Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 – June 3, 1899), was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as The Waltz King, and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Strauss was admired by other prominent composers: Richard Wagner once admitted that he liked the waltz Wein, Weib und Gesang Op. 333. Johannes Brahms was a personal friend of Strauss; the latter dedicated his waltz Be Embraced, You Millions!, Op. 443, to him.

UPDATE: Due to several comments asking for a decent quality version of this clip, I'm pleased to offer the full HD version for your viewing pleasure.

I uploaded the original as a low bit rate, low resolution quickie, due to having a lousy internet connection where I was at the time. A big regret now, given that the clip went crazy viral - but how was I to know??

So here it is, (link below) in full HD 1080p glory, along with a slightly remixed audio - a little more of the ambient camera sound, because the disbelievers out there are convinced this was over-dubbed, somehow. As well as the camera built in (rubbish) audio, I placed a Zoom H4n stereo recorder just behind the piano to record good quality sound with less of the background noise audible, to later sync in post production. This resulted in also picking up the sound of broken strings inside the piano, which many people are convinced is the sound of a hidden percussionist somewhere, playing a hi-hat, and therefore it must be an overdub fake studio recording setup or something! Well, it ain't.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791) was a prolific and influential composer of the classical era.
Born in Salzburg, Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. Mozart was engaged as a musician at the Salzburg court, but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of his early death at the age of 35. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized.

He composed more than 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers, and his influence is profound on subsequent Western art music. Ludwig van Beethoven composed his own early works in the shadow of Mozart, and Joseph Haydn wrote: posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years.

    Order now: 2CD The Rock Legend: | CD The Composer: | DVD: | Blu-ray: | Box-Set:

On April 4, 2014, some of the best-loved musicians in the world assembled at the Royal Albert Hall to pay tribute to one of the most-missed musicians of them all: Jon Lord. “Celebrating Jon Lord” will be released as 1CD – The Composer, 2CD – The Rock Legend, 2DVD, Blu-ray, Box Set and Download on September 26th, 2014 on earMUSIC.
All product configurations feature individual cover artworks.

The Box Set features – besides the Blu-ray, 1CD The Composer and 2CD The Rock Legend – an exclusive T-shirt, a two-sided reproduction of an excerpt of Jon Lord’s original, handwritten music score for “Sarabande” - signed by Paul Mann as well as a 20 page reproduction of the evening’s original show program.
On top and as a real collector’s item, the box set also includes two very special 7-inch vinyls: the first featuring the hypnotic live version of Deep Purple’s classic “You Keep On Moving” with Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Micky Moody and on the B-side “Soldier Of Fortune”, both taken from the 2CD – The Rock Legend.
The second 7-inch vinyl stands in the tradition of Deep Purple as it includes the band’s touching live version of “Above And Beyond” originally from the no 1 album “NOW What?!” and here included in the magic Sunflower Jam 2014 live performance – a song dedicated to and inspired by Jon Lord. The B-side is dedicated to Lord‘s “Fantasia”.

Divided in two parts – the first focused on the classical music compositions, so dear to Jon Lord, and the second featuring a crescendo of emotions going through some of his highlights as a rock musician – the concert gave fans a chance to relive Jon Lord's remarkable and extensive musical career, remembering music from Paice, Ashton Lord, Deep Purple, his later classical compositions and everything in between – all in aid for the charity organization The Sunflower Jam.

    A. We play on instruments from the time of the composers, and we use the original music and playing techniques: it’s a special sound.
In March of 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach carefully inked six of his best concertos into a book for the Margrave of Brandenburg, Christian Ludwig. The original title, Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments is now known as the Brandenburg Concertos in English or Brandenburgische Konzerte in German.
These six concertos represent the summa of chamber music in the high baroque period, and the third concerto (BWV 1048) is noted for its rich texture of three violins, three violas and three cellos, with a continuo part for the harpsichord and violone. The original title is as follows: Concerto 3zo [terzo] a tre Violini, tre Viole, è tre Violoncelli col Basso per il Cembalo. On the continuo part, Bach has written Violone & Cembalo, and this is how it is performed in the video, just as it is indicated in the original manuscript.
This concerto is part of the Voices of Music Great Works project. A Creative Commons edition of the score, based on the composer's manuscript, will be published to accompany the complete recording, and the recording will be available worldwide on Blu-Ray and CD, and for free on MP3 and high-definition, 24 bit FLAC files.

    Chocolate Rain
    Seldom mentioned on the radio
    Chocolate Rain
Its the fear your leaders call control

    Chocolate Rain
Worse than swearing worse than calling names
    Chocolate Rain
Say it publicly and you're insane

    Chocolate Rain
No one wants to hear about it now
    Chocolate Rain
Wish real hard it goes away somehow

    Chocolate Rain
Makes the best of friends begin to fight
    Chocolate Rain
But did they know each other in the light?

    Chocolate Rain
    Every February washed away
    Chocolate Rain
    Stays behind as colors celebrate

    Chocolate Rain
The same crime has a higher price to pay
    chocolate Rain
The judge and jury swear it's not the face

    (Chorus)

    Chocolate Rain
    Dirty secrets of economy
    Chocolate Rain
    Turns that body into GDP

    Chocolate Rain
The bell curve blames the baby's DNA
    Chocolate Rain
But test scores are how much the parents make

    Chocolate Rain
'Flippin cars in France the other night
    Chocolate Rain
Cleans the sewers out beneath Mumbai

    Chocolate Rain
'Cross the world and back its all the same
    Chocolate Rain
Angels cry and shake their heads in shame

    Chocolate Rain
Lifts the ark of paradise in sin
    Chocolate Rain
Which part do you think you're 'livin in?

    Chocolate Rain
More than 'marchin more than passing law
    Chocolate Rain
Remake how we got to where we are.

    (Chorus)

    ▶▶▶ Bio ◀◀◀

Multi-Instrumentalist Reinhardt Buhr has composed 16 albums in 10 years time.

At the end of 2019, his work went viral through social media, averaging over 4 million views
per month, and the numbers continue to rise.

Reinhardt combines the Laser Harp, Spanish Guitar, Electric Guitar, Electric Cello, Australian didgeridoo, Israeli Shofar, Spanish Cajon, Synthesizers and Piano via a live looping system to create an extraordinary symphonic orchestral sound in only a one-man improvisational act.

Reinhardt Buhr was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1988 and grew up with
no passion for music at all, In fact, as a teenager, he became a computer gamer and
began abusing alcohol at a very young age. His first job was at a small liquor store, where he earned 20 cents an hour. After that, he worked as a packer in a supermarket. His plan of
becoming an animator failed when he started abusing marijuana and alcohol on a
    regular basis.

At the age of 19, two of his closest friends began learning the guitar. Reinhardt
immediately fell in love with it. With no formal training, the three friends simply
taught themselves how to play. A year later, Reinhardt was inspired by a Flamenco
guitar player, and began learning Flamenco Rumba Guitar from YouTube videos.
One day, he was sitting at a small roadside steak restaurant with his parents, and
there was a man playing solo guitar covers. Reinhardt approached him to make
small talk and the owner of the restaurant overheard that Reinhardt played a bit of
    Spanish Guitar music.

So the owner asked Reinhardt “Why don’t you come back next week to play, and I
will give you a steak and 10 dollars in return?” So Reinhardt Buhr played his first
solo Spanish guitar gig that following weekend and hasn’t stopped since.
Reinhardt Buhr quickly became known around South Africa and formed a duo
band called “Wild Lettuce”. He and the drummer performed many national
tours. They also opened for a lot of great artists. But unfortunately, Reinhardt fell
into a dark habit of abusing alcohol, drugs, and cocaine.

This affected him, his career, and everyone around him in a very negative way.
The band broke up. Reinhardt Buhr went solo and left his hometown, hoping to
escape the drug scene, only to find himself moving in with someone who also had
a cocaine problem. The whole cycle started over again.

At the end of 2016, Reinhardt hit an all-time low. He was at the point of death. He
fell on his knees and pleaded with God to step into his broken life. When things
could not get any worse, God in His full mercy and grace, stepped in and changed
his life completely. Reinhardt and his wife, Mandie Buhr, both experienced God’s
salvation and were baptized together. They left a lifestyle of cigarettes, marijuana,
alcohol, and drugs, and began on a beautiful road of salvation and healing.
During the biggest transition of his life, Reinhardt was playing a gig one day. As
he was playing for hundreds of people, He felt a voice telling him to make music
for God. When Reinhardt made the shift from playing for fame and fortune to
playing for Christ Jesus, everything about his music changed! You can even see
the transition from his earlier album called “Organic 432hz”, to his latest album
    entitled “The Final Movement”.

To this day, Reinhardt Buhr makes music to God. This is his way of worshiping
His Creator and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

    Lyrics:
    [Produced by Joel Little]

    [Verse 1]
I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address
In a torn up town, no postcode envy

    [Pre-Chorus]
    But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
    But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
    Let me live that fantasy

    [Verse 2]
My friends and I, we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows
    That we're fine with this
    We didn't come from money

    [Pre-Chorus]
    But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
    But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
    Let me live that fantasy

    [Bridge]
    (Oh, oh-oh)
We're bigger than we ever dreamed
And I'm in love with being queen
    (Oh, oh-oh)
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair

    [Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee

  • Ork. Golda i Petersburskiego - PATO, tango argentyńskie 1929

    3:09

Orkiestra A. Golda & J. Petersburskiego- Pato, Tango Argentyńskie (Ramón Collazo), Syrena-Electro 1929

NOTE: Ramón COLLAZO (El Loro) (b. 1901 in Montevideo d. 1981 in Montevideo) an Uruguayian musician, composer and pianist. His two famous tangos were Hombrecito and Pato (1926) recorded for Victor by Rosita Quiroga and Carlos Gardel.

A lot of information and recordings of two kings of dance music in interwar Poland: Artur Gold and his cousin Jerzy Petersburski, is available in YT. Their mothers were two sisters from the famous multi-generation klezmer Warsaw family Melodysta. The number of hits they both composed is incountable: to mention only Artur Gold's Oczy czarne (Eyes Of Black) , Szkoda twoich łez dziewczyno (What A Waste Are Your Tears, Girl) , Jesienne róże (Autumn Roses) , Gdzie Twoje serce (Where's Your Heart) , Ta mała jest wstawiona (She's Tipsy, That Little Gal) and Jerzy Patersburski's Tango Milonga (Oh, Donna Clara) , Ja się boję sama spać (I'm Afraid To Sleep Alone), To ostatnia niedziela (It's the Last Sunday) , Śpiewaj (Sing!) , Odrobinę szczęścia w miłości (Just To Have A Little Luck In Love) , Cztery nogi (Four Legs) . In 1926 they started performing together as Orkiestra Golda i Petersburskiego (Gold & Petersburski's Band) imediately occupying first place on the list of dance bands of Warsaw of the Roaring Twenties. They played at cabaret Qui pro Quo and in two most fashionable night bars of Warsaw, Oaza and Adria. The shimmy-fox Gdy Petersburski razem z Goldem gra (Nie zaśniesz przez noc aż do dnia) (When Gold and Petersburski play together/ you won't sleep through the night until the dawn) was a great hit of Poland of the year 1927

In 1930s they both continued their careers, yet individually, issuing hit after hit and conducting various bands. On the contrary to his cousin, Jerzy Petersburski's new area of interest became film music: he composed for the hit comedies, like Co mój mąż robi w nocy (What My Husband Does At Nights?), Robert i Bertrand (Robert And Bertrand), Szczęśliwa 13tka (A Lucky Thirteen) or Królowa przedmieścia (Queen Of The Suburb).

In September 1939 he was mobilized and he fought against German invasion on Poland in the air artillery near Bialystok. After the collapse of the Polish defense and in the days of the Soviet invasion on Poland (17 September 1939) he managed to push his way down to Lwow, where he joined another two Warsaw musicians: Henryk Wars and Henryk Gold (who was Artur's brother). For a year they toured in USSR playing in various bands and composing. (A very helphul circumstance for Petersburski was fact, that he was a composer of It's The Last Sunday - the tango so popular in USSR that until today it's considered by many Russians as their own hit of the 1930s). After Sikorski-Stalin pact of cooperation with the Western Alllied Forces, Jerzy Petersburski left Soviet Russia and with other musicians performed for the newly established Polish Emigree Army in Iran and then in the Middle East. After 1945, when it was clear that after Yalta Pact Poland would not regain independence, he left Europe for South America. However, 10 years before his death, he returned in 1968 to Warsaw, where he was busy preparing tv shows and recordings, based upon his early compositions.

Artur Gold was less lucky. He shared fate of most of Polish Jews who did not leave the capital city in the right time. In German-occupied Warsaw, in 1940, he had to move straight from his apartment in Chmielna St. to the nazi-administered Ghetto area, where for a couple of years he earned his living by playing in Cafe Nowoczesna. In 1943 he was transported to Treblinka, where before his death in a gas chamber, to ridicule his position as one of the finest Polish musicians, he was forced by his nazi-opressors to organize a band, that - dressed in clown-like frocks - played on the podium to accompany, with the Viennese waltzes or tangos, Arthur Gold was the author of, a long line of people led from the transport wagons to their death.

Some members of Gold & Petersburski Orchestra: Artur Gold (violin, director of the orchestra), Jerzy Petersburski (piano, director of the orchestra), Bronisław Bykowski (violin), Bazyli Jakowenko (double bass), Kazimierz Roczyński (drums), Leo Szulc (banjo).

  • Daniil Trifonov: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

    15:40

Jan. 12, 2018 | Tom Huizenga -- When we invited Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov to play a Tiny Desk concert, we rolled out the big guns. In place of the trusty upright, we wedged a 7-foot grand piano behind Bob Boilen's desk in preparation for the artist who The Times of London called without question the most astounding pianist of our age.

That's a pretty lofty claim, but watch and judge for yourself. His performance here is extraordinary. Still in his 20s, Trifonov seems to have it all: jaw-dropping technique and interpretive skills beyond his age. He's also a composer — the night before his NPR visit, he played his own knuckle-twisting piano concerto at the Kennedy Center here in Washington, D.C.

But for his Tiny Desk show, Trifonov focused on Chopin, beginning with the mercurial Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, a work that mixes sweeping melody, turbulent passion and wistful repose. Hunching close over the keyboard with feline agility, Trifonov's slender fingers glide effortlessly. He coaxes the instrument to sing tenderly in the slow central section.

Trifonov follows with a pair of short tributes to Chopin by his peers. Robert Schumann's Chopin accentuates the lyrical side of Chopin, filtered through the German composer's forward-looking harmonies, while Edvard Grieg's Hommage à Chopin offers volatility, lovingly rendered.

The smartly programmed set is capped with more Chopin, but with a nod to Mozart: the finale from a set of variations based on an aria from Don Giovanni. It gives Trifonov a chance to display his lightness of touch, plus a few pianistic fireworks. Smiling, he treats the tricky filigreed runs and hand crossings as if it were a child's game. Look closely and you can see the piano shake.

  • Miles Davis - Tutu

    17:25

From the mid-fifties to his death in the early nineties, Miles Davis was universally recognised as one of the most innovative musicians working in Jazz. He was also one of the most popular with his albums regularly breaking into the pop charts and he picked up a total of eight Grammy Awards. He also launched the careers of many jazz musicians including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin and many more. This concert, filmed in Munich in 1987, followed the release of his Grammy Award winning album Tutu and the set list features two tracks from that record, the title track and Portia, plus his unique arrangements of Michael Jackson's Human Nature and Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time.

    Unter unserem Himmel
    Zwischen den Jahren
The young musicians in Bavaria and neighboring Alpine regions have one thing above all: enjoy making music.

On the Austrian border between Kössen Schleching and where the Tiroler Ache leaves in a narrow gorge of the Chiemgau Alps, the Sanctuary Klobenstein lies with the guest house below. This is where young musicians to sing and play in the days between Christmas and before New Year's. The singers and musicians are from the area around the lake, and from the Rupertigau from Miesbacher country. Not only mood music but fine trumpet sounds dominate Virginia Blos', a young, sassy dance music band from the northern area of the Chiemgau.

Directly from the Seeberg Schleching dirndl with it. And three zithers and a counterpoint guitar plays the Kerschbam Zithermusi on very skillfully. Susanne Brueckner through the Hoagascht and talks to the musicians, innkeepers and guests. It turns out that most young musicians not only know each other, but also their affection to the improvised Zsammspuin have.

  • Flaco Jimenez: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

    10:31

    by FELIX CONTRERAS

Watching Flaco Jimenez play his button accordion is like looking back in time. His grandfather started playing an accordion in cantinas and family parties along the Texas/Mexican border around the late 1800s. Then Flaco's dad, Santiago Jimenez Sr., carried on the family tradition when he released his first record in 1936.

Two of the songs you hear Flaco Jimenez play in this Tiny Desk Concert are traditional German polkas; they were popular in the mid-1800s as German immigrants settled in Texas before it became part of the U.S. almost 20 years later. Over time, the two-step stayed the same, but the German lyrics were replaced by the Mexican storytelling song form known as corridos.

But Jimenez is no dusty relic; he's very much of the here and now. For almost six decades, he's carried on those traditions and taken them to places neither his grandfather nor his father could ever imagine. He's played with The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson and Ry Cooder; he's toured the world and won Grammys. He's become a symbol of ethnic pride among Mexican-Americans for not only preserving the conjunto sound, but also moving it forward.

Listen closely to this recording: I think the secret to Jimenez's longevity lies in the short bursts of improvisation in between verses he shares with bajo sexto player Max Baca, of the Grammy-winning band Los Texmaniacs. (The two have an album due out in the spring.) The notes seem to spin and strut just as the dancers do in the serious conjunto dance halls. There's a stutter here, a jazz-like riff there, and when he extends the notes and holds them playfully, I recall my own mother teaching me to spin her in a tight pirouette at family weddings and quinceñeras.

Jimenez was able to perform a Tiny Desk Concert because he had traveled to Washington, D.C., from his home in San Antonio to receive a Heritage Fellowship awarded by the National Endowment of the Arts. He was being honored for carrying on what his grandfather and so many other conjunto musicians have been doing for more than a century: getting people on the dance floor with an accordion and a song.

  • Lloyd Cole Night Sweats Lyric Video - Album Guesswork out now!

    Pre-order Guesswork:
    _____________
Lloyd Cole will release his new album ‘Guesswork’ on 26th July ’19 on the earMUSIC label. Recorded (mostly) in his attic studio in Massachusetts, ‘Guesswork’ is produced by Lloyd and mixed by maverick German producer Olaf Opal, with executive production from Chris Hughes. The record was mastered by Kai Blankenberg at Skyline Tonfabrik in Dusseldorf.

The full tracklisting of ‘Guesswork’ is

    1. The Over Under
    2. Night Sweats
    3. Violins
    4. Remains
    5. The Afterlife
    6. Moments and Whatnot
    7. When I Came Down From The Mountain
    8. The Loudness Wars

All songs are by Lloyd Cole apart from ‘Remains’ and ‘When I Came Down From The Mountain’, which were written by Lloyd and Blair Cowan. The album will be available on CD, vinyl, DL and streaming platforms.

Lloyd collaborated with three other musicians on ‘Guesswork’, most notable of whom are two former bandmates – guitarist Neil Clark and keyboard player Blair Cowan – who found themselves working together on an album with Lloyd for the first time since The Commotions’ swansong ‘Mainstream’ in 1987. However, anyone expecting a Commotions sound will be on the wrong track: ‘Guesswork’ is predominantly an ‘electronic’ album. Lloyd, Blair Cowan and another longtime Lloyd associate Fred Maher (drummer on Lloyd’s early solo albums and his last album 2013’s ‘Standards’) have fashioned the ‘Guesswork’ sound from classic and modern keyboard, modular and drum synthesizers, though guitars played by both Lloyd and Neil Clark do feature. Lloyd’s ear for a melody, his lyrical smarts, and his unmistakable voice ensure these songs stand shoulder to shoulder with anything he has previously written.

    “I might just stop breathing
I might just stop keeping time
    With the violins
Or I might come out swinging
And what if I sang out of key
    With the violins?”
    Violins

Says Lloyd: “When I was 27, the concept of the washed up older guy seemed very entertaining. Now I’m starting to think that old age could be a lot more fun. Because really what have we got to lose?”

The portrait of Lloyd that graces the cover of ‘Guesswork’ is by Glasgow Art School graduate and former singer of The Big Dish, Steven Lindsay.

Lloyd Cole will tour the UK and Ireland in October. Neil Clark will accompany him. The full list of dates is:

  • Luckenback, Texas

    5:03

Buck Billo and Mary sing Luckenback, Texas by Waylon Jennings.
    Waylon Jennings live:
Luckenbach is an unincorporated community thirteen miles (19 km) from Fredericksburg in southeastern Gillespie County, Texas, United States, part of the Texas Hill Country. It consists of 9.142 acres (37,000 m2) between South Grape Creek (a tributary of the Pedernales River) and Snail Creek, just south of U.S. Highway 290 on the south side of Farm to Market Road 1376. This location is roughly 50 miles (80 km) north of San Antonio and 69 miles (111 km) west of Austin.

On December 15, 1847, a petition was submitted to create Gillespie County. In 1848, the legislature formed Gillespie County from Bexar and Travis counties. For more details on this topic, see List of Petitioners to Create Gillespie County, Texas. While the signers were overwhelmingly German immigrants, names also on the petition were Castillo, Pena, Munos, and a handful of non-German Anglo names.

Its oldest building is a combination general store and saloon reputedly opened in 1849 (1886 is more likely based on land improvement records of the state library) by Minna Engel, whose father was an itinerant preacher from Germany. The community, first named Grape Creek, was later named after Minna's husband, Carl Albert Luckenbach, who was then her fiance; they would later move to another town which became Albert, Texas. Luckenbach was first established as a community trading post and was one of the few that never broke a peace treaty with the Comanche Indians, with whom they traded.

Citizens of the town claimed one of them (Jacob Brodbeck) had launched the first airplane years before the Wright Brothers. Its population increased to a high of 492 in 1904, but by the 1960s, Luckenbach was almost a ghost town. An ad in the paper offering town — pop. 3 — for sale led Hondo Crouch, rancher and Texas folklorist, to buy Luckenbach for $30,000 in 1970, in partnership with Kathy Morgan and actor Guich Koock. Hondo used the town's rights as a municipality to govern the dance hall as he saw fit.

Today the town maintains a ghost town feel with its small population and strong western roots. One of its two main buildings houses a post office, saloon, and general store. The other is the dance hall.

Luckenbach's association with country music began in the summer of 1973, when Jerry Jeff Walker, backed by the Lost Gonzo Band, recorded a live album there called Viva Terlingua at Luckenbach Dancehall. That album became an outlaw country classic. Four years later (and a year after Crouch's death), Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson memorialized Luckenbach with the song Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love), cowritten by rock and soul producer Chips Moman and keyboardist Bobby Emmons. In his 2000 book Are You Ready for the Country?, author Peter Doggett recalls that Jennings later told audiences that he hated the song and (had) admitted 'The guys that wrote the thing have never been to Luckenbach. Neither have I.' Notable concert appearances in the town include Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, and Lyle Lovett. The little community is still an active home to country music as of 2010, where folks gather by the score to listen to area musicians and drink cold beer, particularly Shiner Bock, a local favorite brewed by the oldest brewer in Texas.

Country Rock artists Kenny Chesney and Kid Rock later covered the Jennings/Nelson song as a duet as the two performed earlier.

Michael Fall has already released tons of tracks, two albums and a lot of top 50 dance charts tracks, included over 150 worldwide cd compilations from Germany, Australia, Japan to South Africa. Michael Fall made the first demo in his studio for ‘Million Years’ during the year 2018 and sent it off to his good friend & Belgian producer colleague Sammy Merayah. This guy is known from a lot of hits, co-producing’s, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s ‘Ocarina’ and many more huge number 1 tracks. They had the idea this demo track needed to have a very good female vocal. They searched around the globe and they came out with a very classy Rumanian singer songwriter, who did wrote & recorded in her home country. After Michael Fall received the vocal recordings, Michael & Sammy went back to the studio to mix & master the track to its final release! It took maybe a year to make ‘Million years’!

Pack your bag it's time to leave
Goin' on a ride that takes forever

By the time that we get back
It's gonna be a different civilization

We'll be gone a million years
Until the road is all gone and the
Night goes to dawn i know we're

    Gone a million years
And if I don't know when it's just
    Until this moment ends

Michael Fall is a Belgian DJ & producer who first discovered his passion for music when he was just 15 years old. Around that time, he got into the record collection that his parents maintained, testing out some primitive techniques on an old record player. Both of his parents being musicians, he found a lot of encouragement early on, driving him to demand more of himself musically and to push toward innovations constantly.
Most recently, in 2016, Michael collaborated with Mexican DJ Charlie Atom and British singer-songwriter Joe Bateman, signing a contract with Blanco Y Negro!, one of the top Spanish labels in the world. Their debut single, “Winter,” was played heavily on Belgian dance radio station Topradio and C-dance, shooting up to the #41 position on the Belgian Ultratop Dance Chart. Thereafter, “Winter” even saw some played on major radio stations through Belgium. Michael, however, continued to produce other work as well, putting together “Drifting Away,” a club track in a style totally dissimilar to “Winter.” In 2017, Michael put out “Today” feat. Emma Harrop with Blanco Y Negro, and by the end of April, this single had reached the #15 position on the Ultratop Dance Chart. Michael and Charlie also collaborated on “Gone” with Zyx Label in 2017.

In the course of his career, he has played alongside many world-famous DJs, releasing more than thirty singles and a complete album, including “Ring My Bell feat. Lumidee, “Pleasure Seekers,” “Turn On Your Radio,” “La Bonita” feat. Fatman Scoop, “Body on Fire” feat. Celeste, “Baltazar,” “Barra Grande,” and “Vixen,” making it onto several different international dance charts. After its June 2013 release, his album Turn On Your Radio appeared for two weeks on the Belgium Ultratop Album Top 200 chart, earning Michael a Golden Record.

  • Jon Lord Windows part 4

    9:17

    Jon Lord Windows part 4/7
    Playlist:
Windows is a live album by Jon Lord and the German conductor and composer Eberhard Schoener; the music and the record are primarily credited to Lord. It was taped at a concert in Munich, (West) Germany on 1 June 1974 and the music is a mix between progressive rock and orchestral late romantic/modernist styles.

The piece on the first side, Continuo on B-A-C-H is a loose attempt to build on the unfinished triple fugue that closed Johann Sebastian Bach's Art of the Fugue. The second side of the LP is a three-part composition called Window. In the liner notes of the LP album Lord makes a comparison between the rhapsodic structure here and the renga tradition of chain composition of poetry in medieval Japan. The music of the middle section was lifted from Lord's earlier crossover effort Gemini Suite (1971).

Ray Fenwick, Tony Ashton, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes and Lord himself perform as soloists along with the Munich Chamber Opera Orchestra conducted by Schoener. The album was released on LP by Purple Records (distributed by EMI) in late 1974 and reissued on CD (at least in West Germany) in 1987 by Line Records.

    Track listing:

    2nd Movement - Gemini
3rd Movement - Alla Marcia: Allegro

    By Abe Holzmann

Abraham Abe Holzmann (19 August 1874 – 16 January 1939) was an American composer, who is most famous today for his march Blaze-Away. ( I have that and a few others on my Player Piano site.)
Abraham Holzmann was born in New York City. His parents were Jacob Holzmann, a Hungarian (some sources say German) immigrant and Isabella Holzmann, a native of Louisiana. The young Holzmann learned music in Germany. A review originally published by the New York Herald on Sunday, 13 January 1901, entitled German Composer who Writes American Cakewalk Music describes is knowledge of bass and counterpoint is thorough, and his standard compositions bear the stamp of harmonic lore, which makes his proclivity for the writing of the popular style of music the more remarkable.

Abe married Isabelle Fishblatt around 1908, and he became the manager of the Orchestra Department at Jerome Remick & Company, music publisher in New York. He was an early member (1923) of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He earned his livelihood as composer/arranger for Tin Pan Alley publishers, including Leo Feist. He later was advertising manager for the American Federation of Musicians publication, International Musician. He was a member of Freemasonry, the Elks, and Knights of Pythias, all in New York City.

Holzmann died in East Orange, New Jersey at age 64. He was survived by his widow, a daughter Natalie Holzmann, three half-brothers, and four sisters. His music was especially revered by ragtime enthusiasts, although he composed marches, waltzes, and other light music.

His 1899 composition Smokey Mokes was briefly featured in the 1936 movie San Francisco.

Here is a list of his most famous works:

    A-la-carte (1915)
    Alagazam (1902)
Blaze-Away! (1901) possibly a tribute to Rough Rider turned U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt
    Bunch O' Blackberries (1899)
    Calanthe (1900)
    Cowperthwait Centennial March (1907)
    Flying Arrow (1906)
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rules The World (1901)
    Hunky Dory (1900)
    Love-Land (1905)
    Old Faithful (1908)
    The Rialto (1916)
    Smokey Mokes (1899)
    Spirit of Independence (1912)
    Symphia (1902)
    Uncle Sammy (1904)
    The Whip (1908)
    The Winning Fight (1911)
    Yankee Grit (1905)

(Check out my site as I do have more of his marches recorded on my player piano.)
