    NUNCA TE ENAMORES DE UN SOÑADOR-KENNY ROGERS- & KIM CARNES
    EXTRAORDINARIO.
    letra:
    Just look at you sitting there
    You never looked better than tonight
    And it'd be so easy to tell you I'd stay
    Like I've done so many times
    I was so sure this would be the night
    You'd close the door
    And wanna stay with me
    And it'd be so easy
    To tell you I'd stay
    Like I've done so many times

    Don't fall in love with a dreamer
    Because he'll always take you in
    Just when you think
    You've really changed him
    He'll leave you again
    Don't fall in love with a dreamer
    Because he'll break you every time

    So put out the light and just hold on
    Before we say goodbye
    Now it's morning
    And the
    phone
    rings and ya say
    You gotta get your things together
    You just gotta leave
    Before you change your mind
    And if you knew
    What I was thinking girl, I'd turn around
    If you'd just ask me one more time
    Don't fall in love with a dreamer
    Because he'll always take you in
    Just when you think
    You've really changed him
    He'll leave you again
    Don't fall in love with a dreamer
    Because he'll break you every time
    So put out the light and just hold on

  • Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes

    3:24

    Kim Carnes' distinctively raspy, throaty voice graced one of the biggest hits of the '80s, the Grammy-winning smash Bette Davis Eyes, which spent nine weeks on top of the Billboard charts in 1981. Carnes was born in Los Angeles on July 20, 1945, and during the '60s began writing songs for other artists while performing in local clubs and as a session vocalist. In 1966, she joined the popular folk group the New Christy Minstrels for a time, later leaving (along with husband/songwriting partner Dave Ellingson) to form the duo Kim & Dave. Thanks in part to her folk-music background, Carnes landed an acting role in the 1967 film C'Mon, Let's Live a Little, a folk-themed musical with a staunchly anti-radical viewpoint.
    In 1971, Carnes' Sing Out for Jesus was recorded by blues legend Big Mama Thornton for the soundtrack of the film Vanishing Point, which also featured Kim & Dave's performance of the song Nobody Knows. This success landed Carnes a solo deal with Amos, the label on which the soundtrack had appeared. She recorded her first album, Rest On Me, in 1972, but it did nothing, and, frustrated by the predominance of outside writers on the record, Carnes departed, eventually signing with A&M. Her self-titled label debut was issued in 1975 and produced her first chart hit, the self-penned duet with Gene Cotton You're a Part of Me. 1976's Sailin' and 1979's St. Vincent's Court (her first album for EMI) also produced minor singles, but her big break came in 1980, when former-New Christy Minstrel bandmate Kenny Rogers invited her to duet with him on Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer. The song was a hit, and the accompanying concept album Gideon featured nothing but Carnes and Ellingson compositions. Thanks to the exposure, Carnes scored her first solo Top Ten hit later that year with a cover of the Miracles' More Love, from her album Romance Dance.
    Carnes seemed poised for success, and took extra pains with her next album, Mistaken Identity. One of the songs selected was Bette Davis Eyes, a tune co-written in 1974 by Donna Weiss and former folk-rocker Jackie DeShannon (who had appeared with Carnes in C'Mon, Let's Live a Little). Convinced to record the song with an atmospheric new arrangement, Carnes took Bette Davis Eyes to the top of the charts for nine weeks; it became the biggest hit of the year, and later won Grammys for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Despite this major breakthrough, Carnes found it difficult to follow her hit; the subsequent singles from Mistaken Identity failed to make even the Top 20. She scored minor hits with songs from 1982's Voyeur and 1983's Cafe Racers, and in 1985 she became the first artist to be on the charts simultaneously with solo (Invitation to Dance), duo (Make No Mistake, He's Mine, recorded with Barbra Streisand), and trio (What About Me, with Kenny Rogers and James Ingram) performances. That same year, she scored her last Top 20 hit with Crazy in the Night, from Barking at Airplanes. 1986's Light House flopped, and for 1988's View from the House, she returned to the folk and country music of her earlier years. With the indifferent response to her continued singing career, Carnes began to concentrate more on her songwriting, still collaborating frequently with Ellingson. She began to place more and more material with major-label country artists, and moved to Nashville in 1994 to be where the action was. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

    Bette Davis Eyes is a song written and composed by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, and made popular by American singer Kim Carnes.

    DeShannon recorded it in 1974; Carnes's 1981 version spent nine weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was Billboard's biggest hit of 1981.

    The Carnes version spent nine non-consecutive weeks on top of the US Billboard Hot 100 (interrupted for one week by the Stars on 45 Medley) and was Billboard's biggest hit of the year for 1981. The single also reached #5 on Billboard's Top Tracks charts and #26 on the Dance charts. The song won the Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The song was also a #1 hit in 21 countries and peaked at #10 in the United Kingdom, her only Top 40 hit there to date. It also reached number two in Canada for twelve consecutive weeks, and was the #2 hit of 1981 in the country.

    Actress Bette Davis, then 73 years old, wrote letters to Carnes, Weiss, and DeShannon to thank all three of them for making her a part of modern times, and said her grandson now looked up to her. After their Grammy wins, Davis sent them roses as well.

  • Kim Carnes ~ Bette Davis Eyes 1981 Disco Purrfection Version

    6:22

    Kim Carnes was on the upswing in the early 80's beginning with her cover of Smokey Robinson's More Love with a distinctive synthesizer sound that defined the production, her warm and raspy voice providing an effective counterpoint to the smooth and lush electronic sounds that enveloped the songs. Donna Weiss and 60's recording star Jackie DeShannon, (Put A Little Love in Your Heart), wrote a honky tonk song tribute to Bette Davis which Jackie recorded for her New Arrangement LP of 1975. They sent it to Carnes producer at the time, George Tobin (who would go on to produce Tiffany). Kim was not interested in the song at the time and after she changed producers to Val Garay, Weiss sent her the song again. Bill Cuomo, the synthesizer player, came up with the new chords that cemented the commercial appeal of the song which was quickly completed and put on her Mistaken Identity LP. The appeal was astounding! It spent 9 weeks at #1, and dropped to #2 for one week while the Stars on 45 single took over, but returned to #1 the following week for another four weeks. The song was the #1 hit of all of 1981, won a double Grammy (Song and Record of the Year) and was #1 in 21 other countries. Talk about striking a chord with the masses!

    A Fantastic Collaboration of 3 top singers/songwriters of all time... pls. enjoy!!!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    What About Me? is the title of a popular song first recorded in 1984 as a trio by singers Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes and James Ingram. The song was written by Rogers, noted producer David Foster and singer-songwriter Richard Marx, who had yet to achieve the fame as a musician that he would a few years later (Right Here Waiting, Now and Forever). It was the lead single from Rogers' 1984 album of the same name.
    Rogers has described What About Me? as like a three-way love song...Everybody involved said 'Hey, what about me?' I think it's a beautiful record. Originally the male and female parts not sung by Rogers were to be performed by Lionel Richie and Barbra Streisand, but after Richie backed out of the project, Streisand did as well. The second proposed trio of singers was Rogers, Olivia Newton-John and Jeffrey Osborne, but Newton-John began working on a duet with Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees and decided not to do both projects simultaneously. Osborne had a conflicting schedule as well, so the line-up of Rogers, Carnes and Ingram was ultimately the one that recorded the song.[1]
    What About Me? charted on four Billboard singles charts in the United States at the time of its release in late 1984. It was most successful on the adult contemporary chart, where it spent two weeks at number one in November of that year. This was the first adult contemporary chart topper for either Carnes or Ingram, who also had a #1 adult contemporary song with Patti Austin Baby, Come To Me in 1983, though both had achieved pop hits before this song. For Rogers, this was his eighth (and to date, final) number one on the AC chart. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at number 15, while it accomplished the rare feat of charting on both the R&B (#57) and country (#70) charts. This was Rogers' second single to reach the R&B chart, following his 1980 hit Lady. That song, written by Richie, had reached number 42 on the R&B chart as well as going to number one on the pop, country and AC charts.
    Gene Cotton (born June 30, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio) is a pop and folk singer-songwriter. He is best known for his four Billboard Top 40 entries during the years 1976--1978.Cotton has been a resident of Leiper's Fork, Tennessee since the late 1970s. In recent years, Cotton has scaled back his career as a singer and songwriter and spent much of his savings on a legal battle against the construction of a state highway (State Route 840) which would surround Nashville. Cotton, the father of two adopted children and one biological child, has devoted himself to helping the underprivileged of his area by motivating them in their studies and activities through a program called Kids On Stage (KOS). KOS brings in Nashville artists to run summer classes that open the doors to the arts to kids who might otherwise never see greatness or think about greatness in their arts. Most notably, Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald has performed numerous times to bring awareness and raise donations for this program under Cotton's leadership, besides producing independent films about the plight of the poor around the world.
    Cotton was instrumental in 1980s pop singer Michael Johnson's career.
    In 2001, Cotton lost a race for a seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives to Republican Glen Casada. Casada won 3,185 votes to Cotton's 1,554 in a special election in which only 13 percent of registered voters cast ballots. Both Casada and Cotton campaigned on strong opposition to proposals for a state income tax.
    Kim Carnes (born 20 July 1945 Hollywood, California) is an US singer-songwriter.[1] She is a two-time Grammy Award winner noted for her distinctive raspy vocal style.
    In 1981, Carnes recorded the Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss song Bette Davis Eyes. As the first single released from the album Mistaken Identity, it spent nine weeks at number one on the US singles charts and became a worldwide hit. The song's success propelled the album to No. 1 for four weeks. The single became the biggest hit of the entire year of 1981, and is second only to Olivia Newton-John's Physical as the biggest hit of the 1980s in the USA, according to Billboard. The song earned both the Record of the Year and Song of the Year awards at the 1982 Grammys. Carnes was nominated for Best Pop Female and Mistaken Identity also earned a nomination for Album of the Year. Two follow-up singles from Mistaken Identity, Draw of the Cards and the title track, were both released during 1981.
    Bette Davis Eyes was written by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss in 1974. Carnes and her band rehearsed the song in the studio for three days to take the melody and overall sound of the record to a darker, more haunting place. Keyboard player Bill Cuomo came up with the signature instrumental lick and together with the band and producer Val Garay created a completely new arrangement of the song, which was recorded live the next day with no overdubs.
    Bette Davis admitted to being a fan of the song and approached Carnes and the songwriters to thank them. Davis wrote to Carnes after the song was released saying she loved the song. It was a thrill to become a part of the rock generation, she said in her memoir 'This 'N That.' Davis' grandson, Ashley, told the screen legend she had finally made it. Carnes and Davis struck up a special friendship, with the singer visiting her at her home several times until her 1989 death. In what she considers a career highlight, Carnes performed the song live for Davis at a tribute to the legendary actress held just before her death. Most recently, the song has been used in a Clairol Nice 'n Easy advertisement in the UK. The ad featuring the song has expanded into South Africa and other territories around the world. In 2008, the song was featured in the opening scene of the documentary film, Valentino: The Last Emperor.
    Went straight for the heart with all we could feel
    You gave me the best part
    And I gave you my heart
    Will I be just another lover
    In you memory
    Long after tonight
    And for as far as I can see
    I'll remember you
    Will you remember me
    Don't turn out the light
    There's a bottle of wine
    We haven't finished yet
    Guess it's all in the way
    3:17
    Esta canción fue lanzada en 1981 y logró estar 9 semanas en la lista de éxitos siendo uno de los mayores éxitos de dicho año. Además de eso, ganó 2 premios Grammy (incluido el de canción del año). El tema hace referencia a la famosa actriz Bette Davis que era conocida por soler interpretar en sus papeles a mujeres fuertes e independientes, de hecho Davis escribió una carta a Carnes agradeciéndola el haberla convertido en una parte de la historia moderna, y le comentó que era una gran fan de la canción. Una de las razones por las que le gustó tanto, fue que su nieta le dijo que pensaba que era guay por tener un éxito dedicado a ella.
    La canción en general nos describe a una femme fatale que consigue engatusar a quién desea. La letra, según algunos, incluye también muchas referencias eróticas.
