FM Records is one of the largest and most important independent Greek music labels. It was founded in 1987 and has perhaps the most versatile musical back catalogue in the country, which includes famous Greek composers (Mikis Theodorakis etc.), traditional repertoire (rebetika, folk, music from the islands, ancient Greek music, etc.), electronic music (Stereo Nova etc.), hip hop (Imiskoumbria, Going Through, Terror X Crew etc.), Greek pop & rock (Endelehia, Ipogia Revmata etc.), world music (Nicos, Vasilis Saleas, Goran Bregovic, Vangelis etc.) as well as many recent releases by young and talented Greek artists.

Among the 30.000 songs of the catalogue there are many instrumentals, which are perfectly suited and available for synchronisation opportunities, with many of these songs included in well known films, documentaries and TV ads. 1. Allegro
    2. Adagio molto cantabile
    3. Allegretto

    Orchestra of Colors
    Miltos Logiadis, conductor

Petros Petrides (1892-1977) was an eminent Greek composer, conductor and scholar. It was generally self-taught in music (he studied by himself fugues by Bach), his work appears to be quite idiosyncratic and personal, deeply influenced by the Byzantine and greek folk melodies.

The music on my channel is meant to introduce a large audience to music by unknown classical composers and unknown classical music by famous composers in the music period of about 1870 till about 1970.
The program presents works by relatively unknown composers and unknown music by well-known composers and has no commercial purposes.
Tens of thousands of people around the world learn about unknown music through our channel (educational task) and unite the people from the many countries who give their comments and reactions. If someone, for any reason, would deem that a video appearing in this channel violates the copyright, please inform us immediately before you submit a claim to YouTube, and it will be our care to remove immediately the video accordingly.

  • Poros Piano Academy 2016 - Greek Contemporary Music - Konstantinos Destounis

    21:53

Konstantinos performed Entrata (1983) by Theodore Antoniou, followed by Jettatura (1999) by John Psathas, (at 16:50) bringing a contemporary touch to the evening concert at the Blue Siren Auditorium on August 25, 2016. The applause at the end demonstrates clearly how much the audience enjoyed the program.

    The Works..................................................................................

In his piano work “Entrata” (1983), Theodore Antoniou combines elements of the Greek musical tradition with modern compositional techniques, such as atonality and 12-tone series. A grandiose introduction is followed by several episodes, which are built upon the Greek popular folk rhythm of Zeibekiko (9/8). In addition, the composer experiments on various sound effects that the piano is able to produce. He makes use of extended techniques, such as massive clusters, muted notes, scratch notes, glissandos on the strings, the “Aeolian Harp”, striking the strings with the palm as well as putting a piece of paper on the strings in order to alter the timbre of the piano.

The composer and conductor Theodore Antoniou (b. 1935) is one of the most highly acclaimed Greek musicians, with international recognition and multitude of awards. He is the president of the Greek Composers’ Union, an Emeritus Professor of the Boston University and a member of the Academy of Athens.

Jettatura (1999), the “evil eye”, is the ancient belief that the gaze of strangers casts unwanted magic into the lives of the innocent. The belief is that a person can harm you by looking at you enviously and praising you. When John Psathas spent time in Greece in the summer of 1998, he experienced a remarkable sequence of unfortunate events. Upon being tested by the local specialist in these matters, it was discovered that he had indeed fallen under the influence of the “evil eye”. Characteristic elements of the piece are the use of Greek folk rhythms and modes, the improvisational feel of jazz music and the sustained repetitive textures of minimalism.

John Psathas, ONZM (b.1966) is a New Zealand composer, son of Greek immigrant parents. He has not only achieved a level of international success as a composer unprecedented in New Zealand history, he is also now widely considered one of the most important living composers of the Greek diaspora.

  • Manolis Kalomiris, Symphony No 1 Levendia, Op 21

    1. Maestoso patetico
    2. Lento
    3. Scherzo: vivo
    4. Finale: maestoso

    Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra
    Mitiades Caridis, conductor

    (Live recording: Vienna/Wien, Oct. 31 1986, Musikverein)

Manolis Kalomiris (Greek: Μανώλης Καλομοίρης; December 14, 1883, Smyrna – April 3, 1962, Athens) was a Greek classical composer. He was the founder of the Greek National School of Music.
Born in Smyrna, he attended school in Constantinople and studied piano and composition in Vienna. After working for a few years as a piano teacher in Kharkov (then Russia and now Ukraine) he settled in Athens. An admirer of Richard Wagner, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Kostis Palamas, and Nikos Kazantzakis, he set himself the life goal of establishing a Greek national school of music, based on the ideas of the Russian national composers, on western musical achievements and on modern Greek folk music, poetry and myth. He thus founded in 1919 the Hellenic Conservatory and in 1926 the National Conservatoire. He wrote three symphonies and five operas, one piano concerto and one violin concertino, other symphonic works, chamber music and numerous songs and piano works. He held various public posts and was elected member of the Academy of Athens. A passionate composer, he has a personal post romantic idiom characterised by his rich harmonies and orchestrations, complex counterpoint, his long eastern melodies and the frequent use of Greek folk rhythms. A preoccupation with love and death transcends all five of his music dramas.

  • Erik Satie - Gymnopédies

    15:46

    Erik Satie - Gymnopédie No.1

Satie was introduced as a gymnopedist in 1887, shortly before writing his most famous compositions, the Gymnopédies. Later, he also referred to himself as a phonometrograph or phonometrician (meaning someone who measures (and writes down) sounds) preferring this designation to that of musician, after having been called a clumsy but subtle technician in a book on contemporary French composers published in 1911.

Éric Alfred Leslie Satie (French: [eʁik sati];[1] 17 May 1866 – 1 July 1925), who signed his name Erik Satie after 1884, was a French composer and pianist. Satie was an influential artist in the late 19th- and early 20th-century Parisian avant-garde. His work was a precursor to later artistic movements such as minimalism, repetitive music, and the Theatre of the Absurd

Satie was a colourful figure in the early 20th century Parisian avant-garde. He was a precursor to later artistic movements such as minimalism, repetitive music and the Theatre of the Absurd.
The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist, Erik Satie.

Since 1911 he had been on friendly terms with Igor Stravinsky, about whom he would later write articles.Le piège de Méduse (1913) had a unique position in Satie's oeuvre, as it was a stage work conceived and composed seemingly without any collaboration with other artists.Sports et divertissements was a kind of multi-media project, in which Satie provided piano music to drawings made by Charles Martin. The work was composed in 1914, but not published or performed until the early 1920s. The individual pieces are characteristic Satie miniatures: in all, there are twenty pieces - none over two minutes in length, and some as short as 15 seconds. He got in trouble over an insulting postcard he had written to one of his critics shortly after the premiere of Parade; he was condemned to a week of imprisonment, but was finally released as a result of the (financial) intercession of Winnaretta Singer, Princess Edmond de Polignac.Singer, who had learnt Ancient Greek when she was over 50, had commissioned a work on Socrates in October 1916; this would become his Socrate, which he presented early in 1918 to the Princess.

  • greek music - my soul ; composer and singer- xronis alexis pothitakis

    4:02

All my life, walking and wanting
    What my body was commanding
    Never needed my dreams
    Never painted my sings
    Outside and Inside

    walking alone inside me...
on the empty streets of my life
    having all that i wanted
and nothing at all that i've dreamed

what strange feelings are coming to me?
' they ' tell me loud, to stop !
and to search with care, inside me...
    where did my soul, go?

life took me, like a so strong wave
carrying me in so strange places
    forgeting rules, forgeting me
    forgeting about my destiny

what strange feelings are coming now?
' they ' tell me loud, to stop!

i left my soul home, to sleep
when i'm hiding out from me
my desires, in my pocket i keep
and my dreams are down, in the sea
shell i reach them one day?
    where did my soul go?
all my life is an empty bed
i go to search my soul

    i take my soul
    i take his needs
    and i keep going
    on my feets
and to search with care inside me
    remember me, my destiny
    i take my soul
    i take his needs

    life took me
    like a strong wave
carrying me in so strange places
    i take my soul
    i take his needs
and i keep going on my feets
let go what i lived, let go what i lived
my soul is talking with me

    let go what i lived
my soul is talking to me....
