  • Little Feat - Willin sung by Lowell George Live 1977. HQ Video.

    3:30

Little Feat performing Willin' probably their best known song. Written by and sung here by the hugely talented and sadly missed Lowell George Live in 1977. What an amazing band they were then....such sensitivity for each others playing....great balance.

    Lyrics:

I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't ya know,
    And I'm still willin'
Out on the road late last night,
Seen my pretty Alice in every head light
    Alice, Dallas Alice

I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
    Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
I've driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
If you give me: weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin' to be movin'

I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet
    And I'm still... willin'
Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
Baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico
And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
    Tehachapi to Tonapah
I've driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
I've driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign I'll be willin' to be movin'

  • Fat Man in The Bathtub - Little Feat LIVE

    5:03

I thought this was the performance of Fat Man on Waiting for Columbus , but that was from a Washington DC gig, I believe. But Lowell's vocal was just as spectacular here in Germany as it he was in the US. The intro is longer here by eight bars and the duet mix with Lowell and Richie favors Mr. Hayward in this live performance.

If Lowell was still with us, I could absolutely see him still performing. And it might be a similar take to rock and roll near 70 as the Stones present. But he isn't. At least we have many of Little Feat at the top of its game.I'll take it over the alternative.

This is as good as Feat ever got, which is pretty fucking great.

What an incredible band Little Feat were back in their seventies heyday...just in case this hasn't been viewed before (can't find it elsewhere on youtube), one great short clip of the one-and-only Little Feat and Lowell George performing Long Distance Love filmed around the time they played Auckland NZ's Town Hall in 1977...

  • Little Feat Rock and Roll Doctor 1977 Sound Check

    4:11

Two degrees in Bepop, a PHD in Swing, he's a master of rhythm, he's a rock and roll king......Now, who else but Lowell George could write and then sing a lyric like that?

This sound check took place before a1977 Little Feat gig at The Rockpalast in Essen, Germany and you can get the whole show on DVD from Eagle Vision. Member Brastburn has this and a lot of videos...check him out.

The picture gets dark at times and that's because it's a sound check and not the actual concert. I tweaked the mix a bit .

What's wonderful about this track is how relaxed the band is and it's another tour de force Lowell George vocal. What a monster singer, writer and guitar player and such an outstanding band. Lowell George, Richie Hayward, Paul Barrere, Billy Payne, Kenny Gradney and Sam Clayton.

The Little Feat album Hoy Hoy contains a great performance of All That You Dream sung by Linda Ronstadt, Nicolette Larson and Rosemary Butler at Lowell's tribute concert. You can check that album out and download tracks from All Music, as well as I'm assuming other LF albums.

  • Little Feat Guitarist-Vocalist Paul Barrere, Dead at 71 - Our Tribute

    3:15

Little Feat Guitarist Paul Barrere, Dead at 71 – Our Tribute
October 27, 2019 – He joined Little Feat in 1972 first appeared on their third studio album, “Dixie Chicken” the following year. Barrere actually auditioned for the band three years earlier.

Little Feat (Bill Payne, Sam Clayton, Fred Tackett, Kenny Gradney, and Gabe Ford) released the following statement, “Paul, sail on to the next place in your journey with our abiding love for a life always dedicated to the muse and the music. We are grateful for the time we have shared,”

Barrere died yesterday, October 26 at UCLA hospital, he had been diagnosed with liver cancer in 2015, and three years ago was forced to take a leave of absence from the band due to a battle with Hepatitis C. He was a member of Little Feat for almost 5 decades.

He was born on July 3rd, 1948. He was the son of the Hollywood actors Paul Bryar and Claudia Bryar. His resume also included performing with Taj Mahal, Jack Bruce, Chicken Legs, Blues Busters, Valerie Carter, Robert Palmer, and Carly Simon. He was also featured on the 1979 Nicolette Larson Warner Brothers promotional video of Lotta Love. He also performed with Bonnie Raitt who tweeted that Barrere a brilliant guitarist, singer and songwriter and a cornerstone of one of the greatest bands of all time. She added: I'm glad he is free of pain and may he rest in peace. I send my deep love and condolences to his family, bandmates, and friends. We will hold him in our hearts and celebrate his life and music always.

Some of his writing and singing contributions with Little Feat include, “Walkin' All Night” which he sang and co-wrote with Bill Payne from 1972's “Dixie Chicken,' Skin It Back, which he also sang from Feats Don't Fail Me Now,” he also co-wrote the title tune from 1974. From the next project from 1975, “The Last Record Album” Barrere co-wrote, “Romance Dance” which he sings with Bill Payne. The pair also penned “All that You Dream” and sing “Day or Night” plus co-wrote “One Love Stand.” He wrote or co-wrote six tracks from their next album “Time Loves a Hero” from 1977 and sang on four. Then there's was the album that starts with a farmer telling a frog to shut up, 'Down On the Farm”.They all asked about you, Down on the farm, The cows asked, the pigs asked, The horses asked, too, ”It Aint True Linda Lou.” He wrote two on that 1979 album.

Their leader and lead singer Lowell George died on June 29, 1979, of a heart attack, the effects of living a rock n roll lifestyle. They broke up that same year but reunited in 1987 and have performed together ever since. - by John Beaudin

  • Rock and Roll Doctor - Little Feat

    3:57

Lowell George at his finest in this clip of Little Feat performing Rock and Roll Doctor, on the BBC music series The Old Grey Whistle Test, circa 1975 or thereabouts. An excellent version of this song can be found on Little Feat's album Hoy-Hoy, and a live version on the album Waiting for Columbus. Written by Lowell George and Fred Martin.

    Lyrics:

There was a woman in Georgia didn't feel just right
She had fever all day and chills at night
Now things got worse, yes a serious bind
At times like this it takes a man with such style I cannot often find
A doctor of the heart and a doctor of mind

If you like country with a boogie beat he's the man to meet
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet he can't be beat
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the Rock and Roll doctor's advice

It's just a country town but patients come
From Mobile to Moline from miles around
    Nagodoches to New Orleans
In beat-up old cars or in limousines
To meet the doctor of soul, he's got his very own thing

Two degrees in be-bop, a PHD in swing
He's the master of rhythm he's a rock and roll king

If you like country with a boogie beat he's the man to meet (he's the man to meet)
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet he can't be beat (I say he can't be beat)
    If you... If you wanna
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the Rock and Roll doctor's advice

    1:51:02

    Little Feat
    Orpheum Theatre
    Boston, MA
    Friday, 9pm EST, WBCN-FM
    October 31, 1975

The tour was in support of The Last Record Album, released October 17, 1975. The band had just finished doing 5 consecutive nights at Paul's Mall (small Boston Club of the era) and this performance was recorded at the Orpheum Theatre (2500 seats) on the night following that run. Perhaps the 5 previous nights help account for the band's over-the-top tightness and rhythmic pocket heard on this performance.

This show was originally broadcast live on WBCN 104.1 FM in Boston. There was at least one re-broadcast on WBCN about 6 months after the show. (update: one known rebroadcast in the early '90s)

Little Feat are one of the most influential American bands of the seventies. DVD+CD: Itunes Audio: Founded by Lowell George and Bill Payne in L.A. in 1969 they produced a series of highly original albums over the next decade featuring an eclectic blend of rock 'n' roll, blues, country, folk, soul and jazz before the death of Lowell George in 1979 brought the first phase of the band's existence to an end. This digital video captures the band's performance at the famous Dutch festival Pinkpop on 7 June 1976 and captures the band's classic line-up at the peak of their powers performing many of their best known tracks.

    3:57

This is one of Lowell George's unique looks at a common situation for men, done as usual with wit and charm and urgency befitting the predicament.

Sam Clayton adds backing vocals to his conga drums behind the best combination, song writer, singer and guitar I've every heard, Lowell George. Paul Barrere and Lowell and their duel guitar soaring with Bill Payne's just right keyboards, Kenny Gradney layin' down the bottom funk with one of THE great rock drummers, Richie Hayward. This is Feat at its Best with a big assist from The Tower of Power Horn Section.

I messed around with the audio a little which comes from the only all live Little Feat album, Waiting for Columbus. As was done with other tracks on this live album, Rocket on the album is a mix of various performances. You'll notice this doesn't match exactly, but the quality is much better than from the concert video I thought you would overlook it.

The Tower of Power Horn Section backs Feat with its usual accent and excitement.

Oh, I am just a vagabond, a drifter on the run
And eloquent profanity, it rolls right off my tongue
And I have dined in palaces, drunk wine with kings and queens
But darlin', oh darlin', you're the best thing I've ever seen
Won't you roll me easy, oh slow and easy
    Take my independence
    With no apprehension, no tension
    You walkin' talkin' dream paradise
    Sweet pair a' dice

Well I been across this country
    From Denver to the ocean
And I never met girls that could sing so sweet
Like the angels that live in Houston
Singin' Roll me easy, so slow and easy
Play that Concertina, I'll be your temptress
    And baby I'm defenseless
    Singin' harmony in unison
    Sweet harmony
Gotta hoist your flag and I'll beat your drum
