    Paradise Circus Lyrics

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
we can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
oh where the devil makes us sin
but we like it when we're spinning in his grip.

Love is like a sin my love

For the one that feels it the most
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you, again

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm
we can roll ourselves over when we're uncomfortable
oh well the devil makes us sin
but we like it when we're spinning in his grip.

Love is like a sin my love

For the one that feels it the most
Look at her with a smile like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you, again

The EP was written and produced by Massive Attack’s Robert del Naja and long-term studio collaborator Euan Dickinson. A second Massive Attack EP, written and co-produced by Daddy G, will be released in the spring, with an album to follow later in the year.

    ‘Ritual Spirit’ EP track list:

    1. Dead Editors (Massive Attack & Roots Manuva)
    2. Ritual Spirit (Massive Attack & Azekel)
    3. Voodoo In My Blood (Massive Attack & Young Fathers)

To mark the EP release, Massive Attack have today premiered this brand new video for ‘Take It There’. Directed by Hiro Murai and starring Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes.

The release of the ‘Ritual Spirit’ EP follows the launch of Massive Attack’s ‘Fantom’ app last week. More information on Fantom at

Meanwhile, Massive are currently touring the UK and Europe. The new live show is designed by Robert del Naja and long time visual collaborators United Visual Artists, with support coming from Young Fathers.

  • Hope Sandoval w. Massive Attack + Burial - FOUR WALLS

    12:00

A song originally found on a limited edition vinyl e.p. of 1,000 numbered copies released October 2011. This recording of it comes from a digital source recording Massive Attack once made available via their site.

Hope sings lead. She also co-wrote the song, writing lyrics and vocal melody. It's called Four Walls 'cause Hope's lyrics include that phrase. We know she co-wrote it partly 'cause some sites cite her as co-writer, and also 'cause that's the way she's said she works with Massive Attack. They send her a music track and she writes lyrics & melody and records it. She said in an interview there are a number of collabs she's done with Massive Attack (aside from Four Walls, Paradise Circus, and The Spoils,) which have not yet ever been released.

Here's Hope's verbatim QUOTE: Massive Attack and I have written a lot of songs together. I don't know how many already. The group sends me ideas occasionally and asks me if I can add a vocal melody and lyrics, and that's what happened with 'The Spoils'. (Hope from a JNSP interview, Nov. 3, 2016)

Somehow, this 2011 release flew under my radar for 6 years despite it being a popular yt upload at other Channels. But the Channels where the song's popular leave Hope uncredited on it. Her name is not even mentioned there.

I hadn't heard Four Walls till a youtuber tipped me off to it today. I think someone else may have tried to tell me about the song a few years back but fear I wrongly thought they were referring only to Burial's remix of Paradise Circus. I didn't clue in that there was a second song. The e.p. with Four Walls also contained Burial's remix of Massive Attack's Paradise Circus, which Hope also appears on and co-wrote. Burial is the stage name of London electronic musician William Emmanuel Bevan.

Most of the photos of Hope in the slide show are by Hope's (& my) fave photographer of Hope pics, Luz Gallardo.
    ...............................................................................
FOUR WALLS (lyrics via oldielyrics.com + some attempted corrections by me)

They know that I can't settle down
They know but they won't keep me in line, in line
They know that I'll always let them
They know that I'm not that brave
They know that I can't settle down
They know but they won't keep me in line, in line, in line

These four walls have eyes, got lost on the way
They'll own me a while till he thinks that way, till

    In line
    Last they've killed the light
    Don't they save deep pain
    Happiness can lie
    Remembering all those times
    We always wait

In line, in line, in line till we're lost, I forgot

  • Massive Attack - Pray For Rain

    6:45

Massive Attack are an English trip hop group formed in 1988 in Bristol, consisting of Robert 3D Del Naja, Grant Daddy G Marshall and formerly Andy Mushroom Vowles (Mush). Their debut album Blue Lines was released in 1991, with the single Unfinished Sympathy reaching the charts and later being voted the 63rd greatest song of all time in a poll by NME. 1998's Mezzanine, containing Teardrop, and 2003's 100th Window charted in the UK at number one. Both Blue Lines and Mezzanine feature in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The group has won numerous music awards throughout their career, including a Brit Award—winning Best British Dance Act, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and two Q Awards. They have released five studio albums that have sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

DJs Daddy G and Andrew Vowles and graffiti artist-turned-rapper Robert Del Naja met as members of partying collective The Wild Bunch. One of the first homegrown soundsystems in the UK, The Wild Bunch became dominant on the Bristol club scene in the mid-1980s.

Massive Attack started as a spin-off production trio in 1988, with the independently released song, Any Love, sung by falsetto-voiced singer-songwriter Carlton McCarthy, and then, with considerable backing from Neneh Cherry, they signed to Circa Records in 1990 – committing to deliver six studio albums and a best of compilation. Circa became a subsidiary of, and was later subsumed into, Virgin Records, which in turn was acquired by EMI. Blue Lines (1991), was co-produced by Jonny Dollar and Cameron McVey, who also became their first manager. Geoff Barrow, who went on to form Portishead, was an intern and trainee tape operator at Bristol's Coach House studio when the album was recorded. McVey (credited at the time as 'Booga Bear') and his wife, Neneh Cherry, provided crucial financial support and in-kind assistance to the early careers of Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky during this period, even paying regular wages to them through their Cherry Bear Organisation. Massive Attack used guest vocalists, interspersed with Del Naja and Marshall's (initially Tricky's) own sprechgesang stylings, on top of what became regarded as an essentially British creative sampling production; a trademark sound that fused down-tempo hip hop, soul, reggae and other eclectic references, musical and lyrical.

In the nineties, the trio became known for often not being able to easily get along with one another and working increasingly separately. Andy Vowles (Mushroom), who had once thought of himself as the trio's musical director, acrimoniously left Massive Attack in late 1999, after an ultimatum from the other two members to end the group immediately if he did not. Despite having taken Del Naja's side in the effective firing of Vowles and then participating in a show-of-unity webcast as a duo the following year, Grant Marshall (G) had also effectively left by 2001 in that he abandoned the studio altogether. Marshall returned to a studio role in 2005, having joined the touring line-up in 2003 and 2004.

    Shotty's Classic Series #17:

Massive Attack's debut Blue Lines practically invented trip-hop, and by 1998's Mezzanine, they'd perfected the songcraft. Overshadowed by the album's one-two-three-four punch of songs right at the beginning, Black Milk is an excellent mid-tempo lurker that's carried out of the darkness by Cocteau Twin Elizabeth Frazer's sensual vocals.
