    As your mama and papa may say
    hey girl, won't you stay at home today;
    we don't know what you are doin',
    we don't know where you are goin',
    but they should know that you are growin';

    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    Ev'rything's alright.

    I'm gonna play on my romantic guitar,
    as we lie under the twinkling stars;
    let's have a rendezvous,
    just me and you;

    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    Ev'rything's alright.

    The only one watchin' us is the moon in the sky;
    come on girl, you just got to try,
    forget about the winter, forget about the cold;
    when summer is here and there is someone to hold;

    (Instrumental)

    Like the Beatles in Strawberry Fields
    we're gonna harvest our thoughts of love
    forever and ever
    the stars and we'll be together;

    In the zum-zum-zummernight
    In the zum-zum-zummernight

    Moviestar is a popular 1975 song, written and performed by Swedish pop singer Harpo. The single was produced and arranged by Bengt Palmers. It reached number 1 in Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland and Germany,[1] number 3 in Australia, number 9 in New Zealand, number 13 in Ireland and number 24 in the UK.[2] A Swedish language version was also released in Sweden which went to number 1 on the Svensktoppen radio chart on 10 July 1976.
    Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA was one of the backing vocalists singing the words Moviestar, oh Moviestar, ooh.

    The song was covered by the French-German duo Stereo Total on their 1995 release Oh Ah! and used on the soundtrack to the romantic comedy movie The Tao of Steve (2000).
    The German synthpop band And One covered it on their 1997 album Nordhausen.
    In 1984 the Spanish singer Miguel Gallardo made a new adaptation. He called the song Tu Amante o Tu Enemigo. The lyrics have nothing to do with the original in English but retain the melody.
    The song was used in Nissan commercials on the Swedish TV Channel TV4 in 1996 and 1997.
    The song was covered by Swedish singer Evelyn on her 1999 release Partystarter.

  • Tonys - TV Star 1976 Original Moviestar by Harpo

    3:12

    3:34

    In this privately produced recording from 1930, announcer Alexander Woollcott introduces The Neysa McMein Memorial Record with Harpo Marx and Reinald Werrenrath performing Mighty Lak' a Rose. The segment closes with Christmas Greetings.

    Neysa McMein (January 24, 1888 - May 12, 1949), an American artist, born Marjorie Moran in Quincy, Illinois. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago and in 1913 went to New York City. After a brief stint as an actress, she turned to commercial art. On the advice of a numerologist, she adopted the name Neysa, and she thereafter credited the name change with her rapid success. From 1923 through 1937, McMein created all of McCall's covers. General Mills commissioned her to create the image of Betty Crocker, a fictional housewife whose brand name was intended to be a seal of solid middle-class domestic values. She became a regular member of the Algonquin Round Table set, along with Alexander Woollcott, Alice Duer Miller, Harpo Marx, and Jascha Heifetz. Franklin Pierce Adams, Robert Benchley, Edna Ferber, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Bernard Baruch were friends.The full wikipedia article can be found here:

    Alexander Humphreys Woollcott (January 19, 1887 -- January 23, 1943) was an American critic and commentator for The New Yorker magazine and a member of the Algonquin Round Table. He was the inspiration for Sheridan Whiteside, the main character in the play The Man Who Came to Dinner (1939) by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, and for the far less likable character Waldo Lydecker in the 1944 film Laura (1944). He claimed to be the inspiration for Rex Stout's brilliant detective Nero Wolfe, but Stout, although he was friendly to Woollcott, said there was nothing to that idea. In his early twenties he contracted the mumps, which apparently left him mostly, if not completely, impotent. He never married or had children, although he had a large number of female friends, most notable of whom were Dorothy Parker and Neysa McMein, to whom he actually proposed the day after she had just wed her new husband, Jack Baragwanath. Wollcott once told McMein that I'm thinking of writing the story of our life together. The title is already settled. McMein: What is it? Woollcott: Under Separate Cover. The full wikipedia article can be found here:

    Adolph Harpo Marx (later Arthur Harpo Marx) (November 23, 1888 -- September 28, 1964) was an American comedian and film star. He was the second oldest of the Marx Brothers. His comic style was influenced by clown and pantomime traditions. He wore a curly reddish wig, and never spoke during performances (he blew a horn or whistled to communicate). Marx frequently used props such as a walking stick with a built-in bulb horn, and he played the harp in most of his films. The full wikipedia article can be found here:

    WERRENRATH, REINALD (1883-1853). His father, George Werrenrath, was a Danish tenor who taught singing in the United States. The son first studied with Percy Rector Stephens in New York City. In 1907 he made his concert debut at the Worchester Festival, and he then had a highly successful career as a concert and oratorio singer. After 1912 he was for many years the director of the University Heights Choral Society. In 1919 he made his stage debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Silvio in I Pagliacci. He remained a member of the Metropolitan until 1921. He appeared on Broadway in The School for Scandal (1923), The Beaux Stratagem (1928) and Music in the Air (1932). He visited England (1921-24; 28) where he sang chiefly on the radio. In 1932 was was awarded an honorary doctorate by New York University. He composed several works for male chorus. (A Concise Biographical Dictionary of Singers, by K.J. Kutsch / Leo Reimens [translated by Earl Jones] / The Chilton Book Company, 1969; Internet Broadway Database) --

    Mighty Lak' a Rose is a 1901 song with lyrics by Frank Lebby Stanton (1857-1927) and music by Ethelbert Nevin (1862-1901). The lyrics are written in an approximation of an African American accent; such dialect songs were common in the era. The title thus means Mighty (very much) like a rose; this assessment is addressed by a mother (or perhaps an observer) to her newborn son. The dialect has been modified by some singers, such as Frank Sinatra. The song was Nevin's final composition. Nevin died on February 17, 1901, shortly after composing it, never living to realize the song's success. Stanton died in 1927. The full wikipedia article can be found here:

    why did you leave and where did you go
    Motorcycle Mama
    I've been looking everywhere for you

    Do you remember in '65
    when Jimi Hendrix was still alive
    Before we went into the Woodstock scene
    And turn on to the rock-machine

    We rode a red Harley Davidson
    as we tried to follow the sun.

    Motorcycle Mama
    why did you leave and where did you go
    Motorcycle Mama
    I've been looking everywhere for you

    Do you remember in '67
    we were into the flower-power heaven
    Riding up the silvery coast highway
    Riding up in the Frisco bay

    Like Ravi Shanker I played his sitar
    And Maharishi Yogi was my Guru Star.

    I'm looking
    I'm searching
    I read my horoscope
    I'm looking
    I'm searching
    I read my horoscope

    Maybe that I am blind
    maybe that I won't find
    The signs within my mind
    maybe that I am blind

    I don't know why
    or if I'm going for
    But I look to the sky
    and I follow my star
    I'm looking at the space
    through my kaleidoscope
    And ev'ry day I read my horoscope

    I'm looking
    I'm searching
    I read my horoscope
    I'm looking
    I'm searching
    I read my horoscope

    I'm looking
    I'm searching
    I read my horoscope

    James Isaac Moore (January 11, 1924 – January 31, 1970), better known by his stage name Slim Harpo, was an American blues musician, a leading exponent of the swamp blues style, and one of the most commercially successful blues artists of his day. His most successful and influential recordings included I'm a King Bee (1957), Rainin' In My Heart (1961), and Baby Scratch My Back (1966) which reached no. 1 on the R&B chart and no.16 on the US pop chart. A master of the blues harmonica, his stage name was derived from the popular nickname for that instrument, the harp.

    You feel like Steve McQueen
    When you're driving in your car
    And you think you look like James Bond
    When you're smoking your cigar
    It's so bizarre you think you are
    The new kind of James Dean
    But the only thing I've ever seen of you
    Was a commercial spot on the screen
    Movie star, oh movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie, movie star, oh movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie star, ah
    You should belong to the jet set
    Fly your own private lear jet
    But you worked in a grocery store
    Every day until you could afford to get away
    So you went to Sweden to meet Ingmar Bergman
    He wasn't there or he just didn't care
    I think it's time for you, my friend
    To stop pretending that you are a
    Movie star, movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie, movie star, movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie star, ah
    Frozen hero!
    Your words are zero
    When your dreams had vanished into dark
    Along the go that you don't want to know
    Movie star, movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie
    Movie star, oh movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie
    Movie star, oh movie star, ah
    You think you are a movie star (movie star, oh movie star, ah)
    Movie star, movie star, ah
    Movie star, movie star

    Harpo (born 5 April 1950) is a Swedish pop singer. He was popular in Sweden and around Europe in the 1970s and is best known for his worldwide hit Moviestar, which reached number 24 in the UK Singles Chart, and number 3 in the Australian Singles Chart in 1976. Harpo has continued to work in the music business, releasing an album of new material as recently as 2005 and continues to tour to this day. He remains popular in Germany and toured there since 2007.
    A Swedish language version was also released in Sweden which went to number 1 on the Svensktoppen radio chart on 10 July 1976.
    Anni-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA was one of the backing vocalists singing the words Moviestar, oh Moviestar, ooh.
    Harpo continued to record throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. During 1985, he produced several Swedish groups including Shanghai, Suzzies Orkester and +1. In 1987, he set up his own record company, Igloo Records.
    After his 1992 album, things were quiet on the recording front. He released a single, Sounds Like Love, in Germany only in 1994. In 1997, Harpo contributed two new songs to a greatest hits compilation album, Harpo Hits!
    Harpo released his latest album of new material, Jan Harpo Svensson 05 in April 2005. He had an extensive tour of Germany in 2007.
