    ABOUT MARC GUNN, THE CELTFATHER

Irish drinking songs and science fiction. Nowhere else but from the bizarre imagination of Marc Gunn would those elements be so neatly integrated. KILTED FOR HER PLEASURE
Kilted Celtic comedy music for the playfully demented Celtic music fan

Kilts make people happy. Maybe it’s the speculation about what’s under them, or the thrill that everyone experiences – Scots or not – when they hear Highland pipes and see kilts a-swirling.
No matter – this CD is packed with comedic Celtic music that will make you laugh out loud. Allow Marc Gunn – the Godfather of Celtic music on line – to ensure that you will have lots to laugh about.
Sit back, pour a glass of something adult, and get ready to guffaw.
Decked out in Scotland’s finest, I was leaving a pub show one night when a pretty young lass eyed me greedily. She was dressed in a tight-fitting leather corset that made her swell beautifully. She smiled suspiciously. I could tell what she had on her mind. It wasn’t my music.
Just then, her boyfriend walked up and planted a big kiss on her cheek. She paused, still eying me, before turning and kissing him back.
That was it. I knew why I wear the kilt. Yes, I like how I feel in it and I love showing the Clan Gunn colours to the world. But ultimately, that’s not why I wear the kilt. It’s that dark-eyed glance that made me feel like a man, and a sexy one at that.
Some years later, I decided to show my love with a T-shirt and a CD that say the same–Kilted For Her Pleasure. This fun album of Kilted Celtic comedy music is now on sale.

  • Wherever I May Roam - Marc Gunn

    3:08

Wherever I May Roam is a fun upbeat call and response song. It's the story of my life and my wonderful, loving family, set in three stages.

The first was my single life. I was constantly looking for love and not finding it.

The second tells the story of how I was able to break through and learn to love. By doing so, I met the woman of my dreams and married.

The bridge tells the story of our adventures together, traveling to London, living in New Orleans, and visiting the cold, wet of Ireland on another trip. We've had lots of trips together and the journey is just beginning.

The final verse is the life I dreamed of, with a beautiful wife to share adventures with and to have a baby to also join out adventures.

I love this song from the stories to the catchy melody to the upbeat fun rhythm. It's beautiful.

Wherever I May Roam will be released on a new album in 2014.

  • Whiskey in the Jar - Marc Gunn - St Patricks Day Irish Pub Song

    3:21

Whiskey in the Jar is the first St. Patrick's Day Irish pub song off Marc Gunn's first release of 2013, Not Every Day Is St. Patrick's Day. My St. Patrick's Day CD features 20 tracks of Celtic songs. While Whiskey in the Jar is a great traditional Irish drinking song, it was probably made most famous by Thin Lizzy and then by Metallica. I learned it from a great album of Irish Drinking Songs and made it my own. It's foot stomping, hand clapping fun!

The album comes out two months before St. Patrick's Day on January 17, 2013. You can find out more about Marc Gunn at

    WHISKEY IN THE JAR LYRICS

    words and music traditional

As I was going over the far famed Kerry mountains
I met with captain Farrell and his money he was counting.
I first produced my pistol, and then produced my rapier.
Said stand and deliver, for I am a bold deceiver,

musha ring dumma do damma da
    whack for the daddy 'ol
    whack for the daddy 'ol
    there's whiskey in the jar

I counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny.
I put it in my pocket and I took it home to Jenny.
She said and she swore, that she never would deceive me,
but the devil take the women, for they never can be easy

I went into my chamber, all for to take a slumber,
I dreamt of gold and jewels and for sure it was no wonder.
But Jenny took my charges and she filled them up with water,
Then sent for captain Farrel to be ready for the slaughter.

It was early in the morning, as I rose up for travel,
The guards were all around me and likewise captain Farrel.
I first produced my pistol, for she stole away my rapier,
But I couldn't shoot the water so a prisoner I was taken.

If anyone can aid me, it's my brother in the army,
If I can find his station down in Cork or in Killarney.
And if he'll come and save me, we'll go roving near Kilkenny,
And I swear he'll treat me better than me darling sportling Jenny

Now some men take delight in the drinking and the roving,
But others take delight in the gambling and the smoking.
But I take delight in the juice of the barley,
And courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early

A happy birthday song for hobbits and hobbit lovers. The Hobbit Birthday Song is popular in The Shire and throughout Hobbiton. You should've heard them sing it at Bilbo Baggins' birthday (aka Hobbit Day). JRR Tolkien would be proud.

    DON'T GO DRINKING WITH HOBBITS
Hobbit drinking songs for fans The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

There you are at the Sign of the Prancing Pony in Bree, when you hear the sounds of rollicking song inside. You push open the heavy oak door to see small hobbits dancing on the bar, spilling beer and singing at the top of their lungs.

Little did you know that there are scores of great hobbit drinking songs. Marc Gunn, The Celtfather, met up with Daisy Brambleburr of Bindbale Wood (aka Rie Sheridan Rose) in Hobbiton to discuss and share the drinking songs of the hobbits. He came back with a plethora of great hobbit songs and tunes to share in his newest album, Don’t Go Drinking With Hobbits.

  • HALLELUJAH - Marc Gunn

    5:02

Hallelujah is a brilliant song written by Leonard Cohen and covered by Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale, k.d. lang, Pentatonix, Bon Jovi, Tori Kelly, Celtic Thunder, and pretty much everyone under the sun. My autoharp arrangement also includes a short jig rift that I hope will sound even more incredible when I finally record it. My goal is to give the Celtic twist that is an essential part of my music.

I hope you enjoy the song.

Marc Gunn plays Sci F'Irish music. He fuses his love of science fiction, fantasy, and comedy with his Scots-Irish heritage. You will laugh and smile to songs inspired from Firefly to hobbits, dragons to cats, to traditional Irish drinking songs. He's topped the charts on iTunes and Amazon and won numerous awards. He is a leading innovator on his musical weapon of choice, the autoharp.

    DRUNKEN SAILOR LYRICS

    words and music traditional

What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
    Early in the morning?

    chorus:
Weigh heigh and up she rises
Weigh heigh and up she rises
Weigh heigh and up she rises
    Early in the morning

Put him in a long boat till he's sober.

Leave him there till they make him better.

Trice up in a running bowline.

Give 'im a dose of salt and water.

Give 'im a taste of the bosun's rope-end.

Soak him in oil till he sprouts a flipper.

Shave his belly with a rusty razor.

Put him in the bed of the Captain's daughter.

You should of seen the Captain's daughter.

    She looks like an orangutan.

    Swinging from a chandalier.

That's what you do with a drunken sailor.

  • La La La

    2:14

I've been listening to too much Sesame Street. Bert and Ernie are my daughter's favorite characters. One of the songs I love is La La La sung by those two friends. Since I sing Celtic Geek music, i thought it'd be cool to parody the song with a sci fi/fantasy theme. So I asked the Gunn Runners for L-based suggestions. This was a small sampling of my faves from the list.

    La La La parody Lyrics

    La la la la... Labyrinth
    La la la la... Laboratory
    La la la la... Leprechaun
La la la la... Leaf on the wind

    La la la la... Legolas
La la la la... Lex Luther
    La la la la... Launcelot
La la la la... Princess Leia

    La la la la... Lucky
La la la la... Luke Skywalker
    La la la la... Lightsaber
La la la la... Live long and prosper

    La la la la... Laser
    La la la la... Lovecraft
La la la la... Last Unicorn
La la la la... Wingardium leviosa

    La la la la... Lilliputian

    Umm... Listen to me
Cuz L is such a lovely letter

  • Star of the County Down - by Marc Gunn

    4:05

Near to Banbridge Town, in the County Down
    One morning last July,
Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen,
    And she smiled as she passed me by;
Well, she looked so sweet from her two bare feet
    To the sheen of her nut-brown hair;
Such a coaxing elf, sure I shook myself
To make sure I was really there.

From Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay,
And from Galway to Dublin town,
No maid I've seen like the sweet colleen
That I met in the County Down.

As she onward sped, sure I shook my head
And I looked with a feeling rare.
    Then I said, says I, to a passer-by,
Who's the maid with the nut-brown hair?
Well, he smiled at me, and with pride says he,
That's the gem of old Ireland's crown,
She's young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann,
She's the Star of the County Down.

Well I've traveled a bit, but ne'er was hit
    Since my roving career began;
Then fair and square I surrendered there
To the charms of young Rose McCann.
I'd a heart to let and no tenant yet
Did I see in shawl or gown,
But in she went and I asked no rent
From the Star of the County Down.

At the harvest fair, I'll be surely there
And I'll dress in my Sunday clothes
With my shoes shone bright, and my hat cocked right
For a smile from my nut-brown Rose.
No pipe I'll smoke, and no horse I'll yoke
Though with rust my plow turns brown,
Till a smiling bride by my own fireside
Sits the Star of the County Down.

    KILKELLY, IRELAND LYRICS

words and music Steven and Peter Jones

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 60, my dear and loving son John
Your good friend the schoolmaster Pat McNamara's so good
As to write these words down.
Your brothers have all gone to find work in England,
The house is so empty and sad
The crop of potatoes is sorely infected,
A third to a half of them bad.
And your sister Brigid and Patrick O'Donnell
Are going to be married in June.
Your mother says not to work on the railroad
And be sure to come on home soon.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 70, dear and loving son John
Hello to your Mrs and to your 4 children,
May they grow healthy and strong.
Michael has got in a wee bit of trouble,
I guess that he never will learn.
Because of the dampness there's no turf to speak of
And now we have nothing to burn.
And Brigid is happy, you named a child for her
And now she's got six of her own.
You say you found work, but you don't say
What kind or when you will be coming home.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 80, dear Michael and John, my sons
I'm sorry to give you the very sad news
That your dear old mother has gone.
We buried her down at the church in Kilkelly,
Your brothers and Brigid were there.
You don't have to worry, she died very quickly,
    Remember her in your prayers.
And it's so good to hear that Michael's returning,
With money he's sure to buy land
For the crop has been poor and the people
Are selling at any price that they can.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 90, my dear and loving son John
I guess that I must be close on to eighty,
It's thirty years since you're gone.
Because of all of the money you send me,
I'm still living out on my own.
Michael has built himself a fine house
    And Brigid's daughters have grown.
Thank you for sending your family picture,
They're lovely young women and men.
You say that you might even come for a visit,
What joy to see you again.

Kilkelly, Ireland, 18 and 92, my dear brother John
I'm sorry that I didn't write sooner to tell you that father passed on.
He was living with Brigid, she says he was cheerful
And healthy right down to the end.
Ah, you should have seen him play with
The grandchildren of Pat McNamara, your friend.
And we buried him alongside of mother,
    Down at the Kilkelly churchyard.
He was a strong and a feisty old man,
Considering his life was so hard.
And it's funny the way he kept talking about you,
He called for you in the end.
Oh, why don't you think about coming to visit,
We'd all love to see you again.

  • Help #SaveTheDragons with Marc Gunns Dragons vs Pirates

    2:47

Http://marcgunn.com/kickstarter I am on a desperate mission to save the dragons with my new album Dragons vs. Pirates. This album of Steampunk music will change your feelings on dragons and evil pirates like Capt. Black Jack Murphy.

My hope with recording this album is that we can #SaveTheDragons by raising awareness that dragons DO EXIST and that Air Pirates are out there hunting them to extinction with lure of gold. It's insanity. Please help stop this tragic waste!

    ABOUT MARC GUNN, THE CELTFATHER

Marc Gunn is a rhythm and folk musician performing and combining both traditional and not-so-traditional Celtic songs with science fiction. It's like a satirical jam session between The Corries and Weird Al Yankovic. Nicknamed The Celtfather, Gunn is a champion of indie Celtic music. He quit his day job in 2005 to pursue music full-time. He got involved in podcasting during his downtime. His Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is one of the top 20 music podcasts on iTunes. It was voted the #1 Best Podsafe Music Podcast in the People's Choice Podcast Awards in 2009 and 2010. SKYE BOAT SONG LYRICS
    from

Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
    Onward, the sailors cry
Carry the lad that's born to be king
    Over the sea to Skye

Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar,
    Thunder clouds rend the air;
Baffled our foe's stand on the shore
    Follow they will not dare

Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep
    Ocean's a royal bed
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep
    Watch by your weary head

Many's the lad fought on that day
    Well the claymore could wield
When the night came, silently lay
    Dead on Culloden's field

Burned are our homes, exile and death
    Scatter the loyal men
Yet, e'er the sword cool in the sheath,
    Charlie will come again.

  • Cloghden More - Passage Tomb in Donegal, Ireland - Tune by Marc Gunn

    4:15

Cloghden More was a passage tomb located in Donegal, Ireland. It's location and our tour guide brought the tomb to life for me on my Celtic Invasion of Ireland in 2015. It inspired me to write this tune. The video was recorded at Johnnie Maccracken's Celtic Pub in Marietta, Georgia. Get 5 FREE MP3s at celticdownload.com
