Keith Whitley-Tell Lorrie I Love Her

    3:04

Check out my tribute to Don't Close Your Eyes

    Lyrics:
If I were alone in the desert
Without a drink of water around
With my knees and hands in that white scorching sand
With the hot Sahara, sun beating down
If I could be granted my wishes
Anything I want would come true
I know that it might sound funny
But here's what I want you to do

    (Chorus)
    Tell Lorie I love her
    Tell Lorie I need her
Tell her everything would be ok if I could just see her
    Tell Lorie I love her
    Tell Lorie I need her
And If I leave this old world tell her she's the only girl for me

If I were a drift on the ocean
A vessel with no sails or steam
Floating aimlessly on the endless sea
    Hopelessly lost it would seem
If all of the fish in the water
Could echo my last dying plea
I know you might not understand it
But here's what I want it to be

    Tell Lorie I love her
    Tell Lorie I need her
Tell her everything would be ok if I could just see her
    Tell Lorie I love her
    Tell Lorie I need her
And if I leave this old world tell her she's the only girl for me
And if I leave this old world tell her she's the only girl for me

Lorrie Morgan & Keith Whitley ~ I Just Want You

    3:31

    Album : A Tribute Album
    Utgitt : 1994
Låtskriver : Max D. Barnes / Troy Seals

    Lyrics
    (HIM)
    Honey I'm home
Oh it seems like I've been gone forever.
    It feels so good
In the arms that holds my world together.
    I'm tired and hungry,
But I don't want to eat.
    My body is aching,
But I don't want to sleep.

    (BOTH)
    I just want you.
    I just want you.

I'm no good with pretty words
    That take your breath away.
But its straight from my heart that I say.
    I just want you.
    Ooo, I just want you.

    (HER)
    Here in this room
We've always found the feelings we were after.
    Darling one more time.
Finding them again is all that matters

    (BOTH)
Lying beside you makes everything right
Holing the one I love the rest of my life.

    I just want you.
    I just want you.
    (HER)
    I don't need pretty words
    To take my breath away.
Cause its straight from you heart
    When you say.

    (BOTH)
    I just want you.
    Ooo,I just want you.
    I just want you.
    I just want you.
    I just want you.
    I just want you.

The Day Keith Whitley Died by Timothy Baker

    4:19

Around a year ago I was thinking about the influence that Keith Whitley has had not only on young country singers like myself, but on just about anyone who has sang country music since his passing. With that in mind I wrote this song to honor Keith and the legacy that he left behind, and with today marking 30 years since he passed away I thought it was only appropriate that I share it with the world. If you're a fan of Keith's music, please share this with your friends and family!

*My buddy Korey Rose was kind enough to include this song on his upcoming solo album, and pre-sale for digital and physical formats begins tomorrow, May 10! This song and the rest of the album will be available in June, so be on the lookout for it!*

    Lyrics:
The ground shook in Miami, Music Row went dark
All the radios grew quiet to respect a fallen star
All of Sandy Hook was mourning and country music cried
That Kentucky Bluebird flew away the day Keith Whitley died

That friend of thunder left us wondering why he had to go before his time
But I bet Homecoming '63 was nothing like homecoming '89
He had so much left to say when he closed his eyes
That Kentucky Bluebird flew away the day Keith Whitley died

No there'll never be another that could ever take his place
And those old memories alone ain't enough to fill the empty space
The world will never be the same but his songs are still alive
That Kentucky Bluebird flew away the day Keith Whitley died

    CH

We've been called to carry on his legacy, and The Good Lord knows we'll try
But He took the best there ever was the day Keith Whitley died

If you use profanity in your comments, your comment will be removed. Don't show your stupidity by using it.

In light of a recent comment left by a viewer on May 3, 2009, viewers should be aware that there is a lot of erroneous information about Keith's bio, most notably the bio on CMT.com, which is chock full of glaring errors. Keith's given name at birth was JACKIE Keith Whitley, not Jesse Keith Whitley. Jesse Keith Whitley is the biological son of Jackie Keith Whitley and Loretta Lynn Lorrie Morgan, born in 1987. Jackie Keith Whitley was born in Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY on July 1, 1954, the son of the late Elmer Jackson Whitley and Nannie Faye Ferguson Whitley. Back when Keith was lead singer for J. D. Crowe and the New South in the late 1970's and early 1980's, he found he had lost his birth certificate, and he needed one for his passport. So when he received his new one from Frankfort, it came back with the wrong birth date, July 1, 1955. All this information was given to me by his mother during a phone conversation I had with her in 1991. I'm sure Lorrie knew his real birthdate, but why she insisted on putting the wrong one on his tombstone no one seems to know. If you need more proof, I have a digital copy of his original birth announcement provided to me by the Whitley family with his birth date, place of birth, and birth weight. If you need a copy of this, send me a message.

This Paul Overstreet/Don Schlitz-penned gem was Keith's 2nd straight #1 song and the second single from his 1988 album Don't Close Your Eyes. Keith's original stayed at #1 in the US for 2 weeks at the end of 1988. Allison Krauss covered the song in 1995. While Krauss' version was on the charts, Mike Cromwell, then the production director at WMIL-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, concocted a duet merging elements of Krauss' version with Whitley's original hit version. The duet garnered national attention, and it spread from at least Philadelphia to Albuquerque. It was never officially serviced to radio and has never been available commercially. Krauss' recording won the 1995 CMA award for Single of the Year. Then in 2004 Keith's version was #12 on the list of CMT's 100 Greatest Love Songs of All Time.

    NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED!!!

    Lyrics:

    I know you loved him
    A long time ago
    Even now in my arms
You still want him I know
    But darling this time
    Let your memories die
    When you hold me tonight
    Don't close your eyes

    Don't close your eyes
    Let it be me
    Don't pretend it's him
    In some fantasy
    Darling just once
    Let yesterday go
    You'll find more love
    Than you've ever known
    Just hold me tight
    When you love me tonight
    And don't close your eyes

    Maybe I've been a fool
    Holding on all this time
    Lyin' here in your arms
    Knowing he's in your mind
But I keep hoping some day
    That you'll see the light
    Let it be me tonight
    Don't close your eyes

    Don't close your eyes
    Let it be me
    Don't pretend it's him
    In some fantasy
    Darling just once
    Let yesterday go
    You'll find more love
    Than you've ever known
    Just hold me tight
    When you love me tonight
    And don't close your eyes

Keith Whitley ~ Dont Close Your Eyes & Lorrie Morgan Remembers

    8:16

Keith Whitley (July 1, 1955 ~ May 9, 1989) was born in Ashland, Kentucky and grew up in nearby Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Whitley began his career there in 1970, performing in Ralph Stanley's band. Establishing himself as a lead singer in bluegrass music, Whitley moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1983 and began his recording career there. His first Top 20 Country Hit single, Miami, My Amy, was released in 1986. While touring for his album L.A. to Miami, he married country singer Lorrie Morgan. In 1988, his first three singles from his studio album Don't Close Your Eyes, the title song, When You Say Nothing at All and I'm No Stranger to the Rain were number-one hits. He died in 1989 at the age of 33. His later two singles, I Wonder Do You Think of Me and It Ain't Nothin', were released after his death.

Keith Whitley-I Never Forget a Face

    4:44

    Rare Keith Whitley demo

    LYRICS **by request**
    I forget anniversaries
    Yes, I'm bad about dates
    The flowers I sent her
    They were always too late

I don't know when we fell out of love
And I can't recall the place
But one thing scares me half to death
Ooh, I never forget a face

    She always seemed happy
    So collected and cool
    If her eyes were lonely
    She sure had me fooled

I don't know where the memories went
    They've all been erased
But one thing keeps on haunting me
Ooh, I never forget a face

Those eyes, Lord, they were good
Made you feel good when they were looking at you
Those lips, how they could smile
And break a man's heart when they're saying goodbye

    I forget anniversaries
    Yes, I'm bad about dates
    The flowers I sent her
    They were always too late

I don't know when we fell out of love
And I can't recall the place
But one thing scares me half to death
Ooh, I never forget a face
    I never forget a face
    I never forget a face
