with support of University of Alberta’s Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies.

The inspiration in this composition comes from the folk traditions of Central Europe, in this case, the traditional singing and dancing styles of the Dinaric Alps region (Dinarides). Using a water whistle, the composer first introduces a bird in a call-and-answer episode with stunning Ganga singing from Croatia. The bird then flies over mountains and valleys, observing neighboring communities, field songs and village dances from Bosnia, Slovenia, Serbia, and Albania, until the athletic klezmer style animates everyone in a fast dance punctuated with a cheering ‘Hey!’”

The Ganga is a type of rural singing of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its characterized by a unique singer accompanied by a chorus in what can be described as a lament. ... The Ganga is traditionally sung by shepherds between valleys as a means of long-distance communication.

  • My Big Fat Guide to using a Virtual Orchestra

    54:37

This is a video I've been wanting to do for about a year as it's consistently the most requested thing I've had in emails and comments, so here it is!

I've tried to make it as forensic and as in-depth as possible so that it covers everything, which means it's wound up being almost an hour long. But if you're looking for hints and tips on making realistic orchestral recordings with virtual instruments, the hour of your time should hopefully be worth it.

If you've got any specific comments or questions, put them in the comments and I'll come back to you when I can.

I'm aware of a couple of issues - my capture software has stopped capturing the cursor for some reason and I can't get it back. Apologies, but just had to go with it. Also, the way I had to capture audio for the screen capture without ASIO meant I had some mic level issues, which means there's plosives here and there. Hopefully it doesn't bother anyone.

    Timings:

    1:00 - Step 1 - Watch a real orchestra
    2:20 - Step 2 - What is sampling?

    52:33 - Summary & Outro

Some other questions you might have that I didn't mention:

    Q. Do you play the parts in or draw them?
    A. I play some of the parts in and draw some of them depending upon the difficulty.

    Q. Do you master your mixes?
    A. Yes, as a separate stage. I use T-racks for mastering EQ, compression and limiting but you can use any number of plugins for the job.

    Q. How long do the remakes take you?
    A. Depends wildly upon how complicated the piece is. I usually do them in segments late at night over several weeks, but probably something like 16 hours if I totaled it.

    Q. Do you work this out by ear or use scores?
    A. Mainly work from scores, but sometimes have reduced scores and have to work out the individual parts by ear.

    Q. Where do you find the scores?
    A. I have some that I've bought over the years, I borrowed others from music libraries and there's a lot lurking on Scribd. A lot of film scores aren't released publicly.

    LYRICS:
The call of the white wolf is loudest at the dawn.
The call of a stone heart is broken and alone.

    Born of Kaer Morhen,
    Born of No Love.

The Song of the white wolf is cold as driven snow.
Bear not your eyes upon him lest steel or silver draw.

Lay not your breast against him or lips to ease his roar.
For the song of the White Wolf will always be sung alone.
For the song of the White Wolf will always be sung alone.

Cast not your eyes upon him, lest he kiss you with his sword.
Lay not your heart against him or your lips to ease his roar.
For the song of the White Wolf.
    We'll always sing alone.

For the song of the White Wolf.
    We'll always sing alone.

  • Izolda & Vlado - Ciao amore

    3:02

Izolda i Vlado - Ljubavna priča br. 1 (Jugovizija 1984)
(Original studio version of Ciao amore)
    Music: Slobodan Bučevac.
    Lyrics: Milan Perić.
    Arrangement: Mato Došen.
    Audio (c) RTV Titograd 1984

This is the studio recording of the version of the song as performed at the Yugoslav finals for the Eurovision Song Contest 1984. Jugovizija 84 was held on March 23rd at the Universal Hall in Skopje, hosted by Liljana Krsteva and Blagoja Krstevski. The winning song was chosen from a selection of 16 songs, by the votes of 8 regional juries. Each TV studio competed with 2 songs. Ljubavna priča br. 1 won the national contest, It was later renamed Ciao amore, the bridge was changed and the arrangement was slightly altered. Furthermore, bells were added to the arrangement for the performance in Luxemburg. However, that didn't help a lot, nor Izolda's topless bit in the preview video. Ciao amore finished second last in Luxemburg.

But this is not the first version of the song. Here is the story. At that time all authors could submit their songs only to the TV Studio in the republic of their residence. Also, the deadline for submission was different to each TV Studio. The first version of Ciao amore was called Moja najmilija and it was submitted to TV Zagreb with Đorđe Novković and Zrinko Tutić credited as authors. Đorđe Novković also submitted Oh, ne, cherie (Rendez-vous) and Mary Ann (Alen Slavica). Non of his songs were accepted and he re-submitted them to the studios that were still running the concours. Those three songs were accpted at Titograd, Ljubljana and Priština, respectively, but with authors from those Republics credited. Novković was later added on the list of authors on the album releases on Oh, ne, cherie and Mary Ann, but not to Ciao amore who was credited to Slobodan Bučevac and Milan Perić, probably due to legal reasons. After the competition TV Zagreb broadcasted a special show in which some of their rejects were presented. Among them were: Izolda i Vlado - Moja najmilija (Ciao amore), Rendez-vous - Oh, ne, cherie, Alen Slavica - Mary Ann, Darko Domijan - Lucille (all 4 by Novković), Novi Fosili - Valentino i Renato...

Vlado Kalember is a Croatian pop singer, famous for his recognisable, husky voice. In the 1970s, he was the vocalist of the popular pop band Srebrna Krila. After leaving the band, he continued with a solo career. In 1984, together with Izolda Barudžija, he represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest. (CIao Amore). He was also a member of 4 Asa. He is married to the cellist Ana Rucner. His biggest successes are Vino na usnama, Ja nisam kockar, Ana, Lili, Otkad si otišla, Ja odavde, ona s juga, Odoh u mornare...

Izolda Barudžija is a singer from former Yugoslavia born in Split. She was a member of the Belgrade vocal group Pop Polifonija, from which the trio Aska was extracted, They became the Yugoslav enrants to the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 (Halo, halo). In 1983, she and her sister Eleonora were Daniel Popović's backing vocals/dancers. Their song Julie won the 4th place and became a big hit. In a third year in a row, in 1984, she and Vlado Kalember sung Ciao Amore at the Eurovision Song Contest, in Luxemburg. The preview video for Ciao Amore was not broadcast on Turkish state television because Barudžija appeared bathing topless. However, they got their highest votes from Turkey (8 points). Izolda participated at Opatija 1984 just before she won Jugovizija 84 and at Split 84. Izolda and Vlado sang at a music festival in Bodrum, Turkey in the summer of that year.

From 1995 Izolda started singing in duet with her sister Eleonora and together they had few festival appearances, the most memorable was Mesam 1986, with Opet Beograd, which won the Jury Award and the SOKOJ (Union of Yugoslav Composers) Award, and as far as i remember, their last appearance together was at the Eurovision Finals of scattered Yugoslavia in 1992.

Izolda married the Serbian musician Zlatko Manojlović and together they released an album under the name Vox. Manojlović wrote the music, while the lyrics were written by both of them. In 1998, they released the another Vox album, with some songs featuring Manojlović playing sitar.

Only for Education and Entertainment use;-) Whiter shade of pale-Procol Harum 1967 cover prof.Miki The main theme Inspiration for this 1967 song comes from 200 year old baroque music composition'' Air on the G ''string from german baroque composer Johan Sebastian Bach.Keyboardist and lead vocal from English progressive rock band Procol Harum Matew Fisher played the Hammond Organ M-102 with Leslie 122. A Whiter Shade of Pale is the debut single by the British rock band Procol Harum, released 12 May 1967. The single reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart on 8 June 1967 and stayed there for six weeks. Without much promotion, it reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. One of the anthems of the 1967 Summer of Love, it is one of the best selling singles in history, having sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

With its Bach-derived instrumental melody, soulful vocals, and unusual lyrics – by the song's co-authors Gary Brooker, Keith Reid and Matthew Fisher – A Whiter Shade of Pale reached number 1 in many countries when released in 1967. In the years since, it has become an enduring classic. It was the most played song in the last 75 years in public places in the UK (as of 2009), and the United Kingdom performing rights group Phonographic Performance Limited in 2004 recognised it as the most-played record by British broadcasting of the past 70 years. Also in 2004, Rolling Stone placed A Whiter Shade of Pale 57th on its list of the The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Matthew Charles Fisher (born 7 March 1946) is an English musician, songwriter and producer. He is best known for playing the Hammond organ on the 1967 single A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum, for which he subsequently won a songwriting credit. In 2005, former Procol Harum organist Matthew Fisher filed suit in the High Court against Gary Brooker and his publisher, claiming that he co-wrote the music for the song. Fisher won the case on 20 December 2006 but was awarded 40% of the composers' share of the music copyright, rather than the 50% he was seeking and was not granted royalties for the period before 2005 A Whiter Shade of Pale was covered by Annie Lennox for her 1995 album Medusa. It was released as the second single in May 1995 and became a top-forty hit in Europe and Canada.Great covers of the Whiter shade of pale are Joe Cocker version and Glenn Hughes;-) Prof.Miki Serbian New Age Composer Equipment;-)Casio Cz-5000(1985)Phase Distortion Synthesizer

  • Sweet Georgia Brown-Ben & Maceo-cover prof.Miki

    2:13

Only for Education and Entertainment;-)Sweet Georgia Brown-Jazz Standard by Ben & Maceo in 1925 cover prof.Miki 2019 Sweet Georgia Brown is a jazz standard and pop tune composed in 1925 by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard, with lyrics by Kenneth Casey.

Reportedly Ben Bernie came up with the concept for the song's lyrics – although he is not the accredited lyricist – after meeting Dr. George Thaddeus Brown in New York City: Dr. Brown, a longtime member of the State House of Representatives for Georgia, told Bernie about Dr. Brown's daughter Georgia Brown and how subsequent to the baby girl's birth on August 11, 1911 the Georgia General Assembly had issued a declaration that she was to be named Georgia after the state, an anecdote which would be directly referenced by the song's lyric: Georgia claimed her – Georgia named her.

The tune was first recorded on March 19, 1925, by bandleader Ben Bernie, resulting in a five-week number one for Ben Bernie and his Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra.

One of the most popular versions of Sweet Georgia Brown was recorded in 1949 by Brother Bones and His Shadows and later adopted as the theme song of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team in 1952.
Jazz standards are musical compositions that are an important part of the musical repertoire of jazz musicians, in that they are widely known, performed, and recorded by jazz musicians, and widely known by listeners. There is no definitive list of jazz standards, and the list of songs deemed to be standards changes over time. Songs included in major fake book publications (sheet music collections of popular tunes) and jazz reference works offer a rough guide to which songs are considered standards.

Not all jazz standards were written by jazz composers. Many are originally Tin Pan Alley popular songs, Broadway show tunes or songs from Hollywood musicals – the Great American Songbook. In Europe, jazz standards and fake books may even include some traditional folk songs (such as in Scandinavia) or pieces of ethnic music (such as gypsy melodies) that have been played with a jazz feel by well known jazz players. A commonly played song can only be considered a jazz standard if it is widely played among jazz musicians. The jazz standard repertoire has some overlap with blues and pop standards.

The most recorded jazz standard was W. C. Handy's St. Louis Blues for over 20 years from the 1930s onward, after which Hoagy Carmichael's Stardust replaced it.Today, the place is held by Body and Soul by Johnny Green. The most recorded standard composed by a jazz musician is Thelonious Monk's 'Round Midnight Prof.Miki(1975)Serbian New Age Composer Equipment;-)Casio Cz-5000(1985)Phase Distortion Synthesizer

  • Russian Basso Profondo: The Lowest Voices

    1:47

Here are two short extracts of an exceptional record of Russian choral work (which includes anonymous ancient liturgical chant, popular folk songs, and music by well known Russian choral composers, such as Tchesnokov and Gretchaninov), introducing some of the lowest voices in the world. The two singers here are Vladimir Pasuikov and, with an even lower voice, Yuri Wichniakov, one of the most famous Basso Profondo, who are unique to Russian singing. Their vocal range is at least one octave below the normal bass range (think Paul Robeson). In the first extract the bass hits the low Ab1; in the second the bass hits a G1. Not only do they possess the lowest notes of any choral singer, but the soloists have such full voices that the effect is immediately striking.
Enjoy those exceptional samples of the magnificent Russian choral art!

  • how to train your dragon x kung fu panda trilogy

    5:41

    John Powel x Hans Zimmer

man I love these two themes!!! they have been, beyond a doubt, my favorite animated movie soundtrack to date. i remember when I first saw How To Train Your Dragon in theaters with my dad and 3 of my siblings. and I still own the original dvd of kung fu panda that my parents bought all those years ago. growing up, I could never get enough of the fantastic scores and music that these series offered. the music of the films and series, tells as much, if not more, of the story then dialogue and visuals could ever do alone. throughout the series, there are multiple spots where there is zero dialogue, and all that is left is the music to carry the weight of the scene, and keep the audience captivated. I think that's part of why it's so good. because there is so many scenes that rest on the power of the score.

I've heard a few different attempts to combine these two themes, but I was mostly unsatisfied, and felt like much more could be done. there was many other songs I thought about using, but ended up just settling on this version simply due to time constraints (the video is already almost six minutes long...) that being said, it's highly possible you'll end up seeing a part 2 someday :)

let me know in the comments what you thought of this mashup, or any of the other one's I've made so far. I enjoy hearing from you. be sure to like and subscribe to the channel as I will be dropping a new song every week and would hate for you to miss any. got any ideas for a mashup or medley? let me know as well and I'll be sure to start working on it :)

and also on that note, I just started school again this week( I'm super excited!!!! for real, everyone I know who isn't a film student thinks I'm crazy for feeling sad when I go on break. no shame.) that means that I'll probably have less time to dedicate to these videos, and I might possibly have to skimp on the descriptions and visuals of the videos, at least during the busiest parts of the semester. however, the songs themselves are still going to maintain the same standard as before. thank you for your understanding.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! I DON'T OWN ANYTHING IN THIS VIDIEO. NOT ONE BIT.

I simply edited them together, and did so purely for the entertainment purposes and not for any sort of monetary gain. I am NOT attempting to steal or infringe on any copyrights. I did not write these scores, I did not record them, and I did not take any of the photos or pictures used. I'm just trying to have a good time and hone my editing skills, as well as give you something you might enjoy listening to as well. The original composers, Hans Zimmer and John Powell, are super, freaking, amazing, and talented composers and I would never consciously try and steal their art. take my advice, and go listen to some of their work, and you'll see just how good they are. here is a list of all the songs that I used.

Goran Bregovic performing live in Casarano Italy, two hours of excelent WEDDING AND FUNERAL songs from the album Underground and from his last albums ALKOHOL. Goran executes songs of Tales and Songs for Weddings and Funerals and Alkohol with ensemble Goran Bregovic Wedding & Funeral Band with Ensemble) For info

Goran Bregović (Горан Бреговић), born March 22, 1950 is a Yugoslav musician from Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the most recognizable modern composers of the Balkans.
    GORAN GREGOVIC
Born in Sarajevo of a Serbian mother and a Croatian father. After a few years of (very unenthusiastic) music studies at the conservatory (violin), Goran forms his first group The White Button at the age of sixteen. Goran Bregovic's music marries sounds of a gypsy brass band with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, those of an electric guitar and traditional percussion with a curious rock accent.. all against a background of a bedevilled string orchestra and deep sonorities of a male choir, creating music that our soul recognises instinctively and the body greets with an irresistible urge to dance.

    GORAN BREGOVIC - EMIR KUSTURICA

From this year, through the FIST Music platform, we want to connect music with theater, performance and other performing arts practices. The workshop was held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 6 pm in the Small Hall of the Kolarac Endowment in Belgrade, Serbia.
The workshop consists of a lecture by composer Maja Bosnić on the topic of audience participation as material and joint performance of the interactive work Menuet4phoneS for audience with smartphones.
What are the different possibilities of activating the audience during a performance or music theater?
What are the possibilities of interaction with the audience?
In what ways is it possible to direct and manage audience participation?
What are the possible outcomes and how can we build material with the audience?
These are some of the questions we tried to answer, review previous research, as well as personal experiences.
