    Lyrics:
    Hey Laura it's me
Sorry but I had to rang your doorbell so late
    But there's something bothering me
I really am sorry but it just couldn't wait
Is there someone else instead of me
Go ahead and lie to me and make me believe
You're not in love with him and this fool will see
That the rivers of your love flow uphill to me
    Hey Laura it's me
Sorry but I had to ring your doorbell so late
Well there's something bothering me all night long
    It just couldn't wait
With a healthy dose of make-believe
Go ahead and lie to me and make me believe
That you're in love with me, this fool will see
That the rivers of your love flow uphill to me
    Hey Laura
    Hey Laura it's me
Sorry but I had to ring your doorbell so late
    Well there's something bothering me
All night long it just couldn't wait
With a healthy dose of make-believe
Go ahead and lie to me and make me believe
That you're in love with me this foul can see
That the rivers of your love flow uphill to me

  • Béla Fleck & Edmar Castañeda: Live at Big Ears Festival 2019 | JAZZ NIGHT IN AMERICA

    44:05

Béla Fleck, the world's preeminent banjo player, and Edmar Castañeda, a peerless master of the Colombian harp, share more than a penchant to pluck magic out of strings. Both musicians are keen listeners with lightning reflexes and the ability to pounce on any digression. They're both alchemists of style, unbound by the rules of genre. And each has a way of making virtuosity feel generous, disarming any look-at-me heroics with a spirit of welcome.

They had never played together before this performance at the 2019 Big Ears Festival. The concert, at Saint John's Cathedral in Knoxville, Tenn., features an equal portion of compositions by Fleck and Castañeda, as well as a flamenco-charged classic by Brazilian composer Jacob do Bandolim. The notes rain in cascades, or flow like rivulets, but always in service of bright communion.

This performance was recorded at St. John's Cathedral in Knoxville, Tenn., on July 31, 2019.

    SET LIST
    0:12 - No Fear

  • Concertino in Bb Major for theremin, 2 violas, cello and piano | Aleks Schürmer

    9:06

Premiered in Montreal in August 2019, this concertino is part of the contemporary chamber music repertoire for #theremin composed by canadian composer Aleks Schürmer. Sometimes humourous, absurd, bitter or melancholic, the tone of this piece in two parts is ever-changing. It is also intended to be a technical challenge for the theremin player, with some impossible melodic passages...

    Lyrics:
Weight of love on my shoulders
I thought that it would be easier than this
I thought my heart had grown colder
But the warmth of your kiss, I can't dismiss

Though my past has left me bruised
I ain't hiding from the truth
When the truth won't let me lie right next to you

    But it's holding on
    And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it
    It keeps holding on
    And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to break it
Heaven knows that I can't shake it
    Holding on
    Holding on
    Holding on
    Holding on

I've seen times that were harder
I remember the taste of bitterness
Won't you help me, my father?
Help me fall in the love that I have missed

Though my past has left me bruised
I ain't hiding from the truth
When the truth won't let me lie right next to you

    But it's holding on
    And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it
    It keeps holding on
    And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to break it
Heaven knows that I can't shake it

    Holding on
    Holding on
    Holding on
    Holding on

    But it's holding on
    And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it

  • Courtney Marie Andrews: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

    13:42

April 3, 2019 | Bob Boilen -- It was a day when sunlight drenched the office and the songs of heart from Courtney Marie Andrews felt right at home. It's been a year since her comforting album, May Your Kindness Remain, came out. Amazingly it's her sixth record, and yet she's still a just few years shy of 30. The opening number here at the Tiny Desk, the album's title track, is a shining example of why the songs of Courtney Marie Andrews endure, beginning with her words, based on friendships, and the understanding of a kind soul.

And if your money runs out
    And your good looks fade
    May your kindness remain
    Oh, may your kindness remain

Then there's her voice, with a power that feels so unexpected coming from her small frame. Courtney Marie supports the stories she tells with her delicate yet powerful guitar and a band of musicians here at the Tiny Desk with a great understanding of the subtleties that make her music sustain and strengthen over many listens.

    From: Wikipedia
Grégoire moved to New York City to study at the New School University's Jazz Department in New York City upon graduating from the prestigious Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève. Today he is one of the most sought after harmonica players in the world: often compared to legends Toots Thielemans and Stevie Wonder, he has been asked to play with an incredible number of famous musicians including Youssn'Dour, Me' Shell Ndegeocello, Pete Seeger, David Sanborn, George Benson, Cassandra Wilson, to name a few. In 2003 he was the subject of Swiss filmmaker Frédéric Baillif's documentary Sideman, which won several awards. In 2005, Grégoire toured with the Pat Metheny Group, receiving a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for their album The Way Up. He also won the Jazz Journalists Association 'Player of the Year Award'. After his Grammy win, Maret embarked on a two-year tour with the worldclass bassist Marcus Miller and subsequently joined Herbie Hancock's band. Following his time with Herbie Hancock, he co-led the jazz trio Gaïa with pianist Federico Gonzales Peña and drummer Gene Lake. He also recorded an album, Scenarios, with Andy Milne in 2007. In 2010, Grégoire Maret played at The Concert for the Rainforest with Elton John and Sting.

  • Jazz Home Delivery welcomes Michelle Gregoire and Tyler Hornby

    49:43

Brought to you by TD JazzYYC International Jazz Days Virtual Festival

Michelle Gregoire (piano) has been making plans each week to meet up with people online. She needs people in her life. Prior to Covid 19 she would reach out to musicians who were visiting Calgary and invite them to her house for a home cooked meal. As you’d imagine the musicians loved her kind gesture. So now those same musicians are reaching out to Michelle to meet up online. She’s uplifted by the connections she’s been able to keep through Zoom or FaceTime. Her musical friendships are helping her feel uplifted and appreciated. In turn, she’s inspired creatively.
Tyler Hornby (drums) grew up in a very musical family. At one point in time he had a band, his brother had a band and his dad had a band… and they all used the basement for rehearsals. Tylers mom was obviously a saint! Tyler appreciated his musical upbringing so much that he now passes along the joy of music to his daughter. He sees his Covid isolation experiences with his daughter as a once in a life time experience. He cherishes this time together.
Host Tim Tamashiro welcomes two of Calgary’s most dedicated and accomplished musicians Michelle Gregoire and Tyler Hornby.
