It must be your skin I'm sinking in
It must be for real 'cause now I can feel
    And I didn't mind
    It's not my kind
It's not my time to wonder why

    Everything's gone white
    Andeverything's gray
Now you're here now you're away
    I don't want this
    Remember that
I'll never forget where you're at

Don't let the days go by

Call you up in the middle of the night
like a firefly without a light
you were there like a blowtorch burning
i was a key that could use a little turning
so tired that i couldn't even sleep
so many secrets i couldn't keep
    promised myself i wouldn't weep
one more promise i couldn't keep

it seems no one can help me now
    i'm in too deep
    there's no way out
this time i have really lead myself astray

    runaway train, never goin' back
wrong way on a one-way track
seems like i should be getting somewhere
somehow i'm neither here nor there

  • The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

Working from home alternative classics ➤

The rock classic, recorded at Olympic studios in Barnes and produced by Steve Brown. This was recorded and released as a stand-alone single but it was included on the band's next album, 'Love'. Though it spent months in the UK charts, and was one of the best selling tracks of the year, it actually never reached the top ten. It was the last release to feature the original Cult drummer Nigel Preston.

Since I could hold my head up high
    And it's been awhile
    Since I first saw you
    And it's been awhile
Since I could stand on my own two feet again
    And it's been awhile
    Since I could call you

    And everything I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
    The consequences that I've rendered
I've stretched myself beyond my means

    And it's been awhile
Since I can say that I wasn't addicted
    And it's been awhile
Since I can say I love myself as well
    And it's been awhile
Since I've gone and fucked things up just like I always do
    And it's been awhile
But all that shit seems to disappear when I'm with you

    And everything I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
    The consequences that I've rendered
I've gone and fucked things up again

Why must I feel this way?
    Just make this go away
    Just one more peaceful day!

    And it's been awhile
Since I could look at myself straight
    And it's been awhile
    Since I said I'm sorry
    And it's been awhile
Since I've seen the way the candles light your face
    And it's been awhile
But I can still remember just the way you taste

    And everything I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem to be I know it's me
I cannot blame this on my father
He did the best he could for me

    And it's been awhile
Since I could hold my head up high
    And it's been awhile
    Since I said I'm sorry

The Here and Now were a modern rock band that played primarily at Guido's near the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in the late 1990s. The primary members were Michael McCormack (vocals and guitar), Russell Chamberlain (bass), Trey Miller (drums) and Lisa Bamford (keys)

Anxious to record as a new band, we purchased an 8-Track tape recorder and quickly recorded our songs live so we could return the recorder for a full refund. It worked! But the recordings are a little messy. Still we learned a lot and it had many fun moments.
    All is not lost...

Thanks Adrian for the poster, wherever you are...

Inspired by U2, Depeche Mode, New Order, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Crowded House and Simple Minds.

Modern rock is a rock format commonly found on commercial radio; the format consists primarily of the alternative rock genre.[1] Generally beginning with late 1970s punk but referring especially to alternative rock music since the 1980s, the phrase modern rock is used in the USA to differentiate the music from classic rock.

A few modern rock radio stations existed during the 1980s, such as KROQ-FM in Los Angeles, 91X (XETRA-FM) in San Diego, WHTG FM 106.3 (now, WKMK) on the Jersey Shore, WLIR on Long Island, WFNX in Boston and KQAK The Quake in San Francisco.[1] Modern rock was solidified as a radio format in 1988 with Billboard's creation of the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The chart was based on weighted reports from college radio stations and commercial stations such as those listed above.[2] The 1988 episode of the VH1 show I Love the '80s discussed INXS, The Cure, Morrissey, Depeche Mode, and Erasure as modern rock artists representative of that year.

For most of the 2000s, modern rock radio stations mostly featured songs that were crossed over from the active rock format. This was often famous for the second wave of post-grunge and nu metal scenes that derived from grunge and alternative metal music, respectively, in the 1990s. During the early 2000s, these two genres made up most of the modern rock format, despite the format being a heavily diverse format genre-wise (for example, in 2003, it was not uncommon to hear The Postal Service, The Mars Volta, Junior Senior, Snow Patrol, Story of the Year, and The Black Keysall played on the same modern rock station). By the mid-2000s, the two genres were dropped, and the revivals of genres such as post-punk, garage rock, noise rock, and dance-punk (often tagged in as the post-punk revival of that time) took its place but the post-grunge and nu metal genres still had some success.

    On a cob web afternoon,
In a room full of emptiness
    By a freeway I confess
    I was lost in the pages of a book full of death;
    Reading how we'll die alone.
And if we're good we'll lay to rest,
    Anywhere we want to go.

    In your house I long to be;
    Room by room patiently,
I'll wait for you there like a stone.
I'll wait for you there alone.

And on my deathbed I will pray to the gods and the angels,
    Like a pagan to anyone who will take me to heaven;
To a place I recall, I was there so long ago.
The sky was bruised, the wine was bled, and there you led me on.

  • Heres to the Atom Bomb: A Love Letter to The Smashing Pumpkins

My first non-film related video. Enjoy me stealing a new format!
    Albums chronologically:
Gish (1991) - The sound of this one is pretty much grunge meets psychedelia.

Siamese Dream (1993) - Think heavy metal, dream pop, shoegaze, and grunge all blended together

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) - This is a hard one to describe. It's pretty much the epitome of 90s alt. rock without being dated. It's timeless. Mixture of symphonic rock, psychedelia, grunge, folk, synthpop, new wave, goth rock, metal, and dream pop.

Adore (1998) - Gothic industrial rock crossed with folky acoustic music. I'm over simplifying it. Great album though.

Machina/The Machines of God (2000) - Similar to Siamese Dream in a way, but with more emphasis on dream pop and art rock. Lyrically it pulls from alchemy and mysticism to tell the story of a rockstar gone insane. It's awesome.

Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music (2000) - Sister album to Machina one. Hard to pin down. More of a lo-fi production sound. Similar to Machina I, heavy rock mixed with some dream pop and new wave.

    Zeitgeist (2007) - It's a heavy metal album.

Teargarden by Kaleidycsope (2009-2014) [Albums within that album - Oceania (2012), Monuments to an Elegy (2014) - For the EPs, think, What if SP were a prog/psych rock band in the 70s?. Oceania is very dreamy and Monuments definitely is on the softer side as well with a more alt. rock sound.

Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. (2018) - Hard to pin this one down too. It's a mixture of symphonic rock, new wave, and hard rock, but still retains the classic SP sound. I mean all of these albums do. So whatevs, brah.

  • Nutshell - First Stone

This is Track #6 from the 1979 Nutshell album Believe It Or Not

Listen to the whole album here -

This was the final of 4 albums from Nutshell though a Best of compilation was released in 1981. Ken Scott (Archivist: Vintage Vinyl Jesus Music) described the band as at their best, as an English version of the American Christian folk group 2nd Chapter of Acts. I find that a little condescending (though I don't know if it was meant to be) as the band had some real talent. The album has that late 70's Jesus music feel and on a couple of tracks I can feel a bit of soul. There is some really good guitar work especially on Thief In The Night. This is not a Rock & Roll album and would be classified as Easy Listening but I think it's pretty good. After this album the band changed their name to Network 3 and released a couple 7 singles. Several members of the band went on to have successful solo careers and Paul Field in particular also had a successful songwriting career including many songs for Cliff Richard.

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York Virtual Surround
Virtual Surround is a technology which allows you to listen to music, watch movies, or play video games with surround effects using any set of two channel stereo headphones. I'm a big surround music fan and made this album so I can listen it in surround through headphones on a portable player.

The sources of this release are surround tracks ripped from the DVD (DTS 5.1). I've converted them to virtual surround with Creative's BlasterX Acoustic Engine Pro. Using state-of-the-art technology, it gives an enhanced virtual 7.1 channel surround sound experience with regular stereo headphones.

MTV Unplugged in New York is a live album by American rock band Nirvana. It was released on November 1, 1994 by DGC Records. The album features an acoustic performance recorded at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993, for the television series MTV Unplugged.

Despite the show's premise, Cobain insisted on running his acoustic guitar through his amplifier and effects pedals. Coletti built a fake box in front of the amplifier to disguise it as a monitor wedge. Coletti said, It was Kurt's security blanket. He was used to hearing this guitar through his Fender. He wanted those effects. You can hear it on 'The Man Who Sold the World'. It's an acoustic guitar, but he's obviously going through an amp.

Unlike many artists who appeared on the show, Nirvana filmed the entire performance in a single take. The show was directed by Beth McCarthy and aired on the cable television network MTV on December 16, 1993. Also in a break with traditional practice on the television series, Nirvana played mainly lesser-known material and cover versions of songs by the Vaselines, David Bowie, Lead Belly, and Meat Puppets, whose Cris and Curt Kirkwood joined Nirvana onstage.

MTV Unplugged in New York was the first Nirvana album released following the death of Kurt Cobain. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and is Nirvana's most successful posthumous release, having been certified 5x platinum in the United States by 1997. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996. In 2012, it was placed at number 313 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The magazine also named it the 95th best album of the 1990s. NME placed MTV Unplugged in New York at number 1 on their list of the 50 Greatest Live Albums.

  • Jerry Cantrell: Of Alice In Chains 120 Minutes

#AliceInChains is the most influential band of the `90s. Drawing from the heavy riffing of metal & gloomy strains of grunge, they developed a bleak, nihilistic sound that balanced grinding metallic riffs with subtly textured acoustic numbers. They were hard enough for metal fans, yet their dark subject matter & punky attack placed at the front of #grunge
