    Escape
    by Jesse Kongos

    Every few thousand years
    Come true man's greatest fears
    All the living things
    Mother nature brings to tears

When the bombs are bursting in the air
(And) the rockets are making that red glare
    I'm heading down
Down to that good hope town
    Where the weather's fair

So why don't you come away
    With me my love
    We'll do what it takes
    I'll keep you safe

Why don't you stay by me
    (And) when the time comes
    We'll escape

When the big one finally hits LA
    When Yellowstone has it's day
We're heading to the the Southern tip
On a plane or on a ship
We'll do what it takes we'll find a way

And if that cloud forms up above
No sign anywhere of a dove
There'll be no reason left to stay
We'll try and live another day
In a place where there's still love

When I'm lost, I'll never be found
You can bring your guns, and your floods, and your bloodhounds
I said, 'cause once I'm lost I'll never make a sound
They'll say, he never made it out
He's gotta be six feet underground

Well I watch the films and I read the books in my Sunday Best
While you search the ground and the trees of the Northwest
I know, just a tie in flight 305 is what you found
They'll say, he left five behind
And now he's six feet underground

    Woohoooo

    Oh I am running

    Birds Do It

    by Johnny Kongos

Birds do it, bees do it
Gotta a feeling even priests do it
I don't believe we've met before, won't you please do it with me.

Please do it, there’s nothing to it
You don’t even know my name, I knew it
No-one’s ever turned you down before, and it ain’t gonna start with me

Could I buy you drink, could I sing you a song
I could start a war or we could both just get along
I could build a wall, or I could tear it down
And I could tell you why everything's that same old...

Lie, I say I love you
But you don’t need me to
    And I don’t blame you
It’s the same, every time, just another lie

    I say I love you
But you don’t need me to
    Cause I still want you
    Just the same, every night
That we scream and we fight
We don’t care, who is right, just another lie

Birds do it, bees do it
God, a feeling even he do it
I don't believe we've met before, won't you please do it with me

  • KONGOS - Fly

    3:25

    by Jesse Kongos

You’ve got that look in your eye
Like you came out of the ashes
You’ve been up in the sky
    Looking for some matches

So you say you want a pyramid
You’re gonna need some stones for that
    Because in Babylon
Everyone becomes one for stepping on
When you’re trying to get to the headstone

    Fly

Can I tell you a secret
I think you were a friend of mine
You took the rest that you needed
But you came back in the nick of time

Can I tell you a secret
I think you were a friend of mine
You’ve got the eyes of a Phoenix
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side

If you want it to fly
You gotta put some wings on it
If you want it it to burn
You gotta put some fire on it

If you want it to fly
You gotta put some wings on it
You got that look in your eye
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side

    Fly, fly, fly

    Since the beginning of time
    I’ve wondered who I am
You made a loop of a straight line
Now I got no sense of the timespan

    So I said I want a pyramid
I’m gonna need some help with that
    Because in Babylon
    Anyone can talk another
Into seeing light coming off of the headstone

Can I tell you a secret
I think you were a friend of mine
You took the rest that you needed
But you came back in the nick of time
But you came back in the nick of time

If you want it to fly
You gotta put some wings on it
If you want it it to burn
You gotta put some fire on it

If you want it to fly
You gotta put some wings on it
You got that look in your eye
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side

You got that look in your eye
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side
I’ll see you on the other side

    Fly, fly, fly, fly

    I Don’t Mind

    by Dylan Kongos

It’s the start of the night
    Head on my shoulders spinning
    Low light, passing through people
From room to room, womb to tomb
Got to reunite and break some bricks like ’86
And if I lose my mind…

    I don’t mind

So all the corners are getting crowded
    People and music getting louder
The place is out of space
    Spilling into the streets
    Just stomp your feet
And all together close your eyes
    And shout out loud

    I don’t mind

And I know what I know girl
But I don’t know what I know when I know it
And I hear what I hear girl
But I don’t know what I hear when I hear it
And I see what I see girl
But I don’t know what I see when I see it
And I know what I know girl
But I don’t know what I know when I know it

The sun will rise and fall again
Kick my shoes off and count to ten
Get this girl closer till we’re touching skin
Making some space, and if she don’t mind…

So all the corners are getting crowded
    People and music getting louder
The place is out of space
    Spilling into the streets
    Just stomp your feet
And all together close your eyes
    And shout out loud

    Autocorrect

    by Jesse Kongos

    In the future
    Will I need my mind?
    Or will Google
    Take over this grind?

    I’m so tired
    Of using my head
    Just wanna be wired
    Directly into this grid

    I wanna get fucked up
    And then hit undo
    Get my head hooked up
    To download some kung fu

    I wanna be free
    Of all responsibility
    I wanna TV
    Right on my retina please

And if it looks like shit's about to go down
    I don't think twice, it's alright
And if, and if it looks like I’m about to hit the ground
I know that I won't pay the price
I don't care, I don't care if trouble feels like coming around
Cause I got Autocorrect (for life)
    Autocorrect for life

    So in the future
    Will my attention span
    Hey, in the future
Think we'll still do it by hand?

    What is happening
To the length of my thought?
    What is that crackling?
I think my brain's about to short

    If You Could

    by Jesse Kongos

The day to day gets you feeling down
It's been a week since you went to town
It's getting late so why haven't you called your friends
    Why haven't you made amends

It's not the way that you saw your life
The one you love, she's not your wife
You only wanted to make your father proud
And buy your mom a new house

If you could do it again
    How would you do it
    Would you go back
And do what you never got round to

But you know, yeah you know that's not how it works

If you could be someone else
    Would you do it
If you could choose from a shelf
Would you take a new self

But you know, yeah you know that's not how it works

You want to start it all over again, but yeah
You know that's not how it works

You could have been a contender, man
You would have gathered a million fans
You might have taken a rocket to outer space
Had in your pocket the human race

I guess depends on what you expect
But either way you must accept
It's hard to stand by and see it all go so fast
    Not easy watching the Heropass

    2 In The Morning

    by Danny Kongos

Come around 2 in the morning
When she’s just a distant memory
    Almost from a another century
    You miss her anyway

Don’t you know we’ve all been there
    Numbing all our senses
Hoping some substance could prevent this
    But you miss her anyway

    You think…
Be a man and try to understand
But you know that you can’t
    Cause you miss her anyway

    All the sad young men
    Who can’t admit it
When they’ve lost the one thing
    They won’t find again

Come around 2 in the morning
All the sad young men performing
Hoping their youth won’t run out
Knowing that it will any day

Don’t you know we’ve all been there
Thinking we’d found something so rare
Feeling our life hadn’t treated us fair
    When we lost her anyway

    Where I Belong

    by Danny Kongos

    I think I need a new tattoo
I want to influence an age group
    Maybe 15 to 22
They like to do what they want to

I want the right mix of innocence
    And sustainable offense
    My shoes are a personality
    A fractal of my geometry

I wanna run through the Milky Way
    Maybe disobey a cosmic ray
    Weigh everything on judgement day
And see how much there is left to pay

I want my answers to be questioned
I want more than one best friend
I want money that’s already spent
I wanna act as if I don’t pretend, I cannot pretend

    I play along
But I’ve wondered all my life
    Where I belong

The universe is just one song
But I’ve wondered all my life
    Where I belong

    I think I need a new identity
    A hotel with more amenities
Enemies keep me on my toes
That’s why I gotta wear my new clothes

If I could overrule the voices
    In my head making choices
    Maybe then I could escape
A life spent in a dream state

    Look At Me

    by Jesse Kongos

Look at me - I’ll give you something to see
I’ll speak free - you got something I need

I tell my pride - take a seat in the back
    But there’s an ego inside - he’s a maniac

Now I ain’t trying to make a big scene
But you know me, I gotta see and be seen

So look at me - Oh Oh
    Look at me
You got something I need you gotta give it to me
Look at me - Oh Oh
    Look at me
You got something I need you gotta give it to me

    HEY
Now the time has come for a yay or a nay
Like the moon and the sun each gets half the day
Day and night we play this game
I’m a free man at dawn, at dusk your slave
Slave to the need, the push and the pull
I need you gone but I want you to stay
Stay for the night, leave with the light
I need you gone but I want you to stay…

Another day gone by - me dreaming I’m free
But I can’t stop buying what you’re selling to me
I say I don’t care just what you think
But yeah you know me, I say it all with a wink

    So look at me…

    HEY
Now the time has come for a yay or a nay
Like the moon and the sun each gets half the day
Day and night we play this game
With the dark and the light, the push and the pull
I’m free at dawn, at dusk your slave
I need you gone but I want you to stay…

  • Simon Morin - Come with me now

    3:10

Come with Me Now is a song by South African band Kongos. Initially released in 2011 as single from their album Lunatic.

    LYRICS

    Come with me now
    Come with me now
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
    Afraid to lose control
    Caught up in this world
I've wasted time, I've wasted breath
I think I've thought myself to death
I was born without this fear
    Now only this seems clear
I need to move, I need to fight, I need to lose myself tonight
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
I think with my heart and I move with my head
I open my mouth and it's something I've read
I've stood at the store before I'm told
but a part of me knows that I'm growing too old
Confused what I thought was something I felt
Confused what I feel with something that's real
I tried to sell my soul last night
Funny, you wouldn't even take a bite
    Far away
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Don't delay
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Far away
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Don't delay
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
    Far away
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Don't delay
    I heard him say
    (Come with me now)
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' show you how
    Woah, Come with me now
    I'm gon' take you down
    Woah, Come with me now

  • KONGOS - You Are Strange

    3:14

    You Are Strange -

    By Jesse Kongos

I was wondering what you were pondering on
Who, who are you and what planet did you wander here from?
I want you to explain how you came across my name
I want you to confess where you learned to wear that dress

    ‘Cause you are strange
    You make my brain rearrange

    And I
    Yeah I don’t know why
But I see you, you see me too
    Right through, you know me
And I know you that is why
    Yeah I love you

So I watch carefully as all the layers come undone
Who, who are you now and will you change under the sun?
I want you to be true even when your mood is blue
We gotta be our best if we are to pass this test

    And you are pure
I think you just might be the cure

    And I
    Yeah I don’t know why
But I see you, you see me too
    Right through
You know me and I know you
    That is why
    I love you
    Yeah I love you
    Ooh ooh
    Ooh ooh

    By Dylan Kongos:

So long my friend, my foe, my love, my pain
The road's calling out my name
    Dreaming of La Boheme
    Maybe I'll go to Barbizon
Or see a girl before she catches cold and she's gone
Or maybe I'll just travel on

So long my flame, my warmth, my fear, my fight
    The road's calling again tonight
Maybe I'll catch a train to Rome
See the world until I can't go on
Or maybe I'll come traveling home

'Cause when the road takes it's toll
And these cities come and go
Filled with people I don't know
    You'll be in my heart
And I'll dream of where you are tonight

And when the years pass us by
    I wonder if we'll cry
    For losing so much time
    For moments we may miss
For the love that still exists tonight

Maybe I'll go it all alone
See the world and make my way back home
Or maybe I'll keep traveling on

  • Kongos - Take Me Back

    4:47

Kongos is a South African rock band consisting of the Kongos brothers: Johnny, Jesse, Dylan and Daniel. They spent their childhoods in the city of London and in South Africa. They compose, record and perform in Phoenix, Arizona. They are the sons of John Kongos. They are of Greek origin and have attended the Greek Saheti school in Gauteng, South Africa. The film Holy Motors used their song Come with Me Now in the official trailer.

    Members:

Dylan Kongos -- Bass Guitar, vocals.

    Daniel Kongos -- Guitar, vocals.

Jesse Kongos -- Drums and percussion, vocals.

Johnny Kongos -- Accordion, keyboard, vocals.

I talk of six while forgetting five
Can't even taste if my food's alive
    I'm watching music that I can't hear
    Staring down some invisible fear

And once again the question's asked
I answer yes! but the moment's passed
    I'm guess I'm always tomorrow-bound
How many more till I'm underground?

    Oh oh I remember now
Too far below to turn around
Too bright a light to let go now
    Take me back my friend
Take me back back on home

Now what I'm saying is nothing new
    This repetition's right on cue
A wise man said you're amused to death
Too much talk - too much wasted breath

    You're overjoyed and over-fed
    Over-sexed - you're almost dead
    Gotta work gotta stay awake
God I'm tired can I take a break

    The World Would Run Better

    by Danny Kongos

    We talked it over
And I guess I thought I was all right
    A cup of coffee
Makes even a heavy thing seem light

    The world was spinning
With the solutions in the palms of our hands
    And I made a list
Of all the things that I wished to command

    I said…

I think the ocean has too many waves
There’s gotta be a way to make it behave
    The world would run better
If it was run our way

    Argentina is too far south
They should move it closer to my house
    The world would run better
If it was run our way

I said listen we’re almost unique, we’re one in a billion
There are only seven of us who share this feeling
Look how much we’ve already solved over the course of a drink
I think the next step is to change all the seasons to spring

    I Don’t Mind

    by Dylan Kongos

It’s the start of the night
    Head on my shoulders spinning
    Low light, passing through people
From room to room, womb to tomb
Got to reunite and break some bricks like ’86
And if I lose my mind…

    I don’t mind

So all the corners are getting crowded
    People and music getting louder
The place is out of space
    Spilling into the streets
    Just stomp your feet
And all together close your eyes
    And shout out loud

    I don’t mind

And I know what I know girl
But I don’t know what I know when I know it
And I hear what I hear girl
But I don’t know what I hear when I hear it
And I see what I see girl
But I don’t know what I see when I see it
And I know what I know girl
But I don’t know what I know when I know it

The sun will rise and fall again
Kick my shoes off and count to ten
Get this girl closer till we’re touching skin
Making some space, and if she don’t mind…

So all the corners are getting crowded
    People and music getting louder
The place is out of space
    Spilling into the streets
    Just stomp your feet
And all together close your eyes
    And shout out loud

    Look At Me

    by Jesse Kongos

    Track 12 on 'Lunatic'

    Written by Johnny Kongos

    Oh, I will try
But I tell you it ain't easy using only words
    And so I'll begin
But I'll start at the end, the day I said so long my friend

    I still remember well
His smile that would not die
And the tears begin to swell
    Tears I dare not fight

    Cause now I'm alive
    I'm taking my first breath
    Oh I'm alive
And this time I won't forget

    Now as I look back
Wish I'd known that someday soon he'd long be gone
    So, I will try
To remember the end, the day I said so long my friend

    They go by many names
    Mother, father, brother, son
And the tears begin to swell
    Tears I dare not fight

    Cause now I'm alive
    I'm taking my first breath
    Oh I'm alive
And this time I won't forget

    Oh I'm alive
And this time I won't forget

    Where I Belong

    by Danny Kongos

    I think I need a new tattoo
I want to influence an age group
    Maybe 15 to 22
They like to do what they want to

I want the right mix of innocence
    And sustainable offense
    My shoes are a personality
    A fractal of my geometry

I wanna run through the Milky Way
    Maybe disobey a cosmic ray
    Weigh everything on judgement day
And see how much there is left to pay

I want my answers to be questioned
I want more than one best friend
I want money that’s already spent
I wanna act as if I don’t pretend, I cannot pretend

    I play along
But I’ve wondered all my life
    Where I belong

The universe is just one song
But I’ve wondered all my life
    Where I belong

    I think I need a new identity
    A hotel with more amenities
Enemies keep me on my toes
That’s why I gotta wear my new clothes

If I could overrule the voices
    In my head making choices
    Maybe then I could escape
A life spent in a dream state

    If You Could

    by Jesse Kongos

The day to day gets you feeling down
It's been a week since you went to town
It's getting late so why haven't you called your friends
    Why haven't you made amends

It's not the way that you saw your life
The one you love, she's not your wife
You only wanted to make your father proud
And buy your mom a new house

If you could do it again
    How would you do it
    Would you go back
And do what you never got round to

But you know, yeah you know that's not how it works

If you could be someone else
    Would you do it
If you could choose from a shelf
Would you take a new self

But you know, yeah you know that's not how it works

You want to start it all over again, but yeah
You know that's not how it works

You could have been a contender, man
You would have gathered a million fans
You might have taken a rocket to outer space
Had in your pocket the human race

I guess depends on what you expect
But either way you must accept
It's hard to stand by and see it all go so fast
    Not easy watching the Heropass

  • Kongos - Kids These Days | Live @ JBTV

    5:20

South African alternative rockers Dylan, Daniel, Jesse, and Johnny all happen to be brothers, and you guessed it- their last name is Kongos. Their band has have been topping charts in South Africa since the original release of their debut album Lunatic (Epic Records) in 2012.

This has been a great year for the Kongos as they are gaining popularity in the United States. Now the band has re-released the album for American ears which has been propelled into the U.S. alternative charts by singles such as this one called I'm Only Joking. Kongos performed this song live as guests at JBTV Studios in Chicago in front of a packed house. Kongos have channeled an interesting dimension into their music by rocking the accordion, which brings a lot of unique energy to their shows and sets them apart from other bands.

    Lyrics:

    Oh kids these days
    They don't have respect
They just talk on those cellphones
And listen to their tape cassettes

    It's what that teacher said
    With disgust in every breath
    His students listened carelessly
    They were easily unimpressed

He said it with such conviction
    Whether truth or fiction
    And it went
    Round and round

    They'd reinvent the wheel
    Watch it spin and marvel
    At the breakthrough
    They had found

Another war to end all wars
    Depressions are no more
    Gravity works on occasion
It won't always bring you to the floor

    It's a Spanish questionnaire
    Conquest through love affair
    A trillion here or there
I'm sure it'll work with a little prayer

He said it with such conviction
    Whether truth or fiction
    And it went
    Round and round

    They'd reinvent the wheel
    Watch it spin and marvel
    At the breakthrough
    They had found

    Autocorrect

    by Jesse Kongos

    In the future
    Will I need my mind?
    Or will Google
    Take over this grind?

    I’m so tired
    Of using my head
    Just wanna be wired
    Directly into this grid

    I wanna get fucked up
    And then hit undo
    Get my head hooked up
    To download some kung fu

    I wanna be free
    Of all responsibility
    I wanna TV
    Right on my retina please

And if it looks like shit's about to go down
    I don't think twice, it's alright
And if, and if it looks like I’m about to hit the ground
I know that I won't pay the price
I don't care, I don't care if trouble feels like coming around
Cause I got Autocorrect (for life)
    Autocorrect for life

    So in the future
    Will my attention span
    Hey, in the future
Think we'll still do it by hand?

    What is happening
To the length of my thought?
    What is that crackling?
I think my brain's about to short

    I Want It Free

    by Johnny & Jesse Kongos

    Hands up, get on up
We are all one of a kind
But time’s up, so don’t get up
You’re too late to be the first in line
Put your hands up, if you round up
Out of ten we're at least a nine
But time’s up, and I fucked up
Twelve of me for less than a dime

Hey now, get up and get it, before it’s too
Late now, get up and get it, you don’t have to
Wait now, you can have it all if you just
Say, I want it now, I want it free

    Hands up, get on up
Don’t you wanna know what’s on my mind?
But time’s up, so don’t get up
I was sure I was one of a kind
Put your hands up, I give up
I was looking for a place to hide
But time’s up, and I fucked up
Now I’m staring at the great divide

I had a dream the other night
Where I could see my name in lights
But every time I get close it starts to fade away

    From Tokyo to Bogota
    All the girls say aha
And I'd be lying if I told you I could walk away

I had a dream the other night
Where I could see my name in lights
But every time I get close it starts to fade away

    From Shanghai to Omaha
    All the girls say aha
And you'd be lying if you told me you could walk away

    For your brother's sake

    You talk about the deluge
    You talk about centrifuge
    You got something to prove
Tell me - who's eyes you gonna use

    And I, yeah I
    What's it gonna take
    And you... yeah you
    What's it gonna be

    I wanna know

    What's it gonna be
    Gotta another theory
    You want me to hear
Taking your refuge in your reason
    Just to beat the fear
That we don't know why we're here

    Even cold hard facts
Have got a way of changing
Their stripes in the light of a new day
The world we hold so tight and true
    Turn it on it's head

    And I

    I wanna know

    Living under pretense
    Always on the defense
    Always on the fence
Tell me, what's it gonna be

  • Johnny Kongos - Jamaican farewell

    2:19

John Theodore Kongos is a South African artist born in Johannesburg on 06 August 1945. He had great success in South Africa, both as a solo artist and with his group Johnny & The G-Men, before going to the UK to pursue his musical career. He formed two UK based groups, Floribunda Rose (with Pete Clifford - guitar and Jack Russell - bass, vocals) and Scrugg, and spent 18 months gigging in Britain and Europe, before he released his first solo album, “Confusions About a Goldfish” in 1970. He then concentrated on song writing and began to have major success in Germany and other European countries. In 1971 he had two hit singles – He's Gonna Step On You Again (UK No. 4, May 1971; U.S. Billboard Hot 100 No. 70) and Tokoloshe Man (UK No. 4, November 1971), before releasing his second solo album, “Kongos”, in 1972. It reached the Top 30 on the UK Albums Chart.

He continued to work in his own London studio as a record producer, sound engineer, TV jingle, theme music composer and songwriter, as well as handling the programming of the Fairlight CMI synthesizer on Def Leppard's 1983 album, “Pyromania”.

He is married to Shelley and has four sons, Johnny, Jesse, Dylan, and Daniel, who work as a rock band under the title “Kongos”.

This song is off the album “This Is Johnny” released in 1963. It was written by Lord Burgess (Irving Burgie) and first released by Harry Belafonte's on his album Calypso in 1957.
