  • Material Issue interview and acoustic songs

    12:54

I came across a cassette with this interview of Material Issue on WRAS (Album 88) in Atlanta. This was recorded in 1991 when they were touring for the International Pop Overthrow album. I wish I had recorded all the talking between the songs but only recorded some of it. They also played the studio recordings of Trouble and I go Crazy during the interview. My wife and I went to see them that night at the Cotton Club in Atlanta. It was a great show of course and we were right up front sitting at a table if I remember correctly. For this movie I just pointed a camera at the old cassette player and played the 22 year old cassette and it sounds like crap but that's history for you. I hope you Material Issue fans enjoy this. It's apparent that Jim Ellison had a sense of humor when you hear him talk about what inspired them to write a couple of the songs. They were a great band and Jim Ellison was one of the best frontmen ever.

    R.I.P. JE.

NOTE: I do not own the rights to any of these songs and they are played straight from a promotional recording from a radio station.

We twisted the arm of good friend Bill Latas to join us for this throwback tune for this edition of our quarantine covers. Bill is one half of the wall of guitars in Perpetual Change and former front man of acclaimed KC band, Outhouse, and we were lucky enough to get him to play guitar and sing on this one.

This power pop throwback from the early 90s by Material Issue also caused us to dust off the Gibson Explorers - thanks for joining us Bill!

    Have a great week!

    Cheers! #QuarantineCovers #Quarantunes

  • Material Issue retrospective! Exclusive Jim Ellison clips!

    14:54

The Legend Of Jim Ellison, Material Issue's singer, guitarist, songwriter and motivator. With Mike Zelenko (drums) & Ted Ansani (bass & vocals), Ellison launched a three man assault on the national music market from home base Chicago. A record deal with Mercury resulted in three classic punk pop records, but the massive mega-hit eluded them, as it does with most who try. Sadly, Jim took his own life. But his legend lives on,in style, in heart & in rock n roll attitude, but mostly in the songs. Material Issue lives on! Produced by Lou Hinkhouse for thePulseChicago.com

  • Renee remains the same - Material Issue

    3:21

Renee remains the same by Material Issue.
    From International pop Overthrow (1991)

Is she goin' out tonight, is she wearin' your shirt,
    is she driving your car.
She was the one who was most likely to,
but she never got through and she never got far.
And if we look at her yearbook picture,
I'm sure we'll see a face that looks a lot like now.
She always wanted to be accepted.
She was only rejected anyhow. And...

    Renee remains the same.
    Renee she'll never change.
    She's the same.

Is she leavin' the house tonight,
is she carrying your keys as she waves goodbye?
He was the one who was most likely to,
but he never got her through and they barely made it by. But if we look at her family picture,
I'm sure we'll see a face that looks a lot like now.
I always wanted to get her attention,
    I only got rejection anyhow.

    Renee remains the same.
    Renee she'll never change.
    She's the same.

Is she takin' your house tonight,
is she lookin' through your eyes as she says goodbye.
You were the one that was gonna make her happy,
    you only made her cry.
But if you look at her yearbook picture,
I'm sure we'll se a face that looks a lot like now.
I only wanted to get her affection,
    I only got rejection, anyhow.

    Renee remains the same.
    Renee she'll never change.
    She's the same.
