    I'M SAYIN' I'M SORRY
    NEIL DIAMOND

I'm sitting up here and drinkin'
She's sittin' down there and thinkin'
Got on her tape of Evita Perona
    And my Smith Corona
    Keeps saying I'm sorry
    I'm saying I'm sorry
    And then I'm saying goodnight

She's sittin' up there and fumin'
    She thinks I'm something inhuman
She'd rather be with Paul Newman
    I know her
    And my Smith Corona
    Keeps saying I'm sorry
    I'm saying I'm sorry
    And then I'm saying goodnight
    Good Night
    Good Night

Baby, you know that I love you
    All right
    Gonna be alright
    Let's call it a lesson we've learned

    She's not an easy forgiver
Could throw myself in the river
She send me back do it once more
    An encore and what's more
    Use the back door

    Well, I'm saying I'm sorry
    I'm saying I'm sorry
    And then I'm saying goodnight
    Good Night
    Good Night

Baby, you know that I love you
    All right
    Gonna be alright
Just call it a lesson we've learned

She's sitting up there and waitin'
    Hey dummy quit hesitating
Take off that tape of Evita Perona
    Turn off that corona
    And tell her you're sorry
    I'm saying I'm sorry

    And then I'm saying goodnight
    And then I'm saying goodnight
    And then I'm saying goodnight

Forever in Blue Jeans is a song by Neil Diamond which was co-written with his guitarist Richard Bennett. This up-tempo track, released as a single by Columbia in February 1979, was taken from the previous year's Neil Diamond album You Don't Bring Me Flowers.

According to Cotton Incorporated Neil Diamond might have been right when he named his 1979 #1 hit Forever in Blue Jeans: 81% of women are planning their next jeans purchase to be some shade of blue. [1] The song, needless to say, has been used to promote the sale of blue jeans, most notably Will Ferrell, impersonating Neil Diamond singing, for The Gap.

You Don't Bring Me Flowers is an album by Neil Diamond released in 1978 to capitalize on the success of the title song, a duet with Barbra Streisand, which had originally appeared as a solo recording on Diamond's previous album, I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight.

    NEIL DIAMOND CENTRAL WEBSITE -

DEDICATED TO NEIL AND HIS BEAUTIFUL AND LOVING WIFE, KATIE.

“I always thought that this would make a good title for an autobiography, but as a songwriter, I was drawn to try it as a song and save all the work involved in writing a book. Well, I learned that a song is one thing and a book is another. I guess I’ll have to write the book now.” - ND

    THE STORY OF MY LIFE
    NEIL DIAMOND
    The story of my life
    Is very plain to read
It starts the day you came
And ends the day you leave

    The story of my life
    Begins and ends with you
The names are still the same
And the story's still the truth

    I was alone
    You found me waiting
    And made me your own
    I was afraid
That somehow I never could be
The man that you wanted of me

You're the story of my life,
    And every word is true
    Each chapter sings your name
    Each page begins with you

It's the story of our times
    And never letting go
    And if I die today,
    I wanted you to know

    Stay with me here
Share with me, care with me
    Stay and be near
    And when it began
    I'd lie awake every night
    Just knowing somewhere deep inside
That our affair just might write

    The story of my life
    Is very plain to read
It starts the day you came
It ends the day you leave

Song sung blue, every garden grows one

    You sing 'em out again
    You sing 'em out again

Song sung blue, weeping like a willow
Song sung blue, sleeping on my pillow
    Funny thing,
But you can sing it with a cry in your voice
And before you know it get to feeling good
    You simply got no choice

    NEIL DIAMOND'S SIGNATURE SONG

Did you ever read about a frog
Who dreamed of bein' a king
    And then became one
    Well except for the names
    And a few other changes
    If you talk about me
    The story's the same one

'I Am... I Said', took four months to complete. I knew it had great potential and I was unwilling to accept anything but the raw truth in the lyric. It was a daily battle to put this song and those sentiments on paper, but when it was done, it turned out the be one of the most satisfying songs I had ever written. It was nominated for a Grammy and still gives me chills when I perform it. - ND

THE CHAIR: The chair is a reference to the psychiatrist's chair. Diamond battled with this song for 4 months following a near-breakdown after divorce and a move from New York to Los Angeles.

His failure to land the part of Lenny Bruce in the movie ‘Lenny’, left him close to breaking point and Diamond was depressed. Diamond eventually took a 4-year sabbatical from performing after his landmark appearance at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1972.

'I Am... I Said' has a far deeper meaning than most casual listeners imagine. The song is a masterpiece by a great songwriter. By his own admission, Diamond spent months in psychotherapy and this song explains wonderfully his thoughts and feelings at the time. In Gestalt therapy, a patient projects his thoughts into an empty chair while a counsellor looks on making notes. This may well explain the meaning of the word chair. It is too easy to dismiss the 'chair' as a trite attempt to make a rhyme, but Diamond is nothing but meticulous in his lyric writing and he has said that 'I Am... I Said' underwent countless rewrites until it said exactly what he wanted it to say. Diamond no doubt felt so alone and alienated that he must have felt that no-one was listening to his tortured cries... not even the (psychoanalyst's) chair.

'I Am... I Said', this is the most difficult song Neil has ever written because of its deeply personal emotions. It was a daily battle for Neil to write this song and his sentiments on paper. It is a very complicated song, which tells of feelings lost, full of questions, doubts and insecurities. The lyrics reflect a need to return home, to return to one's roots and original security of life, while realizing that one can never go back because time changes things. Neil considers this song as the best song he has ever written. And myriads of devotees around the world would agree with his opinion. It took Neil 4 months to complete this song although he spent many hours each day, seven days a week on it, writing essays about his feelings to finally form each line of lyrics describing loneliness. Song writing was a compulsion for young Neil. As with any creative endeavor, songwriting is a personal reflection of the writer. Neil Diamond was alone because he wanted to be be alone, he was afraid of having people come too close to him as he didn't have much self-confidence at the time when he wrote 'I Am'.. I Said'. - Prof. Dr Karin Thieme

    I AM... I SAID
    Neil Diamond

L.A.'s fine, the sun shines most the time
And the feeling is lay back
Palm trees grow and rents are low
But you know I keep thinkin' about
    Making my way back

Well I'm New York City born and raised
    But nowadays,
    I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
    New York's home,
But it ain't mine no more

    I am... I said
    To no one there
And no one heard at all
    Not even the chair
    I am ... I cried, I am ... said I
    And I am lost and I can't
    Even say why
    Leavin' me lonely still

Did you ever read about a frog
Who dreamed of bein' a king
    And then became one
    Well except for the names
    And a few other changes
    If you talk about me
    The story's the same one

But I got an emptiness deep inside
    And I've tried
But it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
    But I never cared
For the sound of being alone

    I am... I said
    To no one there
And no one heard at all
    Not even the chair
    I am... I cried
    I am... said I
    And I am lost and I can't

He knocked them dead. One of the greatest albums ever made. Neil came through a cloud of smoke and the audience just exploded. It was the first time I saw him confident on stage. That was chemistry. Hot August Night was the big turning point. Lyrics:
Where it began, I can't begin to knowing
But then I know it's growing strong
    Was in the spring
    Then spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along
    Hands, touching hands
Reaching out, touching me, touching you
    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
    I'd be inclined
    To believe they never would
    But now I
Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely
We filled it up with only two
    And when I hurt
    Hurting runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm holding you
    One, touching one
Reaching out, touching me, touching you
    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
    I'd be inclined
    To believe they never would
    Oh no, no
    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good

  • Neil Diamond Cherry Cherry Lyrics

    2:42

Cherry, Cherry is a song written, composed and recorded by Neil Diamond. The song was arranged by Artie Butler and produced by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. It was issued as a 45 single in 1966 and became Diamond's first big hit, reaching #6 on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart, in October 1966, and the Cash Box chart. Worldwide sales were said to have reached over one million copies. Ellie Greenwich came up with the chorus and can be heard as the prominent background voice. Diamond has stated that the song was inspired by an early relationship with a significantly older woman.
In 1973 a live recording of Cherry, Cherry was issued as a 45 single from the Neil Diamond live album Hot August Night (1972). The live version hit #24 on the Cash Box chart and #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Rolling Stone would later label Cherry, Cherry as one of the greatest three-chord songs of all time.
Session guitarist Al Gorgoni (who later played on The Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel and Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison) contributed to the song.
Two versions of Cherry, Cherry have been released. The version familiar to most listeners was released by Bang Records in 1966, and was recorded as a demo, with Butler on keyboards, and Greenwich on backing vocals. The other version, with different lyrics and originally intended to be released as the single, was finally released by Diamond and Sony Music Entertainment in 1996 on the compilation album In My Lifetime.

    Written by: Neil Diamond

    Where it began
    I can't begin to knowin'
But then I know its growin' strong

    Was in the spring
    And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along

    Hands, touchin' hands
    Reachin' out
    Touchin' me
    Touchin' you

    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
    I've been inclined
    To believe they never would

    But now I
    Look at the night
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
    And when I hurt
    Hurtin' runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm with you

    Warm, touchin' warm
    Reachin' out
    Touchin' me
    Touchin' me

    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
    I've been inclined
    To believe they never would
    Oh, no, no

    Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
    I've been inclined
    I believed they never could
    Sweet Caroline

Sweet Caroline is a pop song written and performed by Neil Diamond and officially released on September 16, 1969, as a single. There are three distinct mixes of this song. The original mono 45 mix had a loud orchestra and glockenspiel compared to the stereo version on the Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show LP. The third version was a remix found only on the initial CD release of Neil Diamond's His 12 Greatest Hits. This version has the orchestra mixed down very noticeably and has the background vocals mixed up. It has a longer fade as well. The song reached #4 on the Billboard chart and eventually went platinum for sales of one million singles.

In the fall of 1969, Diamond performed Sweet Caroline on several television shows. It later reached #8 on the UK singles chart in 1971. In a 2007 interview, Diamond revealed after many decades that the inspiration for Sweet Caroline was President John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline Kennedy, who was eleven years old at the time. Diamond sang the song to her at her 50th birthday celebration in 2007.
