Montserrat Hey Jude - Live Paul McCartney, Elton John, Clapton, Sting, Knopfler, Phil Collins

Music For Montserrat was a concert held on September 15, 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall. Musicians came together to raise funds for the Caribbean island of Montserrat after a major volcanic eruption earlier that year had left the island devastated. The concert starred musicians such as Phil Collins, Ray Cooper, Carl Perkins, Jimmy Buffett, Mark Knopfler, Sting, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Midge Ure, Arrow and many more, all of whom had once recorded at the island's famous AIR Studios.

The concert was arranged and produced by George Martin, with proceeds from the show evening, DVD and CD, used for immediate relief and also helping fund the building of a new cultural center in Montserrat. On completion in 2006, George Martin gifted the centre to the islanders.

For Carl Perkins this was his last major live performance as he died just over four months later on January 19, 1998

Paul McCartney & Bruce Springsteen - I Saw Her Standing There & Twist And Shout

Hard Rock Calling 2012 (Hyde Park, London)

Bruce Springsteen was joined onstage by Paul McCartney as he brought the second night of Hard Rock Calling to a close, but their set was cut shot when organisers turned off their microphones after they broke the venue's sound curfew. McCartney joined Springsteen onstage for I Saw Her Standing There and Twist And Shout, the final songs in Springsteen's 29-song set, which lasted three and a quarter hours in total. But organisers pulled the plug on the encore while The Boss and Macca were trying to address the crowd, rendering them inaudible, to the disbelief of the audience.

Bruce Springsteen said he was amazed when concert bosses pulled the plug on his performance with Paul McCartney: I wasn't aware the plug had been pulled, and people couldn't hear what I was singing. Afterwards I said to Paul, 'I can understand them pulling the plug on me, but you? Aren't you a knight?'

Paul McCartney remembers: Bruce, sort of, got in touch and said, 'Do you wanna get up? We'd like you to get up'. I said, 'Well, I don't know, I'll just come along to the show', so we're in the side of the show in the wings, and he says 'Are you gonna get up, man?', I said 'I don't know, maybe'. Then his roadie says 'I've got a bass for you, I've got a guitar, it's all tuned, it's ready to go'. I go 'Oh, you're REALLY ready!'. So they're all really ready to go, so, what have they rehearsed? He said 'Twist And Shout' and 'I Saw Her Standing There'. So at last minute, I sort of have to say, 'Yeah, I'll do it', so I go on, and it's great, they really have rehearsed it, and I'm the only one who sort of doesn't know it, even though I wrote the bloody thing. So then they go to 'Twist And Shout', and I'm singing it, and someone had whispered 'We haven't got any time, we can't do it', but it was so nice, Bruce is going 'Yeah, come on, man' and Bruce is you know, he's a do-er, a go-getter, so I was happy. 'Yeah!'. We're rocking away, all our monitors stayed on, so we weren't really aware that the plug had been pulled on the audience, that you see on the youtube later, it's all gone dead. And he is singing, he's gonna then go back and sing ' Good Night Irene', which I think was all dead, but we had a laugh again. You've gotta have a laugh, it would just be so terrifying if you didn't, so we just had a laugh afterwards, I was just apologetic like 'I'm sorry, man, only in Britain!'. It's the only place... You can't imagine in New York somewhere like that, them pulling the plug, and it got everyone of course, so that was the big story. Everyone in America was going to me 'Is it true, man? They pulled the plug on you and Springsteen?!', and I'm saying 'Yeah, well, you know, just some guy. Some bloody jobsworth...'

When I find myself in times of trouble
    Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

    And when the broken-hearted people
    Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be

Here come old flat top, he come
    Groovin' up slowly, he got

He wear no shoeshine, he got
    Toe jam football, he got
    Monkey finger, he shoot
    Coca-Cola, he say,
I knowin' you, and you knowin' me,
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free!

Come together right now, over me

    Guitar solo :

    He bad production, he got
    Walrus gumboot, he got
    Ono sideboard, he one
    Spinal cracker, he got
    Feet down below his knees
Hold you in his armchair, you can feel his disease

    Early warnin', he got
    Muddy water, he one
    Mojo filter, he say,

Paul McCartney - Something - George Harrison Tribute HQ

Sir Paul, from the 2nd show, both sold out with 17,000, each concert. Best concert I've ever seen...
Venue: Bell Center, Montreal, July 27, 2011.

Tuneage: Something is a song by the Beatles, written by George Harrison and released on the band's 1969 album Abbey Road. It was also issued on a double A-sided single with another track from the album, Come Together. Something was the first Harrison composition to appear as a Beatles A-side, and the only song written by him to top the US charts before the band's break-up in April 1970. The single was also one of the first Beatles singles to contain tracks already available on an LP album.

The song drew high praise from the band's primary songwriters, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, with Lennon stating that Something was the best song on Abbey Road and McCartney considering it the best song Harrison had written. As well as critical acclaim, the single achieved commercial success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and making the top five in the United Kingdom. The song has been covered by over 150 artists, making it the second-most covered Beatles song after Yesterday. Artists who have covered the song include Phish, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, James Brown, Shirley Bassey, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, Smokey Robinson, Ike & Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Isaac Hayes, Julio Iglesias and Neil Diamond. Harrison said his favourite version of the song was James Brown's, which he kept in his personal jukebox.

Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton - Moon River

Beck and Clapton made this song a part of their collaborative show at Madison Square Garden on Feb 19, 2010. Not quite the riff-trading guitar pyrotehnics one might expect from this pair but marvelously executed. An unusual choice?......maybe.....but if Rod Stewart can do it, why not these guys? I think Andy Williams would approve.

    Lyrics :

    We skipped the light fandango
    Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
    I was feeling kinda seasick
But crowd called out for more
    The room was humming harder
    As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
    The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

    She said:There is no reason
And the truth is plain to see.
As I wandered through my playing cards
And would not let her be
    One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might just as well been closed

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
Her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

    Guitar Solo :

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first was ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale

    Yer Blues

    Yes, I'm lonely
    Wanna die
    Yes, I'm lonely
    Wanna die
    If I ain't dead already
Ooh! Girl you know the reason why

    In the morning
    Wanna die
    In the evening
    Wanna die
    If I ain't dead already
Ooh! Girl you know the reason why

My mother was up the sky,
My father was up the earth,
But I am up the universe
And you know what it's worth

    I'm lonely
    Wanna die
    If I ain't dead already
Ooh! Girl you know the reason why

    The eagle picks my eye
The worm he licks my bone
    I feel so suicidal
    Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones

    Wanna die
    If I ain't dead already
Ooh! Girl you know the reason why

    Black cloud crossed my mind
    Blue mist round my soul
    Feel so suicidal
Even hate my rock and roll

    Wanna die
    Yeah! Wanna die
    If I ain't dead already
Ooh! Girl you know the reason why
