  • 20 Names of classical composers with correct pronunciation

    1:48

I am not native nor expert on any of the languages of this video, so don´t take this video as infallible. But I think it should be more accurate than those videos about some random guy trying to teach us how to pronounce these names.

And also, sorry for the bad quality on some of the audios, specially on russian names: it is the raw archive from google translator so blame google instead of me -_-

  • Happy Birthday in the Styles of 10 Classical Composers

    18:27

During the past 2 years, I've covered these 10 classical composers in my How to Sound Like series. Each episode was uploaded on or around the composers' birthdays, and I dissected the characteristics of their music to construct versions of Happy Birthday in their styles. This is a fun, celebratory, and educational exercise, and in no way am I claiming that the authenticity of these versions is anything more than sincere attempts at trying to understand the intricacies of each composer. Please keep that in mind, and enjoy!

  • Great Composers: The Japanese

    10:53

    Hello!

Let me explain to you viewers who these composers are.

Nobuo Ueamtsu: He composes music for videogames, especially for the Final Fantasy series.
    He is largely self-taught.
The fact that he composes music for video games might put some people off, but he has composed some really good music. He was my first musical inspiration.

Toru Takemitsu: A well known Japanese composer. he is also largely self-taught.
His influences include Claude Debussy, Anton Webern, Edgard Varèse, Arnold Schoenberg, and Olivier Messiaen, and also Japanese tradicional music.
He has also composed music for films.

Rentaro Taki: A well known composer of Japan. He was also a pianist. He composed music for piano, short vocal works and songs for children. His style is a fusion of Tradicional Japanese music and german romanticism, which he learned in the Liepzig Conservatory. He died at the early age of 23.

Yuzo Toyama: Yuzo Toyama was born in Tokyo in 1931. He studied composition under Kan-ichi Shimofusa, a pupil of Hindemith and a conducting student of Kurt Wss and Wilhelm Loibner, both of whom conducted the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo in the 1950s. Toyama has served as the principal conductor of a number of orchestras in Japan. As a composer he has been under the influence of Bartok and Shostakovich in particular, and like Kodly he attaches great importance to the use of folk melodies in his works.

I think that it is important to listen to music from different cultures and that way you can picture that culture and listen to what people in that culture were thinking. I also believe that its important to listen to different kinds of music, because it helps a person develope as a musician.

There might possibly be a part 2 of this video, but I'm not certain yet, because my knowledge on asian composers is very little.

I will be uploading some more pieces from Bortkiewicz and after that I will be uploading music from these composers!
I hope you have enjoyed the video!

(I had to reupload the video because I made a huge mistake)

Giacomo Susani plays his own composition The Blue Madeleine | Classical Guitar

“The Blue Madeleine” is a piece for solo guitar that I wrote in May 2019, dedicated to David Russell. It is in three movements (“Familiar Dreams”; “Arioso” and “Cypresses”) and is inspired by the theme of memory and how this influences and shapes each one’s sensitivity and emotional landscape in their present.
    - Giacomo Susani -

► Score is available for purchase at

“When I first heard The Blue Madeleine played by the composer I was struck by the imagination, beauty and excitement of the music. I asked Giacomo if he would send me a copy, as I would love to learn it. The music is a joy to play. The first movement, Familiar Dreams, enchants us with notes woven across the fingerboard evoking the atmosphere felt by Marcel Proust. This is followed by a deep and mysterious Arioso. The last movement, Cypresses, is an exciting virtuosic tour de
force that exploits the possibilities of our instrument to the maximum.
I am proud that Giacomo dedicated the piece to me. I am sure many people will enjoy playing it as much as I do.
