    Lyrics:
    [Produced by Joel Little]

    [Verse 1]
I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address
In a torn up town, no postcode envy

    [Pre-Chorus]
    But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
    But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
    Let me live that fantasy

    [Verse 2]
My friends and I, we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows
    That we're fine with this
    We didn't come from money

    [Pre-Chorus]
    But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
    But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
    Let me live that fantasy

    [Bridge]
    (Oh, oh-oh)
We're bigger than we ever dreamed
And I'm in love with being queen
    (Oh, oh-oh)
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)

  • Alicia Keys: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

    27:47

This performance was recorded on Feb. 12, 2020. We will continue releasing Tiny Desk videos of shows that had already been taped. In light of current events, NPR is postponing new live tapings of Tiny Desk Concerts. In the meantime, check out Tiny Desk (home) concerts! They’re recorded by the artists in their home. It’s the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space.

June 17, 2020 | Abby O'Neill -- On a brisk February morning, Alicia Keys, full of effervescence, entered NPR through the loading dock wearing a canary yellow faux fur coat. During our ride to the fourth floor, she joked about how she hadn't been invited to play at the Tiny Desk. That, of course, wasn't exactly true. We worked on and off for years to make this moment happen, and I can say wholeheartedly that it was worth the wait.

Alicia Keys has an aura that you can sense the second she enters a room, or in my case, an elevator. She radiates compassion and kindness. This spirit is the key to Keys's songwriting, which is rooted in introspection and mindfulness.

As she approached her piano, a bit surprised at the amount of people in the room, she smiled and remarked over her shoulder, Gee, the Tiny Desk is tiny! She kicked off the set with an uncanny ode to combat the darkness of this moment in American history: Show Me Love, a single she released in 2019. No one could have predicted then how much her lyrics and musical healing would be crucial during this emotionally fraught time of unprecedented political and racial unrest, heightened by three months of quarantine due to a global pandemic.

The stand-out moment during her Tiny Desk was the premiere of Gramercy Park, a song from her upcoming self-titled album, ALICIA, which is set to be released this fall. It's one of those timeless songs that will transcend radio formats and genres, with lyrics that address how utter selflessness and worrying about making everyone happy but yourself can throw your own center askew. The song's spiritual refrain is sure to be a sing-along moment for the rest of Keys's career.

She told the crowd after Gramercy Park that she's struggled with appeasing people her whole life, but she's trying harder now to set boundaries. Luckily for the Tiny Desk audience, that resolution didn't pertain to this concert. After wrapping up what was to be a three-song set with her latest single Underdog, which you may have seen her perform at this year's Grammys, the crowd begged for an encore. After crowdsourcing suggestions, she and her band delivered a riveting rendition of Keys's breakout 2001 single, Fallin'.

The world, now more than ever, needs more love, reflection and accountability – a mantra that's woven into every fiber of Alicia Keys's being and every lyric of her songs.

    Lyrics:

    Ooh
Wait a minute before you tell me anything, how was your day?
    Cause I've been missing
    You by my side, yeah
Did I awake you out of your dreams?
    I'm sorry but I couldn't sleep
    You calm me down
There's something 'bout the sound of your voice
    I-I-I-I'm never never
Never as far away as it may seem, oh
    Soon we'll be together
We'll pick up right where we left off
    Paris, London, Tokyo
There's just one thing that I gotta do

(Hello, tuck you in every night on the phone)
(Hello, tuck you in every night)
And I can hardly take another goodbye
    Baby, won't be long
You're the one that I'm waiting on
(Hello, tuck you in every night on the phone, woah)

Girl I'll be thinking about you worldwide, worldwide, worldwide
Girl I'll be thinking about you worldwide, worldwide, worldwide
(Girl I'll be thinking about you)

Susan Warner is Acting Co-Principal Clarinetist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. During the summer Susan performs with the Prairie Winds Quintet at Madeline Island Chamber Music and in the Sun Valley Music Festival Orchestra, recently featured there as soloist. Susan has also appeared as a substitute musician with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and Grant Park Symphony Orchestra.
Susan has performed at the Tanglewood, Schleswig-Holstein, Heidelberg Castle, Grand Teton, Music Academy of the West, and Aspen festivals. In August 2019 as a member of the Chicago Winds Quintet, Susan, along with her husband CSO hornist David Griffin, toured throughout China where Susan’s growing fluency in Mandarin allowed her to deliver spoken introductions during concerts.

David Griffin is the fourth horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduating from Northwestern University in 1987, Griffin began his career with the Rochester Philharmonic and followed with positions in the orchestras of Montreal and Houston before joining the Chicago Symphony in 1995. Griffin has served as guest principal horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Shanghai Radio Orchestra.

Griffin is artist faculty of French horn at Roosevelt University and has previously taught at McGill University and Northwestern University. Summer festival engagements have included Sun Valley, Grand Teton, Tanglewood, Manchester (VT) and Madeline Island. Griffin has also been a featured artist and clinician at the annual symposium of the International Horn Society.

Susan and David live in Oak Park; together they have homeschooled their children Henry and Pearl, allowing for extensive family travels, most recently to Chile, Antarctica, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Panama, and Turkey.

Henry Griffin studies baritone voice under the tutelage of Marlena Malas at the Manhattan School of Music. For the past two summers Henry has attended the Chautauqua Institute’s Voice Program. As a young boy Henry frequently appeared as boy soprano soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera of Chicago. In addition to singing, Henry is an expert birder with over one thousand birds on his life identification list. He also enjoys studying piano and music composition.

Tian Qin is a candidate for the Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Composition at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Dr. Marjorie Merryman. Her vocal piece, “The Moon,” won the second prize in the vocal category of the Li Ming Chun Xiao China National Composition Competition in 2015. Her trio of traditional Chinese instruments, “Obsessed,” won the second prize of the Yinzhong China National composition competition in 2016. This piece was selected to be performed at the 34th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, as well as the Communication concert of the Xian and Shanghai Music Middle Schools in 2017.

    Rush Hour Concerts
Rush Hour Concerts exists to provide “great music for busy lives” free of charge every Tuesday evening, June through August, at 5:45pm in historic St. James Cathedral in downtown Chicago. In the Summer of 2000, concert pianist and civic leader Deborah Sobol founded the Rush Hour Concert series to reinvent the traditional classical music concert format by presenting chamber music masterworks in an engaging setting, accessible to all. These 30-minute concerts offer unparalleled access to repertoire spanning 700 years, performed by world-class musicians from Chicago’s leading ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago and independent chamber music groups. Informal education via pre-concert conversations about the music with artists, composers and other members of Chicago’s vibrant classical music scene and post-concert opportunities to interact with the performers make for an inviting and invigorating cultural experience.

    International Music Foundation
The International Music Foundation is dedicated to presenting free high-quality classical music performances and music education experiences in the Chicago metropolitan area for people of all ages and degrees of musical awareness so they can experience how music enriches life.

Bob Boilen | April 7, 2017 - Last May, Tash Sultana posted a self-made video, just her in her living room with guitar, laptop and a great song called Jungle. Within five days it had drawn a million views.

This 21-year-old Maltese-Australian got a guitar from her grandfather when she was three, she says, and has played it every day since. It's astonishing to watch Sultana's fluidity on her instrument, like a natural extension of her body. (She also plays bass, saxophone, trumpet, flute and more, but kept it simple at the Tiny Desk.) I thought I had a lot of energy — watching her bounce from guitar to drum machine to two separate microphones — and then hopping barefoot from looping pedal to effect pedal as she builds her songs was exhilarating and exhausting. There's more here than an exercise in virtuosity, her music is filled with adventure and ambition. These songs are rapturous and resonant.

    Tash has just finished a month-long, sold-out U.S. tour.

    DL5 MY FAMILY'S BAND

    DL5 — BIOGRAPHY & BACKGROUND

My Family's Band now in Las Vegas: DL5 - Has existed since the 80's with it's title name THE POKO OKANI MANA & THE FRIENDLY ISLANDERS. It was a source of income for the family and was therefore operated as an entertainment enterprise playing in night clubs, dance halls and other high paid occasions in the Island of Tonga as well in New Zealand, and American Samoa for several years. But now a new generation of the FONUAS is taking the music to a higher level of recognition and style than the Old-Skool stuffs of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's that we used to play. Indeed they are so successful in doing so not only in performing covered songs of any styles, but also their own originals compositions have speak for itself regarding their musicianship and talentship.

True to say The DL5 BAND shows why they are one of the most exciting up and coming bands not only in Utah but also in Las Vegas at present. Their performance and ability to adapt to any kind of musical styles are a strong point. They Seamlessly fuse and netted an array of musical genres into one cohesive sound, this band truly has something for everyone. Their eclectic sound has been a collection of some 20+ years as musicians playing all kinds of music, with their musicianship it isn't hard for them to change from playing Cover music to writing and producing their own songs. Within 10 months they have written and recorded 60 songs, and another 15 more songs are lined up on their menu. They work together as a band from writing to recording instrument tracks.

DL5 Music music is a mosaic collection of songs that embraces a variety of styles and emotions. There are catchy soulful melodies, tender love songs, soulful boasting from all the music they write. Their Album GIVE IT ALL UP with 18 ORIGINAL SONGS on it is impressive and dynamic. Every song is touched with meaningful words and rich musicianship style. The overall variety of this Album shows the depth of the band as well as the talents behind it to have the ability to make it all work together so well in just one year meaning this band means business.

DL5 was formed in early 2004 by a new generation of family's brothers and cousins, but the history of the band has been over 20 years in the making. In the late 80's under the leadership of their father AMINI POKO, DL5 began regularly playing the hotels, bars, night club in the south pacific not limited from the Island of Tonga, but also in Auckland, New Zealand, and had years of contract in American Samoa. 46:36

It’s one of the great ironies of the lockdown: As we’ve been isolated in our homes, technology has brought more of the world to us than at any previous time. The Dorćol Kafana Heroes are a collective of Roma musicians hailing from a Belgrade suburb that’s a traditional cross-cultural melting pot for Serbs, Jews, Hungarians, and, most recently, New Zealanders. Fronted by New Zealand saxophonist Hayden Chisholm, the band consists of the city’s best wedding and kafana (or Ottoman coffeehouse) musicians who play the music of a local violin legend. For Tenacity, the Heroes will perform an exclusive set from one of their home theaters in Dorćol-Kosmodrom, one of the last remaining free theaters fighting to survive among the new investment development in the region.

  • Robert Johnson Said

    6:53

    Ian Archer's Robert Johnson Said.

Ian Archer's lyrics and music for Robert Johnson Said' are inspired by American singer, songwriter, and musician Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938). According to Wikipedia, Johnson's landmark recordings in 1936 and 1937 display a combination of singing, guitar skills, and songwriting talent that has influenced later generations of musicians. Johnson's shadowy life and death at age 27 have given rise to much legend, including the Faustian myth that he sold his soul at a crossroads to achieve success. As an itinerant performer Johnson had little commercial success or public recognition in his lifetime. After a reissue of his recordings in 1961 Johnson's work reached a wider audience. Eric Clapton has called Johnson the most important blues singer that ever lived. In 2010 David Fricke ranked Johnson fifth in Rolling Stone′s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. • Auckland Band Hire | Kid Radio | Gold Digger

    1:19

Kid Radio are unlike any other Auckland band. Their songlist contains no trace of the tired pub hits of yesteryear. Instead, they’ve assembled a repertoire loaded with nothing but pure dynamite - the jams that other bands can’t touch. If names like Prince, Kanye, Stevie, Justin, Luther and Michael mean something to you, this is your band.

The band effortlessly mash up the biggest, baddest hits of pop, hip hop and R’n’B. Featuring dual frontmen Sam Allen and Mal Lakatani on guitars, legendary rhythm section Stephen Thomas and Isaac Etimani on drums and bass and the masterful keyboards and arrangements of Michal Martyniuk, the band have changed the game, setting a new standard for live entertainment in New Zealand.

After a few years of setting dancefloors alight and filling the place to capacity every Friday night at Sale St with The Beat Council, core members Michal, Steve and Sam left that band to form Kid Radio in 2014. The band are now accepting bookings for corporate events and weddings, and look forward to taking your event to the next level.

All songs are by Lloyd Cole apart from ‘Remains’ and ‘When I Came Down From The Mountain’, which were written by Lloyd and Blair Cowan. The album will be available on CD, vinyl, DL and streaming platforms.

Lloyd collaborated with three other musicians on ‘Guesswork’, most notable of whom are two former bandmates – guitarist Neil Clark and keyboard player Blair Cowan – who found themselves working together on an album with Lloyd for the first time since The Commotions’ swansong ‘Mainstream’ in 1987. However anyone expecting a Commotions sound will be on the wrong tack: ‘Guesswork’ is predominantly an ‘electronic’ album. Lloyd, Blair Cowan and another longtime Lloyd associate Fred Maher (drummer on Lloyd’s early solo albums and his last album 2013’s ‘Standards’) have fashioned the ‘Guesswork’ sound from classic and modern keyboard, modular and drum synthesizers, though guitars played by both Lloyd and Neil Clark do feature. Lloyd’s ear for a melody, his lyrical smarts, and his unmistakable voice ensure these songs stand shoulder to shoulder with anything he has previously written.

    “I might just stop breathing
I might just stop keeping time
    With the violins
Or I might come out swinging
And what if I sang out of key
    With the violins?”
    Violins

Says Lloyd: “When I was 27, the concept of the washed up older guy seemed very entertaining. Now I’m starting to think that old age could be a lot more fun. Because really what have we got to lose?”

The portrait of Lloyd that graces the cover of ‘Guesswork’ is by Glasgow Art School graduate and former singer of The Big Dish, Steven Lindsay.

Lloyd Cole will tour the UK and Ireland in October. Neil Clark will accompany him. The full list of dates is:

I'm a 21-year-old busker and performer. Born and raised in the Philippines, I moved to Australia three years ago to study at the University of Queensland. It was here in Australia that I began busking and overcame my shyness. I've got a handful of original songs. My music video for one of my songs, Ophidia, was featured on MTV Australia. I've also performed covers with my friends at King George Square for Citra Malaysia and Pesta Rakyat. When I busk, I'd like to say that I play music from the 50s to 70s; but honestly, I mostly play Beatles and ABBA songs when I busk.

Treading Water by Eli Dan of Melbourne
Eli Dan is a Melbourne based songwriting duo comprised of Danny Hacket and Elisha Apurado. In 2014, Elisha and Danny started writing whilst working on Danny’s solo project and instantly they formed an undeniable chemistry for writing lyrics and music. Through the years, they have written songs with numerous local and international artists and now, they are putting their own names to the songs they write. Although both immensely talented when it comes to performance, in late 2018, they decided that Elisha would be tasked with bringing their songs to life on the stage. Although both deriving from different backgrounds, they have come together to be unashamed storytellers. They write and deliver their music from a place of honesty that connects with their audience on a deeper level. Their debut single, Treading Water, comes from a place of heartache and self-realization in the face of adversity. With an electronic/pop/ballad feel, Treading Water borrows from artists such as Billie Eilish and One Republic.

  • Will You Love Me Tomorrow

    5:52

Great Songwriters / Carol King / Gerry Goffin

Will You Love Me Tomorrow, sometimes known as Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow[1], is a song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King. It was originally recorded in 1960 by the Shirelles, who took their single to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is also notable for being the first song by a black all-girl group to reach number one in the United States.[2] It has since been recorded by many artists over the years, including a 1971 version by co-writer Carole King.

In 1960, the American girl group the Shirelles released the first version of the song as Scepter single 1211, with Boys on the B-side. The single's first pressing was labelled simply Tomorrow, then lengthened later. When first presented with the song, lead singer Shirley Owens (later known as Shirley Alston-Reeves) did not want to record it, because she thought it was too country. She relented after a string arrangement was added. However, Owens recalled on Jim Parsons' syndicated oldies radio program, Shake Rattle Showtime, that some radio stations had banned the record because they had felt the lyrics were too sexually charged. The song is in AABA form.[3]
    Reception[edit]

In addition to reaching #1 in the U.S., the song also reached #2 on the R&B chart and #4 in the UK. It reached #3 in New Zealand.[4] This version of the song, with session musicians Paul Griffin on piano and Gary Chester on drums, as of 2009 was ranked as the 162nd greatest song of all time, as well as the best song of 1960, by Acclaimed Music.[5] It was ranked at #126 among Rolling Stone 's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Billboard named the song #3 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.[6]

The song later appeared on the soundtracks of Michael Apted's Stardust, Emile Ardolino's Dirty Dancing, and Tony Scott's True Romance.[7]

In 1971 Carole King, the co-writer of the song, recorded a version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow for her landmark studio album Tapestry, with Joni Mitchell and James Taylor performing background vocals on separate audio channels.[9] King's version of the song was taken at a considerably slower tempo. David Hepworth analyzed it as less like the pleas for gentleness on the part of a trembling virgin and more like a mature woman requiring parity in a relationship.[9] It gained considerable album-oriented rock airplay due to the large-scale commercial success of the album.
The song became a feature of King's live shows. Taylor recreated his part during their joint arena-based Troubadour Reunion Tour of 2010.
In the 1984 comedy Police Academy Blankes and Copeland dance to the song in the Blue Oyster Bar.

In the 2013 Broadway Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the song is featured in part four times: once during its writing, once during King recording a demo of it, then with the Shirelles performing it, and then King singing and playing it later during an especially bad time in her marriage with Goffin. No other song is featured as frequently in the musical.

Bertell Dache, a black demo singer for the Brill Building lyricists, recorded an answer song entitled Not just Tomorrow, But Always.[8] It has been claimed by some historians that Dache was a pseudonym for Epic recording artist Tony Orlando[citation needed], whose recording of the original song had not been released as Don Kirshner thought the lyric was convincing only as sung by a woman. However, an ad for United Artists Records which appeared in Billboard during 1961 featured a photo of the singer which indicated that Dache was not Tony Orlando.[citation needed]
The Satintones, an early Motown group, also recorded an answer song called Tomorrow and Always, which used the same melody as the original but initially neglected to credit King and Goffin. Following a threat of litigation, later pressings of the record included proper credit. Eventually, it was withdrawn and replaced with a different song. The Satintones' versions are included in the box set The Complete Motown Singles, Volume 1: 1959–1961.

    From Wikipedia:

Superstar is a 1969 song written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell with a songwriting credit also given to Delaney Bramlett that has been a hit for many artists in different genres and interpretations in the years since; the best-known version is by the Carpenters in 1971.

    Original Delaney and Bonnie version

Rita Coolidge came up with this song based on observing female groupies' relationships with rock stars of the late 1960s.

In its first recorded incarnation, the song was called Groupie (Superstar), and was recorded and released as a B-side to the Delaney & Bonnie single Comin' Home in December 1969. Released by Atlantic Records, the full credit on the single was to Delaney & Bonnie and Friends Featuring Eric Clapton.

Comin' Home reached number 84 on the US pop singles chart, although it achieved a peak of sixteen on the UK Singles Chart.

The original version finally surfaced on an album in 1972 when D&B Together was released, shortly before their marriage and collaboration ended. This version was also included as a bonus track on a 2006 reissue of the 1970 album Eric Clapton.

Bonnie Bramlett later re-recorded the song on her 2002 solo album I'm Still the Same. Now using just the Superstar title, she rendered it this time as a very slow, piano-based torch song.
    Carpenters version

The song Superstar became most popular after its treatment by the Carpenters. Richard Carpenter became aware of the song after watching Bette Midler sing the song on the February 15, 1971 edition of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Produced by Richard Carpenter with Jack Daugherty, it was recorded with members of The Wrecking Crew, a famed collection of Los Angeles area session musicians. As the song's storyline was originally more risqué than what was typical for the Carpenters, Richard changed a lyric in the second verse from And I can hardly wait/To sleep with you again to the somewhat less suggestive And I can hardly wait/To be with you again. The track was finished in one take.

Karen Carpenter's vocal was praised for its intensity and emotional nature. David Hepworth commented about Karen Carpenter's performance: Even with only half her mind on the job, she delivered a perfect performance. The guide vocal never needed to be replaced.

The duo's rendition was included on the May 1971 album Carpenters, and then released as a single in August 1971, rising to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart (held out of the top spot by Rod Stewart's Maggie May), and spending two weeks at number one on the Easy Listening chart that autumn and earned gold record status.[6] It also reached number 18 on the UK pop singles chart and did well in Australia and New Zealand as well.

  • Robert Johnson Said

    5:46
