunkel says that Simon wrote the song in a railway station around Manchester while in an earlier interview for Playboy Magazine Simon stated that the railway station was in Liverpool. It is likely, however, that it was written at Widnes railway station during a long wait for a train, when traveling back from Widnes, where he had been playing.

    Lyrics:

I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket for my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And every stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.

    Homeward bound,
    I wish I was,
    Homeward bound,
    Home where my thought's escaping,
    Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
    Silently for me.

    Every day's an endless stream
    Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And every stranger's face I see reminds me that I long to be,

    Homeward bound,
    I wish I was,
    Homeward bound,
    Home where my thought's escaping,
    Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
    Silently for me.

Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.

    Homeward bound,
    I wish I was,
    Homeward bound,
    Home where my thought's escaping,
    Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
    Silently for me.
    Silently for me.

    Lyrics:

I'm accustomed to a smooth ride
Or maybe I'm a dog who's lost its bite
I don't expect to be treated like a fool no more
I don't expect to sleep through the night
    Some people say a lie's a lie's a lie
    But I say why
    Why deny the obvious child?
    Why deny the obvious child?

And in remembering a road sign
I am remembering a girl when I was young
And we said These songs are true
    These days are ours
    These tears are free
    And hey
The cross is in the ballpark
The cross is in the ballpark

We had a lot of fun
We had a lot of money
We had a little son and we thought we'd call him Sonny
Sonny gets married and moves away
Sonny has a baby and bills to pay
    Sonny gets sunnier
Day by day by day by day
