John Juke Logan Blues, Drive By Love Austin Tx

    7:14

Austin Texas Blues Musicians John Juke Logan with Gary Primich and his band performing the song Drive By Love. I filmed this at one of South Austin's First Thursday celebrations. in June 2005. John Juke Logan on vocals and blues harp. The Guitarist in the video is the late Gary Primich who passed away a couple years after this video in September 2007 at the age of 49.

Mr Primich was an accomplished Singer, Blues Guitarist, Harmonicist and Songwriter. Gary lived in Austin Texas.

First Thursday is a seasonal Austin event every 1st Thursday of every weather permitting month. It is basically one big party. Musicians, comedians and performers line the streets in a circus like fun atmosphere. Anyone can basically come out and play. I have seen a lot of good street musicans out and about on several occasions.

John Juke Logan The Truth Will Rock You

    4:48

I think, all at once, this is the most REVERENT, & the most IRREVERENT, record I've made. I think the only RULES should be that there are NO RULES. I think it's always important to add some fresh feels & stories to the blues-mix, & I think we've done so. One should RESPECT the traditions, of course, but that doesn't mean one can't MESS with 'em... John 'Juke' Logan

Ry Cooder, Joe Seneca, John Juke Logan - Willie Brown Blues

    3:59

From the 1986 movie soundtrack, Crossroads. I claim no rights to any of the images or music in this video. All rights remain with their respective owners.
    Lyrics:

    [Instrumental intro]

    Hey, call me Willie
    Hey, call me Willie
    Blind Dog Fulton
    Smokehouse Brown
    Call me Willie
The one and only Willie Brown

I'm built for comfort, not built for speed
I got everything you good girls need
See me comin', throw your man outdoors
I may not get this way no more
Call me Willie, the one and only Willie Brown, yeah

    [Instrumental bridge]

Hey pretty mama, you sure look fine
Call me dog but I ain't blind
Smokehouse man is back in town
Call me up when your love comes down
Call me Willie, the one and only Willie Brown, yeah

I'm lovin' all you women two by two
Ain't gonna stop ‘till the lovin' is through
It gets too hot, windmill turns
Baby play the fiddle when the Smokehouse burns
Call me Willie, the one and only Willie Brown, yeah

    Call me Willie
    Call me Willie
    Blind Dog Fulton
    Smokehouse Brown
    Call me Willie
The one and only Willie Brown, yeah

    [Instrumental outro]

Songwriters: Joe Seneca (lyrics), Ry Cooder (music)
    Music Producer: Tom Whalley
    Video Producer: Eleanor Plant

    Exactly WHO is Willie Brown?
The folklore of Mississippi Delta blues has more mysteries than you can count, but few are as intriguing as the mystery of Willie Brown. Who was he? Why is there so little of his music to be found today? Why is he called-out by name in Robert Johnson’s song, “Crossroad Blues”?

Brown was a protégé of Charley Patton and side-man to Robert Johnson and Son House. His known recordings amount to just eight songs. There is documentation that he recorded six songs in a 1930 session in Grafton, Wisconsin, and that three 78 rpm discs were published. But only three copies of one of those discs have been found:

Paramount 13090: M&O Blues / Future Blues (only three copies have been found)
Paramount 13001: Grandma Blues / Sorry Blues (no copies have been found)
Paramount 13099: Window Blues / Kicking in My Sleep Blues (no copies have been found)

In addition, Alan Lomax recorded Brown in the 1941 Library of Congress version of “Make Me a Pallet on the Floor”, and in the 1942 Arkansas recording of “Ragged and Dirty”.

There is documentation that there were more, but they were destroyed. H.C. Speir of Jackson, MS recorded Brown in 1933, but those recordings were never published and the demos were destroyed by fire at Speir's store and offices in 1942.

Willie Brown is considered by blues experts as an exceptional talent, and that adds to the intrigue. John Tefteller is a respected authority on music recordings who once paid over $37,000 for a blues record. On the subject of Willie Brown, he’s said, “Find me missing Willie Brown [recordings] and you will see me writing REALLY big checks.” Everyone loves a mystery, and the treasure hunt angle only increases the interest.
