    Pussycat - Mississippi 1975

Where you can hear a country song from far
and someone plays the honky-tonk guitar
Where all the lights will go out one by one
    the people join the sun
and the wind takes it away

Where the Mississippi rolls down to the sea
and lovers found a place they'd like to be
how many times before the song was ending
    love and understanding
    everywhere around

    Mississippi, I'll remember you
    whenever I should go away
I'll be longing for the day
that I will be in Greenville again

Mississippi, you'll be on my mind
    everytime I hear this song
    Mississippi roll along
    until the end of time

Now the country song for ever lost its soul
when the guitar player turned to rock and roll
and everytime when summernights are falling
I always will be calling dreams of yesterday

    Mississippi, I'll remember you
    whenever I should go away
I'll be longing for the day
that I will be in Greenville again

Mississippi, you'll be on my mind
    everytime I hear this song
    Mississippi roll along
    until the end of time

    Everytime I hear this song
    Mississippi roll along
    until the end of time.

    (Instrumental)

  • Mississippi - Pussycat - Instrumental cover by Dave Monk

    4:36

Mississippi was a popular single by Dutch group Pussycat which consisted of three sisters Betty, Marianne and Toni Kowalczyk of which Toni (now Toni Willé) was the lead vocalist. The song was the sole number one single for Pussycat.
Werner Theunissen wrote Mississippi in 1969 being inspired by the Bee Gees song Massachusetts.
By December 1975, the song became a massive hit seller at the number one position in the Dutch charts, followed by its international success. It is estimated to have sold five million copies worldwide.
WayneL92 requested this wonderful, happy tune.
So, here is my version. I hope you like it. Dave and Dave

This one for them hood girls
    Them good girls
    Straight masterpieces
    Stylin', wiling
Livin' it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself I'm so pretty

    I'm too hot (hot damn)
Call the police and the fireman
    I'm too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire, man
    I'm too hot (hot damn)
Say my name you know who I am
    I'm too hot (hot damn)
And my band 'bout that money

'Cause uptown funk gon' give it to you

    Don't believe me just watch
    Hey, hey, hey, oh!

    Stop
    Wait a minute
Fill my cup put some liquor in it
Take a sip, sign the check
    Julio, get the stretch!
Ride to Harlem, Hollywood, Jackson, Mississippi
If we show up, we gon' show out
Smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy

    I'm too hot (hot damn)

    3:44

Zach Day was born in Jackson, raised in Greenville and now resides in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Day is totally self-taught as a musician in all aspects including guitar, vocals, song writing, performing and business. He has developed a style that is so raw with Delta Blues and Texas Country that he dubbed his unique sound as Cotton Country. Even with over 20 original songs recorded, Day's best work can still only be heard through his unforgettable live performances. His performances know no boundaries, including state or international lines. Day primarily performs around his home state of Mississippi, but he has also played around Texas, Nashville, Alabama and Colorado. Most recently, he completed a 10 week tour of eastern Canada covering over 7,000 miles and playing over 30 live shows.

With his first studio produced album Mississippi Heat getting attention around the globe, the film industry has also gotten on board featuring two songs off the album Smoke Rises Again and Gonna Know My Name in the Indie films Dont Come Around Here and the soon to be released documentary Dixie Mafia. You can expect to experience a majority of original work when hearing Day perform, but he also covers everything from Hank Williams Sr. to the Allman Brothers Band.
Zach is also a selected member of the Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Roster.

  • African-American Fife & Drum Music: Mississippi & Jamaica

    1:14

This is archival (?which) footage of a fife and drum group of Ed and Lonnie Young of Mississippi. I believe it was recorded by Alan Lomax, sometime between 1959 and the early 60s. They use a fife made of cane, and drums adapted from military bands.

It is interesting how similar it is, not just in form but also in actual content, to the fife and drum playing of John Canoe processional music of Jamaica. I have put just a quick sample of that from a 1954 recording, at the end.

[My purpose for posting is to draw out this comparison, which would probably not be noticed otherwise (the clip being buried in Martin Scorcese's documentary on Blues), but if it appears to infringe someone's copyright, please contact me.]

EDIT: This footage was shot during the 1966 Newport Folk Festival, indeed by Alan Lomax. Ed Young plays the fife; Lonnie Young, Sr., the snare; and G.D. Young, the bass drum. Lomax's audio recordings from Newport '66, including those of the Youngs, are available through the online archive of the Association for Cultural Equity (Alan Lomax Archive). - AlanLomaxArchive

  • CD: Beňa & Ptaszek: Music of the Mississippi River

    4:34

English version: New album Music of the Mississippi River will be out in February under label Stormy Monday Records in Germany.

After two year's since the successful live recording at Mirov prison: Beňa & Ptaszek v kriminále, we are happy to announce a new studio album entitled Music of the Mississippi River.

This year the duo celebrates 5 years performing together in the Czech, Slovakia and Europe stages. An Interesting point of this album is that there are not any classic 12 bar blues, which is known from other bands. A Slovak guitar player Lubos Bena and Czech singer and harp player Matej Ptaszek went deeper under waters of the old Mississippi river. Their inspiration was found in cotton fields in the state of Mississippi, in the native gospel and country-gospel singers from Alabama or in authentic bluegrass artist from the Appalachian mountains.

Inside albums are use nearly omit all harp skills and except of resophonic guitar sound is in album sound of acoustic guitar and uses special instrument make from the oil can. In some songs are use of drums.

Listeners can listen to the primitive arrangement from The Animals; The House of The Rising Sun, well-known song Goodnight Irene, country evergreen On A Monday, which was made famous by Johnny Cash, or traditional John Henry. All songs are in a version, as arising in the Mississippi delta or at the foot hills of the Appalachia mountains.

I said I was promised (felt like praying)
Oh I was in heaven (felt like praying)
I felt like singing (felt like praying)
I felt like singing (felt like praying)
I'm gonna sing to Jesus (felt like praying)

I feel like praying in here (felt like singing)
The Bible says (felt like praying)
    That everything (felt like singing)
That can be read (felt like singing)
Praise the Lord (felt like singing)
Oh, sing it (felt like singing)
Oh, sing it (felt like singing)
Choir, let's sing with Him (felt like singing)
One more thing (felt like singing)
I Felt like running (felt like running)
I Felt like running (felt like running)
Oh, I'm gonna run for Jesus (felt like running)

One more thing (felt like running)
One more thing (felt like running)
I felt like shouting (felt like shouting)
I was gonna shout the words (felt like shouting)
    But I can't contain it(felt like shouting
'Cause he took all these knots from us (felt like shouting)
Come on and shout (felt like shouting)
Come on and (felt like shouting)
On now, come on y'all (felt like shouting)
    (Felt like shouting)
Oh, halleluja, halleluja (felt like shouting)

    Oh, halleluja (felt like shouting)
    (Felt like shouting)
    (Felt like shouting)
He'll take care of me (oh, why don't you trust Him?)
He'll provide for me (He's trustworthy)
He'll take care of me (He'll never leave you)
He'll provide for me (and He will never forsake you)
Feel His kindly glow (hey, hey, hey)
For, for Him (oh yeah, yeah, yeah)
