    Lyrics:

    ‘New Mexico (Kind of Thing)’
written by: Chad Raymon and Billy Dawson
    Performed by: Billy Dawson

    VERSE 1:
    Ancient Zia sun
Gotta come and get us some
Of that air there on your porch

    Yeah call up Kokopelli
Tell him we’re on the way way
To spend some time at his resort

    PRE-CHORUS:
    Like the hummingbird flies
    We'll cross the state line
    Well I'll tell you
    Don’t mind if I do

    CHORUS:
    Light a swisher sweet
    Roll up my jeans
And dip one foot in a Cimmaron stream
With the one I love parked next to me
Sitting there like a dream eating Minnie’s ice cream
On the way to Taos we’ll overload them speaks
With a little bitta little Michael Martin Murphey
    Without a doubt
I’m where I wanna to be
    Doing this New Mexico
Doing this New Mexico kind of thing

    VERSE 2:
    Gonna get lost
In the red and green sauce
    And a lot of guacamole

    We'll thank the good Lord
For the drinks that are being poured
    Underneath this green pine tree

    And for the...

    PRE-CHORUS:
    Stuffed sopapilla
    Who wouldn’t wanna eat ya
    Well I want to
    Don’t mind if I do

    Chorus repeat

    BRIDGE:
The best smellin' wood in the world is pinon
    But that's just my opinion
I'm gonna start an Angel Fire with my circle of enchanted friends
Yeah with all their different shades of skin

    Chorus 3:
    Light a swisher sweet
    Roll up my jeans
And dip one foot in a Cimmaron stream
There's a chipmunk sitting next to me
    Just a blowin' off steam
    With two full cheeks
And on the way to Taos we’ll overload them speaks
With a little bit a little Michael Martin Murphey
    Without a doubt
I’m where I wanna to be

    TAG:
And come December I’ll be back here to ski

Doing this New Mexico, doing this New Mexico kind of thing

    OUTRO:
    Headed for the hills
Time to turn off the cell
    Gonna gonna get my fill
No it ain't like nothing else
    New Mexico True
    It's good for the soul
Me and all my NM crew
Yeah yeah yeah we all know
We'll stop by and see my kin
    Up there in Eagle Nest
And with a show of hands
    Who wants some Sundance?!
    Cause I do!
    And hey...
Who wants to stop on the way to Red River to see the dragon

  • Feels Like Home

    3:38

The Albuquerque-based band Richmond unveils the official music video for their song Feels Like Home (New Mexico True).
*available on iTunes - just search for Richmond, or here's a link:

Richmond is Nate Boitano and Heath Warren.
The video depicts the summer-long New Mexico adventures of the musical pair and their friends. It shows them exploring many of the state's treasures, and includes scenes from places and adventures they would like to experience in the future. And it's all set to a catchy song the duo wrote about the land they love.
Feels Like Home (New Mexico True) has served as the catchy background tune for numerous TV and radio ads all across the state. The New Mexico Tourism Department first used the song in its own ads, and several communities have since followed suit.
Nate and Heath first gained a measure of fame as members of the popular Albuquerque band Asper Kourt. They have been friends, neighbors and musical partners since their childhood.
This is from the duo's Facebook page:
Fate, destiny, or guided wind? Call it what you want. But this songwriting duo was born to make music together. Richmond is an acoustic brotherhood made up of two lifelong best friends and next door neighbors. Growing up playing sports, catching lizards, and mastering their musical craft, Nate Boitano and Heath Warren are leaving their marks on the music scene with a whole new approach.

    5:36

1958 I got an autograph by Roy Orbison after playing a concert in Clovis. He inspired me to be in music and I signed a recording contract with Norman Petty in 1960. I first heard Blue Bayou when I was leaving for college at UNM in 61.  In 1998 I recorded an instrumental version with my band New Mexico: The Sound of Enchantment. That was 22 years ago. I put a vocal on it last week and I think this song is a great combination of all the things I've accomplished in the state I still love!

    Driving down New Mexico
Listen to the songs we know
    Strange how the meanings change
When the light comes shining through
    Underneath an orange sky
I tell you we'll be alright
But it just don't feel the same
    I won't lie to you

We can say let's just start over again
But we can't deny that we've changed

Somehow it just feels like the end of the road
But I don't wanna give up it's you that I love
You think that It'll work if we give it one more try?
By the time we see the sign
    We’ll know
    New Mexico

    Looks like we're almost there
    Eyes in the rearview mirror
It feels weird to be back here
    I remember this
    Right there the liquor store
We should go and get one more
That's what we used to do
    But it's not like before

We can say let's just start over again
But we can't deny that we've changed

Somehow it just feels like the end of the road
But I don't wanna give up it's you that I love
You think that it'll work if we give it one more try?
By the time we see the sign
    We’ll know
    New Mexico
