  • Horslips - The High Reel

    2:30

Horslips are an Irish Celtic rock band that compose, arrange and perform songs frequently inspired by traditional Irish airs, jigs and reels. The group are regarded as 'founding fathers of Celtic rock' for their fusion of traditional Irish music with rock music and went on to inspire many local and international acts. They formed in 1970 and 'retired' in 1980 for an extended period. The name originated from a spoonerism on The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse which became The Four Poxmen of The Horslypse.

Although Horslips had limited commercial success when the band was playing in the 70's, there was a revival of interest in their music in the late 1990s and they came to be regarded as one of the defining bands of the Celtic rock genre. There have since been small scale reunions including appearances on The Late Late Show and RTÉ's Other Voices. The band reformed for two Irish shows in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast and the 3Arena in Dublin at the end of 2009, and have continued to play shows since then.

25 years in the waiting and the Church of Saint James rocked to the rafters as the Four Poxmen of the Horslips took to the stage and reminded us all that we might have been young but we surely weren't stupid. So auspicious an occasion was it that Eamon showed up and played. It very seldom, ever, gets better. Unless there maybe is such a thing as a sanity clause.......

  • Horslips The Tain 02 Maeves Court

    1:41

The Táin is the name of a music album by Irish rock band Horslips. Their second studio album, it was Horslip's first attempt at making a concept album, an idea they would return to in 1976 with The Book of Invasions: A Celtic Symphony. The Táin was based on the Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley), one of the most infamous legends of Early Irish literature, dealing with the war between Ulster and Connacht over a prize bull.

Complete first album by Horslips originally released in 1972. Ads will probably be placed in the video from copyright holders, whom I am glad allow sharing content instead of blocking uploads. This debut is overall my top choice among Horslips records. The songs Bím Istigh Ag Ól and Furniture are especially recommended, plus the excellent instrumentals The Clergy's Lamentation, Ace And Deuce, and The Musical Priest.
