➡️ What are your thoughts on trading services? 6:19
➡️What does it take to work for a professional recording, mixing, or mastering engineer like you and all of the great ones in your videos and alike? What skills does one need to have up front? 10:39

This is a great question! Mix height and depth are topics that come up very often as having parts of your mix that seem to float above the stereo field's horizontal plane is crucial in creating a great mix.

Behind me, I have a main driver here as well as a tweeter, giving me clear high end and low end. When you are listening to a mix, you perceive the high end to come out higher in position. So, if I want to create width in a mix, I am going to pan left and right, and use depth, reverbs, and delays to make the signal feel like it is being pushed back. However, if I want to create height, I am going to go for higher frequency and I am not going to cross it over into some of the lower sections.

Depth is perceived by things coming at you really fast, and height can be achieved by working in high frequencies only, and not using a ton of low end.  You need to do a lot of experimenting inside of your mix to know how to create all of that space. If you've watched a lot of our videos, you'll see that when I do reverbs and delays, I don't just always take a signal and send it to a reverb, then process the reverb with gentle compression and EQ and all that kind of stuff.

When applying these things, I might put a delay going into the reverb, which a lot of people do, but I will also detune the delay. This creates not only depth, but a separation so you can actually keep that sound forward and create an illusion of space around it. The best way to create space is to get really creative in how you use reverbs and delays! You can do delays that are perfectly in time and make the parts of your mix seem bigger and maybe create some more rhythm, but random delays will create tons of space in your mix. These delays don't have to be loud, just random and detuned! Reverbs and delays that are out of tune and working together will make things come forward, back, sideways, and every other direction. You'll get a completely different spatial landscape and they'll make your mix a lot more interesting to listen to!

  • How can you make your mix STAND OUT? | FAQ Friday

    17:47

➡️➡️Click here to learn more about how you can make your mix stand out:

We’re back with another fabulous FAQ Friday! Today’s featured question is: Besides width, what can I do to make my mix stand out in a mixing contest?

I have participated in and judged quite a few mixing competitions in my time, and one story related to this that comes to mind is the mixing competition that was held when I was doing The Fray’s second album.

In this mixing competition, we had one mixers use a trick that really does make a mix stand out. He mixed the song by almost almost completely limiting each section. What he did was hit his master bus pretty hard so it was slamming and super loud, but he turned it down about a dB and a half in the verse, and then brought it back up to zero in the chorus. This manipulated the dynamics so that you had a super loud pumping verse, and then it came right up when you hit the chorus!

Though this trick can help to make your mix stand out in a competition, it is not guaranteed, and is not the only way you will be able stand out. It all depends on what the criteria of the competition are!

In the case of The Fray’s album, we actually had the assistant volume match all the mixes so that none of them were perceptibly louder than the others, meaning they all came out at the same level. In the end, we did not choose the one that use that volume trick, but chose one that seemed to have the most width and depth and felt more in keeping with the song.

If the competition is about taking their rough and not doing anything crazy to it or adding anything to it, then you should simply take their rough mix and make more of it. Listen to it over and over, and take notes. Think about what areas you would improve and how you can build on that rough.

If they give you the opportunity to do remixes, this is where you can have some fun with it and get really creative, adding additional instrumentation and other things to really make your mix jump out! Play around the mix and make it jump out of the speakers!

In the end, it really is a combination of making sure that the mix is just loud enough to jump out of the speakers, making sure you’ve got enough dynamics to really make those choruses pop, and giving yourself a lot of opportunity for the song to feel wide and have some depth.

Throughout the mixing process, go back to the rough to see where you can build on it and how you can make it better. Think about how the song should sound and what areas of the rough you want to improve, and your mix is sure to stand out in the end!

Tips for creating depth in a mix.

    Transcript excerpt:

In this tutorial, we are going to be talking about depth. How to create a sense of front to back image inside your stereo mix.

Now, a stereo mix is essentially a two-dimensional plane, not unlike a painting canvas, and much like any painting, we can create the illusion of three dimensions.

Obviously, in a painting, we do it using things like shading, perspective, size. Well, in music, we do similar things. We use signal processing, like level, EQ, and reverb.

I think it's fairly obvious how we use level. Things that are louder generally appear closer, things that are quieter generally appear further. That's pretty self explanatory.

EQ's a little bit more complicated. There's something called the dispersion effect, where over distance, high frequencies damp out faster than lower frequencies, except for in very interesting and weird acoustic environments, but for the most part, we're going to lose more high end over distance, and so if we have things that are generally EQ'd to be darker, they will also appear further away, and things that are very bright are going to appear close.

The last one is going to be reverb. Reverb is sort of complicated, but reverb is the illustration of sound inside of a space, and where you locate that space comes down to a number of different settings, and they are: the level of early reflections, the level of late reflections, and the pre-delay.

And everything sort of plays into it, like the absorption qualities that your individual reverb unit allows you to setup, and things like this, that, and the other, but these are the three main ones.

So, early reflections. Early reflections are the first-order echoes that happen in a reverberant space, so when I speak, the sound waves go out, they hit a boundary, and they bounce back. That's the early reflections.

The late reflections are my voice goes out, hits a boundary, reflects, hits another boundary, reflects, hits another, and it bounces around this room forming all of these complex reflections. Those are our late reflections.

When we are closer to a source, we generally hear a greater proportion of the early reflections, and a smaller proportion of the late reflections, and conversely, the opposite is true. When we're further away, we hear more of the late reflections and less of the early reflections, and they seem to blend together more, and it makes sense if you think about that.

You get more of a “boom, slap” type of thing if we're close to something, and you get more of a convolution of echoes coming together when you're farther away.

The other thing that happens is the predelay. If I'm very close to a source, you don't hear any reverberation until that sound travels out, and bounces back, and at about a foot per millisecond, if I'm say, five feet away from my nearest boundary, then I'll have about a ten second predelay before my first reflections get back to this microphone.

However, if I'm on the other side of the room, the first reflection that say, hits the floor and then bounces back up into the mic is going to get there almost at the exact same time as the actual direct sound of my voice.

So, as we get farther away, pre-delay goes down. When we're very close, predelay goes up. All of these things come together, and we formulate a system of creating an idea of depth by using all of those processes.

When we think about depth in the mix, we often reach for things like reverb, delay and other fancy FX.

But there's a much simpler way to create front-to-back depth in a mix, and it's more powerful than artificial effects. Here it is!

    ➡️Waves Berzerk Distortion Demo: 9:35

Now onto this amazing new plugin from Waves! The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin is a truly over-the-top distortion and saturation plugin. It is one of the best randomizing, wrongifying plugins out there at the moment! Randomizing has been a bit of a theme over the past few weeks, and this is another one of those plugins that will make average sounds into something far more interesting.

Plus, for today only, you can get the Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin for FREE! Click here to download it!

This offer is only for Black Friday though, so hurry!!

According to the description on the Waves website, their engineers “began by collecting a large array of well-loved distortion units of all types: amps, tube devcies, stomp boxes, and old analog units. They then developed original custom wave shapes based on their all-time favorite distortion curves.”

The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin has 10 different presets: Buzzed, Frenzy, Crushed, Trippy, Squashed, Loony, Dizzy, Freaky, Clipped, and Fuzzed. Each of these presets has its own personality, which will transform the sound by adding different grit, character, dirt, and other elements “that will blow your head off.” I already know that these presets are going to make my life so much easier!

As more people move towards doing more and more in-the-box – and not just mixing, but using virtual instruments as well – plugins like these are great tools to have! When virtual instruments first came into existence, everyone loved that all of a sudden they could get the absolute best sounding guitar or piano right on their computer. But as virtual instruments became more and more common, all of a sudden everyone had the best sounding instruments, so people began looking for ways to make these virtual instruments sound more exciting and unique! The Waves Berzerk Distortion plugin is the perfect plugin for that!

Along with all of the presets, the Berzerk plugin has a “Go Berzerk!” button that I know everyone will have fun using! This button creates random variations in each waveshape, which lets you personalize the signal. and then you can turn the Density knob to shift the waveshape in amplitude.

  • Tips & Tricks for WIDENING Electric Guitars

➡️What tips and tricks could you share with us for widening electric guitars? 1:15
➡️As a new producer working with new unsigned Artists, what are the percentages of master rights and publishing rights I should be looking to negotiate for? 9:58

Happy FAQ Friday everyone! We have had quite an exciting week over here, with Graham Coxon joining us for Wednesday’s video and talking all about Blur’s “Song 2” and the making of that great track! I hope you enjoyed that as much as we did!

Graham will actually be back with us for another video on Monday, where he will be going through an full breakdown of Blur’s album “Modern Life is Rubbish”! That is going to be a great time, so make sure you tune in for that!

The featured question from today’s FAQ Friday is this: What tips and tricks could you share with us for widening electric guitars?

This is a great question! We’ve done quite a few videos on widening guitars and guitar sounds in general in the past, but it is always great to learn even more tricks to get the best sound possible.

A great way to make your guitars sound wider is to pan one guitar all the way to the right, and the other all the way to the left. After this, the number one trick I use to make guitars feel wider is to put reverb on them. Now, I am sure we all put reverb on our electric guitars, but I take this part one step further by panning the reverb opposite of the guitar it is on. So, if I have a guitar that is panned all the way to the left, I will then pan its reverb all the way to the right, and for the guitar panned all the way to the right, I will pan its reverb all the way to the left.

Something else I will do to make guitars sound wider is to filter out the highs and the lows on the top and bottom. This keeps the reverb from getting too messy! If there is a lot of low end on your electric guitars, it will fight with your kick drum and your bass, and if there is a lot of high end, there will be a lot of chaos that you just really don’t want to hear.

  • Creating a Mobile Recording Studio | FAQ Friday - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    22:33

➡️➡️Thank you to Storyblocks Audio for sponsoring this video. Check out my link to learn more:

➡️➡️Click here to learn more about how to get a mobile recording studio started:

The equipment you will need to set up a mobile recording studio will be pretty similar to the equipment you would have in a home studio, rehearsal room, or some other kind of small environment where you need to record live bands.

There will be a few differences between that small studio set up and recording a live gig! In that small studio, you could maybe get away with 8 inputs - micing the kick, snare, having two overheads, bass guitar, electric, keys, and vocals - though you may want a few more for overdubs.

In a live situation, you would definitely want to have more options available to you. You will likely want to close mic the toms because of the high potential for bleed. In a nicely isolated situation, you may be able to just use your overheads, and then compress everything a little bit in order to bring out the toms, but if you try to use only overheads in a live situation, you will likely bring out a ton of bleed from every instrument on the stage. So with all of these extra mics becoming necessary, an 8-input system really does not work.

In order to determine exactly how many inputs you will need, you should be asking yourself what your client base will be. If you are recording folk artists who only have a few band members, with acoustic guitars, and some background singers, you may not need as many inputs, but if you are going to be recording bands, I think a minimum of 16 inputs makes sense.

If you got a 16 channel input mobile rig - meaning you are using interfaces with mic pres built in - then you could cover most situations. If you needed more inputs, you would then be able to expand to 24 when the situation arises.

While this option will be great to get you started, a small console would be a great option as well, if your budget will allow for it! Having a small console will allow you a little bit more creativity. You will have a fader driving straight to your DAW with an input gain with some EQ on the front, which will work wonders.

In today’s episode, we’re going to be mixing a song by Mary Spender, with Mary Spender herself! I’m sure many of you know her name, she’s incredibly talented and has made quite a name for herself in the guitarist community. We met in Germany while at Thomann Gearhead University 2019 and decided we would do a song together!

Mary is a British independent singer/songwriter and guitarist who makes music, podcasts, and weekly videos on YouTube. She has been described as the “most dynamic, expressive young British singer-songwriters working today.” Her songwriting skills have been compared to the likes of Debbie Harry and Tracy Chapman, and her guitar skills have been compared to John Mayer and Joni Mitchell.

Mary first became interested in guitar when some of her schoolmates started getting guitars and learning how to play, and she decided she wanted to play too. She was studying classical music at the time, with lessons in piano, violin, and viola, but never any guitar lessons. So she dug up her great-grandmother’s old Spanish guitar and began to teach herself. After just one year, she had saved up enough money to buy her first electric guitar: a Yamaha Pacifica 112 and a Laney practice amp, which she still has to this day!

Over the years, Mary has worked to develop a very unique style that blends her sultry vocals with a percussive fingerpicked electric technique that combines pop, blues, and soul. As she developed her skills and her voice matured, Mary floated between a number of genres, including rock and electronic, but has now settled on writing her own music in a bluesy style.

In September 2016, Mary began her “Tuesday Talks” series on her YouTube channel, and these have been a huge success. These videos provide practical advice about gear, songwriting, and technique, and can also feature interviews with guitarists, online guitar personalities, and gear makers. Some of the people she’s interviewed include David Townsend, KT Tunstall, and James Valentine. This past year, Mary reached a total of 9 million hits on her YouTube channel!

  • Mentally Preparing Yourself Before Starting a Mix | FAQ Friday - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    23:39

I don’t just open it up and start mixing! I spend a few minutes listening to it before I even do anything to the song.

Quite often if Eric is sitting behind me while I’m answering emails (or responding to your YouTube comments), I’ll ask Eric to play the rough. I might listen to it three or four times before I even think about mixing. I want to know the song. I want to hear the things that I can improve upon; things I might want to take in different directions, make more or less exciting, whatever it might be.

We also cover the following questions during this episode of FAQ Friday!
    • Do you ever listen to the music that you mixed, in a car or anywhere?
•What are your thoughts on “over-producing” a song beyond the artist’s ability to perform it live? As a producer, do you limit yourself to within the artist’s or band’s abilities to perform the song live?
•How can you come up with so many different guitar riffs that work with each other? I know a bit of theory but even so, getting multiple guitar riffs to work together is quite difficult. Could you give us newbies some hints on the matter?
•Why do bands record in standard tuning but then play a half step down live? I realize it’s for the vocalist but why not just record it down a half step?

This FAQ Friday we have another double-header in our video! I will be answering an FAQ Friday question, as well as doing a demo of yet another Waves saturation distortion plugin, the Waves MDMX.

Before we get into all that though, we just wanted to remind you that the Black Friday Insanity Sale is still going on! This means that yearly Produce Like a Pro Academy Memberships are still only $99! Make sure you get in on this amazing deal before it’s gone!

We’ve done a couple of reviews and demos for Waves plugins in the past couple of weeks, and they have come out with yet another one! The Waves MDMX Distortion Modules are actually three plugins in one, and will give you quick access to the greatest distorted sounds you know and love.

Based on musicians’ all-time favorite effects, this plugin contains three unique-sounding color boxes and modes: Screamer, Overdrive, and Fuzz. Screamer gives you fat, round saturated tones inspired by the classic overdrive effect. Overdrive offers versatile overdrive with a serious amount of control, from subtle soft clipping to enhance an instrument, to aggressive oversaturation. Fuzz offers two distinct fuzz flavors with outrageous amounts of saturation and sustain, plus a 1-octave up/down effect for added thickness.

Something that I love about this plugin is that is gives you the randomness you would get out of a console, while being totally in-the-box. A lot of professionals have tons and tons of expensive outboard gear and pass everything through it – sometimes without even touching the gear – which adds tiny bits of saturation and wonderful warmth to the sound as well.

This song has a bass DI. – A bass guitar plugged straight into the front of the interface.
In areas it gets super loud and then it disappears, so its dynamic range is massive! This is very typical for most bass guitar performances.

I’m going to show you a couple of different approaches that I take while mixing bass guitars!

  • How Space Works in a Mix: Placing Your Tracks in Three Dimensions | LANDR AskAnEngineer

    3:47

Creating enough space in a mix to cleanly place your tracks isn’t always easy. When Al Isler thinks about space in his mixes, he imagines his soundstage in three dimensions: width, height and depth.

EQ takes care of height, panning creates width, and that leaves depth which is where you’ll place your tracks.

Time based effects, like reverb and delay are the most common tools mix engineers use to control depth, but also simple automation to fader levels can have a big effect on depth.

Al also explains how playing with sustain and attack in your transient designers can add depth to a mix.

  • 8 Tips For Better Low End - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    22:30

➡️➡️Click here to learn more about getting a better sounding low end:

This is a bit of a contentious subject, and one that is talked about a lot, but it is an important one! Low end is a crucial part of every mix, and if it is not done properly, it can throw off the entire mix and leave you with less than satisfactory results. This is why I have put together 8 tips that will help you get a better low end!

    1. Be Aware of the Limitations of Your Room

My room is a pretty good size, we've got some stuff built into the walls, in the corners, and I've formed a very nice equilateral where I sit. However, it is still far from perfect! It is definitely not an anechoic chamber or the perfect listening environment. Since it is not perfect, it is important that I know the limitations of my room and how things sound in it.

No matter the size of your room or what kind of setup you have, no have to be aware of what your speakers are going to reproduce and how things are going to sound in your room. This is where reference tracks come in handy! You need to make sure you are listening to a lot of reference tracks and referencing your own mixes in lots of different environments because this will teach you how your room sounds and how to get the best results.

In addition to reference tracks, don't be afraid to check on headphones! Some headphones have a lot of low end, so checking there may help you hear something you were not able to hear before!

    2. Add a Sub

Adding a sub in a small room can be painful, but you can and should add a sub because some small drivers don't reproduce much below 100Hz or sometimes even higher up than that. Although I do recommend a sub to check the low end, I don't mix with it on all the time!

With a sub it is also important to make sure that the balance is right. Play lots of reference tracks to make sure it sounds really nice and balanced, because if they are pumping, you'll end up not putting enough low end in the mix, but if they are too quiet you'll end up pushing the low end even more, and you'll end up completely throwing off the mix.

There are many ways you can get a better sounding low end! Watch the full video to learn more!

  • Royer R-10 Ribbon Mic: Demo & Giveaway - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    12:33

➡️➡️Click here to enter to win a Royer R-10 Ribbon Mic:
➡️➡️Click here to learn more about the Royer R-10 Ribbon Mic:

Today we have a very exciting video happening, as we are going to be giving away a fabulous Royer R-10 Ribbon Mic! The Royer R-10 is a passive mono ribbon microphone designed for use in the studio and on live stages. These mics are also legendary on electric guitars!

This mic is able to capture all the low end, midrange warmth and punch that guitarists and engineers have come to expect from any Royer mic. If you want more bite in the highs, but don't want to multi-mic, the R-10 takes EQ beautifully and we suggest experimenting with your favorite EQ unit or plugin.

The R-10's patented offset-ribbon design positions the ribbon element toward the front of the transducer, which allows for high SPL handling on the front and the option of a brighter response when recording lower SPL sound sources like acoustic guitar, ukulele, and vocals on the back side. This is almost like having two mics in one as it allows you to switch between the two sides of the mic depending on the sound source!

Like all Royer mics, the R-10 is built by hand on Royer's beautiful Burbank facility, but is still relatively affordable. But even though it is affordable, that doesn't mean that the R-10 is just an entry level mic. This mic is compact and powerful! It is very flexible and will capture amazing quality sound no matter what you are recording.

Royer mics are fantastic, so it is great to have the opportunity to give one away to one of you! Make sure you scroll up to the top to enter for your chance to win!

The featured FAQ question from today’s video is: How do you prepare to work with an artist in a genre that you haven’t worked in or you really don’t know that much about?

I think this really depends on which genre you are in, and which one you will be moving to.

For example, if you are used to working in the dance world, and you use mainly virtual instruments, and then all of a sudden you have to record a set of live instruments, that will present a whole set of challenges. In this situation, I would say to watch a bunch of recording videos, and cut yourself some slack! Making a transition like that is very difficult. Once you to the point where you are recording, don’t try to do too much. Focus on setting up a mic in a position that sounds good, and getting a clean recording with no clipping and no distortion. Don’t try to EQ, compress, or anything else while record, just record the instrument! Once you have that recording, you can figure everything else out in the mix.

If you are coming from the opposite side, and are someone who has done a ton of organic stuff and now has to move to virtual instruments, the best thing you can do is ask for reference tracks. Ask for tracks the artist thinks sound great, and also do your own research and listen to what other people are doing in order to figure out how to move forward.

Being able to move between genres is a great skill to have, but it does take a lot of experience and practice! The first time you are doing this, cut yourself some slack and don’t jump on too deep too quickly. Ask for reference tracks and take your time so you can make sure you get it right!

  • 11 Mistakes To Avoid In Music Production - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    32:47

➡️➡️Learn more about avoiding music production mistakes here:

Over the years the producer's role has changed dramatically. There was a time when a music producer was essentially the person that oversaw everything and put the whole production together.

That's not the production we have now, these days the job of a music producer is so vast that it covers pretty much everything. As a producer, you can be expected to also be the engineer, mixer, songwriter, therapist, the record label, co-promoter, social media manager and all kinds of fun and less than fun things.

However, that does create a lot of grey areas and it’s in this grey area that things can fall apart horribly. So let’s talk about the top mistakes made by music producers and how to avoid them.

  • How Matt Brownlie WON a GRAMMY from his HOME STUDIO! - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

    22:23

➡️➡️Click here to learn more about Matt Brownlie:
➡️➡️Check out Recording Strings and Horns with Matt Brownlie at NRG Studios:

Matt Brownlie’s career is an illustrious one that speaks for itself through both the range of genres and also the sheer talent he has worked with. His accolades include working with Bette Midler, LL Cool J, Destiny’s Child, Frank Ocean, Kesha, and many more. In 2013, Matt won a GRAMMY in the Best Latin Jazz Album category for his recording/mixing on ¡Ritmo!

Matt started his career with a small-scale studio apprenticeship.

Matt’s engineering career got its legs when the Recording Connection placed him in an apprenticeship with his mentor Brian Levi at Clear Lake in North Hollywood in 2008. He notes that “this was a humble, but great little studio,” which is still operating today. He left Clear Lake after 2 years to pursue an internship at Westlake in Hollywood in 2010.

Westlake Recording Studios is a large-format commercial studio known for not only its recording legacy, but its innovative studio design as well. Matt became a staff engineer there, where he recorded, edited, and mixed music for the studio’s huge clientele. He ultimately left the staff position after 4 years, but continued a working relationship with Westlake as a contracted engineer.

Concurrently with his staff gig at Westlake, he went to work with Brent Fischer and his father, the late, great Clare Fischer. He started off in Brent’s home studio doing edits, then MIDI programming, then overdubs, which led to him working on ¡Ritmo! Matt has worked now with Brent Fischer for over 10 years, recording and mixing big bands, orchestras, and many more!

As a freelance recording and mixing engineer for over 10 years, Matt Brownlie has recorded everything from jazz ensembles and chamber orchestras to voiceover actors, audiobooks, and podcasts. Audio editing, mixing, ADR, and repair are just a few of the skills which make him an incredibly talented and successful engineer in this industry!

ғᴏʟʟᴏᴡ ᴍᴇ ᴏɴ ɪɴsᴛᴀɢʀᴀᴍ - @ʀᴜsʜ.xᴏxᴏ

    Common FAQ

    ???????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????! -

-i used binary coding instead of real affirmations Because your mind will understand it better and there will be no chances of mispronounced words.

    ????????????????'???? ???????????????? ???????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????

binary is just digits 0 and 1, binary affirmations are text converted into 0 and 1s

    How It works?

The most common misinterpretation regarding binary is its just a computer lan but in reality whole universe is just numbers .
our mind understands number more than texts making you get results quicker than regular ones.
Also makes you understand sub even if don't understand English.

Many times sub makers misspell their subs or use their own voice for their, this can avoid misspells and all.

For a month now I’ve had an ongoing production process together with Walkers. This is the final result! It’s called «Unity» and is produced, written and recorded by us. Really proud of what we’ve achieved together from so many different places in the world. This is the anthem to our community!

Thank you to all the amazing Walkers for contributing on the different parts of the song.

Happy Friday everyone! This week we have a special edition of FAQ Friday, and are coming to you from NAMM!

We are so excited to be back at The NAMM Show! It is always a wonderful experience where we get to talk to all kinds of vendors and manufacturers and see new gear. We love seeing all the new gear these companies are coming out with, and even better to get to talk with them and ask questions about it in person!

At the first day of The NAMM Show yesterday, we went around and had to opportunity to talk to a bunch of our favorite companies. The companies we visited include: Austrian Audio, SE Electronics, JZ Microphones, Leapwing Audio, Sonarworks, BAE Audio, EVE Audio, MXL Microphones, Hugen Audio, and Izotope.

We asked each one of them the same question: “What is your most frequently asked question?” These companies get asked questions about their products all the time, so we wanted to find out some of the most common questions and learn a little more about some of the great products! We got the opportunity to learn about the DynOne 3 from Leapwing, the difference between BAE Audio’s BAE 1073 and the UK Sound 1073, we learned about Hugen Audio’s ISL and the difference between sample peak limiting and true peak limited, got some advice from MXL Microphones about starting points for someone looking into their first professional microphone, and so much more!

There is always so much to see and learn about at the NAMM Show and we are so excited to share it all with you! Watch the full video below to see each of these companies answer their most frequently asked question.

  • How to Add Separation and Clarity to your Mixes

    5:49

►► Download your FREE EQ Guide

It can often be a struggle trying to hear all the different instruments in a mix, and it’s tempting to just keep throwing plugins on tracks to try and force them into submission.

The good news is there are 3 simple strategies you can use to create separation and clarity in your mixes, with minimal processing and far better results!

  • Check Your Waveforms to get Objectivity with Audacity Wave Editor

    12:17

Here we explore the power of actually looking at the waveform of your finished mix to get some visual reference for possible problems using FREE cross platorm software called Audacity.

    Get it free here:

Objectivity is difficult to achieve when you have listened to your mix a thousand times. Where our ears have become married to certain sounds and loudness levels, looking at the waveform can reveal some glaring issues such as inconsistencies between loudness of parts and loud peaks that would challenge a mastering engineer.

Inconsistencies in loudness between different parts of the song can result in audio that is not optimized for mastering. Not that you should not have dynamic music. But you can still achieve dynamics in a controlled fashion by looking and listening instead of just listening.

    BRAND NEW APACHE COVER 2019:
Guitar Rig Hank Marvin Presets now available on my website:

    Large Shadows Tab Library:

So You Want to Sound Like Hank Marvin
Hank Marvin is a legend and because of his playing style and unique sound, his music is instantly recognisable. Getting your guitar to sound like Saint Marvin's takes more than a video lesson on how to play Apache or Wonderful Land. Of course, a lot of the distinctiveness comes from Hank's characteristic technique but a lot of it will come down to gear and settings. Even if your guitar lessons have brought you to the point that you can master his technique and play the music perfectly, it is just not going to sound as good without the unmistakable Hank Marvin sonic qualities. There are a number of ways to capture Hank's classic tone and you can use this video lesson to identify what you have and what you need to tune in on the amazing vibe that he had. In this video, I will cover the amp, echo, and delay settings and the gear that I use so that you can sound like you are one of the members of The Shadows.

Let me help you get set-up in all aspects of music, whether it is analogue or digital, live or studio, get in touch. I can even remote connect to you and assist you to install your music software!

We are also fortunate enough to be giving away three copies of this amazing plugin! Enter below for your chance to win one of them!

The idea behind this synth was to give the users the ability to not only use the Wavetable oscillator for adding harmonic richness to your sound, but to expand on the sound design potential of the synth.

This plugin features a unique wavetable generator that lets you create harmonically rich wavetable sets from the output of Union’s main oscillators, which is a technique frequently used by the world’s best sound designers to create rich and deep sounds. The Union plugins has independent filters for each oscillators, which gives you a deeper control over the shaping of your sound.

All three oscillators include their own dedicated ADSR, MOD ADSR, and LFO envelopes, and Oscillator 3 includes an additional wavetable window that allows you to scrub through stereo wavetable sets to create organic movements in your sounds.

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Alex Oana, the co-creator and co-founder of Audio Test Kitchen.

Audio Test Kitchen is a free online resource that aims to change the way we audition microphones. They have partnered with the top pro audio manufacturers in order to provide the most comprehensive gear comparison platform ever!

Audio Test Kitchen does this by providing you with real recordings of microphones in 11 acoustic spaces under precisely standardized conditions. They did this so that there was no variation in the source at all, right down to the position of the mic, the signal chain, or anything else, so when you are switching between mics on the site, the only difference you are hearing is between the mics themselves. This way, you can hear the differences between various mics in the most scientific way possible.

Audio Test Kitchen is a great tool, and it is free to sign up! Click here to create your account!

Make sure you also sign up for the mailing list so you can stay up-to-date with when new features, gear, and sounds are available!

There are over 300 different mics that you can choose from to compare, and you can compare up to 6 mics at once. When selecting the mics, you can sort the mics by brand or by price point. You can then drag the mics you want to compare into the slot above, select the track you want to use to test them - there is currently a choice between a hip-hop track and an acoustic singer-songwriter track.

When Alex and I tested out our mic choices, we did it in blind mode! This setting covers up which mic you are listening to and shuffles the order of the mics so you have no idea which one you are listening to. This helps to eliminate any bias you may have towards certain brands or certain mics as you are comparing!
