  • String Quartet Op. 51 No. 1 in C minor - Romanze LIVE HD 720p

    7:15

    The Amadeus Quartet was a world famous string quartet founded in 1947.
    Because of their Jewish origin, violinists Norbert Brainin, Siegmund Nissel and Peter Schidlof (later violist) were driven out of Vienna after Hitler's Anschluss of 1938. Brainin and Schidlof met in a British internment camp on the Isle of Man; many Jewish refugees had the misfortune of being confined by the British as enemy aliens upon seeking refuge in the UK. Brainin was released after a few months, but Schidlof remained in the camp, where he met Nissel. Finally Schidlof and Nissel were released, and the three of them were able to study with violin teacher Max Rostal, who taught them free of charge. It was through Rostal that they met cellist Martin Lovett, and in 1947 they formed the Brainin Quartet, which was renamed the Amadeus Quartet in 1948. [Wikipedia]

  • Launching the Renaissance

    14:28

    - What does one do when the state is corrupt, and the masses are apathetic? Where does change then actually come from? Friedrich Schiller found a really fantastic response: that it can only happen through classical art.

    This preview of an upcoming DVD (The Classical Revolution) features Helga Zepp-LaRouche (president of the Schiller Institute), tenor Raymond Björling (grandson of Jussi Björling), economist and statesman Lyndon LaRouche, Maestro Daniel Lipton, Harley Schlanger (vice president of the Schiller Institute in the U.S.), Norbert Brainin (1923-2005, first violinist of the Amadeus Quartet), and baritone William Warfield (1920-2002), in a discussion on the following topics:

    * Launching the Renaissance
    * Bel canto: The Art of Beautiful Singing
    * The Magic of Music and Counterpoint
    * The Rediscovery of Motivführung
    * The Artists: Bringing Humanity Forward
    * Behind the Notes

    7:12

    This video explains about the Camerata Asolo project of the Norbert Brainin Foundation.
    Our centuries-old tradition of live classical music is in serious peril. For generations, the classical performer's art has been nurtured and developed through apprenticeship, where master musicians handed down their wisdom and knowledge to exceptionally talented pupils. Now, in our fast-moving materialistic age, the vital musical heritage that civilisation has developed over hundreds of years is at risk of being lost forever.

    The Norbert Brainin Foundation has been established to preserve, protect and foster this precious tradition for future generations.

    3 Cuartetos para Piano, WoO 36
    Descripción de John Palmer [-]
    Los tres cuartetos WoO 36, escritos cuando el compositor tenía 14 años, se encuentran entre las composiciones tempranas más importantes de Beethoven. De hecho, son tan tempranas que la partitura autógrafa requiere clavecin en lugar de piano. El mismo manuscrito dice basso en lugar de violonchelo, con las piezas ordenadas Do mayor, Mi bemol mayor y Re mayor. Las piezas no fueron impresas hasta 1828, en Viena, en el orden Mi bemol, Re y Do. El material del Trío en Do mayor se utilizó posteriormente en las sonatas para piano Op. 2 Nº 1 ( y Op. 2 Nº 3 ( Estas son las únicas obras que Beethoven compuso para este conjunto (cuarteto para piano), que abandonó tras mudarse a Viena.

    De niño, Beethoven había sido influenciado musicalmente principalmente por Christian Gottlob Neefe (1748-98), compositor y uno de los primeros maestros de música de Beethoven; Abbé Franz Sterkel (1750-1817), uno de los pianistas más importantes de Europa y Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. De todas estas infuencias, la de Neefe fue la más inmediata y la de Mozart la más profunda. Cada uno de los tres cuartetos con piano WoO 36 se beneficia de una sonata para violín específica de Mozart, del conjunto publicado en 1781. El primero de los cuartetos de Beethoven se basa en K. 379/373a, el segundo en K. 380/374f y el tercero en K. 296. Los tres cuartetos WoO 36 constan de tres movimientos.

    El cuarteto Nº 1 en Mi bemol mayor ( es inusual en que su lento movimiento de introducción salta sin pausa a un Allegro con spirito en mi bemol menor. El movimiento en Mi bemol menor, en forma sonata, presenta un pequeño desarrollo, pero contiene algunos pasajes aventureros en la recapitulación. El movimiento final es un conjunto de seis variaciones en un estilo ornamental sobre un tema de la alta era clásica con dos segmentos de ocho compases. Cada uno de los segmentos se repite, el primero moviendo a la dominante y el segundo retornando a la tónica. Beethoven sigue este patrón en todas las variaciones, la quinta de las cuales está en mi bemol menor. Después de que las variaciones hayan seguido su curso, el tema retorna, solo ligeramente retocado, seguido de una coda que recuerda la primera variación. A lo largo de la obra, el piano lleva la iniciativa.

    Beethoven lanzó el cuarteto Nº 2 en Re mayor ( en un formato tradicional, con un movimiento lento central encerrado entre dos movimientos rápidos. El Allegro de apertura está en forma sonata y modula a la dominante. Alardeando de una sección de desarrollo mucho más larga que la del cuarteto en Mi bemol mayor, el movimiento suena en re menor antes de la recapitulación. El segundo movimiento, en fa sostenido menor, consta de dos partes y está marcado Andante con moto. El piano abre el Rondó final, un movimiento de energía juvenil dominado por la parte del teclado.

    El cuarteto Nº 3 en Do mayor también consta de tres movimientos, el segundo de los cuales está en un relajado Fa mayor. Tras una breve sección de desarrollo, Beethoven comienza la recapitulación en la subdominante, un procedimiento que Schubert usaría en varias de sus obras. El segundo movimiento presenta algunos de los pasajes melódicos más convincentes de la juventud de Beethoven, aunque su tendencia a duplicar la mayoría de éstos les roba algo de su delicadeza. Casi todo el material temático en el Rondó de cierre se concentra en la parte del piano.
